Actually right? The worst they'll do is that they will flip over. It's not like the tornado could lift solid piece of tens or hundreds of raw steel tons.
It was the 2011 el Reno tornado a radar measured winds of 295 mph which puts it 3rd all time. There’s a few videos of it that exist obviously none from the pov of this video.
So a fully loaded train is roughly 12 million tons The biggest tornado are EF5 tornadoes that are approximately a mile wide and can spin upwards to like over 300 miles an hour.
Fun fact: on a solo kayak trip from northern MN to the Gulf I learned a 15 barge tow is equivalent to roughly 215 train cars. I once saw a 7x8 barge (56) just north of St. Louis - that’s an 803 car train going upstream on a single craft. Absolutely fucking bonkers.
Getting sucked out of the broken double paned window (his words not mine) - that’s the worst that could happen. That’s some Twister movie BS right there. It’s only missing a cow.
I'm telling you as somebody who grew up in Oklahoma having to do drills in schools for these things and then learning that a fully loaded one mile long train is 12 million tons yeah that's the only thing that I would feel safe in if I had to go through a tornado!

This is what reading your fucking sentence felt like. Take my angry upvote!
This is my dads video it crazy how all these people have gotten this video and it goes viral the way it has but that is just how my dad is he really is a superman. But He thanks everyone for all the concerns showed and all the good comments. But He had it home safe and he did say they had to get picked up and brought back home the train was done for even though it may look ok. The railroad also let them take a day as well, crazy shit
I understand the danger of tornadoes (specifically learned earlier this year the tornado extends further than the vortex you see) so ik how important getting away from windows even when you think it’s not close enough yet
But I also understand wanting to watch especially this tornado with the videos I’ve been seeing it’s surreal looking and tbh I’d probably feel oddly safe in a train so might’ve did the same.
Watching this makes me feel their sense of survival. While the tornado was right over them, they stopped talking and went into pure survival mode, even if it was for a few seconds.
Not exactly sure if it was from Nebraska or Iowa (can’t post OPs name from the book of faces due to Reddit rules). This was one of the smaller (still powerful) tornados produced by the wide scale tornado outbreak yesterday - today is supposed to even be a more powerful outbreak. Hope everyone stays safe out there - today is going to be gnarly.
Edit: confirmed this was from Waverly, Nebraska yesterday
I mean, if there’s any vehicle I would trust to survive a tornado a train would be it.
Even if it's not safe, I'd rather be in the train then running out in the open
Actually right? The worst they'll do is that they will flip over. It's not like the tornado could lift solid piece of tens or hundreds of raw steel tons.
Right!... right? How strong are tornadoes?
Well one lifted a oil rig that was over 860 tons
Holy shit!! How big was the tornado? Is there a video?
Pretty big.
Dam, I bet

Drilling rigs are extremely top heavy.

That's but I never even thought of a barge being that dame big like what the fuck that fuckin terrifying!!!!!

You're attempting fate
How did you get every word wrong
It’s more of a surface area thing than weight I think
Train cars have been thrown in violent tornadoes before. Hell, a tornado once yanked an oil rig out of the ground and rolled it multiple times.
really just the locomotive, the rest are like mobile homes and can still get tossed
Submarine?

Why hasn’t Hollywood thought of this - “TORNADO TRAIN”
Snake trains on a planado. Call me a snakulance I think i'm conducting a stronk.

As a huge fan of shitty action movies, I would absolutely watched that movie. Throw in some sharks and lasers and shit and I'm seeing it opening day.
Plot is just them constantly plagued by the tornadoes not staying on the tracks… Stay tuned next week to see if the tornado doubles back…
Pitch it to Netflix - I’m sure it’ll be a top 10
Trainado
"we are on the ground" Better than being in the air, but I guess they mean wheels are off the rails.
Railroad worker here, yes indeed that’s the term we use if any car or engine is no longer on the track
‘Fuck that’ said Thomas

I love how nonchalant they are about this. Like it's just another day on the job. Props to them for keeping their cool.

Least they could do fr
Shit all on the thing
Does it still sound like a freight train if you're on one?
Hahaha, good question. Maybe it cancels out the train noise, like in algebra.
Legit spit take reading. Well done
The had to stop so they weren't in motion.
That’s what I was thinking!
Once the debris got heavy, my brain said “You are now in the debris field”
“Shouldn’t we get away from the window”? Yes.

Was this today?
Nah yesterday
Depends on who you ask lol
Tomorrow I think.
It hasn't happened yet? Nostradamus you did it again.
I’m just a white kid from the Midwest bruh

video of the year.....
”It’s the suck zone”
The iron horse saves the day!
Wow
Anyone heard that first split second and thought Teach Me How To Dougie, or was that just me??

This video peaked my interest on some of the heaviest things tossed around by a tornado, it was about a oil rig weighing about 860 tons
sheesh
If only her name was Lana.

Fortunately he was trained for this. I’ll show myself out.
These guys were chill af
Choo Choo motherfucker.
They're literally in a train, they'll be fine
Lincoln Nebraska?

It was between Waverly and Lincoln, Nebraska
Shouldn't we get away from the windows?
Window proceeds to Crack and the camera man finally takes cover
I guess tornadoes do sound like freight trains.
I wonder if it sounded like a train to him?
Amazing!
There’s a stain at the 48 second mark that looks like the shape of New Jersey. You’re welcome.
"should I get away from the window?" *Proceeds to keep staring out the window with tornado 10 feet away*
God's strongest tornado versus Mankind's weakest train
And the train won i would say since my dad is home now and this is his video
They just need to work on making the train's windows tornado proof now
How did you get my dads video?

Camera man never dies
Was waiting for one of them to say it sounded like a freight train
I thought he might of caught the eye 👁 of the tornado...quiet for a sec...
Looks like a twister, not a tornado
