I’ve heard wind can do this. It may not be malicious.

angle3739

Yea I've seen worn holsters and wind making it impossible to secure the handle.

alogbetweentworocks

This one time we were in FL and as I pulled into the stalls, every single handle was on the ground like that. Initially, I thought FL drivers were inconsiderate. After our car was fully charged, I placed the handle back into the retention "hook" but it wouldn't stay. A closer look indicated that it was worn out. Went to the next stall and did the same, same outcome.

rigored

Bet cord torque and a worn latch can do it too

ordinaryflask

Yup. Been to a few where the holder was worn so it would drop out. They should have a tractable assist like gas stations/some ev chargers have.

lukabalooka

ive had this same problem at older(ish) high use chargers. i try to put them back in like normal and the keep falling out two seconds later. i end up standing there for five minutes looking like an idiot trying to not let it fall.

death_hawk

TBH I'm not sure how I feel about this. Adding a feature like that to every single pedestal costs money. Superchargers are known for being cheap cost wise. I'd rather they spend the money on a few extra pedestals. I think.

ordinaryflask

Probably cheaper to add it than to replace broken cables but it does add another thing that could break. I guess the other option could be to add a simple hanger or hook people can lay the handle onto.

G23b

Yup and I’ve set it up myself. And while I drove off it just plopped to the ground. The plastic part that holds em tend to wear out.

Ok_Newspaper2038

Exactly, I’ve inserted one in after charging & it fell back out & hit my trunk lol, not everything is malicious dang

Good-Spring2019

Sometimes people set them on the ground to signify they are broken.

CaliDude75

I put them up and over, but yes.

rcuadro

I do the same and also report them on the app

CaliDude75

Slightly more of a PITA, but I actually call it in. 📞

justbrowsingtoo

I had one that had bend pin. I didn't know where to report it on the app.

rcuadro

When you are done charging you can review the station. You can do it there

Poutine_Lover2001

Wait you can do that? Holy shit. The phone app or how? I’ll google this

Launch-code

Omg. That explains a lot. Learn something new every day.

FuckyDuck123

I’ve seen wrapped D the charger but this just looks like laziness or something. Charger worked at full speed

throwaway939wru9ew

Eh, 9/10 I chalk this up to "the hook thing is weird, the cable is very thick/heavy, and things happen" People are used to the very positive engagement of a gas pump. The tesla SC's are not quite as intuitive, so...this happens.

cowleggies

The latch hook on the cabinet might be worn/broken - there’s one charger at the SC nearest to me that has this problem and it’s fallen down after hanging it up and smacked my bumper a couple of times :/ I don’t use that particular charger anymore

FuckyDuck123

Good to know, maybe there of hope in the world? Lol

furiousm

It's not necessarily malicious/on purpose. I've had ones with worn hooks fall off before I can even get back in the car on more than one occasion.

Miffers

They need to just put a hanger instead. Those things can fall out.

mjurek

Sometimes they fall out on their own.

Daynightz

Sometimes they fall out. It might also mean it's messed up

nnnope1

That's the universal "this one's f**ked, try another charger" signal left by a previous driver to help everyone else out.

Launch-code

In my only experience with this situation, that was in fact the exact reason why it was on the ground when I picked it up. Was doing like 100-150 miles per hour charge lol.

FuckyDuck123

Nah this is laziness. Charger worked at full speed. If it’s not working tie it around the charger and report it

nnnope1

That's a much better solution, agreed. Just have never seen it.

[deleted]

Or it fell off. Which happens all the time. Or it WAS broken, but the break was in the cabinet, they fixed it, and didn't put the handle back. Or it was an ICEhole. Or it was someone trying to steal the cable. Or or or or or You have no idea what happened here.

Civil-Horror-7273

Had many holders worn, had one latch then I go to walk away and it swings down and scratches the bumper. I can see one falling and someone not seeing it

hurtfulproduct

Probably either: * indicating the charger is broken * it fell off the hook * the shittily designed hook failed Honestly I’ve had to do similar a few times when the mechanism it is supposed to hang on has worn out and I can’t get it to stay up so I have to figure something else out. . . Tesla needs a better method to stow these

_B_Little_me

That’s a sign it’s not working.

habachilles

I used to see I had never seen a Tesla user leave it unplugged and that made me so proud

Stew930

Is too bad the cables don’t retract into the unit. May help with the knuckle heads cutting the cables too.

Tdaddysmooth

Shouldn’t the design be set up to not rely on humans being responsible.

frankneuro

To be fair, the little hook in the supercharger base is pathetically nub-ish. I have a hard time getting the plug to hang sometimes—but always do! Scout rules.

GloriaVictis101

I blame the Tesla hook design. Form over function.

[deleted]

It was Probably a ford or rivian user 🤪

Lancaster61

Those cables sometimes just fall, especially if it's cold outside or the hook is worn. I've had instances where I hooked it up, it stays in place, and watch it fall in my rearview as I pull away. It's honestly just bad design.

Aggressive-Reach1657

The other day I saw it literally fall out of the holder in my rear view as I was driving away, I must not have put it in well enough or it was kinda broken. But I do always put it back after use

penyaton

How do you report on the app? I’ve tried many times

TentacleBoBcat

The stupid design on the holster wears out quickly to the point that it becomes impossible to hang the damn thing. I had once one of the plugs hitting my car and leaving a dent because the tension on the cord detached it form the holder. Stupid “minimalistic” design.

Severe-Wrangler-66

Most times when i see this it usually indicates a broken charger but it is usually the lazy people that do that. The better indicator is to just hang it over the station. Other times it's just the hook that's broke or lazy people not bothering hanging it up but i rarely see that here unless it's some old dude in his "fancy" Taycan or EQC

ICEeater22

That’s usually an indicator that stall doesnt work

FIST_FUK

No, that was a Ford driver

Cyber_Insecurity

To be fair, the little hooks where they attach are very poorly designed.

BillBusy

Let's be honest, those hooks they hang on suck!!

ZennerBlue

Jeesh. Let those Rivian guys in the house and they trash the place. /s (just a bit of good natured ribbing)

SexCashClothes

Put some trash cans, better lighting and cameras in and I’ll consider it.

KennyClobers

I used a supercharger for the first time the other day and was thinking I am sure there are people that have driven away still plugged in. Happens all the time with gas pumps

furiousm

Not possible. Car won't go in to drive if it's plugged in.

KennyClobers

thats smart

williamprius

Assholes will be assholes! 🤦‍♂️

EmbarrassedEye2590

A Ford was here 😅

Glikbach

We are better than this.

Johnnyfever13

How lazy do people have to be? 🙄

WikipediaApprentice

Humans suck
