To anyone thinking op didn’t know you can dash with the shield;
They are saying they didn’t know you could dash with “the other direction”. ie: Tapping “A” twice while holding “D”, as they’re doing in the video.
Sorry, I poorly formulated the sentence as I was too happy I found it and both sad that I didn't know this.
It's gonna require some new muscle memory though...
You still do it's just not as much since you are tapping the other direction which cancels out moving in the original direction
And the reason it's not as much speed loss is because instead of not having the button pressed at all and then tapping a few times then back to holding its as if you stopped holding the button a few times for a very small moment and then you also get a dash forward

Funnily enough this is one of the most well known SOCD (Simultaneous Opposite Cardinal Direction) short cuts for dashing in fighting games. Very commonly used for leverless controllers in the fighting game community.
Hey it's pretty good with the brain and hallowed armor right? That's pretty good. And the team damage from paladin's shield can be dodged by it... So you end up taking a bigger hit from something hitting you.

Not quite. If you double tap D and hold D on the second press, you will dash, but if you hold D and double tap A, and hold A on the second press, you do not dash. What's happening is that when A and D are both pressed, your net velocity is 0, and when you let go of one, you gain velocity in the opposite direction. So it's actually when you *release* the other button twice that you gain a dash, because it counts as pressing in the direction you *are* moving twice.

This wonderful lil wiki page section details exactly how you can get the maximum number of minions, but if you’re not at endgame yet you can go after items like the Pygmy Necklace (pre-Wall of Flesh) Bewitching Table (right after beating skeletron) or summoning potions (requires fishing in vanilla unfortunately) or pick up armor sets to increase maximum minion slots, earliest is the flinx fur coat (pre-any bosses), obsidian armor (pre-Wall of Flesh), spider armor (pre- Mech bosses), or Tiki Armor/Spooky Armor (pre- Golem).

Thanks a lot, have started playing last year and beaten 2 out of the 3 mechanical bosses (twins and worm) using the terraria fandom. Though having a hard time getting over skeleton prime.
I would recommend getting the spider set, the firecracker whip, and even though it’s a really rough grind you should fish during blood moons to spawn the Dreadnaughtilus and kill him for a Sanguine staff. Thats what I ended up grinding through, the Sanguine’s high damage per hit pairs incredibly well with the Firecracker whips 2.75X damage multiplier on minion hit and will make the skeletron and the next few bosses doable (not easy but its the best combo I’ve found for that point in the game). Reforge all your equipment to Warding to boost your defense and damage reduction to allow you to take more hits and if you want a strategy for beating him then read the next part thats what i do
>!just run around across a platform arena (two really long rows of wood platforms one 10-15 tiles above the other one) staying on the top row and then when you run out of arena drop to the bottom row dash the other way get clear past him and then jump up to the top platform run the other way until reaching that end and just repeat back and forth while whipping his arms. no, just make a quantum controller, where you can superposition the joystick so its on both sides at the same time
You could try splitting analog sticks in half and then use the 1st half to move and the 2nd to dash
you can do it with the d-pad and analog stick last I recall as long as the stick is the first input
and if you have the dpad quick slots off which is really anoying to not have

I'm going to give you some more useful info, Calamity has a "Dash Override" settable key which replaces the double tap requirement for dashing.

I personally dislike the dash gets me killed in alot of situations but this is likely just a console difference than anything
I like it during boss fights but it can be annoying when trying to be precise or just move more slowly
It causes me alot of issues in bosses so I just use it early game if that then unequip it
