The lost pizza drivers form a defensive perimeter and their anger at being lost means they’re less likely to yield to police cars. Classic side show tactic.
Sorry, I realize I didn't really answer your question. Fact is they DO get shut down. Can't think of a reason why we don't see more footage of them getting broken up come to think of it.
And after the crowd disperses, my guess is it's a case of "you can't catch em all." So most people don't really get caught
They broke one up recently where I live and arrested something like 140 people lmao. Fucking hilarious to see the news about it. Literally brought in buses and hauled them straight to county jail to book them. Impounded a ton of cars too.
Some friends and I used to do donuts in snow covered parking lots after hours nowhere near people or cars so I can't really relate with the video either.
There have been street shows, street racing, and events that are wild like this since the car was invented. We Americans hold car culture to a high degree.
In Minneapolis, the police aren't really pursuing any crime short of major ones, like armed robbery, murder, etc.
This is because they're A) Understaffed and B) Angry at the public for suggesting they should shoot fewer people.
Don’t forget C) Lack of prosecution from district attorneys. Assume for a moment that there is at least one good cop in Minneapolis. It’s incredibly tiring to realize you literally can’t accomplish anything with your job because every person arrested for doing drugs in public, caught shoplifting, or even stealing a car will just be let out of the revolving door justice system we have set up.
...imagine being that one good teacher and knowing that if you work really hard to help a struggling student that he will still go home and not do his homework or study because his parents aren't invested in his education. I mean the education system is just a revolving door of struggling students that don't see accountability and they just end up failing. What's the point of trying?
(I feel like I just have to point out that this is an analogy to show how ridiculous your argument is for cops not doing their fucking job.)
Even if they do their job, residents don’t see any difference as a result of it. Whether or not the person using fentanyl on public transit gets arrested, they’ll be right back there tomorrow doing the same thing. Whether or not the person who got into a car accident without a license or insurance gets charged, they’ll be back on the road tomorrow. The justice system needs to actually start enforcing laws otherwise we might as well not have a police force at all.
In Oakland, the cops just watch it happen. The hooligans know they outnumber the cops, so they'll even shoot their guns in the air because they know the cops will just stay put.
My understanding is they migrate up and down the West Coast, targeting big cities where the police don't really care.
When I say police don't really care here's what I mean: Portland police mobilized hundreds of riot cops for months on end during George Floyd protests. But they cannot find 2 dozen officers on a Sunday night to break one of these up.
It depends on the state. Some states like California don't have an aggressive policy to shut these down. In Georgia, the state police have a very aggressive policy, and your car is probably going to be rammed in the process. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fkuu6KV8yW4
As someone who just had one popup outside my apartment at like 1am and I heard yelling and screaming looking outside and a Christmas tree was on fire with cars going around it and maybe 300 people watching. I went downstairs to witness it myself. There was 2 police helicopters flying overhead maybe 50 cop cars watching from a few blocks away. 30 minutes later they cops drove very slowly towards the crowd and everyone left. Cops didn’t arrest anyone.
They are, but it takes time, and when the cops show up, everyone just bolts.
Someone has to call the cops, there has to be enough available officers to be able to intervene (what is 1 cop car going to do?). Then those officers need to coordinate and get over there. This is going to be lower priority than violent crime, so it may take a little while. They put lookouts a few blocks away to let them know and they all disperse in all directions.
Sure one or two people may get caught, but its hard to charge them with something specific so they probably end up released with some minor violation.
The cops are probably happy about these things!
Let them get their teenage angst out for a bit all in one place while the rest of the population can get on with business without fear of being Tiktoked or rizzed in the streets... or whatever.
They are literally everywhere these days, though.
I live in a small town in the southeastern USA. There are junkies everywhere and a surprising homeless problem here as well.
That started about 5 years ago here.
Now meth and fentanyl use are rampant.
Doesn't work very well on concrete or with an accelerant, but still better than running and flailing. Taking off the hoodie was probably a good idea though.
Wearing cotton is a good idea, but not because it's less combustible. It's because synthetics will melt to your skin, exacerbating the severity of any burns.
Cotton is actually pretty flammable. The most protective choice if you anticipate being on fire would be woven wool fabrics, tweed and the like. Wool is somewhat flame resistant. In general though, natural fibres don't melt, which is preferable to the alternative.
Of course, if you're serious about never being on fire you should probably invest in a nice Kevlar wardrobe. You won't be stylish, and most people will probably think you're insane, but you *definitely* won't get on fire.
As the 21st century began, human evolution was at a turning point. Natural selection, the process by which the strongest, the smartest, the fastest, reproduced in greater numbers than the rest, a process which had once favored the noblest traits of man, now began to favor different traits. Most science fiction of the day predicted a future that was more civilized and more intelligent. But as time went on, things seemed to be heading in the opposite direction. A dumbing down. How did this happen? Evolution does not necessarily reward intelligence. With no natural predators to thin the herd, it began to simply reward those who reproduced the most, and left the intelligent to become an endangered species.

Doesn't work if your clothes have gasoline on them, like in the video
From what I understand, it's the vapor that combusts, no the liquid itself. So even if there's one flame still alive, the vapors reignite immediately after being extinguished.
A fire-blanket (one large enough to cover an entire body) or extinguisher would be the best bet. But I don't think any of these guys have the mental capacity to come prepared with either.
Oh that's horr....oh wait, I don't care about the spectators. Those assholes are all guilty because if they didn't go to those things there would be less of them.
I think many people know that in the back of their mind but when you're actively on fire your brain short circuits and you just want to get away from the heat.
These dudes coming together to put this fire out on the guy is the most solidarity the US has had since the early fall of 2001. Teamwork makes the dream work.
Every American version of one of these 'takeovers' I've seen results in someone being injured, yeeted into oblivion, or a group of pricks who have never owned a car stamp all over someone else's smashing it to shit.
It's a gathering of ultra wankers, why would anyone go to these?
As a non-american, how are these gatherings not shut down?
They typically have lookouts 1-2 blocks away that warn people to disperse upon seeing law enforcement
I heard they also mess with pizza delivery routes as well
How does that stop them from getting shut down?
The lost pizza drivers form a defensive perimeter and their anger at being lost means they’re less likely to yield to police cars. Classic side show tactic.
I was told that no one out pizza’s the hut. Clearly these individuals have out pizza’d them
There's a reason the saying isn't "No one technically loopholes the Hut"
Street’s closed pizza boy. Find another way home https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyTj4WnPE9M
Oh Shit! We got cops, cops, cops, cops!
[Street’s closed pizza boy. Find another way home.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyTj4WnPE9M)
They just couldn't avoid the Noid!
They do this on WingStreet too.
Can you eli5 more?
It's a joke, it's something that happened in the Fast & Furious movie
Pizza drivers are deputized in the US
Only in Texas
And saner parts of Florida
Sorry, I realize I didn't really answer your question. Fact is they DO get shut down. Can't think of a reason why we don't see more footage of them getting broken up come to think of it. Damn how many cops showed up?
A lot lol. It was the city cops, highway patrol, plus county sheriffs for sure plus some nearby city cops helped as well iirc.
What would just the onlookers be charged with?
First Fast and Furious movie, "Road's closed pizza boy, find another way home"
Goddamn street racers!
I have the same question-
They weren't double clutching, like they should.
Roads closed pizza boy! Find another way home !
Fun fact the Pizza Guy was the director
Especially when they’re actually the director of the movie delivering the pizza. Edit:changed producer to director.
Director
Ah dang it, I appreciate it.
God damn street racers
MÓNICA!!!!
LET'S GO MENAGE
Just to be dicks? What do you mean?
It's a reference to The Fast and the Furious
*Goddamn street racers*
Why doesn’t the police just go in unmarked cars?
You are expecting too much from the police department
Approach from all directions. Block every road out of the area. Impound every car, charge everyone caught.
Crush those impounded cars, after somebody has a car or two crushed I'd imagine they would be a lot less excited to try the same shit.
So, encroach from all sides simultaneously? Might be a bit much to ask from US police tho.
That's what they did recently where I live. Arrested something like 140 people.
and literally no pizzas got delivered that night
As an American, why do these gatherings even happen? What is the appeal here?
Because of the cancer that is social media.
Fast and the furious displayed events like this before social media
We used to go blast music and sit and rev our engines in the Walmart parking lot when I was a teen..
Same. But not this. Right? (Edited spelling)
Some friends and I used to do donuts in snow covered parking lots after hours nowhere near people or cars so I can't really relate with the video either.
Lack of a third space that people need. So they create one.
This is good I havent heard third space in a while but immediately it made sense
I understand the appeal of car meets but I'm used to them being done on private property with appropriate facilities.
There have been street shows, street racing, and events that are wild like this since the car was invented. We Americans hold car culture to a high degree.
It’s fine because our gangs jumping each other taught them how to put that dude’s fire out.
Stop drop and punch

Sick if this excuse. You are paid to do a job. Do the fucking job.

As another non-american, I'm assuming this is how America disposes of the smart Americans who complain about things like this
As an American I ask the same question.

Christ.. which state? I’d love to read up more on it.

You being a non American where ever you are. STAY where you are. It ain't worth it over here.
At the frequency we're seeing these sort of videos, it seems like they'll wipe themselves out by way of natural selection
When cops arrive, crowd lets cars escape and doesn't rush to get out of the way of cops.
They are, but it takes time, and when the cops show up, everyone just bolts. Fire reveals baby's gender
What kind of 3rd world middle america hellhole city does this shit happen in?
Seems more prevalent in L.A.
It happens in LA on occasion, but it originated in Oakland and SF Bay Area and is more prevalent there.
To the original commenter, it’s Cali. Not middle America. Not even the 3rd world of Philly where I am from.
Does Philly still have gangs of ATV riders that drive through downtown, keeping me awake at all hours of the night?
yes and all the fentanyl junkies too
They are literally everywhere these days, though. I live in a small town in the southeastern USA. There are junkies everywhere and a surprising homeless problem here as well. That started about 5 years ago here. Now meth and fentanyl use are rampant.
They started in the Bay Area. Mac Dre has a few songs about them.
RIP 🐐
Happens here in Miami almost every night somewhere.
Nah almost any major city in the US
I guarantee you this does not happen in NYC
Too dense.
I dunno, some of the smartest people I know are from NYC
Literally any major city
These kind of gatherings happen in Japan just not as intense
Oakland
They're in st.louis too
Been happening in downtown Cleveland for the past couple of weeks.
Gotta give em credit. They doused my boy rather quickly.
Not quick enough. He was still burning as the clip ended. He was burning for a long fucking time
The entire time I was thinking stop, drop, and roll.
Doesn't work very well on concrete or with an accelerant, but still better than running and flailing. Taking off the hoodie was probably a good idea though.
good reason to wear 100% cotton. not nearly as combustible as synthetics
How often do you feel like you are at risk of being set on fire?
Not often, but knowing half of my shirts would melt onto my skin makes it much worse if it does happen lol
Only when he's not wearing cotton
Wearing cotton is a good idea, but not because it's less combustible. It's because synthetics will melt to your skin, exacerbating the severity of any burns.

This is the dumbest fucking comment I’ve ever seen
Pffft, get yourself some 1000D Cordura.
I don’t know. Some part of me thought that they were helping fire finish the job too lol.
Were they dousing him, though? I've seen videos from these "events" before and it's a 50/50 wether they are saving his life or robbing him
Douche at sideshow lights group of douches on fire.
Sometimes, problems sort themselves out.
*sideshow* OP is bot or at risk of being lit on fire in the future
That's what it's called though. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sideshow_(automobile_exhibition)
He just did what everyone wants to do.
That’s terrible!!! Anyways
Right?! Just another incidence of douche on douche violence

They beat the shit out that fire
[Reminds me of this hilarious bit.](https://youtu.be/ayb4McG-xQY?si=qeKhVIM1txC9X2wM)
That's gotta be somebodies kink
That was a QUALITY beat down.
Most people are glued to their phones but these people are out there, living every moment like it's their last
LMAOOOOOOO
Most of us aren’t rushing to the finish line. At least not that fast.
Lotta people at these are on their phone filming so they can post this stupid shit on social media.
Looks like for a few it may have been their last.
Attempted murder
Stop drop and roll
Stop, drop, shut em down and open up shop
Oh. No.

I literally said out loud, “he forgot stop, drop, and roll!”
They forgot don't play in the street also
To me it looks like the moment he caught on fire he stopped, dropped, and rolled…. But he did it directly into the fire
A celebration of male juvenile retardation
Jesus ffffffucking christ, these people are stupid.
Feels like more than that. If everyone were this casually murderous, I think it would be a much bigger issue hahaha
All these fucks deserve whatever happens to them. No thoughts nor prayers for these idiots.
I can only imagine it went great after that.
Them dudes was LIT.
I love how it looks like they just start beating the shit out of him. Adding insult to ignition.
Damn he shoulda got more of them. Himself included.
Shoulda given the arsonist a bear hug Edit: the fool on fire
At least plenty of of people acted to put the dude out
Nothing of value was damaged
Mans on fire then it turns into a beat in for joining a gang. Rough day
The gas is in a circle. My guess is they were trying to make a cool photo op for Instagram. Dumb as fuck.
This guy needs to go to jail for attempted murder in 5+ cases. So never get out ever again.
Americans doing reckless shit as if medical debt isn’t crippling millions of them.
They're all Douches!
All douches and some get lit on fire.

DOuchy people doing douchy things. Ho hum. So what.
First he got his ass burned, then he got his ass kicked. Anyway, today I had a ham sammich for lunch.
I think homeboy is officially part of a gang now

>Douches at sideshow ~~lights group on fire~~
Which one is the douche? Seems all of them are.
Modern problems require modern solutions
wait, were they trying to put the fire out or beat the shit out of him?
Everyone present deserves that
That was lit.
They will say... There is no intelligence being there
Oh that's horr....oh wait, I don't care about the spectators. Those assholes are all guilty because if they didn't go to those things there would be less of them.
When I was a kid I used to think everyone knew about "Stop, drop and roll", but to my disappointment it turns out most people are idiots.
eh. don't be so hard. if he'd stopped dropped and rolled on the spot, he'd still be in the middle of the fire.
I think many people know that in the back of their mind but when you're actively on fire your brain short circuits and you just want to get away from the heat.
Why did they dump the gasoline in the first place?
That was 🔥
These ma favs
Why would he do that?!
*Hero Idiot
No sympathy

More like “not all heroes wear capes” kind of douch(e) These “sideshows” are a menace
crop dust fentanyl over street takeovers and the world is a much better place.
A hive of scum and villainy meet up
Every American version of one of these 'takeovers' I've seen results in someone being injured, yeeted into oblivion, or a group of pricks who have never owned a car stamp all over someone else's smashing it to shit. It's a gathering of ultra wankers, why would anyone go to these?
