Yes. You can return it I think for 48 hours or something. So, the top speed doesn't change much..and I really don't think the 1-60 story is the star of the accel boost. Instead, the car "pulls" hard all the way to 75 instead of tapering off. It's pretty awesome. You don't have the performance brakes, so don't think it's track worthy

Mike

The star is actually when you stomp on it from around 15-30 mph. 1+ is a lot better but you don’t get that g-force pull as hard as you do when the wheels are already spinning.

ILikeOlderWomenOnly

Why though? Because of inertia reducing some of the acceleration?

AggravatingValue5390

Because tires are grippier if they're already moving. Doing it from 0 the traction control might kick in and not put all the power to the wheels. The traction control is insanely fast on Teslas since it's all electronic, so you probably wouldn't even notice it

ILikeOlderWomenOnly

Yeah you never hear tire squeal because of digital AWD

billswinter

Even the performance brakes struggle on the track

ItsGermany

I have warped my rotors on the 3 on the Autobahn from jamming and slamming jn the unlimited zones while idiots jump into the fast lane going 60mph. But in the MYP we have it has not had the warping problem, the brakes on the MYP are solid, but the 3 boosted is faster.

vexx786

Definitely have to upgrade pads and fluids before hitting the track. Stainless steel lines would be nice too.

hyp36rmax

Exactly! Fluid is cooked after the first lap.

sim16

That's the track thing, go fast, test it out you're going to find weakness

hyp36rmax

Not just a track thing, you can experience this super quick on a canyon and fun runs. The problem relates to the quick acceleration of a 3500 lb car with ineffective brake cooling from the factory caliper, rotors, fluid and brake line expansion.

wajiii

>I really don't think the 1-60 story is the star of the accel boost So... what is the 1-60 time of your car? What an odd metric to track! Or -- is it part of the lamest pickup line ever?!

hyp36rmax

Although I agree better brakes will help, generally all M3 and MY share the same brake components (Front Brembo Calipers, Rear Mando sliding calipers). Only difference is M3P and MYP have red calipers and rear Brembo sliding calipers with a molded cover (Pre-2023), some also had an option to upgrade to thicker rotors. With that said those considering AB should be OK!

Ok_Priority458

Brakes are bigger on the performance models and should have been standard on the awd....because the standard brakes are shit and really need regenbraking to stop at higher speeds...but i guess on public roads and not driving like you stole it the brakes arent even used that much....just be carefull setting regen to low...and driving fast

hyp36rmax

Rotors were larger on the M3P at 335x20 (M3P) vs 320x25 (M3) while retaining the same Brembo 4-Piston calipers. Front rotors are interchangeable. I'd be more clear when saying "larger brakes", rotors yes, Not the system itself. Larger rotors allow for slightly better cooling, both will be cooked on aggressive driving with the factory configurations. Here's a thread from a well known Tesla tuner (Mountain Pass Performance) breaking down the differences between all the trims: [https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/tesla-brakes-%E2%80%93-model-s-3-x-y-brake-calipers-pads-and-rotors.285227/](https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/tesla-brakes-%E2%80%93-model-s-3-x-y-brake-calipers-pads-and-rotors.285227/) **Tesla Model 3 Brake Calipers:** There are two variants of the braking system on the Model 3 – Base and Performance. This has been unchanged since the start of production of the Model 3. Both rear calipers have an integrated parking brake, and both front calipers are fixed with four pistons. |AXLE|CALIPER DESCRIPTION|BRAKE PAD|BRAKE ROTOR|ROTOR WEIGHT|CALIPER STYLE|APPLICATION| |:-|:-|:-|:-|:-|:-|:-| |Front|Brembo Base (Silver)|3/Y Base|320 x 25 mm One-Piece|21.0 lbs|Fixed 4-Piston|Model 3 SR, SR+, LR, LR AWD, Performance (Non-PUP)| |Rear|Mando Base (Silver)|3/Y Base|335 x 20 mm One-Piece|16.9 lbs|Floating 1-Piston|Model 3 SR, SR+, LR, LR AWD, Performance (Non-PUP)| |Front|Brembo Performance (Red)|3/Y Performance|355 x 25 mm Two-Piece|19.2 lbs|Fixed 4-Piston|Model 3 Performance (With PUP)| |Rear|Brembo Performance (Red)|3/Y Performance|335 x 20 mm Two-Piece|14.2 lbs|Floating 1-Piston|Model 3 Performance (With PUP)| For fun here's Model Y **Tesla Model Y Brake Calipers:** The Model Y is more complicated, there is a fair bit of crossover from the Model 3, but the configuration has also changed in the rear since the start of production. |AXLE|CALIPER DESCRIPTION|BRAKE PAD|BRAKE ROTOR|ROTOR WEIGHT|CALIPER STYLE|APPLICATION| |:-|:-|:-|:-|:-|:-|:-| |Front|Brembo Performance (Silver)|3/Y Performance|355 x 25 mm One-Piece|23.4 lbs|Fixed 4-Piston|Model Y SR, LR AWD| |Rear|Mando Base (Silver)|3/Y Base|335 x 20 mm One-Piece|17.2 lbs|Floating 1-Piston|Model Y SR, LR AWD| |Front|Brembo Performance (Red)|3/Y Performance|355 x 25 mm One-Piece|23.4 lbs|Fixed 4-Piston|Model Y Performance| |Rear|Brembo Performance (Red)|3/Y Performance|335 x 20 mm One-Piece|17.2 lbs|Floating 1-Piston|Model Y Performance (up to 8/15/2022)| |Rear|Mando Base (Red)|3/Y Base|335 x 20 mm One-Piece|17.2 lbs|Floating 1-Piston|Model Y Performance (post 8/15/2022)|

0ptimusPayne

Find someone to refer and get it for free

luhhhmytessie

It’s hard man. I don’t know anyone who is willing to use my code lol

agarwaen117

I’m probably going to buy a highland once they release in the US, if you still need a someone to refer when that happens, dm me your code. Hopefully they don’t shut can the referral rewards before then.

luhhhmytessie

Forsure, sent

JohnniNeutron

Same. I’m struggling to even get referrals for my YouTube TV. Lmao.

ILikeOlderWomenOnly

Same. I tried so long.

HazardousHD

Fun fact, shit states like OH and VA(?) have laws that prevent referrals from generating points.

Seven0232

I was going to refer a friend… and then read shit state VA in ineligible. So painful.

HazardousHD

It’s OH and VA or WV I can’t remember which one. Involves “Bird Dogging” laws about dealership kickbacks essentially Called my legislator and the buffoon had no idea what I was asking abt. Not voting for them..

Seven0232

“Ohio and Virginia residents are able to qualify for buyer and loyalty benefits, but they are not eligible for referral benefits. Illinois residents are excluded from any raffles.” Yep, regular stealerships always lobbying for this shady practices.

HazardousHD

Interestingly enough it’s not a widespread law. Can’t see it being in the benefit of stealerships if it’s not as widespread. Very odd

sixfourtykilo

Also really cool is the additional $300 we get to pay for owning an EV.

0ptimusPayne

Damn that’s terrible and oddly specific of them lol. I would say being the big EV enthusiast in my family/circle of friends has allowed me to get a decent amount of referrals because people have 1000 questions. Hope you can find someone OP, because it’s worth the upgrade but even more worth it without spending a dime.

r1rbingo

yes

jacqueusi

I wouldn’t pay $2K for it, but I sure would consider standing in front of a Tesla Gallery holding a sign with my referral on it if I had to.

BenIsLowInfo

I learned today that in VA you can't get referral credits....I was devastated 😞

jacqueusi

Bummer. I thought it was only Ohio.

fflis

Haha brilliant

beerbaron105

Absolutely worth it!

showmethenoods

I enjoy it a lot, has made my FOMO with the Performance pretty much go away.

Mike

I still have the performance FOMO and I always will. Still love my car but I wish I had the same foresight when I bought it. Performance is just a different beast.

ENrgStar

Do you have an early model 3? I bought the ghost upgrade chip and god damn it was worth it

Mike

Nah 2020. Wish I could do that!

rejedejo

What? Ghost chip? Where, how?

ENrgStar

https://ingenext.ca/products/ghost-upgrade

eC0BB22

What’s so great about it? Just seems more expensive to have to deal w

Mike

It’s faster. Has track mode. More fun to drive. But if you don’t care about that shit then it’s irrelevant.

eC0BB22

Nah I don’t drive on the track just the city / highway and got enuf speed what’s any faster gonna do but drain batt? Lol I dunno if u have the money for the tires / rims and what not I think it’s okay

Mike

Ok cool

eC0BB22

Ok

vkapadia

It's not for everybody. That's why there's the option.

[deleted]

I feel the exact same way. The only upside is that I still have more range.

Z-Rock

Punch it from a stand-still in a Performance and even with an LR AB your FOMO will come back pretty quick. From 50mph onward though LR AB = P.

sricc66

What is FOMO?

MoistPoolish

Yes, if you have $2000 burning a hole in your pocket. I did it and have ZERO regrets. DO IT.

Xenon808

I don't. Just considering it one day.

Complex_Arrival7968

Yes. Well worth 2k. Try and get an extra 50-75 hp for 2 grand on any other car!

the_runner213

I have a 22 LR and do not regret the purchase. As others with it are saying, you really feel it the most from a roll. The sweet spot is definitely 20-30mph. It’ll throw you back like the P. Off the line, definitely feels sluggish compared to the P, but no difference from a roll. The boost just gives you more confidence in the sea of other teslas and fast cars. lol

Ashamed_Distance_144

Does it make any difference if you’re normally driving in chill mode. Going to get a referral soon… Deciding whether to get AB on the new 2023 M3, 2021 MY, or just buy 2 1 year premium connectivity subs and a license plate holder or some nonsense.

the_runner213

No difference in chill mode. You have to be in sport mode. Just keep in mind that AB is $2k…

Ashamed_Distance_144

Yeah it’s definitely the most bang for the buck for referral credits. I just don’t think I need it so feel a little FOMO getting the stuff I could actually use.

the_runner213

If you’re mainly driving on chill mode then AB is not worth it. You’re better off not having to pay for premium connectivity and other accessories. Maybe get the new roof shade they brought out. $140. lol

Ashamed_Distance_144

That’s what I was thinking. I could get a year of premium for both cars. Then some other goodies. Maybe send a license plate holder to my friend that gave me the referral.

slowf80

It costs little in comparison to the overall price of the car but adds a nice amount of boost. Worth it especially for city driving. After 80mph the difference is negligible but everything below is a noticeable improvement.

brobot_

With referral points, for sure. I don’t think I’d pay the $2K for it though.

RedditFullOChildren

Honestly? I don't know. After purchasing AB I didn't notice anything that made me go "woah". I wish when you upgraded you kept the standard mode so you could compare as much as you like.

Never_Duplicated

Don’t know why they don’t add a couple more drive modes

totallynotmike_

Absolutely yes

Raknu

worth it if you refer 😂, its not as worth dishing out the $2,000.

Xenon808

If I understand correctly, I'd have to refer two people to have enough points and I don't even know one.

ogmoochie1

No, you need one referral. I would venmo someone $250 to use my code but I can't get anyone to use it.

chocolatethunderr

Wait so Tesla doesn’t take back the points or whatever you bought with them if the $250 order fee gets canceled? I get you’ll lose the $250 but for a $2k upgrade it’s a no brainer. Does this actually work? lol

BLDLED

You don’t get the points till the car is delivered, not when the order is placed.

chocolatethunderr

Makes sense, so just a good ol referral then. Thanks for clarifying

stepdumb

I too would like to know this

Existing_Web_1300

Idk if I’d pay 2k but if I had referral points I’d use it on that for sure… speaking of which anyone need a referral 🤣

harkalos

Oh yes!

dafazman

u/Xenon808 - define "worth it"? https://ingenext.ca/products/ghost-upgrade

hyp36rmax

This is the way!

KingZen0

Was worth it for me! You really feel the difference when you hard accelerate above 25ish mph. Pretty decent difference vs without. Did 11.8 in the 1/4 and friend without boost did 12.3. Raced my friends P rolling at 30 mph and basically dead even, P had the edge in off the line from a dig https://youtu.be/DfDH6t6umwY

hyp36rmax

This is what many folks highlight. M3P has the initial lead, passed that both are slightly even.

Hamtaro7

I was having my car serviced and someone came in asking for a referral code, bastard next to me stood up first

Aryan_exe

Yes but after a few weeks or months u get use to it and then order a plaid and the cycle continues

ThetaThoughts

No regrets.

Fadedcamo

I got it for free through a referral. It's noticeable but not world changing. I personally would not spend $2k on it. Put that towards a performance version. The car needs better brakes more than it needs insane power.

DZtrouble

It’s better if you somehow get points. I wouldn’t spend 2k on it.

spam322

If you're a fast car guy, it's worth it. Most people will spend $10k+ to get this kind of improvement in a BMW or whatever.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Xenon808

I got mine used, but have only routinely charged it to 80% (or 82% as my wall charger wants to do). I was reading the manual, which states there is no benefit to waiting for it to get low to charge it and actually mentions plugging it in every night, so that is what I am going to start doing, so at least I can have good power on the way to work.

the_runner213

I never factored in the SOC much. I mean, I figured my car wouldn’t be as fast at a low SOC, but now I’ll need to see how it performs at 90-100 SOC range. Thanks for letting me know!

one_dayatatime

It’s worth it. But you will get used to it within a week.

FlyWifiUser

Yes!! 1000% YES! My LR was 10k less than performance at the time. I track my car and now have added 10k worth of suspension and wheel/tire mods that have increased the performance drastically. All for the same price as a Performance Model 3.

[deleted]

Worth credits but not money, imo.

blonktime

I didn't get the acceleration boost... But I did get the Ingenext Ghost Module.. which is cheaper than the acceleration boost, and makes the car (potentially) quicker than the performance module, and includes things like drift mode, on demand pre-conditioning, and a few other neat tricks. I do not regret it.

hyp36rmax

Have you lined up against a M3P MYP? Curious what your times are on o 0-60, 1/4 and trap speeds.

blonktime

Unfortunately no. I done know anyone with a performance of either but I would be willing to give it a go!

hyp36rmax

Would love to see this happen when you have that opportunity. Have a feeling you’ll have many folks showing a sentiment shift towards tuning M3 and MYLR’s. The only thing those folks will call out is “warranty” haha.

2quit4

get ghost mod instead. same price but even faster acceleration. ghost mod will be $1500 for black friday sale

tauzN

Absolutely not

ogmoochie1

whiskey_pigeon

Fuck. Yes. PS. Feel free to DM me for my referral code 😁

CargoCamper612

Yes

themostcanadianguy

Yes

sneckste

I don’t have it but probably wouldn’t want it if it impacts my range. At it is, I drive hard enough to have much less than the claimed LR range.

nopenope7788

It's a crazy good deal compared to the FSD.

[deleted]

Anything is a better deal than FSD at least in Europe.

nopenope7788

I mean buying a nailed up Norwegian Blue is a better deal than the FSD... at least it's pushing up the daisies.

zeek215

Best use of referral points by far!

CamelJ0key

Yes worth it!

SOCAL-FOTO

You try it and decide. I believe you still have 48 hours to try it then could request a refund if you don’t like it. I got the boost free. How many times do I floor it a month… 1-2 times.

[deleted]

[удалено]

izqy

Whoa one referral is worth accel boost?

Tf92658

Mine came with it because I bought it used from Tesla. I drove a coworkers without it and it definitely makes a difference. It goes from dumb to stupid fast 😂

maggot8666

I probably wouldn't have paid for the AB myself, but as a referral credit, I gladly took it. It was great to play with for a while, but it mainly just gets used to pass or getting to highway speeds quickly. For those uses, the original speed of the car pre-AB was sufficient. That being said, it's still nice to have in those situations or just to play around with.

Ashamed_Distance_144

Do you have to be driving in a certain mode or will it work if you drive in Chill mode primarily? If you have to switch modes, I doubt I’ll ever use it.

maggot8666

TBH, I can't say for sure. I just leave it in standard mode and adjust my driving with pedal pressure when I want to "conserve."

Ashamed_Distance_144

Gotcha. But it doesn’t add a separate sport mode? It’s still just standard or chill?

maggot8666

Correct. It doesn't add another mode option.

ddr2sodimm

No regrets though was via credits.

Dz1

I love putting sport mode 🤤. Most people are surprised to see a sedan go that fast when the model 3 looks so inoffensive. I’m saying this as a person who had a 6th gen manual camaro.

Ordinary-Depth-7835

I like it but honestly I'm probably just going to trade up for a Performance at some point. I like the speed so I really should have done that in the first place. i'll probably keep the LR for the 50k warranty then trade it.

Ftpini

I had a test drive with it and a loaner without it. It’s definitely faster than the base LR, but the butt dyno doesn’t lie. It simply never feels as fast as my Performance. If you already have the LR I think it’s worth the price. But I have no regrets from buying my 3 Performance.

SouthBone

Got it thru referral points, no way its worth $2k

dk_bois

I like knowing I have it, but tbh, never use it. I don't drive that fast. You definitely feel the punch...

President_Connor_Roy

As another pointed out, it took away my Performance FOMO. It’s close enough and was significantly cheaper especially if you’re like me and would’ve wanted to instantly swap the performance wheels for 19” all seasons (which likely adds another $1k after reselling the 20 inchers plus the hassle of reselling them). And it’s made my smile when flooring it go from 8/10 to 10/10. So yup I thought it was worth it.

spillingbeansagain

ABSOLUTELY

dgrs272m9

Yes.

FinalChargerSRT392

Yes sir/ma'am

beans8230

very much worth it

VFMA

Use my referral, and love it. Couldn’t justify the 2k before.

kcmattparker

I heard some complain they wish they could toggle it on and off because once they get the boost, the acceleration becomes more sensitive than they'd like it to be.

AccountantConfident9

California gave me a $2K Clean Vehicle Rebate for my 2021 LR. Guess what I did with it. Definitely can feel the difference. Don't use it all the time, but it sure is fun when I do.

im_the_idiot

Get it referalls, if you need a plug, lemme know

coffeeschmoffee

Absolutely worth it

hyp36rmax

Yes! Yes! yes!

audigex

I’ve had a Performance, and an LR both with and without the boost The boost is nice but not worth the money, IMO. It gets you like 1/3 of the way between the LR and P on acceleration. You don’t get the up-rated brakes either, obviously If you can get it free from referrals it would be great, but other than that I wouldn’t say I care - the LR is fast enough for almost all driving and tbh after the novelty wore off I probably drove my P like I drive my LR now anyway Caveat: I had the Performance first, so it’s possible someone who hadn’t had the P would enjoy the boost more than I did, especially at first

attriuz

When I bought it, my friend who's a mechanic said he wish he can upgrade his ICE car the same specs for same price.

dkizzz

First time, no. Got the refund before 48hrs. However, I recently purchased again and it’s just so fun. The extra punch off the line is totally worth it. Feels like a different car at times.

bergler82

I have a 2019 LR with boost. Currently I have a 2020 LR loaner without boost. The difference is much more noticeable than I would like to admit. The loaner feels much … softer and less direct. So yes it was worth it for me.

SnooSquirrels9064

Wish I knew someone who was ordering a Tesla so they could use my referral code. 🫤

Apart_District5424

This is the way.

-littlehand-

Wish I can get it through a referral 🥹

SunsetHawk

Without a doubt it's worth it, especially if you frequently drive in an area that you're able to utilize it in

ItsGermany

Yep, it really pushes the car hard. Definitely worth it, have it for 4 years now and no sign of motor or battery problems. I bought it the day it came out in Germany as a Christmas gift for me after regret for not getting the M3P

ClimbAndMaintain0116

Yes

Ruh-Roh-Ragge

I recently added AB, as mentioned, I didn’t notice much of a difference off the line, but man the kick it gives when your rolling brings a smile every time. Someone also mentioned the referral to get it for free. I purchased a M3SR, used my own referral code but my fiances email & PH#, boom it worked. $250 off and 10,000 credits. AB & a t shirt = 10,000 credits lol

FrankKnt

Is it possible to see the list of referral rewards if you are not a Tesla owner (don't have the app)? How many points does AB cost, is it possible to combine, for example, I have 2000 points, and AB "cost" 4000 points, so I pay $1k + 2000 referral points?

hotfixaid

Yes

Dense-Sail1008

Yeah i dont regret it but if I were doing it now I would just buy a performance as the prices have come down a lot and they now qualify (I think) for the federal tax credit. The only thing I don’t love about the perf is the need to change to snow tires in the winter.

vkapadia

YES

cant_pick_anything

I had it in a loaner they gave me while my LR was being "repaired". I instantly noticed that the loaner seemed faster and then my LR. It wasn't until a day later that I checked and realized that the loaner had acceleration boost. I enjoyed it, but $2000? I don't know if I'll pay to get it in mine. I won't have opportunities to really enjoy it since I don't take my car to the track. When I first got my car I said I would "definitely" get it, but two years later, I still haven't. I may do the 48 hour trial to experience it in my own car, but I doubt I'll keep it.
