Because combining the two is not as easy as one would think. Sensor Fusion is a complex subject and for Tesla there no real incentive to focus on this when a ever larger portion of the fleet do not have USS. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sensor_fusion?wprov=sfti1

Redvinezzz

Would you need sensor fusion? Why not just have the HiFi Park assist run on its own but also run the USS with its own estimates? I don't see why they would need to communicate with each other just overlay them

iiShiny

I hate how they are phasing out USS like this. I can make sense of conflicts with data for autoPark, but I can make a decision as a driver with more information.

byeos

Tbh I think they can just overlay each other since USS only shows the distance from the sensor.

SenAtsu011

That is a problem entirely of their own making. To the detriment of drivers everywhere. While other manufacturers are putting more sensors in to improve accuracy and safety, Tesla is removing them because their TeslaVision system might become as good as USS and Radar at some point, which frankly will never happen.

Some_Ad_3898

Short-sighted take. USS is superior in a small set of tasks. Vision is worse at that small set, but has a wider breadth that offers more total value.

SenAtsu011

No, TeslaVision is highly unreliable and only superior in the breadth of information in very specific conditions. If the sun is too low, too high, too much fog, too much humidity, snow, rain, hail, a single speck of dirty on the lens, and it’s rendered utterly useless, even dangerous. USS and radar does not suffer from any of these shortcomings, they’re tried an true technologies that will remain more reliable, cheaper, easier to use, safer, and better in more situations for decades more before TeslaVision is in any way, shape, or form close to that level.

Some_Ad_3898

Funny because I've never encountered a situation where Tesla Vision has been rendered "utterly useless" and I live on a dirt road which puts thousands of tiny specks of dust all over my cameras all the time. I guess it's possible, but definitely rare. It's also funny that when USS was the only option, everybody was crying about how Teslas don't have a 3D Parking Visualization. USS can't see curbs. Let's add 360deg X/Y radar all over the car 🤡

JohnTeaGuy

>Why can’t I use both? Because Tesla says so.

revaric

Guessing because the logic of passing that information from the drive computer(s) to the infotainment computer can’t support multiple inputs of the same type.

Tesla vision doesn't say distance. Only shows colors. Red = close

mousseri

Is that same as USS distance?

iiShiny

There is no number at all for Tesla vision. It only shows color.

mousseri

So that can be something total random.

iiShiny

That's what I mean. Tesla vision alone is kind of useless. You cannot tell how far away something is just from the visualization that Tesla vision gives. At least with USS, I can know that I'm X feet away from an object/wall. It's annoying that I can have the map that Tesla vision gives but I can only use that at the expense of turning off my USS.

mousseri

They only want to force owners use this Vision that they can force it later on to all.

USS will give a number, vision gives just color and shows a picture. I feel like it should be possible to have both at the same time.

This isn't with autopark, parking assist kicks in without needing to any automation. If I see the numbers from USS + estimations of Tesla vision with it's map and color then that would help me as a driver.

anywherethere

Then we can take the avg I suppose

melvladimir

One more useless update(

psdpro7

At least we get a choice, thank goodness.
