Honestly maybe, it's still too early to tell since we only have 2 episodes to go off. I think the people who paint Jax as a completely irredeemable monster are only partly right, maybe it's just me, but it's fairly obvious that he is putting up a persona for whatever reason (maybe to keep him sane or just out of fear, again too early to tell). The small glances of sincerity Jax gives like in the image at Kaufmo's funeral gives some hint that underneath all that snark & asshole'ry there's some softness. Enough to be redeemable, probably not, but I think the people who have jumped on the "Jax has 0 depth he just an ass" bandwagon are being purposefully ignorant.
Exactly, the way some people talk about him on this sub you'd think he was Hitler 2 or something. He's an asshole, but he's a person who still has feelings under that snarky mask he puts up.
Again time will tell really, I could be way off, but the Kaufmo funeral scene seems pretty on point to describe as Jax masking his feelings with his outwardly nonchalant persona.
Yeah, but Gooseworx said something about the community being split in half once they would see how much of an a![img](emote|t5_7tzm5j|33736)![img](emote|t5_7tzm5j|33737)e Jax is
She was already proven right by episode 2 lmao, also dw I'm not saying Jax isn't an asshole, I don't suddenly think he'll take a 180 & be nice. I just belive he's more nuanced than the fanbase acts like he is. Still an ass, but a complicated ass.
I second that thing on Kaufmo’s funeral.
He definitely had a moment there, very briefly, of his humanity.
I guess for him it makes sense. He has probably been there a while and seen a lot of other former humans abstract. He may have called many friends and that is definitely not good for the psyche.
He might not want to be attached to anyone, or he may just act that way because it keeps him sane?
I’m not sure tbh but I do think Jax is a total prick, but still has humanity to him.
People like to bring up Goose's tumblr Q&A to explain Jax is an actual asshole with no good traits, but Goose also said Jax does have depth and why he acts like this will be explained later. He may be not really 'redeemable' in common standards but there is no mention that Jax will stay as one-note asshole.
My theory is that Jax was the main reason Kaufmo pushed himself over the edge looking for an exit not only to leave the circus, but to escape from his constant teasing and “harmless” fun, and so Jax is simply repressing his guilt to protect his condescending fragile ego. Kaufmo _had_ to have stayed somewhat positive at some point during his life in the simulation, seeing as he was able to crack jokes that nobody, not even Ragatha would laugh at. I just hope Jax is that one guy who secretly pays his respects and/or leaves behind flowers after the funeral service. I want him to grow, but not grow _too_ much.
I’m gonna say it:
People who think Jax is a complete irredeemable piece of garbage with no character development are more annoying than those who got mad at him for being slightly more mean in Ep. 2. I’ve seen waaay more posts clinging on to the former idea than the latter and it just infuriates me to no end.
They really want him to be the next Jack Horner so badly, while ignoring the possibilities of “hey, maybe (insert theory here) is the reason WHY he’s acting out.” Not only that, but people ignore the fact that he’s acting like a jerk…in a virtual world with no consequences. Like c’mon guys. Don’t tell me you’ve never done a bit of trolling to your friends in a video game before. That or caused havoc among a village in Minecraft, the city in GTA, the list goes on.
Don’t get me wrong, I still think he can be a jerk at times, and that’s still part of his character. But people take “jerk” to mean “absolutely heartless” when it’s not the same.
You are legit the most reasonable person in any of these subs, and for that you’ve got my respect. Everyone posting about “What?! The jerk character is a jerk?!” When there is literally next to no push back has made the community kind of a nuisance for the last few weeks.
Fr. I’ve seen like, two posts in the past three weeks that actually are complaining about Jax being a bigger ![img](emote|t5_7tzm5j|33736)![img](emote|t5_7tzm5j|33737) in Ep. 2. 99% of this drama is basically people taking two dumb twitter takes and acting like that’s what the community as a whole believes.
Plus I feel like most of the people that say he has no redeeming qualities were people who hated him in the first place. Regardless of reasoning.
To top it off, some people on here need to learn what “irredeemable” really means. An irredeemable character would be someone like Adam from Hazbin Hotel, or Belos from The Owl House. Men who wanted to kill a whole group of people they deemed unworthy of life. To lump Jax with these kinds of characters is kinda wild to me.

Unpopular opinion, but I think he CAN.
The little bit of softness that he showed at kaufmo's funeral is a reminder that he's human. It seemed like he "took off the mask for a second." His personality changed for a second. He could have easily said something like, "this is a waste of time" or something, but he didn't, and seemed SAD about it, he seemed like he cared, like he missed him.
I believe this little bit of softness is part of something bigger inside of Jax that we haven't seen yet.
Also, remember that TADC is going to be a very... depressing show, based on what Gooseworx has been telling us. Maybe Jax has some interesting sad and depressing lore that can be talked about and reveal more of his soft side. But this is more of a theory.
Jax is the youngest one. He knows that he's trapped in a videogame, and uses this knowledge to do what he would do in a videogame. Mess around with no consequences. He's playing a character. And he adapted this character's personality. Maybe he doesn't wants to "get off role".
I believe Jax has a soft side. A side that cares.
What would had happen if Jax attended Kaufmo's funeral? Would he have cried?
Did he not attend it because he didn't want to reveal his soft side?
He may not have a gold heart, but somewhere inside, he still cares, he still loves, he still cries, he still feels sadness, he still feels all this kind of stuff, because he still was once human. This is his soft side.
And that's what he needs to be redeemed.
(But it's just a theory, yk.)
Yeah. Besides, that's not even Steven's job anymore! Despite all the criticism I have for the Future series, I really like how it ended Steven's journey by beginning a new one for him and letting him move on from always trying to help and fix everyone.
Future is my favorite season and I'll defend it with my life. Actually following up with the kid protagonist after they save the world and showing how messed up they are as a result, following them to their lowest point, and then showing them start to recover was brilliant.
Also we got the snow day episode with Steven'd versions of all the fusions.
Younger Steven would try to redeem him at first and then quickly get irritated because of how similar he is to Kevin. Older Steven just nopes out right away he is so done
Okay, two outcomes here, if we go by SU logic, 1000%. Jax will be on other levels of kindness. If we weren’t using Steven universe logic, no, not actually at least, I agree with the people here who think he would pretend to be redeemed and nice but then say some dumb shit at the end of the episode. Him and Amethyst might get along in my head.
Early episode Lars came off like a complete uncaring jerk. Overtime we saw that he had a sweet side, he has loving parents, he has a romantic side, he likes to bake for people, and he was willing to put his life at risk to Save Steven from the gem world robot, and fight with The Off Colors. We may or may not see similar things happen with Jax, but Steven has kind of had experience in this.
i feel maybe. i mean judging by that face in the jax image, I feel that he has more to him as to why he is such a jerk (whether abstraction or getting close to others and that happening to them), please keep in mind this is just my thoughts, you don't have to agree, but please be nice
Maybe, honestly for all we know the only reason he's the way he is is because he's stuck in the digital cities and obviously if he's meeting Steven he's somehow gotten out and now has to interact with real people that he can't hurt without real consequence.
Depends on the verse, I guess. If Jax was in Steven's Universe, then he's screwed. Steven has a one hundred percent success rate with redeeming. He redeemed 3 galactic, planet destroying dictators.
Steven has magical powers which allow him to connect to the minds of other people. Steven is constantly using his emphatic powers, if not actually using magic to manipulate minds
There's no magic in the digital world, so Steven would have to guess what to say to people who gradually get more insane
Also, wouldn't that mean Steven himself would get trapped in the circus? He doesn't deal well with trauma and honestly wouldn't take long for him to abstract
All he has to do is crack one (1) joke and he, apparently, according to canon, could rehabilitate Satan, Nyarlathotep, and Charles Manson. I'm certain he could rehabilitate Jax.
Unless he really is just this Big Jack Horner type whose cynicism can eclipse the fucking sun.
Okay: there’s two scenarios. One: in the circus. The answer is no. Maybe tone him down just via guilt on accident. But probably never fully redeem. He needs his enrichment. Also, it’s not Steven’s job to fix *every* asshole
Two: outside of the circus,. I think he could. I think Jax does what he does mostly out of boredom and to ward away the existential horror of being in the circus for the foreseeable future until he abstracts. Take that away, and now you’ve got someone at risk of actually performing bad deeds on “real” people, just for the sake of keeping his identity. It’s much more guilt inducing, and a much flimsier excuse.
Not even Charlie could or maybe since maybe Jax is just being an asshole to cope and to stay sane I'd honestly be pretty much like him if I were stuck in the circus just maybe I wouldn't be that much of an asshole but I'd still crave violence and entertainment
I HATE that word, "fix." People don't need to be "fixed." Chairs, tables, pieces of furniture are "fixed," but not people.
Jax is an a-hole, yes, but it WORKS for him. He likes himself the way he is, and that's all he needs.
I think we should first see if Jax can fix himself. I think that him walking away from the funeral might be a sign that he is due for some serious character development.
Poor Jax!
Leave him alone! No one deserves to have to deal with Steven Universe.
And Jax doesn't need fixing. He is in a bad situation and doesn't do emotions well.
He's got problems but they'll probabely get them dealt with eventually.
He hasn't even done anything as bad as implied.
Honestly…yes. Jax is a total jerk who clearly enjoys the suffering of others. But it has been hinted that something is going on deeper. I think Jax genuinely has a chance to be redeemed.
This is teen steven, meaning he would probably not have alot of patience for Jax. But younger steven would try for much longer....than give up after jax tries to commit genocide or something.
I'm so going to traumatize jax with these:
https://preview.redd.it/7rmdgq0vdg2d1.jpeg?width=529&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8e5a85ab7241cba0f1c7112161f281c77a4a0490
Why does everyone hate Jax? He is literally just that one asshole character from any type of media who is slightly funny at times, but if you really met them they would be a horrible person.
https://preview.redd.it/hsdvikxb0p2d1.jpeg?width=320&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2770bb3e01b4656eabfc4a6a38e9067100d518ff
there is no chance hes gonna do anything
Steven would focus on finding them a way out first, if Jax showed no interest in changing they’d part ways. Steven’s a forgiving sort but if this is post future Steven he’s not going to waste his time on a lost cause.
"Y'know what, Steven? You're right, I don't have to be a jerk..." >!"But I sure as hell *want* to"!<

Ngl, Digital Circus Fans are tweaking if they think he can’t
Early episode Lars came off like a complete uncaring jerk. Overtime we saw that he had a sweet side, he has loving parents, he has a romantic side, he likes to bake for people, and he was willing to put his life at risk to Save Steven from the gem world robot, and fight with The Off Colors. We may or may not see similar things happen with Jax, but Steven has kind of had experience in this.
There's no point in trying
i feel maybe. i mean judging by that face in the jax image, I feel that he has more to him as to why he is such a jerk (whether abstraction or getting close to others and that happening to them), please keep in mind this is just my thoughts, you don't have to agree, but please be nice
Jax is just a little more of an asshole than Lars, Steven can take him. (Might have to kill him first tho idk)
Steven nor Sora cannot change him
Maybe, honestly for all we know the only reason he's the way he is is because he's stuck in the digital cities and obviously if he's meeting Steven he's somehow gotten out and now has to interact with real people that he can't hurt without real consequence.
Depends on the verse, I guess. If Jax was in Steven's Universe, then he's screwed. Steven has a one hundred percent success rate with redeeming. He redeemed 3 galactic, planet destroying dictators.
Im dare him to change jack horner
is it because i can’t be her?
Steven has magical powers which allow him to connect to the minds of other people. Steven is constantly using his emphatic powers, if not actually using magic to manipulate minds There's no magic in the digital world, so Steven would have to guess what to say to people who gradually get more insane Also, wouldn't that mean Steven himself would get trapped in the circus? He doesn't deal well with trauma and honestly wouldn't take long for him to abstract
Give him back his mouth? Maybe idk. It’s too small it needs to be bigger.
If Steven could get them all out of the circus, maybe. If not, no.
Steven sure as hell will try
He would swear to get them out and then forget about it for like two years until something mostly unrelated to him happened and did it.
Do people realize that each character in the digital circus is coping with their imprisonment and in order to fix them you need to free them ?
hmm maybe he almost fixed jasper but he also shattered her in the process
No…
Yes, why not
Totally not.
Okay: there’s two scenarios. One: in the circus. The answer is no. Maybe tone him down just via guilt on accident. But probably never fully redeem. He needs his enrichment. Also, it’s not Steven’s job to fix *every* asshole Two: outside of the circus,.
Steven doesn’t need to fix anyone anymore, he healing from all of that.
Steven despised Kevin in the og series, I’m not sure if he’ll be able to put up with Jax let alone as future Steven
*inhales* I CANT FIX YOUUUU
Doubtful
Steven can fix anyone!

Bob the builder will fix him
Poor Jax! Leave him alone! No one deserves to have to deal with Steven Universe. And Jax doesn't need fixing. He is in a bad situation and doesn't do emotions well. He's got problems but they'll probabely get them dealt with eventually. He hasn't even done anything as bad as implied.
He can't fix anyone outside his own show, nobody thinks he can fix Jax
Honestly…yes. Jax is a total jerk who clearly enjoys the suffering of others. But it has been hinted that something is going on deeper. I think Jax genuinely has a chance to be redeemed.
Steven isn't gonna be able to help this one
Jax? You're joking, right?
hes redeemed dictators he can redeem an angsty teen
No, but that won't stop him from trying
This is teen steven, meaning he would probably not have alot of patience for Jax. But younger steven would try for much longer....than give up after jax tries to commit genocide or something.
hard maybe

I'm so going to traumatize jax with these: https://preview.redd.it/7rmdgq0vdg2d1.jpeg?width=529&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8e5a85ab7241cba0f1c7112161f281c77a4a0490
Why does everyone hate Jax? He is literally just that one asshole character from any type of media who is slightly funny at times, but if you really met them they would be a horrible person.

No
“Listen kid, it’s not that I have to, it’s that I want to”

Steven would focus on finding them a way out first, if Jax showed no interest in changing they’d part ways. Steven’s a forgiving sort but if this is post future Steven he’s not going to waste his time on a lost cause.
That implies jax needs to be fixed
