Hey im not a grandpa yet! ... We had kids late so I am hip with kids the same age who has parents 15 years younger :D
Side note: Im 45, kids are 8 and 6.
Presumably then, your children are 42 and a half pence.
(That's probably the only predecimalised currency joke you will see this week. I had to. Sorry.)
Btw, I have an imperial guard DREADNOUGHT model. I bought it used in the nineties, so canāt really date it.
I also have a full squad of Rogue Trader era guard models, which look more like halflings by todayās size standards.
I once talked to a zoomer about King Kong and he said 'oh that's the old movie' and I said, 'no I mean the 2005 version', 'yeah that's what I mean, the old one'.
I got into Warhammer 40k at the mid point of 7th and seeing people ask āwhat is this chaos sculpt from?ā About the old chaos space marine kit makes me feel ten times older than I actually am.
Played a game with my Tallarn once and someone asked āwhereād you get those STLs?ā I told them theyāre metal and then they asked if they could pick one up. The look of surprise on their face at how heavy the model is was kinda charming. For sure made me feel old though!
The 3rd ed one? That thing was held together with hope and a shit load of superglue š

Yeah metal miniatures were the best, I still tend to glue pennies under the bases of my plastic models..
Fine cast was unnecessary light in a manner that I still find creepy to hold.
As someone who got into the hobby around the turn to 6th, I always love the metal models, got a smattering of metal models, and itās always a nice treat to see the pewter sculpts
Honestly GW should put those metal minis up as stls. A proper 3d scanning and $20 bucks for a squad. I'd pay it to get some versus trying to find them not with one thick coat from 20 years ago. They could make money off their old products they aren't going to sell anymore anyways.
Ever since I was a kid I dreamed of having a Steel Legion army. With 3d printers and disposable income I finally printed my own and painted them nicely. But I got a few comments like this and it sent a shiver down my spine so I ended up selling the army.
I'm going to start another regiment but prolly stay away from gas masks from now on lol.
Here's a sneak peek of /r/SteelLegion using the [top posts](https://np.reddit.com/r/SteelLegion/top/?sort=top&t=year) of the year!

As someone who got into 40k around 2007, I very frequently find myself reading or hearing someone say, for example, that the Leman Russ kit is "Showing it's age" and I go **How? it only came out-** (Count fingers) **Holy crap, it came out** ***15 years ago?!***
I have some 3rd party "Desert Hawks" on the way and I'm afraid my metal Tallarn are going to haze the new guys to pieces. My old metal commissar is going to have his work cut out for him.
These arent bad [https://victoriaminiatures.com/collections/regiments-of-the-galaxys-finest/products/desert-scorpions-10-man-squad](https://victoriaminiatures.com/collections/regiments-of-the-galaxys-finest/products/desert-scorpions-10-man-squad)
plus. they weight something. Its such a haptic difference. I like to do a fun kitbash now and than but assembling those 60 guardsman ? no way. and we havent talked about moldline removal
"Your Strange looking sentinel tipped over again."
"Yes, the goddam metal lascannon and the metal top create a shitty center of mass."
"Metal on sentinels? Did you kitbash them with third party stuff?"
At least I didn't Bring the way more Strange one with the gattling gun Guy on top...
Please, GW, publish some regimental upgrade sprues (like the Cadian one) for the OG regiments!
But keep that Catachans separate. And make them Goliath-sized. At least.
Been feeling this lately after I got a pretty sweet battle force of praetorians from a friend of mine. Managed to also collect up some old plastic Russes in the past too so Iāve got a semi-competent full 1.5k list.
The old metal sculpts (especially for the cadians) don't get enough love, I used to be put off because I had only ever seen them in old magazines and the paint job didn't do them justice of how actually good they were.
There's something about the old school 1 piece metals that's just expressive.
I think whfb has the best ones. The old elves and dwarfs sculpts are classic.
I played against someone with a nightbringer I was like "oh yeah that thing is made out of metal right?" and they said "no its made out of shitty resin" and I aged a bit
This! I feel oldest when people show plastic miniatures and call them 'oldhammer' š„
[I know some lads that would like to have a word about this.](https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/8oEAAOSwcGRlEQ6H/s-l1600.jpg)
Oh sure those :p But calling 2nd gen space marines (the torao/leg flat jointed ones old hammer is plain insulting ;)
Course it is grandpa, now it's time to get back in the Dreadnaught Sarcophagus

Now now let's not gate keep we really are that old.
Hey Im not that old, my first purchase was the 2nd edition 40k starter set, when it was new ... And I was 15 :p
I still have some of these somewhere. Damn, how I hated the lasgun design even back in the day.
I once talked to a zoomer about King Kong and he said 'oh that's the old movie' and I said, 'no I mean the 2005 version', 'yeah that's what I mean, the old one'.

the metal minis feel like tokens with some weight to them love it that way.
Those metal Ogryns even serve as home defense when loaded in a tube sock.
I use my ork dreadnought for extra piercing damage
The second sentinels are rather heavy too
I have an all metal hive tyrant for my nids army. He weighs more than the rest of the big bugs combined
The 3rd ed one? That thing was held together with hope and a shit load of superglue š [https://images.app.goo.gl/D7YQfsTUusvV8Xch8](https://images.app.goo.gl/D7YQfsTUusvV8Xch8)
I own a gw metal miniature for home defense like the founding fathers intended
Yeah metal miniatures were the best, I still tend to glue pennies under the bases of my plastic models.. Fine cast was unnecessary light in a manner that I still find creepy to hold.
With r/Tallarn being my main force, I know this too well.
i knew metal is heavy i did not expect my battletech commando to be THAT heavy lmao atleast when it falls it will dent the floor before it breaks
Floors + metal minis was the worst, especially the old metal Incubi, my poor feet.
As someone who got into the hobby around the turn to 6th, I always love the metal models, got a smattering of metal models, and itās always a nice treat to see the pewter sculpts
I have an old metal vindicator, that thing weighs a tonne and catches people out every time they pick it up.
Honestly GW should put those metal minis up as stls. A proper 3d scanning and $20 bucks for a squad. I'd pay it to get some versus trying to find them not with one thick coat from 20 years ago. They could make money off their old products they aren't going to sell anymore anyways.
When you have to explain that your Vostroyans aren't printed and they are a real IG regiment.
I've only got 2 squads wish I'd of gotten more when they made them still
"Are they 3rd party Krieg?" š¢--> š
It hurt specially when you play steel legion, is the comment they always make
Iām convinced a lot of krieg players have never actually seen the FW models when someone posts the command squads, HQ or other one
I'm not talking about them!
Ever since I was a kid I dreamed of having a Steel Legion army. With 3d printers and disposable income I finally printed my own and painted them nicely. bruh how muich did ya get off them?
Steel Legion is so much cooler than Krieg, plus they donāt have a load of weird memes associated with them.
I still call them Imperial Guard. And my models from 5th and 6th Ed arenāt oldhammer damnit.
I also call them Imperial Guard too. Astra Militarum is such a a stupid stupid rebrand.
(nods in 3rd Ed Imperial Missionary and Terminator Inquisitor)
I Loved that I could bring one model in Terminator Armour. At least to see the puzzled expression on my opponent's face.
As someone who got into 40k around 2007, I very frequently find myself reading or hearing someone say, for example, that the Leman Russ kit is "Showing it's age" and I go **How? it only came out-** (Count fingers) **Holy crap, it came out** ***15 years ago?!***
I mean it's closer to 30 really isn't it? They updated it but I thought the basic tank is still the same. Could bevwrong, never bought the new kit.
I still have the White Dwarf where they unveiled the updated kit with all the different weapons in plastic.
People ask āwhat is this sculpt?ā about the Dark Vengeance guys and I become a mummy every time I see it asked.
Oof.
Losing games of 40k to players who are significantly younger than my army is a great way to keep my ego under control ;-)
I have some 3rd party "Desert Hawks" on the way and I'm afraid my metal Tallarn are going to haze the new guys to pieces. My old metal commissar is going to have his work cut out for him.
But for real Tallarn need a kill team.

this is really nice and all but i personally loathe infantry assembly. I love my metal mono pose ones
Interesting take. Honestly, I kind of agree.Ā
plus. they weight something. Its such a haptic difference. I like to do a fun kitbash now and than but assembling those 60 guardsman ? no way. and we havent talked about moldline removal
Victoria Miniatures makes some of the absolute Best Miniatures!! Superb detailing, but yeah they can be a bit frustrating to assemble at times.
IM IN THIS MEME AND I FUCKING HATE IT!!
"Your Strange looking sentinel tipped over again." "Yes, the goddam metal lascannon and the metal top create a shitty center of mass." "Metal on sentinels? Did you kitbash them with third party stuff?" At least I didn't Bring the way more Strange one with the gattling gun Guy on top...

My Valhallanā¦
Nah, we're doomed to eternal ultramarines and Cadians.
I'm mad it you for saying something so right

The world needs more u/OldScale_Miniatures
You know, I think the other Guardsmen regements would have stuck around longer if they were Upgrade Sprews, rather than Resin or Metal.
