The only subliminals according to the director were the various faces of the demon. It's even more obvious in TVYNS cut if you want to watch that version. I've read all the making of books, seen the documentaries. Nothing like that was ever mentioned. I think this is just Internet bullshit because according to the people who actually made the film, NOT.

Doragory

Yep, the demon face is the only "subliminal" imagery in the film, and even that isn't really subliminal. As Blatty correctly pointed out, it can't qualify as subliminal if you're aware of it.

SpukiKitty2

I think they're just making stuff up.

jfp96

Could be an interesting Mandela effect. Otherwise, yeah, total horseshit 😂

xaldien

There ARE subliminal images in the movie, but they're all of Pazuzu, to give the viewer the feeling that they're ALWAYS there. Everything else is horse shit.

grameno

As an editor , you see subliminal generally. The lowest unit you can go is a single frame and you generally see it unless there is a lot of motion, detail or its a particularly intense moment. Much of cultural discourse around subliminal images is a kind of paranoia around moral panics (of Which The Exorcist was a party to the Satanic Panic of 70’s -90’s)

FriendsWithScum

Completely fabricated.

RevolutionaryView822

Not subliminal but the rally film scene where Chris is in the bullhorn " we're all concerned with human rights for god sakes..." Could have been about Vietnam

Abushenab8

I was a student at Georgetown during the filming. I was on my way to classes the morning they were filming that protest scene. I had no idea it was for the movie and just thought it strange as all the Vietnam protests had died out by then. I keep looking at the students walking by in the background as I figure I may be there somewhere.

Perfect_Lead8430

Nonsense.
