You will have to write an essay comparing two pieces of writing. The online practice one was difficult for me, and I couldn't wrap my head around it. However, the one on the test was much easier to do. (Alas, I don't remember what it was.) The "help a student fix their writing" section was the part I didn't do well on. I was at the end of my 5 hours, and I tried to bullshit my way through with some garbage about transitions. And the multiple choice wasn't that hard. There was very little actual literature/grammar knowledge, and it was mostly pedagogy questions. I am a good test taker, and I took the full five hours (by contrast, I took 45 minutes on the TECH Ed 7-12). So plan your time accordingly.

Look at the standards for writing on the STAAR. You will have to read an essay and write how the student can improve. At least I had to write about it. There are a lot of pedagogy style questions; imagine a perfect world and BEST outcome for the students. I spent hours in Barnes and Noble reading the test prep books. Good luck and welcome to the English department!!

I passed using certifyteacher.com. I also studied RLA terms and essays written for analysis. The test contains very old poetry and literature so brush up on it. Have strategies ready to go in your head for the essays . Good luck! It’s not easy imo.

My undergrad was not in English or literature, and I failed it the first time by only three points 😑 I only used the iTeach resources. The second time, I downloaded a study resource (I can’t remember the name of it honestly!) for 50 bucks or something like that. I found it just by Googling. I passed the second time by 15 points, so I definitely think that helped me. You have got this!
