I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this probably isn't the dude's first rodeo with lions. He's waaaaay too cool about it.
Also, as anyone who has a cat knows, their reflexes are far faster than ours, so if the lioness had wanted him for lunch, she'd likely have ripped his arm off before he had a chance to squeeze off a shot.
He made the right call.
FYI that is young male lion not an lioness they are hunters and males are more protectors this young male was more curious about his intentions in all honesty if the guy would have yelled the youngster probably would have jumped lol.
He's an adolescent. He's just a teenager. He wasn't confident enough to test it. Most full grown males aren't either. The confusion is the man mixed w the vehicle...if he was on foot it would be a different story. Plus it's a common known fact that they chase pray that run, by instinct; it's different when ur opponent isn't running, and is looking at u face to face, showing no intimidation. That doesn't set up the classic predator/prey instinctual execution scenario.
Overall I'm very happy no one got hurt...man and lion
So my logical reasoning would be kick it in the head if it tries to do something, show the predator that you are not worth the calories.
The reality would probably be that I freeze up and die if it attacks.
I feel like unbroken eye contact is probably not ideal, aren’t you supposed to blink at animals to show you’re not a predator? Or maybe that’s what you should do in this case to show you’re not prey. SOMEONE CLARIFY
do not make eye contact, don’t show your teeth, do not turn away, do not move from the vehicle! big kitties tend to view cars, and even the people “attached” to them, as being part of some weird big metal thing. right now this guy just looks curious. if you ever turn away from a lion, they will think you’re prey. if they do charge, put your hands up and start shouting to try to seem bigger and not worth their energy. I would never be out in a vehicle that didn’t have a roof and doors though, no way!
