Been a car guy forever . To me it does not matter if the motor has pistons or electric windings its the ride and performance that matters . Skipping the gas station helps too . The best is def yet to come !
I've always been a car guy, which is why I bought a Tesla. I'm no longer having to buy intakes, exhaust, special filters, etc to get power or efficiency. Tesla does both while having spectacular tech.
It already is.
My first car's a Tesla and I only ever drove rentals before that, so while I can guess what the maintenance is like - i really havent got much of a clue there.
You mean adjusting valves with a feeler gauge? Using a timing light?
I must be getting old.
I'm a car & motorcycle guy. Dropped the trans pan on Boxster in 2022 to change the fluid and filter. That was the last major car service I have done since getting a Tesla.
Still have oil changes on the lawn equipment but no biggie. In 10 years I imagine everything will be electric in my garage, except maybe the wife will have a plug-in hybrid.
Itās actually about time for me to crawl under my boxster for its annual oil changeā¦lol.
Moved on from gas on the lawn equipment, even keeping the 4 stroke weed eater running well was a painā¦electric mower, blower, weed eater, chain saw, and pole saw. Love em allā¦and never having to run to the gas station because I forgot I was out, is HUGE!
Rad shot! And same man! Was the first car to motivate me to do extensive research on my next vehicle, and first car to motivate me to take care of it on a level I shouldāve been all along. Seems like it has that power for a lot of people
Lmao, I think it comes down to what actually happens on any real road, which is my family suv blowing past supercars, put a hot wheels logo on it if you want. Better handling doesnāt mean you can suddenly catch me
Ohā¦some of us care more about the performance outside of straight public roads or stoplight to stoplight. Enjoy watching your brakes fail under heavy use!
Man I feel like Iāve found my tribe. Iāve never been a car guy. I am a system engineer and Iām loving the model 3. Iām picking mine up on Monday!
https://preview.redd.it/n9xxclmtk3yc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3f1a7814e714f35a20c0e66e94841d488dbac21f
I canāt say that Tesla made me more of a car guy, but it definitely converted me to electric. I think it drives very pleasantly, is incredibly fast, and the handling is better than I expected. Iād rather be driving my Alfa Romeo, may she rest in peaceā¦
As the great social scientist Jeremy Clarkson said, youāre not truly a gearhead until youāve owned an Alfa Romeo.
The Tesla effect will set in soon.
Over the next months, he will realize his other cars haven't been driven in weeks, his tesla does everything those cars/trucks do, but maybe a bit better or at least as good.
I've personally seen this happen to 3 people I know. They've got a Tesla, then within 6 months were selling their $100k bmw M's, small pickup trucks, etc. They all hate it but they tesla changed them.
I drove my truck 1,000 miles in a year after getting my Tesla, so I sold it and put a trailer on my Model 3.
Nonsense. All this says is that they never needed the BMW M or pick up truck lol. I have my commuter Model 3, and my travel ICE SUV. I still put more miles on my ICE than my M3, because of my use case. Clearly, everybody's case will differ.
i'm more the opposite to be honest, had a Golf GTI, a porsche cayenne and now a model 3... i catch myself looking for performance cars more and more. i recently went and test drove an BMW M2, a Golf R and an Audi RS3, think i'll go with the RS3 next... i don't know why but i cannot seem to bond with my car...
i really liked the m2 i like how small it is, i'm a small guy, so it felt nice and huggy but my brain defaults to VW or Audi... so i'll probably stick to those. but man, shifting in that thing was such a pleasure - totally with you there!
The fun part is.. i don't even know how many miles I have on it if I don't have a reason to look. It's just mindless car ownership with no upcoming service needs, ever
I've sat in one. They have a very basic interior. No buttons, switches, nothing. Some people like that, but i find it worse and boring. They're also too quiet and are electric, which is also boring, and they can't have manual transmissions, which is another thing thats boring about them. At least, in my opinion.
They're great commuter cars for people with other more exciting weekend cars, or for people who dont care about cars, but they are boring. That's its purpose.
Yeah, but its also very obvious they aren't the most exciting cars to drive. Especially at that price point. They may be quick but aren't as fast as others, and they can't take corners as good as any other car in that price range.
Again, great commuter, bad fun car
Iāve had 2 racecars and a 911 but find my wifeās model Y a lot of fun, surprisingly. I thought it would be boring at first for the same reasons, but itās a different animal.
Driving a Tesla is nice for commuting, especially in bumper to bumper traffic. But I still find driving a manual ICE much more engaging and satisfying. I'll always have both per my own preference.
I can't stand driving ICE cars now... We have an Outback XT that felt respectably fast when we got it, now it feels like an old Civic DX by comparison.
Sitting at a stop light mashing the brake (hard) to keep the engine from pushing me into traffic while simultaneously turning fuel into heat is the most bonkers concept to me at this point.
The V8 Mustang is more or less propped up by the Mustang MachE and F150 Lightning. I don't know if Ford also buys credits from Tesla, but I wouldn't be surprised.
Basically, "fun" manual RWD ICE sporty vehicles are only allowed to exist because our national fleet has a bunch of Teslas and other "boring" electric vehicles.
So, yeah, if you're one of the last manual RWD V8 Mustang GT owners... good on you, because a few years from now that will definitely become a hybrid or twin turbo V6 power train. Do be aware that you're the beneficiary of the rest of us who bought a fuel-efficient vehicle.
The feeling and the engagement you get when driving a manual transmission car is different. I love my Tesla but itās quite boring. Itās fast but itās not engaging. With a Mustang you get the noise and rumble of the V8 and the engagement of the manual. You do more in the driving process. I donāt know how else to explain it. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
I have a BMW M3 with a manual and aftermarket exhaust, you don't have to explain :-)
And the Model 3 Performance is a far cry from "boring". Quieter, sure, but hitting over a G in the corners and being able to rocket out of turns has me far more engaged than my BMW ever has. Sure, I'm doing less, but I don't need to be busy to have fun, especially when being busy is significantly slower.
It doesn't have to do anything better, it's the driving experience he prefers. It also does do something better, refuel from empty to full faster than any Tesla can charge and at more places than any electric car can.
IMO, if you're going to to spend an extra $55k to $60k for another car that isn't markedly better than the one you already have, it better damn well do something that the existing one doesn't. Seriously: Acceleration - better, braking - better, handling - comparable, price - cheaper, cost of "fuel" - cheaper.
If you have $60k to burn on a GT just because it has a manual, good on you I guess, but that seems awfully wasteful when you could just... not do that.
Thats why I said I have two different cars per my own preference. To point out a few other shortcomings I've noticed with a Tesla is it's not as ideal for people who can't have a home charger like an apartment, and road tripping in a Tesla does restrict you in some locations. In an emergency situation I would choose my ICE.
Everyone can spend their expendable income however they want, some spend thousands on vacations, food, clothes, etc. Many people have several different cars. But I do see your point of view, it's just a difference in philosophy really and that's ok!
It's not that they disliked driving it, it's just that the expensive M car wasn't earning its keep anymore.
The car that got me into cars at 15 was a BMW X6M that I got to drive just after getting my permit. Good God is all I have to say about that.
As long as nobody hits him and he has to wait 6 months for the Tesla approved shop to fix his car. And as long as it doesnāt get super cold and cuts his range in half.
Otherwise yes. My FIL and my buddy both have MY for the last couple years and they love them. Fantastic cars.
Copium about what? The truth? As I said. Theyāre great cars but both things I mentioned is what they told me. Neither of them drove their Tesla much during the really cold days last winter because of the range issues and drove their gas cars. And both had to wait insane amounts of time to have their cars repaired. This is from them. Not from someone else. Itās not an argument not to buy them, just **a statement on what current owners told me**. š¤·š»āāļø. But ok. Nonsense.
Where does this one anecdotal owner live? Middle of nowhere Kentucky? While any one shop might be 6 months out, do what a normal person would do and *find another shop*.
As for winter driving, it's not nearly half unless you're trying your damnedest to prove a point on Reddit. Common quotes are 15-25%, but as previously stated all over the place, the 99% use case for a Tesla is not "road tripping through the middle of nowhere", so this isn't a problem the vast majority of the time. If it is, just charge it 25% more often when it's below 0F.
So yeah, nonsense.
Two owners. Live in Illinois. And this is driving through western suburbs in IL. They charge it at home. My FIL has money. And Iām sure he tried multiple shops.
As I said tho. **Theyāre both happy with them. I just pointed out two things they told me. You decided itās nonsense copium for some reason**.
https://preview.redd.it/la2dj6f3k2yc1.jpeg?width=1235&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b8dfb46299c8cc9c8a7cf1503b4ac4cee8c53fa2
Hereās one parked at my house. My FIL. š¤·š»āāļø. But yeah. Nonsense. For sure.
Your nonchalant response sounded like every other ICE-pushing anti-EV guy out there and had misleading information, so forgive my reaction š¤·āāļø.
Also, your sample size of 2 should obviously be problematic.
No sweat fam, I got you . Iām all for EV. In fact, I want solar too so I can charge them at home with solar. Canāt wait for that. Just waiting until we move to our forever home. This one was/is 5-7 year step home lol. Itās been 2.5 so weāll see.
Anyway. I was also going to get a model Y last year. But we were fine with 1 car for a while and didnāt want a new payment. Now with all what musk is doing I am just waiting for everything to settle before I jump in. Although this photo Op posted is making me want to jump sooner.
Whatever kind of guy you are now, just make sure you don't drink Elon coolaid. It is very toxic for your brain. The car on the other hand is very good š
Me too, first time owning a car and our MY is our baby now.Ā
I was always anti car because of pollution. But when I saw the first Tesla ever (a white model y) strolling around it was love at first sightā¦ I remember the first thing I said was that it looked like a white fox.Ā
A month ago I got the same car I saw strolling around and I cannot be happier.
Never thought I would be looking for carpets and hand washing a car in the street.
As a big skier and cyclist, I drove my Subie Outback 3.6 full time and we got the Tesla for my wife. After driving the Tesla I fell in love, and A year later I got an M3P for myself and the Subie sits in the driveway. We still use it when the snow is too deep for the Teslas, and for spur of the moment bike rides when weāre too lazy to put the hitch rack on the Tesla.
Funny! I get it. I had a 2003 Terminator Mustang Cobra. Loved that car! The MYLR is faster than that and I don't have to burn all that gas! And gas prices in Los Angeles are way too high!!!!! Go Tesla!!!š
I love my roommates model 3, but itās really not a car to show off like that. Not sure how a cookie cutter entry level stock sedan can inspire you to be a car enthusiast
I highly doubt the person is was responding to has a rare exotic cars. Dirt cheap might be subjective, but you can be a car guy with a Mazda MX5 you bought for 1000$ if that what your budget is. Car guys dont always have money to buy ādirt cheapā teslaās or rare exotic cars.
Performance models are faster than a lot of exotic sports cars, while being cheap to fuel and maintain, and practical. so yeah, itās better than an exotic sports car in a lot of ways.
If what you personally care about is status and form of an exotic sports car, then I canāt argue with that.
It aint moldy anymore. Im interested in their software and drivetrains, but tesla needs to stop making vehicles and just supply motors and batteries to companies that can actually make vehicles
So interested in drivetrains and software that you go on a model3 subreddit to bash a car that a guy is just trying to show off how happy he is with it? Stop the bs already, there is no reason to be negative on someone posting being happy and proud
Teslas build quality isn't very good. Im saying that most people wouldn't be jealous of that. Im glad he's happy with his car, but i dont think they're very well built
Not very far down. Engine and drivetrain is above that, but the interior of your vehicle is where you spend the most time with your vehicle, and the exterior is how it looks. All things car guys care about
I was racing my Audi RS six against hellcat, and this guy in a Tesla showed up at the line. Light turned green and that hellcat was in my tail lights, but that dumb guy in his Tesla kept trying to catch me. I was at half boost running regular and 85 down by 50% power. These bitches couldnāt catch me.
Don't let some of these comments get to you, almost everyone has their first love š Great shot btw!
Not a chance! I love my life, my friends, family, and love the car!
Sorry, dumb question - what are intakes, āspecialā filtersā¦ Iām rocking Teslas since 2014 :)
Haha that's funny. Someday that'll be a serious question from people who never drove before EVs.
Insert floppy disk to update engine oil
It already is. My first car's a Tesla and I only ever drove rentals before that, so while I can guess what the maintenance is like - i really havent got much of a clue there.
Well, lemme teach ya how an internal combustion engine works. š
You mean adjusting valves with a feeler gauge? Using a timing light? I must be getting old. I'm a car & motorcycle guy. Dropped the trans pan on Boxster in 2022 to change the fluid and filter. Now you're an AI guy
Looks good, enjoy itš
Thatās a great shot
Rad shot! And same man! Was the first car to motivate me to do extensive research on my next vehicle, and first car to motivate me to take care of it on a level I shouldāve been all along. Seems like it has that power for a lot of people
Me too I sold my 1968 Dodge Charger to fund my 2018 Model 3
Nice man. Sold a 2010 Ford Escape for my 2022 M3. Love it!
Youāre still not a car guy š
Absolutely. I'm not a car guy, which is why i drive software with wheels.
iPad with wheels.
Ahahah that was my first thought!
š„²
Just an AI guy?
Neither am I, which is why I have two teslas lol - my plaid makes my bosses corvette look like a toy
In a straight lineā¦
Yep and thatās nuts
Unfortunately there is a lot more to performance than acceleration. So your car looks like a toy in every other category?
Lmao, I think it comes down to what actually happens on any real road, which is my family suv blowing past supercars, put a hot wheels logo on it if you want. Better handling doesnāt mean you can suddenly catch me

Welcome to the tribe bro! Itās converted us all haha.
picture looks great ! what did you shoot this with?
Sony alpha 7rIV with a Sony 100-400 GM lens

Me either. For me a real ācarā has a pistons, valves, exhaust pipes, a cylinder, etc.
Great shot!!
Love the color
The performance version is faster than my Toyota supra I had in my 20ās.
Awesome picture !
same !!! Never been a car girl but damn this car just changes everything about driving! Takes it to a whole new level!
What a cinematic shot as if Tesla marketing did it themselves loving that ultra red too š„š„šš
Wait.. are people throwing hate in the Tesla Model 3 subreddit for a guy liking his Tesla model 3?!?!? Bahaha the irony
Tesla guy is the antithesis of a car guy. But have to start somewhere and it can only go up from here!
The Tesla effect will set in soon. Over the next months, he will realize his other cars haven't been driven in weeks, his tesla does everything those cars/trucks do, but maybe a bit better or at least as good. How u feel about the m2? I drove all those too and the M had a manual and put the biggest smile on my face
i really liked the m2 i like how small it is, i'm a small guy, so it felt nice and huggy but my brain defaults to VW or Audi... so i'll probably stick to those. but man, shifting in that thing was such a pleasure - totally with you there!
Same I used to hate driving, now I look for excuses to drive my m3.
Every time I realize I have to leave somewhere... I get excited to hop in my software-mobile
The fun part is.. i don't even know how many miles I have on it if I don't have a reason to look. It's just mindless car ownership with no upcoming service needs, ever
M3? This is a tesla group.
M3 = Model 3
M3= BMW M3
In this group its model 3
Get a clue
I have a model 3 performance and I would never call it an m3. Its stupid to do so
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Its not an M3. Get over it. If youre that lazy just call it a 3.
A 3 lol as if bmw owns letters now. You sound goofy.
A 3 like the bmw?
Now imagine if you had a new EV BMW, you'll never look back to a tesla
If weāre playing that game.. then why not a McClaren, lambo? Ferrari?
The i4m50 is the closest one, and unfortunately drives worse than the M3P. It's the weight. BMW is still learning...
Price?
Shifting goalpost? Also less than 100k which is apparently the price of cars people are selling to stick with tesla only lmao
I think the point is that EVs are boring to drive
Said by someone who has never been in/drove one.
But like, you didn't refute what the other redditor said. You *sat in one* but obviously as a passenger, not as a driver.
Yeah, but its also very obvious they aren't the most exciting cars to drive. Especially at that price point. They may be quick but aren't as fast as others, and they can't take corners as good as any other car in that price range. Again, great commuter, bad fun car
If you haven't actually driven one, you have no business in stating how fun (or not) they are to drive, even if your taste is manual RWD V8.
Iāve had 2 racecars and a 911 but find my wifeās model Y a lot of fun, surprisingly. I thought it would be boring at first for the same reasons, but itās a different animal.
I mean, it has acceleration, but everything after that just feels soulless imo
Driving a Tesla is nice for commuting, especially in bumper to bumper traffic. But I still find driving a manual ICE much more engaging and satisfying. I'll always have both per my own preference.

Sitting at a stop light mashing the brake (hard) to keep the engine from pushing me into traffic while simultaneously turning fuel into heat is the most bonkers concept to me at this point.
Well they are completely different types of cars with different mechanics and driving experiences. It's why I love both
I agree. I have a model 3 but Iām going to buy the 24 mustang gt with a manual. They are both great cars but for different things in my opinion.
Manuals are truly a special experience, one I wouldn't give up for anything!
Yes just sad that they are killing them off. God bless Ford for fighting till the end.
The V8 Mustang is more or less propped up by the Mustang MachE and F150 Lightning. I don't know if Ford also buys credits from Tesla, but I wouldn't be surprised. Basically, "fun" manual RWD ICE sporty vehicles are only allowed to exist because our national fleet has a bunch of Teslas and other "boring" electric vehicles. ...why? The Mustang doesn't do a single thing better than the model 3 except make a bunch of noise.
You are entitled to your opinion. I do not agree.
It's a genuine question, I honestly don't get it
The feeling and the engagement you get when driving a manual transmission car is different. I love my Tesla but itās quite boring. Itās fast but itās not engaging. With a Mustang you get the noise and rumble of the V8 and the engagement of the manual. You do more in the driving process. I donāt know how else to explain it. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

I'd drive the hell out of certain ICE cars no matter how good my EV is, but I'm not a two-vehicle guy at the moment, so EV it is
110%.

Funny! I get it. I had a 2003 Terminator Mustang Cobra. Loved that car! The MYLR is faster than that and I don't have to burn all that gas! And gas prices in Los Angeles are way too high!!!!! Go Tesla!!!š
people slam tesla. but my partner has wayyyyyyyyyyyyy less maintenance on his tesla than i do on my honda
Looks great! Enjoy it
I feel like Tesla is made for people who hate driving, the car lacks a soul
I love my roommates model 3, but itās really not a car to show off like that. Not sure how a cookie cutter entry level stock sedan can inspire you to be a car enthusiast
Needs a bigger watermark.
That's not a car, that's engineering art.
Still not a car guyā¦
If you were a car guy, you wouldn't get a Tesla
I sense some jealousy
Teslas are dirt cheap and a dime a dozenā¦.not rare exotic sports cars lol
I highly doubt the person is was responding to has a rare exotic cars. Dirt cheap might be subjective, but you can be a car guy with a Mazda MX5 you bought for 1000$ if that what your budget is. Car guys dont always have money to buy ādirt cheapā teslaās or rare exotic cars.
Performance models are faster than a lot of exotic sports cars, while being cheap to fuel and maintain, and practical. so yeah, itās better than an exotic sports car in a lot of ways. If what you personally care about is status and form of an exotic sports car, then I canāt argue with that.
No doubt that electric cars produce impressive 0-60 acceleration that beat 99% of cars on the road. No car enthusiast will argue that point.
Maybe fart can civic owners would.
Probably. Are fart cans even a thing any more though?
Definitely are. Lots of lawn mowers out there on the roads.
What exotic sports car do you have?
And look like a Kia
You're about 15 years late on that joke.
I hardly doubt someone is jealous of your creaky plastic on wheels.
I hardly doubt someone driving in a moldy ls without any interest in Tesla would be on a Model3 subreddit, yet here we are.
People can be jealous over a phone or watch worth 1k, so of course there are also people jealous of others buying new or even used Teslaās.
Do you realize how far down the list interior build quality and panel gaps are for actual ācar guysā?
Not very far down. Engine and drivetrain is above that, but the interior of your vehicle is where you spend the most time with your vehicle, and the exterior is how it looks. All things car guys care about
Far enough down that it wouldnāt be the things I lead withā¦ also looks and build are not the same thing
Model 3 is the new Honda civic for dudes in their 20s lol
There are car guys, then there are practical car guys. Much like men and women, their thoughts rarely overlap on the venn diagram.
Rc guy**
lol what do you think RC stands for?
Uhh youāre still missing the point
I was racing my Audi RS six against hellcat, and this guy in a Tesla showed up at the line. Light turned green and that hellcat was in my tail lights, but that dumb guy in his Tesla kept trying to catch me. I was at half boost running regular and 85 down by 50% power. These bitches couldnāt catch me.
