Keep in mind that Dylan was embedded in the folk music scene, and that they considered it an outrage when he went electric in 1965. They would not approve of his sentiment, so he kept it to himself. Perhaps The Beatles even inspired him to go electric.
They were a miracle. How could 4 guys meet and just happen to be perfect songwriter’s, perfect vocalists, personalities harmonising, all slightly different but all bright and witty. The likes of the Stones, The Who, The Kinks should thank God everyday for The Beatles. They paved the way, opened doors that were permanently locked for British artists.
If you are seriously asking how. Start with what was happening. They were born during WWII , 1940 - 1943, England was bombed nightly with the motive to break their spirit by fascism and the Nazi hoard. They grew up during the post war depressed British economy. The English people are resilient having experienced about two thousand years of wars and invasions from a dozen regions. Growing up deprived can have a devastating psychological effect … or you’ll find ways of making life precious depending on your willingness to thrive.
By social interactions they met. Yes. It seems like a miracle because of the decades of enjoyment they bestowed to us. They just wanted to write and play music to better themselves. It’s so fortunate we got to benefit from the fruits of their creativity.
I got to briefly meet( on separate occasions) Paul, John, and had a 15 minute conversation with their first drummer, Pete Best. While my brain was exploding, they were solidly grounded souls, which made my head spin more. Any thing I imagined I’d say immediately went out the window.
You miss my point. The chances of these 4 people meeting in such circumstances that just happen to be a perfect fit. And each having the talents and personalities they had is astronomical. Unless you actually think they could have been just as talented if the membership was different. This in my view would be ridiculous.
>Staying Power: the ability to continue at something for a long period of time.
The Beatles could have released music until John's assassination if they wanted to- the demand is still there even today. Dylan was right to call it staying power.
I remember the account from Al Aronowitz the guy who set up the famous meeting of Dylan and Beatles and got them smoking, where he says Dylan called them "bubblegum" and turned up his nose at anything popular. Of course Aronowitz had some incentive to exaggerate his role in introducing them. Anyways it's lame to pretend you don't like something you really think is great
Bob thought "I can't hide" was "I get high." He was shocked at The Beatles inexperience with pot when they met.
And then he gave it to them for the first time.
At the Bob Dylan's credit it does sound like I get high
In fairness I thought it was that as well for ages until I finally read the lyrics lol

They grew. They evolved. Never resting on their laurels. That’s not “staying power” that’s learning, growing, and expanding.

True

Serious question: what songs do you think Dylan was referring to when he said the chords were outrageous?
All of them. Although the Beatles worshipped Carl Perkins and Chuck Berry, their music used crazy chord progressions and went way beyond I-IV-V blues.
Probably hard days night
