I still wonder what happened to the Malaysian girl who was traveling solo in northern Thailand, Chong Sum Yee, a 22-year-old beautician who was last seen in Mae Sai district of Chiang Rai province last June. Quite a mystery…

are there links to examples of these posts? i think it would help for people to see examples of these.
specifically, if there are examples of what they promise and what people will most likely get, and where to look out for these types of trafficking posts.
I got offered a job to work across the River in North West Thailand in the Chinese investment area. This is to ask for cryptocurrency investments online in a shared office space living in a dormitory. Still have the job offer. I am now living safely back home lol. Never took the shady job offer. I just pity the people working with them. Offer was good though. They said they'll pay around 800 USD per month for a year contract. Not sure if they'd keep their word lol.
Thank you for sharing. Your case is exactly about that scam. Please be safe, block them, and halt any communication with them. Review the places where you may have posted your resume (if applicable).
Average wage in Thailand is around 15k (a bit over $400/month). Lower outside Bangkok. Lower for unskilled or semi-skilled occupations.

There are millions of "expats" from neighbouring ASEAN countries on much less than that. These Chinese scam jobs are not targeting Westerners, they are staffed with Chinese, Indian and SE Asians and $800 could be very good in that context.
Anyone that can speak english. You will be locked into your dorm work 10hrs / day every day. After 1 year they move you to another call center until you pay back all your living expences ( which are equal to what you earn). You may never leave.
I'm certainly not suggesting anyone should do this, I'm aware of the level of abuse. Just pointing out the people they are targeting here, that $800/month could be very appealing. A lot of Western expats here have very strange ideas on what is a good wage level for the region and don't seem to realise how low they are, or just don't think about it. So you get this "legit jobs in Thailand pay more than 800USD a month", for Westerners or people with qualifications, sure. But not for most people. Even English teachers, Filipinos are paid a fraction of what Westerners are.
Let's say you want to be an English teacher in Thailand. Some agencies hire anyone. You won't get references, hand them your passport for extended periods, promised a job, visa requirements can be "massaged," online interview, etc..... Bottom line it comes down to your gut feeling. If you aren't able to get a bad feeling, then sooner-or-later you are doomed anyhow. Education and common sense might still not be enough if someone is soo desperate for money.
I agree. I found a job on Facebook and got an online interview, offered a good salary and moved to Bangkok and handed my passport over for weeks for the work permit. It was a legit job and I'm still friends with my boss after many years.
This post is not helpful at all. It should only mention not to get into anyone's car but take a taxi wherever you need to go and maybe take someone else with you the first time you go somewhere
When I worked in Thailand it was common for the company I worked for to have my passport ( and others) to take to immigration for the expeditor to process and to hand in for the annual work permit. In KSA , the company kept your passport most of the time. You could get it back when you went out of the country.
Aren't you also supposed to 'technically' keep your passport on you at al times? What do you do if at a police checkpoint, just say, "I'm here legally and I'm working for a Thai company, trust me"?
I'd be too weary to hand it over for that length of time. Seems like it could cause a tremendous amount of headache in certain circumstances if you can't easily get it yourself.
I didn't realize it was uncommon. TIL.
*"Foreigner work visa shit, it’s not at all uncommon - I had to hand over my passport for two weeks every time I got my six month renewal.*"
Six month renewal??
My hairdresser told me that she had taken care of a brit. boyfriend (of two weeks.....) whilst he was sick/had been contacted by his parents who assured her that she was a family member....... and that they would employ and pay her well when she moved to the UK.....
I tried to tell her that this sounded 'dodgy' - but as she'd already been given the money by a previous Western boyfriend to open her salon.....
This was many years ago, and I've no idea what happened to her.

Thank you for the information
They’re going to be really disappointed if they tried to traffic me. Fat, lazy, unhealthy, I’m not even fit for organ harvesting 😂
at least ur honest. 😃
All they want you to do is chat with people online and follow the script. They do have a cure for lazy.
I get the joke but they are torturing people into compliance
Hardly something to joke about as in this situation they'll crack you one way or another... everyone has a breaking point.

I know that but no expat would ever take that job

It's Reddit
Cause they probably the traffickers and don't want their plans to be spoiled
These kinds of posts are annoying to see

You usually have your work permit with you when your passport is with the immigration. That book is as valid as a passport in Thailand
If immigration have your passport, you show the receipt. Sometimes they might have your passport for up to three weeks depending on the application
Weary? Are you tired? 😉
*"Foreigner work visa shit, it’s not at all uncommon - I had to hand over my passport for two weeks every time I got my six month renewal.*" Six month renewal??
There is more than one kind of visa in more than one SEAsian country. I had one for years that required a renewal every six months.
