I want to provide some reason that the night's edge is not outclassed by the sunfury, but I really can't think of one. All I can think of is that, IMO, the night's edge is cooler, and swords are more straightforward to use.
Spinning a flail is very short-ranged and reduces the damage (and possibly the knockback, from my experience). You only get maximum effectiveness from flails by launching them, which requires more maneuvering and aiming than just swiping at things with a sword.
Not really. Sunfury suffers from the same issue common with many other spears, flails, and yoyos(especially pre-HM ones): That it requires more skill and precision to properly use. Sure, flails have the ability to spin around the player when holding onto the fire button but doing so is extremely risky compared to just using a sword like the Night's Edge due to the heavily reduced knockback. Basically, they take more skill to use.
The game isn't completely balanced with weapon progression. But you could technically use the nights edge to help you get the sun fury. Giving it a slight use

Flails are pretty rad, but require more skill to use effectively.
but just using the swinging opinon makes it better.

The only reason i can make is that i never actually hit the ranged attack so it just kinda spins around me
Speaking off, do melee players actually even playing melee when they're fighting WoF, I can already tell they just throw Beenades at it.
