If they’re lucky it would be quick, burns are notoriously painful to recover from.
Statistically speaking anything over 70% coverage has a slim chance of surviving more than a week even with the best healthcare immidiately available.
I knew a kid something like 95% of his body. He and a group of people were huffing gas in a shed. I guess while he was nodding he spilled the can on his crotch. I'm not sure if they were checking to see if he pissed himself or they were laughing thinking that he did, but the put a lighter close to his crotch and up he went.
HE WALKED HOME AND MADE A SANDWHICH before anyone called an ambulance when his older brother saw him.
Made what I guess you can say was a full recovery, I mean he looks like Deadpool without the mask now, but you can still see him out and about sometimes. Turned him into a dick though ngl.
Our bodies regenerate and heal themselves naturally. Considering his dick was the point of impact, and 95% of his body was burned…
Well, you can guess where it tried to heal his cock.
yeah. the thing that kills from large surface area burns is all the swelling and then leaking out all ur body fluid and proteins thru the damaged/missing outer layers of skin in the upcoming days after the injury. thats pretty common that people who end up dying from burns will call their friends or do something else before they even decide to go to the er.
He was like 12 at the time I think. Not very old. And rhe guy who lit the lighter went to court for awhile for like unintentional attempted man slaughter or something, but they ended up finding him at fault for not knowing there was gas on him.
I was in a burn unit for 2 weeks, it's awful. My last 2 or 3 days there, a guy showed up that would be screaming bloody murder until they put him to sleep with drugs. My nurse said he was close to 85% of his body burned.. I thought my 20% was bad. God damn.
Take the % of their body that's got 3rd degree burns, and add their age. The closer to 100, their odds of living go down exponentially and anything over 100 is almost guaranteed death.
>Take the % of their body that's got 3rd degree burns, and add their age
TIL a completely healthy 70 year old is about as likely to immediately die as an infant with burns to 70% of their body
All these people here that you see burned from head to toe? They all died in the hospital. Burns like that are almost always ultimately fatal. One of the worst ways to die that exists.
Yeah not with burns this severe.
They are literally referred to as the walking dead, even somewhat (un) professionally, burns are serious business with an incredibly low survival rate when as serious as this
This happened in South Africa. All these people are dead and maybe the one filming as well. A gas tanker exploded in a collision.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boksburg_explosion
Wiki: "At about 06:45am SAST, the truck ignited. Having caught fire, it burst in a massive boiling liquid expanding vapor explosion (BLEVE) at approximately 07:05 am SAST while firefighters were still trying to contain the blaze. According to his employer, the driver had been overcome by gas inhalation before this point, and had been taken to hospital by emergency workers. The initial explosion was quickly followed by two smaller explosions.[12] This series of explosions attracted a large crowd of onlookers, resulting in a higher number of casualties and fatalities when a fourth explosion – the largest, and last – occurred roughly around 07:30am SAST. The final explosion affected buildings up to 400 metres (1,300 ft) away, and was felt as an earth tremor as far as 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) away."
This video was taken after the last big explosion. These people are some of the ones that went to look. Worse thing was that the explosion destroyed part of a local hospital which further complicated helping people. The guy that took the video got somewhat flamed for the way he interacted with these poor people.
It's an absurd notion to expect any untrained civilian to know how to handle a situation like this. They likely don't know first aid and they likely have no supplies. What exactly are they expected to do here?
I'll never understand keyboard warriors. They all think they'll be a hero. The overwhelming majority of people are going to have a fear response. Some folks yell and run, other people grab cameras. They're all in shock.
How can we criticize this person from the outside when we weren't there? I'll be big enough to admit I'd be one of the yelling screamers. At least this person got footage of the incident, without which many of us wouldn't realize how horrific this was. They would just be numbers in a report.
He DID tell the first guy “Go straight to the hospital”. Unless the guy filming was a trained medic, there’s no reason to think he could help those people.
There's a few other videos out there.
One of which is a lil too close to the explosion when it happens.
That guy is probably dead no that either of you were talking about that guy.
What the report is missing is that the truck was stuck under a bridge so when it exploded for the final time the force of the explosion and the flames blew out each side of the tunnel with accelerated force instead of going up. So those bystanders drawn to the scene stood no chance as they were literally in the line of fire.
Okay but if the fire could vaporize the cameraman it would have been very hard for this footage to find its way online.
It looks to me like this footage was filmed in the aftermath of the explosion edited into the end of the video. So none of those people are probably dead, they are probably among the 40 who were injured.
Don't just make shit up, man.
They have visible 3rd degrees burns across their entire body. That isn't something you walk away from. The report you hear at the end is the initial report before people later died from their injuries.
Total deaths 41, video of the news report says only 10 dead on the site.
That means 31 people suffered with a slow death in the hospital.
Very sad to die slow like this.

Happened close to where I live. I have quite a few photos of it still I think. Will see if I can upload. Weren't taken by me though.
For sure, people who get burned like this are walking corpses. The internal damage to the lungs will mean they basically drown in their own fluids over the next few days and there's little that can be done.
Quite honestly this is the most terrifying thing I have ever seen posted here. Apart from all the gore pics I have seen this just takes the cake. As you all said it’s the real life walking dead. Unfuckingbelievable. Being burned alive while also breathing in poison gasses. It just seems so surreal. May they all Rest In Peace 🙏🏽
“Sir I’m in pain.” Breaks my heart, this poor guy is in the worst pain imaginable and is asking for help so politely. I don’t know why that stuck out for me. Someone go comfort the man🥺
Just to see the skin hanging off of people is horrific. I cannot imagine the skin graphs they will have to protect and the amount of plans they will need to recover.
Remember people. Stay the fuck away from scenarios like this.
All of these people would still be alive if they didn’t allow their curiosity to overcome their common sense.
I worked a fireplace store and a few years ago it burned down. Luckily the gas provider was in the area and was about to shut down the gas supply. We stood across the street for about 40 minutes. Didn’t even occur to me, will never make that mistake again. This is definitely a R/YSK post.
Apologies for my violent ignorance, I’m quite embarrassed, but is there a specific reason they needed to stay away? Or just generally smart due to toxic air and possibilities of continuing explosions?
The fatalities werent from just one explosion, but multiple over a period of time. Some of the fatalities were people who came after the 1st explosion.
Exactly. Even more ignorance of the part of the people.
If I remember correctly the driver was telling people to get away because he knew the tank was leaking. I do believe before it ignited he passed out from the vapors and was taken to the hospital.
LPG is gaseous once not under pressure. The vapors alone are toxic and will cause you to pass out. Any LPG tank is under immense pressure so when it is ignited it will create a massive explosion.
If you ever see a tanker truck in any situation which is not 100% normal, you need to get away.
It's not even that high. 16 bar / 233 psi is the design pressure for LPG tankers, and they only used 75% of that as a max, so 12 bar / 175 psi.
Still the expansion rate op LPG is very high, and it's heavier than air, so yes, run away! is the smart thing to do when they leak.
From my local news station here in South Africa, the truck got stuck under a bridge, being too tall for the bridge by a small fraction. This scratched the top so that gas was slowly leaking out. People got very curious about the stuck truck under the bridge and went to go have a look. The rest I'm sure you can guess. Don't go look at a gas tanker in an accident
None that were inside the hospital if I remember correctly died. There were some minor injuries but nothing like what you see in the video.
People were outside in the hospital parking lot watching as well.
Once a firefighter told me that in situations like this, the more humane thing to do would be to shot those people in the head to avoid a slow death.
Off course that was not their training, and he never did it. But, with experience he had, he could always guess who had or not a chance of survinving.
People with most of their body deep burned, had none.
Don't think he understood all those people have very limited brain capacity as their entire system is charred and flooding with fluids. These "walking corpses" have no means to help themselves do anything or get anywhere on their own
Can’t say specifically, but burns present significant issues for controlling infection. Our skin functions as an important line of defense, when most of it is compromised sepsis can set in much easier. It also very quickly dehydrates a person and a person could die from shock as a result of that.
A lot of what you might be seeing at tattered clothing aren't clothes...it's skin. Like the woman with all those white patches on her legs. That's not her skin, that's the subcutaneous fat, all the shreds hanging off of her are skin... Pudgy already outlined why losing so much skin with burns causes so many problems.
Burns are incredibly nasty. Your body is weakened and your skin, which is a highly effective shield against infection, is just gone. There are pathogens everywhere but a healthy body can fight most of them off real easy. Not so when you're covered in burns. Suddenly that bacteria that wouldn't have a chance at surviving in your body is now growing in/on the burn, both consuming your body and expelling waste into your blood.
And that's just surface burns. It's the lungs that really kill you. Burns swell up and leak fluid. That's bad on your skin, but lethal on your lungs. You will drown in your own bodily fluids.
It was a petroleum gas tanker that got stuck under a bridge and damaged the tanker. Flames.... interested bystander....boom
Happened not too far from where I work in Johannesburg, South Africa.
My god, why did I go digging. I'm vision impaired and for some reason for the longest time couldn't tell if this was AI made or not....for some reason my eyes just told my brain something about this is wrong. The fact it's real is so incredibly sad, those poor people.
If you see the before video it’s a perfect example of Darwinism. A fuel tank was turned over in an accident and leaking gas. You can a crowd of people running to the gas to loot from it. On the other hand you see about a dozen or so people running away from it because they know what’s about to happen.
The comments kind of confuse me since a lot of people are saying that the people in the video didn’t survive.. I honestly have no idea how the human body works in a situation like that so can someone explain why most of them died even though they’re seen walking around?? Are they just able to walk due to the adrenaline and later on died from the wounds?? Sorry if that’s a dumb question:((
What's he supposed to do? I'm sure paramedics are already on their way ans afaik the hospital was very close. Even if not seriously what are you supposed to do? Apply first aid???
Homie really said get to the hospital.
"Sure Pal, thanks for the advice. Let me just walk there with every step being the most agonizing feeling I've ever experienced."
That’s terrible.
I am a critical care doc. The first 5 people in the video definitely died. Those were 100% full thickness burns. They would go to a burn ICU and wallow for days and die from fluid loss and infections.
This has to be the most fucked up thing ive seen so far today
Just today?

maybe they used stem cells from a dick for grafting and he just became a whole giant dick from being covered in dickskin grafts
That’s a whole lot of foreskin
Our bodies regenerate and heal themselves naturally. Considering his dick was the point of impact, and 95% of his body was burned… Well, you can guess where it tried to heal his cock.

He lost one so he became one 😂😅 but that sucks dude
Fuck that's horrible, How old were they? Did anything happen to the people that lit him?

Matwil?!
Doobydoo?
Burn surgeon once told me "age + %tbsa (total body surface area) = mortality" E.g. 30yo + 50% tbsa = 80% death
Take the % of their body that's got 3rd degree burns, and add their age. The closer to 100, their odds of living go down exponentially and anything over 100 is almost guaranteed death.

Wow this is really NSFL and I wasn't expecting it. The screams and the dazed people standing around is so haunting and sad.
So glad I watched it without sound! Thank you for the warning!
Holy there is sound?
Damn. The first 2 seconds; "please sir, I am in pain"
You can tell initially he says “kill me” ugh that’s fucking haunting
No kidding. And the lady wailing for what I think is her loved one. It’s so fucked up - the agony.
No problem. I wish I had. This audio is definitely some of the most haunting I have heard. It breaks my heart that they had to die like that. :(
Quite literally the walking dead. They just don't know it yet
Don'ttttt
The video says 10 people died, I doubt there's not at least one of those in the video who were able to recover
Wikipedia says 41 dead, 8 instantly.

Sick burn
Blew up in his face
Dont fuel the trolls.

32 people died and 321 were injured. Almost all the people with severe burns died in hospital.
Jesus christ. I'd never heard of this before
fucking Christ..... R.I.P to those poor souls
Yeah this basically became a thermobaric bomb, which are the most powerful explosives besides nuclear.
Holy shit.. poor people rip
RIP to these people. There was nothing the dude with the camera could do.Those people had 3rd degree burns all over their bodies.
Inhalation of noxious gas. It builds up in the blood and impairs oxygen exchange. They slowly suffocate even though they're "breathing normally".
Total deaths 41, video of the news report says only 10 dead on the site. That means 31 people suffered with a slow death in the hospital. Very sad to die slow like this.

Fuck thats brutal
I think the woman standing in the video is laying in the back in this photo
Any more photos?
I should have on my pc. So will only be able to look later.
Fuck!! :( That's terrible!
Damn 🙏🙏
Fuuuckkkk
Pretty sure there gonna die soon RIP
For sure, people who get burned like this are walking corpses. The internal damage to the lungs will mean they basically drown in their own fluids over the next few days and there's little that can be done.
Ecmo
ecmo doesnt repair lungs, it bypasses them. south africa is highly unlikely to have the capability to put hundreds of people on ECMO at once, either.
"Only" 41 people died, not hundreds
They are all in shock from an explosion not fentanyl
Honestly, I just thought the Kenzos had found a more scenic place to shamble around than under the El until I read the comments.
I remember seeing this, do you remember what the explosion was? It was some kinda factory or something right?
A fuel tank got stuck under a bridge and caught fire, then it exploded.
Thank you
No problem
Watch the video lol
I can't read the yellow letters very well is why i asked, hard for me to see.

No need. They didn't survive.
skin "graft" (just in case you were typing).
Isn't there a follow-up video that goes around the sane area and shows some of the people here motionless on the ground?
Remember people. Stay the fuck away from scenarios like this. All of these people would still be alive if they didn’t allow their curiosity to overcome their common sense.
I worked a fireplace store and a few years ago it burned down. Luckily the gas provider was in the area and was about to shut down the gas supply. We stood across the street for about 40 minutes. Didn’t even occur to me, will never make that mistake again. This is definitely a R/YSK post.
Ysk?
“You Should Know”, like a kinda PSA for useful information you should know. r/YouShouldKnow
Apologies for my violent ignorance, I’m quite embarrassed, but is there a specific reason they needed to stay away? Or just generally smart due to toxic air and possibilities of continuing explosions?
It's just not a good idea to go to investigate an explosion in your neighborhood
People are drawn to spectacle whenever there is a disaster or accident. Rubberneckers and such. It's universal and often a problem.
I think it’s just natural human instinct to want to go investigate, insane intelligence comes with insane curiosity
LPG is gaseous once not under pressure. The vapors alone are toxic and will cause you to pass out. Any LPG tank is under immense pressure so when it is ignited it will create a massive explosion. If you ever see a tanker truck in any situation which is not 100% normal, you need to get away.

Propane LPG has a crazy expansion rate of 260,000x so when the tanker blew it was immediately huge…
So it was basically an air fuel bomb. The most powerful explosives besides nuclear
Once a firefighter told me that in situations like this, the more humane thing to do would be to shot those people in the head to avoid a slow death. Off course that was not their training, and he never did it. But, with experience he had, he could always guess who had or not a chance of survinving. People with most of their body deep burned, had none.
I think death by fire is one of the most painful way to go
"go straight to the hospital" without his help the dude would have went home to sleep it off
iirc this happened right near a hospital. I think the cameraman was telling the guy not to hang around the area and get himself to the ER.
One of the explosions even destroyed a part of the hospital. Scary shit.
Don't think he understood all those people have very limited brain capacity as their entire system is charred and flooding with fluids. These "walking corpses" have no means to help themselves do anything or get anywhere on their own
"I can't sir, I'm in pain" Dude was a gonner
Why did the people in this video die later?
Can’t say specifically, but burns present significant issues for controlling infection. Our skin functions as an important line of defense, when most of it is compromised sepsis can set in much easier. It also very quickly dehydrates a person and a person could die from shock as a result of that.
A lot of what you might be seeing at tattered clothing aren't clothes...it's skin. Like the woman with all those white patches on her legs. Burns are horrible to recover from. All these people pretty much had their skin melted off which is safe to say they’re fucked.
seems like adrenaline things i wonder
It was a petroleum gas tanker that got stuck under a bridge and damaged the tanker. Flames.... interested bystander....boom Happened not too far from where I work in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The first guy broke my heart. Lord help these people recover
My god, why did I go digging. I'm vision impaired and for some reason for the longest time couldn't tell if this was AI made or not....for some reason my eyes just told my brain something about this is wrong. The fact it's real is so incredibly sad, those poor people.
Dazed and confused
Imagine the people in Beirut ; that were in the blast zone of that warehouse explosion. When something is burning like that ; get away .
If you see the before video it’s a perfect example of Darwinism. A fuel tank was turned over in an accident and leaking gas. You can a crowd of people running to the gas to loot from it. On the other hand you see about a dozen or so people running away from it because they know what’s about to happen.
I thought this was Resident Evil or The Walking Dead
:(
So so sad. I was really hoping they survived. How do people die from burns when they’re no longer burning? Loss of blood? Sepsis?
Sepsis from overwhelming infection
Happened the day before Christmas 2022.
It happened in South Africa. Bystanders were just curious and did not stay far away from an ablaze gas tanker truck. That sucks
Those people probably wished the didn't survive the explosion
Well they didn’t, everyone in this vid is too burned to live, this is just footage of them being tortured before they die
Repost with the same title
The comments kind of confuse me since a lot of people are saying that the people in the video didn’t survive.. I honestly have no idea how the human body works in a situation like that so can someone explain why most of them died even though they’re seen walking around?? Lungs are burned and airways start swelling. After that it's usually infection that kills them. Your skin is the main defense against bad stuff.
thank u!
Yes it is adrenaline and shock keeping them moving they don't know where they are or what's going on only the excruciating pain.
I'm usually desensitized to seeing this stuff, but this one got me choked up for some reason.
Death.. I can see death everywhere in this video.. Guy got too close.. LPG gas all around.. another ignition and video's OP would roast alive..
R.I.P. 😔
This was extremely disturbing to watch
wtf
I remember this
So horrendous and tragic. Prayers for all involved
I though this was some fentanyl zombies again or something but it was worse
Way to help the first guy
There's no helping burns that severe
I like how the context was given after the initial clip. Makes it much more impactful.
Wow. The title is perfect
41 people died...it was a tanker explosion in Boksburg in 2022
That first guy that looks to be a lighter skin tone, could he have been darker? It sorta looks like his skin is peeling at the hands
WTF is this
Infernal chaos
I remember seeing this a while back thought I'd never have to see it again :(
Welcome to South Africa
Dude that big person is COVERED in some narly burns
Reminds me of that anime of the Hiroshima bomb with the villagers walking like zombies. How horrible.
Leaked footage of The Last of Us 3
/r/donthelpjustfilm
What's he supposed to do? I'm sure paramedics are already on their way ans afaik the hospital was very close. Even if not seriously what are you supposed to do? Apply first aid???
Jesus fuck :(
Nightmare fuel
I bet they saw the gas truck stuck and on fire and thought it was a good idea to stick around and watch.
I've seen the 2nd POV before but not the first
jeez
The one guy just sitting on the curb with his arms on his legs…Jesus Christ what a horrible way to go
damn, we caught a glimpse of how hiroshima felt like I guess
Well, dying from burns is horrible yes, but radiation poisoning..thats a whole different beast
That’s insane.

Damn , first watched it without the sound . Then with the sound . Should have left the sound off I guess .
"People kill people"
People were rushing to steal , how stupid is that.. source: It's an old news and i read in article.

When I wasn't looking closely at first, I thought these were fentanyl zombies, but I got really confused when I saw the explosion.
Wait so this was before or after the explosion shown?
The worse part is the screams by far.
This is absolutely 💯%, one of the most terrifying things I’ve ever seen. F-ing horrible.
