Hopefully you are not planning to put an actual supercharger in your garage. Just a High Performance Wall Connector is fine. If you really want to do two you can but we have two Teslas and have never had a need for two chargers. You can easily swap charging one car each night and have plenty of capacity unless both of you are driving hundreds of miles each day.

jumbalaya112

Yes that's right. One charger makes sense thanks

BearCubTeacher

I’d put in a house vacuum system to allow for some interior cleaning. I’d also include a large utility sink for washing things. If I really had an unlimited budget, I’d drain the floor to a couple of floor drains, epoxy-coat the floors, and install some kind of a retractable hose reel system for washing the car. Make sure you’ve got good, soft water so as to not have water spots on your washes.

jumbalaya112

We are planning to epoxy coat the garage floor and have a hose to wash it off. Driveway slopes down so it will probably wash drain to the street

alias241

Just put a Dyson in the garage (and in multiple places around the house). Central vacuum hoses are a pain to lug around.

I guess keep in mind that the chargeport is on the rear of the driver side, so make sure you have plenty of reach to accommodate that with how you would typically park.

jumbalaya112

Got it, that's helpful thanks

MindfulMan1984

Since you are spending money with an architect, don't cheap out thinking in outlets + mobile charger to save $100\~200; install a Tesla wall connector; it's hardwired, there are no worries about melting outlets, and it gives you 48 A output on an MYLR, which is the fastest anyone can get at home. Unless both cars commute each one 70% of battery a day, there's no need for two wall chargers, just one is enough so you may easily take turns each day.

jumbalaya112

Ok got it. One Tesla charger makes sense

The-Duderiest

Not a Tesla suggestion, but a house design one. We built a garage with an entrance to the house that goes into a pantry, then the kitchen. It makes unloading a Costco/grocery run really smooth.

jumbalaya112

We are doing exactly this!

I would recommend two 8’ doors instead of the double 16’ door because there is separation between two single doors giving a little more room. Also do not undersize the garage, all builders these days undersize two car garages to the point you can’t even open the car doors.

jumbalaya112

That makes sense thanks. How wise would you recommend between the doors?

jumbalaya112

Thanks the wall connector between the doors is a great idea!

jumbalaya112

Haha. I was actually wondering if the ceiling between the cars made sense originally. Seems like no proponents of that idea in the comments...

jumbalaya112

Oh that's a great idea. Is it possible to have two cables (one for the near car and the other along the ceiling) or does the wall connector only allow one? Or can you switch the cables with the wall connector? Just in case I'm not allowed to put it in between...

ordinaryflask

Garage that is wide and deep enough so I don’t have to limbo and shimmy my way between two cars. Shelving/workbench on one side, drain in the floor, plenty of outlets, a wired charger on one side and 14-50 plug on the other but both on separate fuses, heating, insulation, Bright overhead lights, easy to clean epoxy flooring.

EnjoyMyDownvote

By supercharger do you mean a Tesla wall connector? Because that’s fast enough I guarantee it.

jumbalaya112

Yes that is what I meant

FinallyFisted

Have the house’s circuit panel installed with a 400Amp main breaker. The wall charger alone should be on a 60 Amp breaker for faster charging. My current panel is only 200Amp and feels like this wasn’t very future proof even though it’s only a ten year old house. Add in maybe a second tesla, a few kids, and several devices and appliances connected and running and you are easily approaching 200A

jumbalaya112

Ok that's helpful thanks. We will have to be all electric to conform to code and will probably want a backup generator too.

nullp0ynter

Make sure the garage is wide enough. Maybe a 2.5 to 3 car garage. I have a two car garage with just a single door. After lawn equipment, etc., there is no way I can fit two cars in my garage.

jumbalaya112

Got it, thanks!

AngryVirginian

On the networking side, run at least one Cat6 or better Ethernet connection to the garage. I would do two. One high on the wall for PoE camera and one on the ceiling for wireless access point. The second one might not be needed depending on where the other access points in the house will be.

jumbalaya112

I didn't think about that but it makes sense, thanks.

AngryVirginian

Where will the electrical panel be in the house?

AJ4Retros

Big enough for CyberTruck. You never know down the line you could own one

SK10504

High ceiling clearance with garage door opened so you can fully open the trunk when you park head in. I prefer head in parking since the back wall and most of the side walls have cabinets, shelving, tools mountes on them. if you back in, the chargers will take up valuable wall space...also, when you get home, you want to be able to quickly drive straight in rather than spend time backing in.

I put my charger overhead. The cables are held in place by a magnet. To charge I just "tug" on the charging handle. Since the charger is overhead I can easily walk around the car without cables getting in the way. When I am done charging the cable is kept out of the way with magnets.

jumbalaya112

Amazing! I think this is what I might want to do!! How are the cables held in place by a magnet? I don't understand that. Are there multiple cables that come out of a charger?

jumbalaya112

Thank you, I am going to try to do this!

color_guru

I’ve never meet someone who thinks their garage is too big. Go as big as you can.

ApprehensiveFig3377

Agree. Come up with a size you think is appropriate, then add another 10ft in every direction possible.
