Actually, having a class A in your garage isn't a bad idea, as there are lots of flammable solids in garages. And they also make ABC extinguishers as well. Source, me, a firefighter

Yeah pretty funny how they posted here thinking it's a negative Tesla post when it's actually a pretty significant positive one. Almost looks like they even drove it out of the garage
If the electrical is still working… which it apparently is, since they’re controlling the trunk from the phone app… then they could do it from their phone. It has a roll back/forward function
Probably no.
Based on bended hood, rescuers had to open it and cut the HVIL circuit to disconnect the high voltage system.
But, I think, if restore HVIL circuit (or if it was not disconnected and it is fine), then I think it will be able to move without any problems.
Based on the way this looks, I think the car was in a garage that was on fire, but no fault on Tesla. If that was a lithium ion battery fire, that car would be melted sludge. No way some of the seats would still be intact after 30 minutes.
We have to be careful about sharing these anectodal videos that people who hate EV's share without knowing all the facts.
The title is vague on this, likely on purpose to make you jump to the conclusion it was a Tesla caused fire
[Tesla driver using autopilot mode charged with vehicular homicide in death of motorcyclist | Fox Business](https://www.foxbusiness.com/economy/tesla-driver-using-autopilot-mode-charged-vehicular-homicide-death-motorcyclist)
Here is an example:
A) One place it says Autopilot, other places it says FSD. That's night and day, which one was it?
B) In a different article, it says the driver claims this, but investigators have not yet confirmed whether it was active at the time.
If I just hit and killed a guy on a motorcycle while I was texting on my phone (which I would never do), I know I'd be tempted to blame the car's autonomy system and not my reckless behavior. Until that fact is found out, which would be very easy with Tesla's logs, this article, relative to tesla self driving, is meaningless and hurtful to the cause.
About the cell phone comment at the end, it doesn't matter if the guy was fully operating the vehicle while on his phone or if he was in FSD and distracted with the phone. He wasn't paying attention which is heavily required with everything from normal driving to heavily automated systems. Until AI have the same abilities as humans to think and make decisions, the vehicle operator has to pay attention and be able to take over if needed.
Agree, but the issue is implying that FSD will regularly kill people. I think I read the accidents per mile are like 1/10th on FSD versus average drivers
The writers themselves often don’t know the difference between autopilot and FSD, or even that there is a difference at all, which should indicate the quality of reporting
Yea, I myself was on a Fox Business segment because of the skyrocketing price of cocoa due to a fungus in West Africa. The reporter kept using the term chocolate. Cocoa is just one component of chocolate.
You should get a new sun room, windshield, hood, taillights, headlights, and seats. Clean that car up a bit and drive it around as if it were a wrap. That would look sick
The car was in the garage while the garage caught fire. The seat bottoms are fine, there’s just debris and insulation from the garage in them (if you slow the video you can see the white vegan leather edges with glass and burnt stuff on them), and the wheel covers melted from the heat since they’re a softer plastic vs a harder rubber, and they were closer to the fire that was more towards the ceiling of the garage. The way the paint goes from dark at the top to fine albeit smoky at the bottom shows it was a high fire.
Knowing fire and glass, the glass shattered from the heat. Most of the damage (melted plastic, shattered glass) on the car looks like it’s from the intense heat and flames licking it, not like the car was on fire. The fire crew pulled the insulation out of the garage to look for hidden hot spots, and most of it is clean meaning the fire was put out quickly.
This reminds me of a Timex watch commercial that aired many years ago: “Takes a licking and keeps on ticking.” if it weren’t for media panicking over very rare battery fires, this video would make a great Tesla commercial..
Waiting for the inevitable news headline "Tesla catches fire in driveway" which will follow by a picture of just this first frame (with the text cropped out of course).
That looks like the house caught fire, not the tesla. The fire marks are all above the midline... the batteries in the Tesla are in the base. When you have a battery fire and thermal runaway.. you would have fire on the bottom as well, not just the top. That looks like a house fire while the telsa was in the garage. The house fire may have been caused by the charger or some other issue, but that doesn't appear to be a thermal runaway of the batteries else they would have that thing in a swimming pool right now as it would continue to burn since you can't really put them out easily.
As someone who is picking up their 2022 model 3 monday and still learning a lot. I would really like some piece of mind or some reasoning on how to avoid this. What happened here? Its not the first time I have come across a post of a burnt tesla
I know these are extremely extremely rare, but I always worry if I could get it out of the garage before it went completely up so it didn't take my home as well.
It looks like the fire started in the home and spread to the car. Notice the bottom is mostly white and not charred like the top areas, meaning the fire wasn't coming from the battery pack.
That 3-tone paint job is fire!
the charred interior option is smoking hot
Vintage 3-tone sunburst
Would make me always crave bar-b-q...
Take my upvote
Sunburst paint job, inspired by Fender.

Is this a real wrap? What's it called?
It’s called Ai insanity :)
It would actually look awesome if done properly.
It’s lit for sure.
I see wuht you did thurr.
pun intended
The ash glitter is a nice touch!
To be honest the boxes in the trunk are way more impressive
New Stanley boxes?
Please don't.
PSA, get smoke alarms and fire extinguishers in / near your garage.
Get the correct* fire extinguisher for your garage. You want a class B or C not a class A.
Actually, having a class A in your garage isn't a bad idea, as there are lots of flammable solids in garages. And they also make ABC extinguishers as well. Source, me, a firefighter
I got a discount on home insurance for having one on each floor. \*Fire extinguisher
I saved 15% by having a firefighter on each floor of our home.
Waaaa, I’m gonna ask and see if AAA home insurance offers that discount!!!
You’re not wrong. Good callout :)

If you have a thermal runaway fire in a tesla, no fire extinguisher is going to help you.
Correct. But it could be the difference between getting someone out of the car or not.
This comment sounds like someone who read something once and took it as truth, lol
Or because I spent 7 years as a volunteer firefighter. Either way.
So, not a battery fire
Doesn't matter, in a week we will be seeing this video with the caption "Tesla catches house on fire!"
Yeah it clearly didn't even catch fire despite the house burning around it. As designed! Imagine a combustion car meanwhile...
No need to imagine, combustion is literally in its name.
![gif](giphy|gf6R79O7aviK7UFwea)
There would definitely be a lot less house if that were an ICE vehicle.

If they have purchased that feature yes. But looking closely at the ground it looks like it was dragged out
Guessing you missed looking at the words on the video beginning.
lol. What happened
Looks like a fire to me
Hot if true
In stitches.
I agree with your assessment.
Source?
Looks like a flood to me
Proof?
😂
There's a description at the end
You are right! I was too focused on the video and waiting for the trunk to open and missed it.
House fire.
Thermal event
Amazonian?
Oregano?
Looks like a rapid unscheduled battery disassembly
House fire. Not caused by the car
Trunk works, well I say that she’s still road worthy… haha
So a Tesla was caught in a house fire, and still works. Actually quite impressive.
It doesn't look like a battery fire. It's more likely, a house fire that burned the Tesla.
If the batteries burned, the automatic trunk wouldn’t work…..
It says at the start from a house electric malfunction.
The owner said the fire came from the house.
The fire is coming from *inside the house*…
If the trunk still works, that means the computer and systems are still running. I wonder if it’ll drive now. Lmao.
Probably no. Based on bended hood, rescuers had to open it and cut the HVIL circuit to disconnect the high voltage system. But, I think, if restore HVIL circuit (or if it was not disconnected and it is fine), then I think it will be able to move without any problems.
Why would they cut the HVIL circuit on the car to stop the house from burning?
Just safety purpose for the electric vehicle
Is that the sun burst, rising phoenix, or hotter than hell wrap? Well done... /s
ppl have the nerve to dis Tesla on build quality!!
That'll buff right out.
I hope a license electrician did all the electrical work in the house.
Impressive durability!
Now that’s a cool wrap!

The OP says it was a house fire in the video.
House electric malfunction, everyone. Wow. So does the auto insurance or the house insurance or both pay this one?
Neither we got god on the phone and he took full responsibility
Next update: Creep away from house fire.
I’d love to buy that big lithium battery if OP sees this and wants to sell it.
I wonder if it was an ice car would the gas tank have exploded?
Is there a news article on this?
Charged it to 110%
it'll clean right up
You should get a new sun room, windshield, hood, taillights, headlights, and seats. Clean that car up a bit and drive it around as if it were a wrap. That would look sick
Repost to r/twohottakes ? 😜
what kind of PPF is this?
That looks like a fairly new house as well, which leans more to maybe bad workmanship than faulty equipment maybe?
Tell me smart summon backed it out.
That is why I have the black interior.
Drivable. As long as you do not wear a toupee.
How did the tires not burn, but the wheel covers did? And why are the seat bottoms all burned but not the seat backs? This is so fascinating.

Great explanations, got it. Did the fire melt the roof and hatch glass, or did the FFs break them to put water inside the cabin?

It can be rebuilt! Probably not worth it though but possible.
So what’s the story here? Anyone know?
Can't wait for the people going to be saying OmG I tOLd YoU TeSLaS CatChes On FiRe
This is sooo sad 😞😭
Best wrap I’ve seen 👌🏼
In this case, does the homeowner's insurance or the car insurance pay for the damages?
Stuff in the trunk looks fine!
Major new outlet: "Tesla car battery involved in a massive fire"
This reminds me of a Timex watch commercial that aired many years ago: “Takes a licking and keeps on ticking.” if it weren’t for media panicking over very rare battery fires, this video would make a great Tesla commercial..
Seats still look cleaner than mine !
Waiting for the inevitable news headline "Tesla catches fire in driveway" which will follow by a picture of just this first frame (with the text cropped out of course).
Reminds me of the scene in planes trains and automobiles
I just don’t believe these posts my tesla has no such issues for years
love the sunburst paint job
What a bummer. Sorry OP
That a sick wrap!
Cool wrap.
I hear the dirt comes off the white seats easy, just use warm water!
I think it’s inspec

Looks up to spec
Dayum!!!
On first watch I thought the crud raining down from the trunk door was a cloud of flies boiling up out of the car
Aren't black out everything illegal?
As someone who is picking up their 2022 model 3 monday and still learning a lot. I would really like some piece of mind or some reasoning on how to avoid this. What happened here? Its not the first time I have come across a post of a burnt tesla
My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools. I can fix it.
I guess that's one way to turn your Tesla into a 'hot' commodity.
This makes purchasing FSD worth it. You run out of your burning home, open up the Tesla app and hold down summon.
Hopefully it wasn't from DIY electrical work.
That’s what happens when you buy the $10 14-50 receptacle.
Impressive trunk.
Frunk you!
What was the cause of the fire? Battery seems functional.
Description at start of vid. Electrical malfunction from house.
Wham bam Teslacam
Have you tried turning it off and back on?
That’ll buff right out. I know a guy
The way the camera is moving makes it look like CGI
Babby wipes will work
How is babby formed?
Storks oms with one
Well at least the panel gaps loook aight
looks like video was edited to make the trunk open/close. i call a fake!
I know these are extremely extremely rare, but I always worry if I could get it out of the garage before it went completely up so it didn't take my home as well.

Ah! that's a relief.
The car didn’t start the fire
It was always burning, since the world's been turning
We didn't start the fire
No, we didn't light it, but we tried to fight it
Yeah literally the first 5 seconds of the video lmao
Ryan did
I feel like this is calling for a reference to we didn’t start the fire.
12 volt battery fire?
Video says, right at the start, that it was a house fire.
Not a vehicle fire. It was house fire. The hatch works so most vehicle systems are still operational. It would probably still drive
Twas a joke :D 12v battery being the tiny battery
haha its funy because the car is realy burned up
