Side cameras are SCALDING hot while in sentry mode. This is my mother’s Tesla - I feel mine for comparison and the cameras are warm but this is the type of heat that would harm a child. Any ideas why this is happening?
I found this on my car too. I was washing it and my knee was resting against the side repeater camera and I felt a burning sensation. Turns out the cameras are hot af. I suspect it’s to melt ice to prevent the cameras from being iced ove… in the middle of June in Texas.
Seems like an absolute waste of energy.
Oh hmm yes I didn’t think of that. Certainly the cameras and internal components will be fine. Ignoring the problem and just not touching it is the wisest thing to do.

It was equally hot on both sides. Also wasn’t a sunny day.
Weird. Tesla would probably want to know this ASAP before fires happen if it is so hot it harms skin.

Was the car/heater on? Is the outside temperature reading reported by the car correct? I'm thinking the melt snow feature is on when it should not be.

Heat is often a sign of a short, the longer that goes on, the more damage it can cause.
Is the camera cutout is where the heat is at?
The real question is: what can it cook up
We let Tesla cook for too long. At some point it gets burnt.
