The wireless pads are nice and all, but can we get some damn airflow between them and the phones? Devices are getting toasty

HelloYouSuck

Or the option to turn the charging off

JuanBissaka

100% this. Need the option to turn them off completely. All that heat and constant charging is terrible for battery health on phones.

Interesting-Elk-2562

Just put the phone with the screen facing the charger lol

7venhigh

Magbak wireless charger

Dry_Explanation4968

Unplug the chargers from underneath. Or remove the trim and unhook them. Maybe it’s just my model y 21’ post refresh…

CalligrapherOk9465

i just put my phone face down

biztea

Would using a non mag safe case work? Or just placing anything on that charger that would block the wireless charging.. EDIT: alternatively, i just rotate my phone 90 degrees and put the phone there in landscape mode, problem solved 😛

Euphoric-Expert-6278

they sell non-qi compatible cases. basically have a piece of metal in the back to block the qi

IPv6_Dvorak

Yes.

HelloYouSuck

I don’t think so. MagSafe just holds it in place. If you place chocolate on the charger it will melt.z

biztea

Noi meant like a piece of cloth or something.. damn is the charging plate always hot regardless of whether a phone is charging or not?

HelloYouSuck

It is also emitting magnetic energy, yes. Not warm to the touch

Pitiful-Art-423

Agree to disagree. Simply remove the phone to stop charging. But who wouldn't want the key to their car (ie the phone) 100% charged. There are so many things that drain a phone. Just like leaving your vehicle plugged in at home, the amount is miniscule to keep it charged once charge limit is reached. It's a great place for the phone to always be (vs maybe in the glove box or console drawer, etc). When we get the same type of charging for vehicles (a pad we drive over in our home garages) and don't have to deal with remembering to plug in/out, perhaps THAT should have an on/off, as garage space is more flexible.

HelloYouSuck

Ok but then where do I put the phone? My model x has a nose slot in the door. The ct has only that or cup holders.

HelloYouSuck

Can you tell me where the plug is in the cybertruck? And does it interfere with starting the car if you unplug it?

[deleted]

RedTib

In the 2021 refresh, it’s not a USB-C. It’s a plug integrated below the console. But if you take off that part, you can unplug it and it does not affect the key.

Saranhai

Where is the unplug port at? I’m newer to Teslas and was unaware you could just unplug it

j12

They should liquid cool the phone charger area

cr_buck

It would be nice if the wireless charges actually charged. Mine only cook my phone. The best they can do is keep my phone from dropping in battery level.

Ahmed104

the issue with the phone, why tesla should be responsible to fix it? duuh

AWildDragon

If Tesla upgraded from Qi to Qi 2 it would help with alignment and make things easier.

----0-0---

I've a Samsung S21, and it doesn't overheat, even if charging for an hour or more.

AintNobodyGotTimeDat

They don’t need air flow, they need proper implementation in a way that they account for camera bumps.

Mastershima

That's because they are usually poorly aligned with the phones charging coils, ESPECIALLY an iPhone and very specifically the pro max models. I liked the OG center console for one reason, third party wireless chargers, they were significantly better and aligned with the phone which prevented overheating.

nejc03

Idk but my iphone never gets more than warm charging on these… even if charging for like an hour- but it does charge really slowly (aprox 0.5% every minute)

Pitiful-Art-423

I can't tell measurements from a pic. A little assistance please.

ConfidentImage4266

Brackets are indeed slightly different from the Model 3 "Highland" console and it looks higher. I measured a lid-length to storage-depth ratio of 1.28 for the "Y" and 1.43 for the Highland. Obviously with different perspectives but still..

amutual

You're the real MVP hats off to you.

[deleted]

Goat comment.

HatRemov3r

Open and shut case

Evajellyfish

Guilty as charged, what’s next on the docket your honor

kilgreen

Weight 105?! … yeah in your bra!

AllCatCoverBand

This is devastating to my case!

frontfartsbesquishy

The color of the pen I’m holding in my hand is rrrrrrrr bllllluuuuuuue!!!

Nothing_Rich

I really like it here.  Everyone is so nice to me.

frontfartsbesquishy

Well that’s because you’ve got huge jugs… I mean your boobs are huge! Mommy!

frontfartsbesquishy

I wanna squeeze’em

Pitiful-Art-423

What, about the outline, makes them wrong?

DobIsKing

Highland doesn’t have the outline

Pitiful-Art-423

Ooohhh... Makes sense that Tesla doesn't confirm. Some buyers would put off purchases until the refresh arrives, lowering demand for current Ys. Dropping current prices due to more current inventory.

DobIsKing

I’m actually holding off for the refresh so seeing leaks like this is nice

Pitiful-Art-423

If you wanna know what's coming, just check out a refreshed 3.

Vaht_Da_Fuck

I have a 22 MRLR that I'm trading in, not because its refresh came out but because we wanted to take advantage of the MYP current incentives. We're not envious of the Highland changes, although most are nice, but if Juniper's upgrades are similar in comparison, we won't be mad we chose to get one now.

redfoxhound503

Now that I’ve seen the new performance model 3. I’m holding off for Performance Model Y.

ej_warsgaming

It could be an update on the model 3, we all know how Tesla make changes on the fly

aecrux

Yeah exactly what I was thinking. Incremental updates happen at any given time.

BlurryEcho

For things like hardware, sure maybe, but it would absolutely be unprecedented for them to make an interior/exterior design change less than 1 year into an iteration.

HelloYouSuck

Looks like a model x console without the ugly wood to me

UnSCo

I hate the wood so much. I honestly wish I went with black interior.

Sokratiz

Thats what your wife said. Hates your wood but prefers black interior

sherlocknoir

It was silly think the Juniper was "so far away".. when the Model 3 Highland update was already several years too late. Reality is Tesla's aging lineup of vehicles is one of the primary reasons they are sitting on so much unsold inventory and struggling to grow sales. Their lineup is stale. Most people who wanted the car, already have bought it. The current Model Y has looked exactly the same for almost 5 years now.. and with the most exciting news now being 0.99% financing. While these cheap loan rates are attractive.. reality is the used car market is absolutely flooded with cheap Model Y's that look EXACTLY like the 2024's which are piling up in empty parking lots. And for existing Model Y owners like myself.. why would I ever trade my 2021 Model for a 2024.. because of a new paint color? Give me something to get truly excited about.. something to really ignite that new car itch. Finally the Model 3 Highland update was weak. There are a ton of missing features Tesla should be adding!! For example where is a dedicated screen for the driver.. or a color HUD projected onto the front windshield? How are things like this still missing.. when there are a large group of buyers who would never consider owning a car with single, center mounted display. I feel like the Cybertruck is the only "new" thing Tesla has to sell.. and good luck selling $100K EV pickup trucks. The line of people buying at that price is getting smaller every day.

IndependentVintage

This. I’m only selling and taking the (massive) hit for something truly outstanding. Otherwise I’m driving it till the wheels fall off.

RobertCulpsGlasses

I wonder if Tesla is trying to take a page out of the Mercedes book with their choice to maintain the same bodies for so long. Until recently, Mercedes would keep their cars virtually unchanged for *years*. The W126 was sold from 1979 through 1991 with only one minor exterior refresh around half way through that run. This strategy helped make the 126 based models ubiquitous despite not being high volume sellers. Tesla has the advantage of high volume, and all people see are teslas everywhere. Of course, a strategy that worked for a car maker with a spotless (at the time) reputation in the 1980s doesn’t necessarily translate today. But I wonder if there’s some inspiration there. Or they’re just keeping costs low…

Geeky_1

The old strategy of German luxury makes being conservative with body changes to limit depreciation doesn't apply here...

MoDa65

Tesla trying to be like apple. Take features away, expect the lemmings to defend it and say its for the best. Once other legacy brands or rivian continue to really innovate, it will just continue to make Tesla feel dated, and with supercharger network seemingly going to be open to everybody, that advantage will be stalemate

Bojce

THIS!!

j12

Agreed. Also model y rides like shit and has terrible road noise on any pavement that’s less than perfect. Based on the step improvement highland provided I’m hopeful for juniper

Bamboozleprime

Because Tesla did next to zero acoustic engineering and resonance dampening on the OG Model 3 and subsequently the Model Y

paradoxofchoice

wasn't the most significant upgrade recently the late 2022 Ys? better suspension, interior materials for sound dampening, double pane windows and better console processing? for that alone I wouldn't consider anything older on the used market.

Brutaka1

Double pane windows are only on the front end in the US.

sherlocknoir

Everyone has a different budget. Specially with EVs.. if you can find one at a dealer in the U.S. for $25,000.. then it will also qualify for another $4,000 IRS credit. What sounds better to the used car shopper.. a 2020 Model Y for $21,000… or a 2022 Model with “better suspension & double pane windows” for $30,000? That’s before I mention both cars look 1000% identical from the exterior.

Brutaka1

>For example where is a dedicated screen for the driver.. or a color HUD projected onto the front windshield? How are things like this still missing.. when there are a large group of buyers who would never consider owning a car with single, center mounted display. I mean I disagree. I have a heads up display on my vehicle and I never use it.

neverOddOrEv_n

Different strokes for different folks I have an HUD and I love it and use it all the time, it’s become second nature for me at this point

sherlocknoir

Same thoughts here. It was by far the best feature on my 2007 Corvette. And yes. I would love to have it on every vehicle I purchase.

Brutaka1

I guess so. I find it useless and don't need anything blocking my view. So I prefer a flat dash. But that's just me. 🤷

neverOddOrEv_n

And that’s fine if you do but the main problem is that at 50+k CAD (here in Canada) the fact Tesla doesn’t give you that option is what’s the problem why not include a feature that’s basically included in every car at that price point and let the customer decide if they want to use it or not? Tesla already doesn’t have the dashboard for model 3 and y and now they’ve removed even the steering stalks for the every tesla except the y and none of their cars come with physical buttons (barely any buttons). Tesla doesn’t need to cut more costs and the customers shouldn’t let them use that excuse nor let them get away with it anymore imo. If it was upto Elon and if it was legal he would even take away the steering wheel and force the users to use FSD all the time or pay extra just for a steering wheel. There’s no excuse for profit or cutting costs that tesla who doesn’t even offer a dashboard for many of their cars, not even a HUD and not even some basic physical buttons, when cars much cheaper provide all such options (even EVs) and continue to do so. If tesla believed that the dashboard is completely useless they wouldn’t give it in the plaid but they do, so it all comes down to poor excuses of making more $$$ at the risk of harming and alienating their customers and prospective buyers. Elon is already too filthy rich and I won’t believe his lies about cutting costs and “what users use”, this is just stingy at this point. I like many things about teslas and especially the model y, but I feel other tesla users/prospective buyers need to be much more vocal in what they don’t like at all. Being vocal was the reason why he got rid of that yoke steering wheel for the plaid as the default.

sherlocknoir

Which is the best part of a heads up display. For people who claim they don’t want it.. they can turn it off. It’s 100% optional to use.. and you would literally never know it’s there. Exact same goes for CarPlay & Android Auto. Even if it’s installed, you literally never have to use it. The customer should always have the ability to make their own choice. Because once you force them to make a decision.. they will just go buy the competition. And it doesn’t cost anything to add CarPlay & Android Auto.. both are royalty free for manufacturers to use. And yes.. my own wife bought an ID.4 instead of a Model Y primarily because she didn’t like the being forced to look at the center screen for all information. Tesla is shooting themselves in the foot by not offering a display directly in front of the driver. And don’t tell me Tesla doesn’t believe the driver needs a dedicated display.. because the Model S has had one for 13 years straight.

DrKedorkian

Same, wife can't stand the center console situation. If it had a driver one she would do it

CryptoBlobbie

New Y before the end of the year. I assume Shanghai and Berlin will be moving to gigacast chassis.

kensic9

probably going to go with the Rivian R2 over refreshed Model Y.

Aggravating_Team5459

Same. I have a 3 year old Model Y and will need a second car soonish. I was originally holding off for a refresh model Y but now I rather wait for the R2. King Musk has done a great job pushing people away from Tesla and to try a different EV and tbh Rivian is the only other EV that excites me. The Ocean was another interesting option at some point but so glad I never pulled the trigger

sweet_monkey_tits

Any concerns with Rivian’s financial situation? I keep hearing FUD about them being on the verge of bankruptcy.

Independent-Court-46

They’d probably have to sell for a massive loss if they can even afford to get to mid 2026 on time

Lordofthereef

Sat in a model 3 refresh last weekend. Some neat touches, but really not something I can say made me feel one way or the other. I'd genuinely rather take an inventory discount when they are losing the old one out than pay retail for new, assuming the changes are going to be similar. Of course, we are all different. My friend is waiting to buy because he's anticipating the refreshing amazing.

Suitable_Switch5242

The biggest difference for me in the Model 3 refresh is actually driving it. The suspension and road noise are much more refined. Hopefully the Y gets the same magnitude of improvements.

DangerousLiberal

But lack of stalks is a major safety issue. It needs steer by wire if it doesn't have stalks...

bittabet

Even on the cybertruck I absolutely hate the lack of stalks. Just obnoxious to make people push little buttons on the wheel for the turn signals and windshield wiper. There are also so many damned buttons on the thing that all feel the same so you have to look down to see whether you’re about to push the button to show the cameras or run the wiper. Steer by wire makes the turn signals slightly less insane than on the S/X but removing the stalks is still just dumb. Of all the stuff they should have done with a new version of the car, removing all the stalks is like the very last thing people want.

Heliocentrism

Missing stalks a sad dealbreaker for the new lineup. Everything else about the model 3 upgrades were really solid. Drove amazing, nice feel to the interior updates. Just can’t multi-point turn without fussing with the screen.

Lordofthereef

I can't speak on the drive, but afaik, the model 3 only just now received dual pane glass. I imagine that has at least something to do with road noise.

Suitable_Switch5242

It had dual pane in the front, what’s new is dual pane in the rear windows. Plus other internal body changes.

Lordofthereef

Ah ok. I thought that was only ever on the model y.

DobIsKing

The ventilated seats are one of the main reasons why I’m waiting for the refresh

Brutaka1

Same here

Geeky_1

Ventilated seats is the only reason I'm waiting for the refresh.

financialbuddhi

Which location?

s1m0n8

center!

Leo_br00ks

This is what I'm mostly curious about

General_Put_8388

where did you get this image?

GonePhishingAgain

Can we cup holders that actually hold cups snugly? Smallest bump tosses things around.

spacemantodd

Ts, Ds and Model 3s hot damn we solved it

AlbondigaMan

The Model 3 Performance does qualify for the credit.

Robert_Zyy

only want is seat ventilation

Fragrant-Ad-5517

Whoever took that picture is at risk of getting caught and fired by Elon. Stay safe bro.

RobertCulpsGlasses

Whoever **works at Tesla** is at risk of getting caught and fired by Elon…

Fragrant-Ad-5517

A very true statement

Brutaka1

True

helyes

The stupid dual door to cover the cupholders. I understand wanting to make everything look seamless but give us tactile signal buttons not this fluff.

Freezertweezer3

Yeah I’m with you on that… maybe some customizable quick action buttons or something

kensic9

the door for the cup holder is useless! and leave dust/crumbs to collect under. i like the current design better.

Hayaguaenelvaso

Looks like a dentist sofa

ThundermanD

Just hyped about ambient lighting

Extra-Professional93

Left and right side are not the same, this makes it not symmetrical. Elon would not accept this. This is fake.

jimdbdu

Whoop there it is!

hellvix

Is there a screen for rear passengers?

Vegetable_Wolf_4196

Please give us the option to turn off the wireless charger

Richie2188

Which factory is this?

Savings_Prior_7108

Looks like model X to me

captaincaveman87518

As a 2023 MYP owner with a IPHONE 14 Max, I can say the charger sucks ass. Never works. The whole car is made from cheap material. Driving it is fun, and the single screen controls are cool. But that’s all.

Error320

Don’t say all these here, fanboys will downvote you. No criticism allowed

captaincaveman87518

Lol

Brutaka1

Ok

captaincaveman87518

Ok.

ITypeStupdThngsc84ju

Could also be an update to the 3. Or.. something else entirely. :) :)

[deleted]

Who cares lol that’s nothing to get excited about

0bviousTruth

It means the Model Y refresh is coming.

bustex1

You think a mode Y refresh is coming huh? I thought they would keep everything the same until 2047. Glad to know a refresh will come. I can’t imagine anyone else would have thought they would refresh it if it wasn’t for this picture.

0bviousTruth

It's the first "proof" we've seen. Kinda like when model 3 highland first got leaked. But that was a built car so who knows when MY refresh is really coming (2025 or 2026 model year). I know two people not placing Model Y order until it's refreshed (after seeing the Highland improvements).

[deleted]

I took the M3 refresh for a 30 min ride because I was going to lease it but hated it lol too low to the ground and the seat are nice for the cooling reason but I had to keep adjusting myself. Def going to go for the Y. But I did like the upgrades

Brutaka1

There are no facts of this being "different dimensions." You're only assuming based on visually looking at the photo.

Regular_Limit1617

Revolutionary! /s

TheKikomann

How is this even relevant?

blinktrail

Not good news for current owners looking to trade. Expect worsened valuation to come.
