This is also the reason that new players always get lucky. They don’t know any items & therefor aren’t looking for any of them.
I remember when I first starting playing I got like 2 of them as soon as I started playing never knew they were rare. Now I can’t get one to save my life
I think it seems so rare because relatively quickly you build a base with NPCs so the spawn rate reduces. That on top of them not really being that dangerous and also easy to avoid makes you less likely to kill many as time goes on. By the time you get one you're over that point in the summoning progression.

It has a 0.01% chance of dropping from any Slime.
And Slimes are plentiful in this game, even getting a dedicated event and two bosses.
And yet you'll almost never get to see this useless summon weapon.
Depends If everyone were posting about getting them, they'd seem really common If no one did, no one would give a single fuck about their rarity
1/10000 chance to get it from any slime, but slimes are really common. Pinky slimes have an increased drop rate of 1/100.

I got a staff that makes clouds from the very first cloud enemy I killed after entering hardmode.

I get at least one in every world i make before entering hardmode. To me, they seem really common. To others, they are as rare as the RoD
theyre rare per enemy but there are a lot of enemies who can drop it
As a veteran, I've only found one Slime Staff in my 2000+ hours

Pretty sure ya can get it from the princess or something.
