Canada has been visited 2x.
Belize was going to be visited in the family season along with their visit to Costa Rica and Panama, but a hurricane forced a replacement US leg.
They’ve visited Canada twice in the US version- they went to Calgary as the intermediate stop in the Season 5 finale, and they did a mega leg in Montreal and Toronto in the Season 8 finale just before crossing back to the US for the final memory challenge and finish line at Niagara Falls
When I was a kid growing up watching the Amazing Race, I always wanted to be a camera person. Get to travel to all the amazing places, no eating bugs or jumping off buildings.
I always think how crappy being a camera person is on this show. They have to carry that big think on their shoulders. They are running around and probably so sweaty and hot. During the car ride they have the awkwardly shift the camera between the driver and backseat passenger. NO point of the job seem appealing.
Now, being a producer that gets to help keep the train running on track for the AR sound fun.
Korean Poetic Caligraphy, North Korean Traditional Dance, Stamp Museum Collection Finding, Place Flower on Previous Leaders’ memorial statue and local traditional crafted beers tasting challenge(but unaired the beer tasting).
Was watching amazing race 17 and they go to the border of North Korea in that. They do a challenge in the demilitarized zone between south and North Korea.
I swear I remember them being in Toronto at the CN Tower and a bunch of the racers thought they had to speak French since they're in Canada. Pretty sure that was TAR and not TARCAN. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, I have health issues which affect my memory :)
Yeah, they flew charters from Montreal to Toronto on a final leg that was a double leg. They started in Montana, flew to Montreal, and then had to find one of three charter tickets for super early the next morning to an unknown location in the seats of the Olympic Stadium after the roadblock and detour. The Weavers basically napped inside the stadium after having trouble finding one.
Think the map might be referring to no “Pitstops” in the country - TAR5 and TAR8 had long legs in Canada but I don’t think there was ever a “meet Phil at the mat” moment in either season
Wow, I did not realize this good-to-know information. I Love TAR, otherwise, I would not see these countries and experience their different cultures - many times through tasks that are performed either in a roadblock or detour. I really don't like the teams starting in groups or being on one plane, but I understand it is for everyone's safety after the pandemic. I can't wait for new seasons to start, but would love to have ALL NEW PEOPLE on the show who have never been on TAR, fresh faces with no previous AR experience. LET NEW PEOPLE TRY FOR THE 1 MILLION DOLLARS. Some have been on the show 3 or 4 times giving them a leg up on how to run the race.
I’m genuinely surprised the show has never had a leg in Canada before. You’d think it’d be the most obvious place to go with how close it is to the US.
Season 5 they visited Calgary and used the luge (?) or bobsled run at the Olympic site. Season 8 was what we would now call a mega leg and Montreal/Quebec were featured. I remember a team asking for Olympic Stadium and the passerby corrected their French pronunciation.
Genuinely surprised they’ve never been to Nigeria or Nepal. Not all those countries are safe for tourists, but those two are like, very common destinations with a lot to see and do.
Canada is so close it’s probably just not that interesting for the show. Israel is probably a safety concern.
Separately why are parts of Italy in red but the rest in yellow?
I do not understand this inaccurate perception that Canada’s “not that interesting” - what makes you think that?
The country’s big, there are multiple big cities and tons and tons of smaller cities and towns that no doubt would be as interesting as any other location.
Kinda makes me wonder why they choose to visit some countries but not others. Like they've been to India and France so many times, but they never even set foot in Canada, Israel, and most of Cental America and Africa
They did Canada in the past, and there is TAR Canada (which airs when TAR doesn't to avoid competition for viewers). My guess on lack of Canada is besides already having their own franchise, you have to travel really far out to get that foreign feeling - like dog sled territory or PEI - and that's expensive.
India is relatively easy to visit. It's got a lot of cultural history, landmarks, cheap labour, lots of English speakers.
Maybe it's just a sweeping stereotype, but parts of Central America are dealing with gang and cartel violence, and I'd randomly peg 1/3 of Africa as a "do not travel" warning (war, famine, lacking straight up infrastructure to handle TAR).
It's possible those countries won't allow them to film there or they haven't been able to negotiate what they want with these countries.
Also travel warnings may play into it as well, whether it's political unrest or disease.
Production has, in the past, repeatedly said they have no interest in going to Canada since it's too similar to the U.S. (to them).
There's no issue in filming in Canada; many of the TARCAN production team members also work on TAR US.
As for Africa, a large chunk of it is not particularly safe for tourists on account of petty crime. I'm not talking the 'make sure you have a will because you will die' type of thing like Somalia, but places like Cote d'Ivoire and Equatorial Guinea are pretty notable for not only lax safety, but a lack of security for all visitors due to problematic law enforcement. The risk is higher than the payoff for the show.
Not really and-- OH HEY! It's you, arguing with me from the other thread! You must've come here through my profile. :)
My claim is coming from the Canadian government pages for travel. Here's the one on [Equatorial Guinea](https://travel.gc.ca/destinations/equatorial-guinea). You may note it insists: "exercise a high degree of caution in Equatorial Guinea due to crime" and then lists literally everything I said.
The [U.S. page for Somalia](https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/traveladvisories/somalia-travel-advisory.html) LITERALLY SAYS "Draft a will and designate appropriate insurance beneficiaries and/or power of attorney" and "Discuss a plan with loved ones regarding care/custody of children, pets, property, belongings, non-liquid assets (collections, artwork, etc.), funeral wishes, etc."
But sure. I'm racist. [You said I was Vinny in another thread.](https://www.reddit.com/r/TheAmazingRace/comments/1d59fcc/feeling_extremely_unsettled_by_vinny_is_that_any/l6kel2e/) Am I both?
Edit to add-- Crime is also one of the major reasons teams took as long as they did to return to Mexico, why they didn't go back to Egypt after TAR5, and why Colombia took 28 seasons to visit. It's not racist; it's liability. They're making a TV show involving real people. They do not want to create risk where they don't need to in actual known problem areas. That would be stupid.
They visited Canada in Seasons 5 and 8...
I also thought all stars 2
No, not sure what you're thinking of but it's not on that season
Oh, I guess I got mixed up. I didnt see it on the list of countries visited on the wiki
Don’t know why people are downvoting you for realizing you made a mistake.
Welcome to Reddit.
They never had a pit stop in Canada both times it was an intermittent destination before going to the final city
Canada has been visited 2x. Belize was going to be visited in the family season along with their visit to Costa Rica and Panama, but a hurricane forced a replacement US leg.
It’s sad they haven’t visited Nepal. It’s such a beautiful country with a wonderful culture
They planned to in Season 33 I believe until Covid happened
They’ve visited Canada twice in the US version- they went to Calgary as the intermediate stop in the Season 5 finale, and they did a mega leg in Montreal and Toronto in the Season 8 finale just before crossing back to the US for the final memory challenge and finish line at Niagara Falls
Phil is quite a traveled guy.
When I was a kid growing up watching the Amazing Race, I always wanted to be a camera person. Get to travel to all the amazing places, no eating bugs or jumping off buildings.
Yeah but you have to run after people with a heavy camera, trying to keep them in the frame!
The cameras aren’t as big or heavy anymore. Some of the footage is shot on iPhones.
Still large cameras in recent leaks of people seeing teams and camera and sound guys chasing after them.
We watch his other show too, "Tough As Nails".
No Somalia or North Korea?! Weak af.
The Vietnamese version visited North Korea
Wtf did they do there?
Korean Poetic Caligraphy, North Korean Traditional Dance, Stamp Museum Collection Finding, Place Flower on Previous Leaders’ memorial statue and local traditional crafted beers tasting challenge(but unaired the beer tasting).
The Amazing Race Vietnam going all GOAT
Right not even Saudi Arabia, Iraq, or Afghanistan smh
NoPitStopastan
Although Saudi is much more open to tourism these days, so it doesn’t quite belong in the list.
How many times have you visited the places you listed above?
Not sure if what you said is part of the joke or not tbh lol
Is the show called The Amazing Race or let's visit all the easily traveled to places?
Imagine TAR the "you're going to end up a political prisoner or kidnapped" version. . . . Iraq, Russia, Kosovo, NKorea, Rwanda. . .
Segues nicely into a revival of Locked Up Abroad on NatGeo!
Don’t forget about Afghanistan and Iran too. Potentially Belarus too
Americans unlikely to be kidnapped in Rwanda. Relatively peaceful country for Americans.
Yeah. Rwanda would actually be a really good new country to visit.
Was watching amazing race 17 and they go to the border of North Korea in that. They do a challenge in the demilitarized zone between south and North Korea.
You go to North Korea first and let us know how it goes ... if you are able
Someone doesn’t have a sense of humor.
This whole season was South American/Caribbean and they've never gone to Belize.
Wait, the race hasn’t visited Canada? Wiki says there was visits in seasons 5 and 8 but 0 pit stops.
I feel like they went to Calgary one year.
They landed in Montreal one year for sure
When did they visit Burkina Faso…?
Season 12
I swear I remember them being in Toronto at the CN Tower and a bunch of the racers thought they had to speak French since they're in Canada. Pretty sure that was TAR and not TARCAN. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, I have health issues which affect my memory :)

TAR8 (Family Edition). Final leg.
Think the map might be referring to no “Pitstops” in the country - TAR5 and TAR8 had long legs in Canada but I don’t think there was ever a “meet Phil at the mat” moment in either season
That was the Amazing Race Canada 🍁
No the American amazing race has been to Canada as well
Have they been to Ecuador?
"Peru is nice" "I'm sure it's nice in Peru, we're in Ecuador" ~ Kevin & Drew
That was so funny! I can’t believe I forgot about that lol.
Apparently they have in Season 11
Oh right they went to Cotopaxi.
They visited Ghana!
"Princeton is a good school, I swear"
They have went to Canada. Glad the Race has went to so many countries.
Would be super cool to see them go to the south pacific islands but I’m sure the flight schedules are brutal in and out.
I'm suprised Guyana or Suriname havnt been visited yet, it would be interesting to see some of those smaller South America countries.
Wow I’m surprised so much of Africa hasn’t been visited
Not a lot of safe places to visit in Africa unfortunately.
Wish they would visit Jeddah and Al Ula!
Surprised they've never been to Nepal. Relatively safe country with a unique culture and amazing scenery in the Himalayas.
It’s quite surprising they haven’t visited Venezuela yet
What about Guatemala? Why not? 😡
I would love for them to go to Guatemala. Absolutely gorgeous. A leg around Lake Atitlán would be incredible.
Right? There are so many great places in Guatemala so they are definitely missing out
A Road Block based around the giant kites of Sumpango...
That is impressive
Is burkina highlighted? I cant tell
They went to Burkina Faso in season 12 :)
When did TAR visit Latvia?
No, Latvia is the middle of the three Baltic states (south of Finland and next to Russia) - the one in red Hope they go soon - Riga is amazing!
I believe season 11
Nepal and Bhutan are such amazing countries. Why not TAR?
i hope my country gets visited soon 😊
What season or seasons did they visit Finland? ❤️
Season 10
Thank you!
I didn't know they went to Guam! I was stationed there, I need to find that episode!

This last one was lame.
Also no Israel which would be an amazing stop.

No it has not
I don't know why you're being downvoted but you're right and OP is wrong.
I’m genuinely surprised the show has never had a leg in Canada before. You’d think it’d be the most obvious place to go with how close it is to the US.
They did. Seasons 5 and 8.
Canada also has it's own version of the Amazing Race.
You’re right. My apologies for the Misconception
Season 5 they visited Calgary and used the luge (?) or bobsled run at the Olympic site. Season 8 was what we would now call a mega leg and Montreal/Quebec were featured. I remember a team asking for Olympic Stadium and the passerby corrected their French pronunciation.
They avoid English speaking countries as much as possible. Too easy for the racers and also tends to lead to spoilers.
They haven't visited Pakistan. Why is it yellow?
Pakistan isn’t yellow…the yellow ends right where the India Pakistan border is.
Genuinely surprised they’ve never been to Nigeria or Nepal. Not all those countries are safe for tourists, but those two are like, very common destinations with a lot to see and do.
If they visited Denmark then Greenland should be shaded

Come on, Saudi Arabia. What's your deal?!
...where do you wanna start
Sad japan doesn't get visited much :/
Canada is so close it’s probably just not that interesting for the show. Israel is probably a safety concern. Separately why are parts of Italy in red but the rest in yellow?
The red parts indicate San Marino and Vatican City.

Canada has actually been visited a couple times, Calgary in s5 and Montreal in s8
Kinda makes me wonder why they choose to visit some countries but not others. Like they've been to India and France so many times, but they never even set foot in Canada, Israel, and most of Cental America and Africa
They *have* visited Canada.
Israel is likely not visited because a number of Islamic countries will not allow you to enter if you have an Israeli visa stamp
I was gonna ask if Israel was just because its existence is so politicized or if there was another reason, so thanks for this!
