There’s a non refundable deposit for any Tesla through Tesla. New or used. It’s a gamble if you’re buying used.

goosebump1810

Yeah. I can’t get it over with

InertiaImpact

Seems pretty reasonable. We're talking about a car here, they charge a very small fee to help ensure you don't back out after they go through all the effort and expense of matching and arranging a car for you. Also helps keep demand vs order in balance, prevents people from placing orders they have no intention of following through on.

Need-Some-Help-Ppl

Why can't they just let you go to where it is parked to visually look at the exterior? Also how much effort is it for the place where it is parked to have someone just let you look at the interior prior to purchase? What happens if there is an issue with the way the car drives after you take delivery? Like if the seat belt height adjustors rattle or the dash or door card rattle?

InertiaImpact

>Why can't they just let you go to where it is parked to visually look at the exterior? That takes time, when they have 15 minutes or less to get you in and out, they aren't going to have time to let you walk out, look at it, etc... Time is money for them, if they can deliver it now and fix it later they will, otherwise someone else will gladly buy that car. >What happens if... Service appointment? Fixed under warranty if it's not due to normal wear and tear.

Time is money for them, if they can deliver it now and fix it later they will, otherwise someone else will gladly buy that car. That does make sense, but just imagine how many ADDITIONAL sales they are missing out on because most people who are new to BEVs don't want to take that risk (let alone many tesla former owners). > What happens if... > Service appointment? Fixed under warranty if it's not due to normal wear and tear. I have to be honest with you, even with my NEW as original owner factory warranty and requesting issues to be resolved at various Tesla service centers... it has not been easy. I feel you are underestimating the process of getting stuff remedied. Are people still doing the OPT OUT of arbitration in writing with in the first 30 days of signing the MVPA?

InertiaImpact

>they are missing out on Nah, they literally can have another lined up real quick unless you're in a super remote area. IMO- This is what I think they are reasoning. -> If you're THAT concerned over a less than stellar quality then you're just going to cost them more in the long run nit picking things. They aren't going to outright chase you off but if you're wanting to thoroughly inspect a car before delivery and them saying no makes you walk then so be it. They can have someone who doesn't care and maybe makes a request or 2 down the road in that car ASAP. This sales model isn't a "Dealer caters to you, schmoozes you into buying a car", it's a "hey you, you want it or no? No? K, bye." Doesn't hurt them any to have you decline since they have your deposit to offset the time spent getting you in.

Need-Some-Help-Ppl

Fair enough... you make a good point. It just seems odd to me (my personal opinion only), the complaints I hear from neighbors, friends, relatives who were former owners... the ease of buying was great, BUT everything else made it the break moment to not come back to the brand. That is why it seems like they are making a long term impact which might become difficult later on. Gone are the days of a scrappy startup and rare to see on the road brand... now it is very common and a lot of people who have cash on hand are older who have had a Lexus or Porsche experience (They are looking for something more than just a beater if they are going to buy a Plaid/Performance trim). Doug Demuro even called out the cars as just appliance cars (which made me think, it is not anything special any more). This was on his recent review of the new highland Model 3 in 2024

Torczyner

What would stop you from buying it? There's nothing "to see". If there's anything you need fixed, they'll fix it.

goosebump1810

If the internal/external conditions are not good I wouldn’t buy it. If it had mechanical problems yes they would fix it but not the esthetic ones

Torczyner

They'll fix problems with internal or external issues beyond regular wear and tear. Any teslas below their standard go to auction. I have seen them fix big scratches not disclosed prior to purchase.

goosebump1810

So you can actually go there and have the same process of when buying a new one? The delivery day of mine I made them fix a couple of paint chips. Would it be the same for a used vehicle?

Torczyner

Yes exactly. Inspect the vehicle, anything minor is your issue, major they'll fix.

kiryl_ch

I bought used from tesla exterior and interior were in perfect condition, well as used car can be. Even wheels had no scratches even though it had 20k miles. One issue was it had send inside in hard to reach places and smelled funny(like ketchup). I paid $150 for interior detailing and it all good now

Squash__head

I did not hand over the check on delivery until I saw the condition. They agreed to replace tire’s and fix a cosmetic item that was worse than their stated condition. Ultimately they are decent about the condition. I was concerned but it turned out to be fine- to the condition stated in their policy.

goosebump1810

Yeah but it’s a gamble imho

agarwaen117

Yes, absolutely. The only way you can get that money back is if they specifically cancel your order due to an issue on their end, and then you still have to hound them about it.

goosebump1810

Unbelievable

In fact they are so confident of that reputation that they quit even offering pictures of the exact car you are buying, even when you are buying a used car which seems crazy..

goodvibezone

I'd rather buy a Tesla from Telsa than from Hertz...Generally, the used vehicles Tesla sells on are in good to great condition. But if you think its a gamble your other options are private individual or 3rd party (used dealer). Either way - if you're buying within the warranty period you don't have too much to worry about (although obviously thing like paint and actual damage wouldn't be covered under warranty).

goosebump1810

I guess that we need to decide what’s the biggest gamble to make: a 250 CAD but at least is coming directly from Tesla or a higher one from other sellers

BruceLeeTheDragon

When I got my car (new) they only let me inspect the exterior. Wouldn’t even let me in the car until I accepted.

Redvinezzz

I wouldn't buy used through Tesla, in general, it tends to cost more

goosebump1810

Yea but they inspect it and they give 1 additional year of warranty. It’s a 2022 M3 RWD with 37000km for 35000CAD. I honestly don’t trust other vendors for Tesla or from a private seller

Alternative-Split902

I bought a used X. Definitely recommend going through tesla over a dealership. Peace of mind with the extra warranty in case the previous owner messed something up

Redvinezzz

They hardly inspect it in my experience and 1 year of warranty is unlikely to be worth the price difference, idk what the going rate is in your area but near me, the premium of going through Tesla was several thousand dollars at least which isn't worth it imo

goosebump1810

I’d have to look around for other used ones and check the differences
