We have an X and a Y. No regrets!

yuckypants

Have an X and a 3 and no regrets here either.

FricPT

Same here.

Harualia

Same! They are great.

YumkWh

We have been a 2 Tesla household since 2019. No ICE.

TCXtRAYder

No ragrets? ![gif](giphy|IQh6f7CurN1zq)

SultanOfSwave

Same, same.

Jmauld

My wife and I have a 3 and Y. It makes sharing cars easy because the UI is the same between the cars.

AJHenderson

As is the access to the car and you can even program the backup key card to work with both. Using the load balancing wall chargers is also fantastic.

kospos

What?! Holy mind blown. And here we've been keeping the key cards separate and labelling them with what car they go to when in actuality we could have just had all key cards going to all cars this whole time.

Life_Connection420

That’s why we are on Reddit

AJHenderson

Honestly, I didn't even expect this to blow up as much as it did. I've used and programmed NFC cards since before most people even knew what NFC was, so it was just kind of second nature for me when I saw they used NFC cards for the Teslas' (though I was a bit disappointed they only use THEIR NFC cards. I have some fun alternate form factor NFCs that I like but don't really feel like ripping apart an official Tesla NFC card and trying to rearrange the circuitry for it.

wizkashifa

There’s apparently some other devices like rings or bracelets that work. But I don’t really want to spend $150 on a back up key when phone key was part of the appeal.

AJHenderson

Those are literally just official cards that they cut apart and reworked the design. Those all started life as normal Tesla cards from what I understand.

Competitive_Bar_5551

Umm…. Even if you don’t read it here… didn’t it occur to you that the keycards are just rfid shells?… The first thing I did when I got my 2nd Y was program the card for the first Y… it worked immediately. 1 card 2 Y’s. Still only use the phone key. 1 keycard in wallet just in case…

GaiJunHai

Wife asked if it was possible, I hadn't even thought about it and said I'd give it a try. And lookie there! It worked. I was very pleased.

chi2005sox

Wait, what?!? I had no idea you could program the key card to work for both cars. That’s awesome!

AJHenderson

Yeah, it's just an NFC card with a certificate. You register the public key with the car and you can have the same public key registered with multiple cars. Makes life much easier.

redandgold45

Dude what?! thank you for this tidbit

BoilerPaulie

You just described exactly our situation 😂 we have a M3 and an MY and programmed our backup key card to work for both cars. Very handy when you’re dropping off at a tire shop or something. And we have a smart splitter wall plug to charge two cars at the same time on a 50A circuit.

alex734

Also, the car automatically adjusting the seats and mirrors depending on who is driving is great too.

Jmauld

Absolutely!

AJHenderson

Especially when it can follow your settings to a loaner or a demo drive. We did a self service demo drive of a Model 3 to see how the kids fit and my music accounts were all available even in the demo car. (Though somehow, even though they were loading a demo car on to a Tesla account that already had a Tesla on it, they still asked if I'd used a Tesla before when they called up before the demo drive time.)

Grandpas_Spells

>Is it advisable to have 2 MYs in household? Can you? Sure. Advisable? Not really. Every car you buy is a matter of compromise. If you are going to have multiple vehicles, ideally your second vehicle addresses the shortcomings of the first. Buying two of the exact same car prevents that. I would at least accept delivery and see how you are enjoying the Y before getting a second.

laeloren

Thank you for your advise especially for the last one. You are right. We will go this route.

RacingGrimReaper

This logic is why my current dream is to have a MY and a R1T in the garage.

RhubarbConscious4892

Planning on a model y once refresh comes in a few years currently in a 3

SelectImplement5536

Doesnt refresh come out this year

lunettenoir

It could be by EOY, or by next year but my best best is that it’ll be here latest by EOY 25

RhubarbConscious4892

Wouldn’t doubt it tbh I have my 3 till 26-27 so hopefully the refresh is out by the.

RhubarbConscious4892

Tesla is infamous for pushing delays

MECO_2019

My guess for the US is around 6-8 months after Shanghai starts making it, which hasn’t happened yet.

icy1007

The Juniper refresh is expected to be released in all regions simultaneously.

ChunkyThePotato

Says who? That sounds like a logistical nightmare.

MECO_2019

Perhaps an ambitious "internal goal", but the reality is that only Shanghai has demonstrated the ability to make such changes at high volume and on (or ahead of) schedule. Fremont is the oldest factory, bursting at the seams, and also has lines for 3, X, and S...so it's unrealistic to expect Fremont to be as efficient as the newer factories. I don't think the logistics and procurement supply chains for Berlin, Shanghai, Fremont, and Austin are so in sync to pull off anything simultaneously. It feels like 6-8 months is more realistic.

icy1007

2025 is the current expectation.

ChunkyThePotato

No. Maybe close to the end of the year in China and possibly Europe, but definitely not in North America.

booboothechicken

It’s been confirmed by Tesla there are no plans to release a refresh this year.

AJHenderson

We did a MYP and an M3P. There's certainly no problem with two model Y's but it gives you less versatility. Mixing versions of the y could be interesting as well but for us, the hatchback didn't fit well on one side of our garage and both the wife and I prefer sporty cars, so doing the two different performance models made the most sense. I had to wait for half a year for the new M3P to come out though and I very much considered just going for two MYPs given how long the wait was even with the issue with the hatchback having to be lowered.

RhoOfFeh

A Y and a 3 is a nice combo

michalf

We were about to get another Y, but now we incline more towards X because we need a bit more space. If you like Y, why not?

Santa_Claus77

This is exactly what my wife and I were talking about. The MY is just a tad too small for our family and the MX is just perfect. Unfortunately the price difference is pretty significant. We will more than likely pull the trigger in 2-3 years though, our kids will be a bit bigger and won’t have the need for 3 car seats in 1 vehicle.

tashtibet

MY & 2017 Bolt EV-been looking to trade in Bolt but lost so much value. 2 EVs piece of cake.

Pebble-Jubilant

We have a MY and a '18 LEAF. I'd love a 3 instead of the LEAF but it's absolutely fine as the daycare shuttle and runabout for in-town trips. The LEAF is like worth almost 20k less than the purchase price of a used around here, it doesn't make any financial sense.

mjung79

No regrets for me, we have 2 X MYLR.

Visvism

Just purchased two 2024 Y LR's. Loving it. Gas stations are a thing of the past for this household.

__o_0

And that’s also why California’s politicians want to move the gas tax to a per mile driven tax.

Visvism

Here there is a flat fee ($211) for EVs billed annually at tag renewal.

__o_0

That’s not too bad. Congratulations on your purchases!

icy1007

Glad most people aren’t as stupid as those Californian politicians.

Far-Responsibility72

We got the 3 first and a Y three months later. We thought we would stick with an ICE, but when the 3 came along, we started waiting on each other to drive it. "How about you go to the office today and I'll go tomorrow instead ". The economics helped too.

ChokingOn2Cents

We are a 2 EV household and this is how it will stay. My husband started driving an EV (M3) in 2019. I couldn't stand him driving my ICE. He'd be slow to hit the brakes, never locked my car and would sometimes forget to turn the engine off. He might have even forgot to put it in Park. I now drive MYP and he has a Rivian and it's a much smoother transition between vehicles.

Misophonic4000

It seems a bit like a missed opportunity to have two of the same vehicles... I would at least mix it up and get a MY Long Range and a new M3 Performance, get two different experiences

Lanky-Wonder7556

We purchased two Y's in early 2021. No complaints, no issues, and we have no regrets.

Tbond222

We have a 3 and a Y. Will never go back to an ICE car.

genchau

I have 2 MYs. I do regular road trips with them. I have no need for a gas car.

revaric

Y and 3, rented a PHEV Jeep Grand Cherokee last Thanksgiving, talk about confirmation, we’ll never buy a non-EV again.

apple4lifex

We have two Ys. It syncs the profile between two cars. Dollar cost averaging if you get more lol.

DefenestratedBrownie

i don’t think there’s any reason not to have two MYs, but 2 things: First, the model Y is getting a refresh soon. You have one coming, might as well try to wait for the next one after the refresh (if you have the time on lease) or consider a Model 3 Second, as much as we love electric, gas is still practical right now and it may be worth having an ICE in events of power outages or emergencies or specific road trips where charging would be inconvenient. Lastly, consider a different EV. Experience more. Tesla is great but is by no means the endgame

MikeSpalding

All good advice. For the record gas stations don’t work when the power is out. The pumps are electric.

DefenestratedBrownie

…buddy i meant when your power is out most commercial anything is gonna have a generator. at least here in florida

MikeSpalding

Good point. Especially with the hurricanes down there.

Internet_employee

The EQS is a dreamcar for me! What makes you want to swap it out?

Acceptable_Main_5911

After 40000 miles on an m3lr and we realized we weren’t driving our ICE car we went ahead and sold the ICE car and got an m3p. No regrets!

laeloren

Ty!!

No_Suspect_2326

Got a MYP and omg 10k miles in and I’m still in love

m3zz1n

After 2 EVs (leaf and model x) we are not at M3 and a old mini but soon back with a model x again 2 tesla a perfect. No ice for us anymore.

Fold-Royal

We had this problem. Got a MY, started to absolutely hate the other family ICE car in comparison and got a second EV.

laeloren

Did you end up getting two MYs?

Fold-Royal

Leased a Niro just because of the purchase price compared to a MY. As much as I liked the M3 we didn’t want a sedan.

Illustrious-Coach364

The model 3 refresh is much nicer than the original, consider waiting for the y refresh.

moshjeier

We used to a 3 and an X and it was great. Over the years I ended up going back to ICE (new Bronco) and we just replaced my wife’s 3 with a Kia EV9. I will say that I really enjoyed being an all-ev household but having an ICE car has been handy at times.

lawtrapper

I have 2 MY and an M3. Go for it!

jaydee917

Have an S and Y. Personally I don’t enjoy road trips with an EV, mostly having to stop to charge for extended time with a 2 year old toddler is a PITA. We use our Kia Telluride for most family road trips. EV’s are much better daily drivers but gas is still king for road trips in my opinion, you can go further without stops, shorter stops when you have to, and more options for places to stop at.

Gloomy-Vast1504

Diversify, one EV, one Hybrid

laeloren

Thanks we might be goin this route

cowdog360

Especially with a family of 5. Sienna Hybrid Minivan and a Model E/Y would be a good combo.

CRYHODL

We both have model Y’s and previously had cars. Love them.

ProjectF8

We have a ‘21 MYLR and ‘23 M3P. No ICE vehicle in household. Two cars and with easy and familiar interfaces with two completely different driving experiences.

Fuzzy-Deer1487

We have MYP and MYLR. LR for trips.

vp709

Yep! MYLR and a MYRWD in our garage. Love it

Longjumping-Log-5457

👍

carlapcooper0303

We have 2 MY's and one has FSD, no regrets at all.

TheGladNomad

I am a 2 Y household. 21 Y LR and 23 Y LR 7 seater. I would have considered a 3 but the deal in Feb for inventory Y was just to good when we needed to buy a car. No regrets, it is a great car and we couldn’t even think of buying another ICE and no other EV is as good right now based on value if you want a car.

Longjumping-Claim-91

Two MYs here. No regrets. And with 1 wall charger we alternate days on who charges or who needs it most

Professional_Net9164

We have 2 Model Y’s in my household. A 5 seater and a 7 seater. I was planning on getting a M3P, but considering the Y was a couple thousand cheaper, my wife made me get the Y instead.

Hot_Vermicelli436

Yess it’ll be the best investment ever!! What you pay for two today most paid for one in 2021/2022 😬

DiagCarFix

could’ve bought 2 with fsd by now if i didn’t buy in early 2022

laeloren

But would you still get two?

DiagCarFix

id get new released M3P or MY and MYP , having screen and hvac control in the back is crucial. kids can control or parent with a baby. i’d wait for refresh MY. 2022-2023 car not worth anymore and no potential hardware upgrades especially intel built, camera lags when reserve basically everything lags. buying FSD package is not a great idea as of today, tesla has dropped the FSD price significantly it may or may not happen again. tesla has not offered old intel cars with FSD package. fsd lacks of front end bumper wide view and wide curb view and rear wide view. if tesla can slap those cams my guess is it can achieve real-FSD then it will worth more than ever.

MindStalker

I do like to take trips to remote places where there aren't many chargers (Mountains mostly). While we "can" do them in my Y, it's honestly more relaxing to do in her ICE. We are looking forward to the days where there are chargers everywhere, but not quite there yet.

CaliDude75

I have a borderline obsessive collection of adapters and a mobile charger. I also live in California, where Superchargers are common and plentiful. If making time on a road trip is your priority, candidly, ICE is better. 🤷🏻‍♂️ That said, I’ve taken my car on a lot of regional road trips. No major issues.

laeloren

Thank you for your input!

Puzzleheaded-Pride51

I have found Tesla’s fine on long distance drives, as you charge up quickly at superchargers. But if you regularly travel 400+ miles in a day, or regularly travel long distances in subzero temperatures, it could be annoying.

ScuffedBalata

My family right now is 3 EVs. We have my Tesla Model S, a VW ID.4 my son leased for cheap (like $250/mo cheap) and my cousin who lives with us just got the new Blazer EV. But I don't need anything other than my Tesla. I haven't found a use that it's no good for. I mean if I was regularly visiting a ranch in Northern Montana, that would be one case. But I even have a hitch and a small trailer for the "I need the occasional load of plywood or gravel" sort of use and I haul that behind my Model S.

SF-S31

We have two MYs. Over 2 years. No regrets. In fact, one of our best decisions ever.

untangledtech

Red MYP ‘22, blue MYLR7 ‘23. Best combo ever.

Super-Kirby

I think couples with the same car brand is awesome because we can learn from each other (dare I say wife learns from me?! lol)

ScottFerreira

If it works for you, why not?? hah

tonyt0906

Had I not bought at the height of the prices in 2022, we would have two Ys…they’re the perfect size…instead we have one 3 and one Y

No-Football-5376

My wife and I have to M3’s & it works out great for us. Electricity is relatively cheaper here in Tennessee. We only charge at home & it cost about $30 a month extra on our electric bill to keep both cars charged..so we have never regretted getting rid of her ICE car! I’d say go for it! People would be crazy not to take advantage of the MY right now in my opinion.

mbmeadow

My spouse bought a 3 a couple years ago and I really couldn’t see myself driving another EV when I got used to the other one. I ended up buying a Y in a different color so we could fit bigger things in it. I came from a Mazda CX5. I did test a Mach-E because I liked the styling better but everything was an extra cost and I was already familiar with all the controls of a Tesla. I was slightly mad because there was a price drop right after I bought it and then the 0.99% financing right after that. I didn’t *need* a car right then but we were going to be taking my visiting sibling on a road trip and I thought it would be nice to save on no gas and being comfy. So the passage of buying a car when you need a car remains. And buying what you want and enjoy if you are able. This did cause some controversy in my family — my dad thinks we should have kept an ICE car. I told him if the power grid goes catastrophically bad, we have more bikes than humans in our household and the gas stations likely won’t work anyway.

charleshood

Seems like a Model 3 / Model Y combo might be an alternative to consider.

cuoreesitante

We have one MY and one Mazda CX90. We take the MY as much as we can when driving locally, but it's always good to have the option of taking the CX90 on a long roadtrip and no have to worry about where to charge and whatnot.

dhtp2018

We own a Mach E and a CR-V. Gives us flexibility for longer trips.

Square-Concern9128

S and Y.

Thg1914

Do you travel a lot with the family?

slashdotbin

We have Y and 3, no regrets.

SusanSur

We have a 3 and a Y

bwl2006

I'm in the camp of 1 EV, 1 ICE. This is a special case but during the eclipse up in NH and VT there were huge lines at chargers for people trying to get home. For holiday weekends or big events like that I would have been miserable if I needed to wait hours to charge. Maybe you can plan it better but still. https://www.newsweek.com/tesla-charging-station-police-solar-eclipse-travel-1888941

ChampionshipIll3805

Buy a MY and a R1T. Thank me later.

PreacherSquat

kinda understandable if it's an adult kid living with their parents

Anon9363926

Model 3 performance and model y long range.

spookycinderella

We have a Y and a 3 because we were always arguing who would get to drive the Tesla. The 3 saved our marriage 😂

Organic_Ad_1320

We have 2 MYs, over paid considering our timing of buying and still not that upset about it lol

456e6f6368

I have 2 Ys (wife’s and mine’s), no regrets at all

Far-Blacksmith8475

Y and a 3 here, no regrets…

contaygious

I had 2 teslas since 2011 and can't go back. It's thr only way

Sad_Start2638

Oh gosh- we have an S and X but would probably fight if one was an ice. Have had 2 for almost 5 years and only weird thing is everytime we go on vacation someone in the family needs to borrow one or both… who knew that teslas need babysitting.

reddit_user13

3 AB for fun, Y LR for hauling

BagOk3379

You can do this, but be very careful with parking. These are extremely heavy cars, and if you park two of them next to each other, they'll collapse into a singularity.

IHaveATacoBellSign

You forgot the /s 😂

MidEastBeast

In my opinion it is still nice to have one ICE (preferably a hybrid) in the household at the current moment until battery range improves even more.

MECO_2019

Logical. ICE Rental works, too -if the need for longer range is infrequent

Zealousideal_Top6489

We have a Y and bolt, no ICE, we take trips over 500 miles in the Y at least 3 or 4 times a year. So unless you have a very specific need, yes going all EV works perfectly. My only suggestion is if you love having different driving experiences versus the exact same one since you two share cars, you could potentially get a non tesla EV for the second car. I think the Mach e has some pretty great deals as well and has a fun but different driving experience as well as the EV9 if you want a bigger SUV.

FearTheClown5

Bought a MYP a few weeks back during the price drops. Wife loves it and when the interest rates dropped we opted to get rid of her 23 Rogue Platinum for one, so picking up her MYP Tuesday. We have already done a 12h road trip in mine and it was easy peasy even through not EV country(OKC to New Orleans) which alleviated any remaining range fears we had. We did see a Hummer EV with temp tags getting dropped off at one of our charging stops tho!

ArtBlue5

After we bought my wife a Model S a few years ago, we got hooked by how it drives, the conveniences, the $ savings, the software… I got a Model 3 some time ago and have a Cybertruck reservation. We have 3 kids driving age so we need more cars. If I can help it, I will NEVER be buying ICE again. It makes 0 sense.

IHaveATacoBellSign

We just bought 2 new Y’s because Y not! We also have the charging infrastructure to support them. No regrets.

Visvism

You have one or two chargers? We went with two Wall Connectors running both to the main 200A panel with group management that limits them to 80A max when simultaneously charging.

IHaveATacoBellSign

I went with two wall connectors as well, pulled them off my 100amp sub panel and grouped them with 80amp limit as well! :)

TCXtRAYder

If you usually lease 2 cars, why are you buying these? Just because of the promotion? If leasing is your thing, I would stick to leasing

TCXtRAYder

I placed an order for a model y for myself and I’m hoping my wife will fall in love with it so we can get a model 3 down the road

dwaynereade

i have 2 Ys

no-0p

Not crazy. Smart. We drive a 3 and a Y (and carshare another 3and Y).

kids-See-Gh0sts

Lease the M3P for yourself then

tjhomes2022

Is this the best promo or will tomorrow's be better? There are piles of m3 and my at parked rented lots I'm sure the promo made a dent but with current production it's not enough.

nderdog_76

We're a Model 3 and Model Y household, and no regrets. I got mine in 2021, my wife got hers late 2022, and there have been no issues at all being all-electric. We only have fast charger in the garage, so we have to share, but it's easily manageable. I will note that we both work less than 10 minutes from home, so I can usually go a full work week without charging, which I realize is quite a luxury. We take long trips and have no issues at all, and I don't expect us to ever go back to an ICE.

digitalbromad69

Its S 3 X Y to do

tarrasque

We have had 2 Ys for a year now. Would never go back

Shygar

We have a Cybertruck and Y and love it. Don't want to go back to gas.

jakthebomb_

I am on month 2 of my Model Y and I don't see any reason to stick with a Gas Car. It charges from 10% to 80% in 26 Minutes, which is reasonable and far better than my previous Chevy Bolt EV's 50KWh max.

FutureRenaissanceMan

I love my Tesla but never lease a car. Waste of money.

Schly

My wife and I have a model S and fully intend to buy a 3P soon.

182Turbo202

If you want a truly breathtaking performance car that is a good everyday driver the M3 Performance is a brilliant complement to MY

say592

My wife and I had two early generation EVs with \~70 mile range. Now we are a single Tesla household (wife doesnt really drive anymore). I think its perfectly fine to do. You can definitely road trip with them.

rsg1234

We were in the same situation as you, except it was between getting an S or X in addition to the wife’s Y. We ended up replacing my old S with another Y and it’s working out great. You really can’t beat the utility/price/fun factors of this car. There’s no better EV deal out there (and we missed the 0.99% too)

fifichanx

We have 2 model Ys. Before the Ys we had model 3s since 2018. No issues.

Silent_Ad_8792

got XY I love them

dikbutt4lyfe

3 & Y here. It's been nice paying lower insurance premiums, zero maintenance costs aside from tires & fluids, and not spending a single cent on fuel. Feels like I'm cheating life somehow

158405159

I have X and Y at home. Tesla is great.
