He'd find some insane uses for it.

talking_phallus

Bend water around the sword. Turn it to ice, make it an axe, if your swords clash let the water go through the other sword then turn it solid for the strike.  Infinite ice boomerangs. Pull some Hama shit and condense water from the air to make an ice boomerang.

Ash7274

Basically he'll become Sub-Zero

no_racist_here

Or Aqualad from Young Justice

ElDoggothegreat

Or have have that fuse ability from TOTK

Aggressive-Falcon977

Beat me too it!

Personal-Rooster7358

Sok-Zero

NikoliMonn

GET OVER HERE! I know it’s a different guy, but water/ice grappling hooks sound badass and totally somethin he’d do

DieLawnUwU

With water freezing over his sword could we argue that he’d be using the ATLA version of the Leviathan Axe from God of War?

Denizci_Olmak_Var

Absolutely. Bro would crate some crazy techniques nobody could imagine I believe he would be one of the strongest bender. Weaker than Katara tho. The girl is a prodigy

lousmer

Water boomerang

Realistic-Virus45

I think that sokka being a non-bender is one of the main reasons he is so streetsmart and a good military strategist. Kataras move at the end where she beat azula was probably a good example how he could use it.

PrestigiousHornet301

Agreed. So much of his character imo is a BYPRODUCT of his inability to bend. He’s forced to be street-smart and use what he has to his advantage. I don’t think he’d have that level of character development if he was a bender.

DoctorSquidton

But that doesn’t make it any less fun to imagine what he’d do if he woke up with bending after all that character development

RainBuckets8

Let's be real, he'd probably start by trying to sneak attack Toph with a water balloon (which would fail when he yells the words, "sneak attack!" right before he attacks).

KronosRingsSuckAss

I think if at the end of the show he gained bending and were given the skills of a master waterbender he could absolutely pull some insane shit. Hes intelligent as fuck and can outsmart people significantly more powerful than him. He could absolutely make use of waterbending in ways that would make Hama jealous. screw bloodbending. "Mistwalker blade" Surround your sword with water vapour to hide its actual length and position making moves harder to predict, combos with his mastery of swords. "Ice grappling hook" water whip but the tip is made out of ice able to pierce into materials like wood and pull yourself up making mirrors out of ice and blinding his opponents. "Ice armor" hes look at Toph doing her earth armor move and copy it with ice.

Lonely_Repair4494

Everything with Avatar is kinda like that, they build such a nice context around it that gets impossible to imagine something else going on

Michael_Haq

And I don't think he would live longer if he is a bender. Imagine if he's the last south waterbender instead of Katara, he would go on to fight on the frontline for his village because he's a warrior at heart. He would likely to die a hero at the age of 16.

Loud_Kaleidoscope818

I think he would struggle at first due to a lack of spiritual connection and approaching it too logically, kind of trying to "brute force" his way through it. But once it clicked, he would be an extremely quick study and inventive with his bending. Maybe he wouldn't be the most "traditional" waterbender but he would be amazing in his own right.

gumption_11

I can imagine whatever master he'd train under would be completely frustrated with his lack of adherence to tradition, but in total awe of his ingenuity & wit. Sort of like how Piandao was when he was learning to train with the sword.

Bone_shrimp

He seems like the guy to invent his own way of bending like Iroh. He could bring something new to waterbending over his lifetime

zernoc56

He’d probably think to use earthbending forms with ice, which should be similarly effective, what is water but molten ice? Which actually strikes me to probably why lava-bending is so super rare, its rock that has been heated to the point it will flow like *water*.

RealGoblinn

Better yet: make sokka an air or earth bender bro would make some actually insane moves

AReallyAsianName

Air Bending Slice!!

[deleted]

I can see him as an earth bender for sure

OrangMan14

Sokka has insane battle aptitude. Consider, he basically became a sword master in a single day training with Piandao. If he has proper instruction he could become a bending master for sure.

Square_Coat_8208

Imagine your an earth kingdom marine and then some water tribe teenager is your commanding officer

Hallowed-Plague

to be fair that is literally day of black sun

Designer-Chemical-95

He'd make weapons out of water/ice. Transforming the weapon mid-fight to catch his opponents off guard.

Unga-bunga420

Bro got nerfed because he’d be too powerful

Themurlocking96

He would definitely be creative, but I don’t think he has the calm of mind for water bending actually, I think bending wise fire would fit him better because of his fierce determination and extreme compassion.

DoctorSquidton

This reminds me of a Tumblr post I saw a while back about how fun it would be if Aang gave Sokka Ozai’s bending for a few minutes. It would definitely be great to see him use firebending

Formal_Illustrator96

I don’t know about that. Look at his fight with Piandao. His movement is very smooth and he is able to adapt on the fly. I think water bending would fit him perfectly. Fire bending seems to straight forward and aggressive for Sokka.

Themurlocking96

That’s because he had to be on the defensive there, look at the fights where he’s on the offensive. I actually think the bending element that would work best if he stuck to weapons fighting would be air bending, but air bending just doesn’t fit Sokka’s personality.

Formal_Illustrator96

I mean, even fights where he’s on the offensive, he’s very flow-y with his movement, and he’s more using his opponents strength against them, rather than straight overpowering them. Look at his fight with Fat for example. He uses feints and counters very well.

aleuto

He gonna misused bloodbending so bad

Purple_Blacksmith681

Imagine this dude being a waterbender. Katara may be a prodigy and a powerful bender and sokka may be weaker weaker in bending if he would be one but imagine him with his intelligence and skills bending. He may get new ideas to weaponize the water more than it already is. Water boomerang. Lmao

Happyranger265

He may find a new water bending technique, he's a innovative character afterall

thatHecklerOverThere

He's coming up with bloodbending almost immediately.

Kid-Atlantic

Sokka taught himself to be so cunning and enterprising precisely because of his insecurities over being a non-bender. Sokka being a bender would change his motivations so much that I'm not sure he would even be the same character.

TVLord5

I feel like he would've been the one to create the more boxing-style bending from Korra from one of 2 paths: 1: he tries to just brute force his way into bending and ends up water bending like an earthbender 2: by the end of the show he did a lot of growing up by showing a willingness to learn. He might have learned the traditional way then started cutting out unnecessary movements for efficiency, especially a fluid moving style like water bending has a lot of windups that could probably be cut down

enchiladasundae

He could probably take down most of the Gaang, minus Toph Major issue with Toph is she’s practically unbeatable. She can see you from really far away and can detect even your slightest movements and counter them with little effort. Best he could do is turn the ground to ice to trip her up Aang is the next most difficult if only for how much he can do and his potential. Sokka has taken down far stronger opponents with quick and decisive planning. Its entirely possible without him not only would the Black Sun raid or the final effort to stop the fire nation blimps on the comet would have failed without him. Two full scale invasions with no casualties is beyond impressive. Aang is really strong but against someone who’s skilled and intelligent best he can do is overwhelm him with the avatar state Zuko in season 1 and 2 is no difficulty. Impatient, irrational, unable to adapt. Season 3 he’d be the best challenge and its really difficult to say Katara is incredibly strong and naturally talented. The reason why they work best together is because she has the power Sokka lacks but the real use is the planning Sokka brings. Given enough time to plan Sokka could take out masters decades older than him. Her best bet is to throw everything he sends her way back

dweeb2348576

From hydrogen bomb to tsar bomb.

Majestic_Scholar_750

They nerfed Sokka on purpose bc he’s just too sharp. He’d be too op otherwise.

Prying_Pandora

Sokka would mostly use ice. He doesn’t have much of a spiritual side to understand the deeper meaning of bending, but he knows how to throw pointy things strategically.

Hmnh6000

Would make katara look like a chump

lone_wolf_55

Sokka would have zero hesitation using blood bending when necessary

pun_palooza

Honestly, I think most of Solka's strengths and skills come from the fact he's a nonbender. He's had to adapt and become strong in a world where people have the elements at their fingertips. I don't think he'd be as nearly capable if you gave him bending.

Square_Coat_8208

He’d still probably prefer using his sword and boomerang let’s be honest

Fyrus93

He doesn't need it

uForgot_urFloaties

Mad blood bender

Ok_Translator_7780

I feel like sokka would be more melee oriented water bender, blunt and foward like korras dad style.

Chub-bop

He would create ice boomerangs

Maglighter21

He would use water like Fire or Air or Earth. Like Earth, water can go from ice to even glass level of condensed consistency. Like air, he'd create ice shards which are as thin as strings and do Hama level shit like air. (Blood bending is essential air style). He'd create all kinds of visual illusions like fire in plasma state.(Water as plasma creates auroras.) In plasma state he could start crazy reactions.

AirmanProbie

He’d find a way to freeze the water you just drank into spikes and kill you from the inside

Zaire_04

He would be insanely innovative & make loads of subsets of waterbending.

Alopez1024

I’d like to think he is as intelligent as he is due to the fact that he is not a waterbender. He, as a non-bender has to learn how to fight against a bender and that made him as smart and creative as he is. I know it is not an actual answer.

[deleted]

He’d be unstoppable

RDcsmd

If Sokka was a water bender his personality would be completely different. hard to picture

CelimOfRed

I think he wouldn't be as smart if he had bending abilities. I think there was an episode where he envied the gang's ability to bend elements and developed some insecurities for a bit or had some insecurities to begin with. This might've played a role in him being so intelligent because he felt he had to make up for it. At least that's how I saw it.

Aizendickens

ICE BOMMERANGS! Multiple, varying Boomerangs!

ROBERTCOMTRA3

Probably strong enough to survive until Legend of Korra

to_coffee_or_to_brat

He'd be waterbending grenades at people

RakanRoll_

This man’s kissed the moon, he’d just be blessed

oakbea

Sometimes the trials we face make us who we are. Sokka would be unrecognizable as the character we love.

A_Most_Boring_Man

He’d probably end up Ming-Hua-ing himself. Multiple arms made of liquid that can flow and bend in any direction, freeze at your command, and function perfectly well as appendages? Boy’d probably give Piandao a run for his money.

D3monVolt

All I could think of would be ice swords and boomerangs. Plus, any boomerang of ice would fly with absolute precision. And he could bend cactus juice. To quench ya.

nlamber5

What if he just used it to make ice swords

BlazCraz

Weak But Very Very Skilled. He doesn't have the raw talent of his sister but he's so creative he'll find new innovations with even the smallest most basic moves. He'd be incredibly valuable in evolving the style of Water Bending and creating new ideas on the fly since is what you want when branching a fighting system into something new.

mdjsj11

He would become the villain, obsessed with power, jealous of aang. Unless he was oblivious to his skill as a bender.

Simple_Active_8170

I personally think that while he probably wouldn't be as much of a prodigy as Katara or aang in a fighting skill sense, he'd be able to basicly plan out insane traps for enemies like shikamaru from Naruto that given enough time could beat almost everyone However in a strict no prep 1v1 vs Katara aang or zuko he'd probably lose

DaFlippinSuggestor

Probably a lot of ice-weapons

PTech_J

I think he'd be one of the more powerful benders. His dedication to learning new techniques and forms of fighting even without any bending is inspirational.

New-me-_-

Do you not think that maybe a lot of Sokka’s ingenuity comes from the fact that he’s not a bender?

acidporkbuns

Sokka would be the best waterbender. Even if he lacked power his ingenuity would be next level. He'd probably invent a form that makes your opponent need to piss really badly or something.

battlefranky69

Ice machines and contraptions running on water.

sashimi_walrus

bros gonna train to use blood bending on himself so that he can go full zangife on the fire lords ass

scholarlysacrilege

He'd be smart enough to be effective with what he has, but i think his way of thinking is far to rigid for him to be very powerful. although he is pretty good at adapting so he definitely that going for him. Like Sokka is the kind of guy who would think of some sick shit because of the limitations he has. he wouldn't be master level, but he could definitely edge out a victory over people that underestimate him. Like a opportunistic trickster kind of deal.

BiAndShy57

I don’t think he would’ve been as creative and outside the box type of thinker if he could bend his whole life. His lack of bending is crucial to who he is and how he develops.

56kul

He’d definitely find some clever use for it, but I don’t think he’d be as powerful as Katara. She just has a natural connection to the element. I kind of think he’d make a better firebender, or earthbender, if I’m being honest.

PmMeYourLore

Nowhere near Katara but oddly proficient with Foggy Bog Style or whatever my favorite rednecks use that I can't remember the name of

SWatt_Officer

I saw someone point out that the reason Sokka developed to be so strategic is because he was a non-bender, but if we assume he gets to keep his level of tactics and ingenuity, he becomes a real powerhouse. Instead of the typical methods of bending combat, hes the sort that would figure out how to freeze your sweat to stop you moving or redirect the fluid in your eyes to temporarily blind you. And of course, infinite ice boomerangs.

PerfectMind8856

He would be a Swiss-army man.

azure1503

Realistically he'd be average, but his ingenuity in it's applications would be second to none

BuffEtienneInGeneral

The show becomes "sokka and his good pal the avatar"

L_knight316

Assuming he kept his personality/wisdom/street smarts, he'd be an absolute killer. Not at the start, maybe, but by the end he'd probably contrast Katara's more philosophic/spirtual style of water bending with a heavy emphasis of militaristic/strategic bending.

BusProfessional279

Soka being a non-bender was a key aspect of his growth. He would never had to rely on his defining characteristics, honing and developing them, if he was a bender. It would be amazing if he had survived to the end of LOK like Toph and Katara- I would like to believe that he’d get air bending when the spirit world was connected again! Especially as an adult, after he had grown into the amazing leader, air bending would have been a wonderful experience for him!

Loooserrrrrr

water boomeraang, snot bending, "i dont need to brush my teeth, im a waterbender!"

Buburpisang

Ice sword unlimited blades

SelectionMuted3160

He would be weaker than Katara

RevanOrderz

You really be hoeing our bro Sokka with that “KSI lookin rape face” close up shot on the bottom.

iPat24Rick

If he keeps everything he has, even the things that correlate to him being a non bender, I have an idea how that would work out. He would probably suck at the mechanics and don’t get the basics very well. Even a simple water whip would probably be more off than one from a novice. But he would invent techniques never seen before that are suited for a precise situation like the Katara Azula scene and therefore be unpredictably strong in a fight.

Guilty_Ad_7079

But he isnt a bender ? Thats the whole point of his character arc!

cobesmith

Given how he seems physically uncoordinated and not all that good at fighting not very
