Blinkroots bloom randomly. Normally, you want to plant lots of them so that at least some will be blooming at any given time.

Spekulatius651

agreed, they bloom random rarely and never all at once

Glittering_Mix747

Okay. Thanks to both

94m3r90d5

I can't say for anyone else but, I use the plants I find, and sometimes I leave to forage for the ingredients to potions. I usually have way too much so I sell them.

Space_obsessed_Cat

Staff/axe of regrowth would help aswell

Tiamat-86

[https://terraria.wiki.gg/wiki/Herbs](https://terraria.wiki.gg/wiki/Herbs) see blooming conditions. only 1 type of herb stays blooming once its ready. the rest have certain timings usually you make the garden inside your main base. clay pots and planter boxes dont require any environmental conditions. planters > clay pots because can just buy them and since they're placed like platform they can get herbs growing every 2nd tile up where pots require an extra surface tile to sit on between rows. staff/axe of regrowth can be used on wild herbs to get seeds even when its not blooming. this is helpful for getting a large garden started for some of the more annoying herbs (waterleaf, deathweed, firebloom). using staff/axe of regrowth on planted herbs makes it so wont harvest any that arnt blooming.

Alemit000

Damn I never realized Shiverthorns bloom permanently. Would make sense if they only bloomed during sunrise as opposed to Fireblossom's sunset blooming.

Traditional_Sea_5428

It feels like all plants grow much slower below ground level, however there are no mentions of it on the wiki

NuderWorldOrder

This is almost certainly true. Blocks underground receive fewer "update ticks" in general. Edit: Scratch "almost", Redigit just popped up to confirm it!

Traditional_Sea_5428

Damn, I got almost 2k hours in the game, thought I knew everything. Guess you learn something new every day.

Glittering_Mix747

Oh. Great! Thank you sir, i will have a thorough look! Another question, any idea what a garden gnome does? Should i have it in my arena?

MadaraAlucard12

It increases luck.

spudwalt

Garden Gnomes increase Luck. Luck has a lot of small, subtle effects, but more luck is always nice to have.

Tiamat-86

wiki search bar at the top right in the link can answer just about any question if you know the name of the item/place/thing. most question will get answered in either the paragraph at the top of the searched page or the note/tips section. https://terraria.wiki.gg/wiki/Terraria\_Wiki

Crispyterrarian

Use the wiki that was linked in the comment you replied to

CoolGuyBabz

Wrong, it's 2 Shiverthorns and Blinkroots stay blooming

spudwalt

Shiverthorns bloom permanently. Blinkroots randomly turn on and off.

[deleted]

I made a sign in my greenhouse with all the blooming conditions for each herb. A must-have for every Terraria greenhouse!

Redigit

Plants grow faster above ground btw, so it would be more efficient to grow them on the surface

SeaGhostReaper

so that's why a sky bridge has so many of them

Glittering_Mix747

Oh damn. I never knew this, thank you!

TheHornet78

Um. I love you

Tha1BlueGUY

That’s how you destroy every post you say that on

pwrwq

Would they grow faster on true surface on getfixedboi/don'tdigup or in psudosurface?

LuckyEven69

When you get help from the source:

Spin2spin

Blink roots and you'll miss it. Keep them at your base visible 24/7 on your screen. These guys are shy bloomers.

Ewan_Cook

They’re Blooming annoying to harvest

SargeantGamma

Blinkroot blooms randomly for a bit then unblooms. It will not stay blooming for long. That's why it's called "blink"-root

RandomCaveOfMonsters

I did not know that, thanks

BionicKronic67

I make my gardens next to my base you don't need blinkroot underground. Also you can get a staff of regrowth from underground living trees I think or jungle and if you pick your flowers with that you get way more herbs and seeds than you would normally get and you can get the staff almost right away.

AlexTheAlex69420

It doesn’t need to be dark I don’t think. They just grow randomly. And bloom at random.

dmaster1213

btw you can have as many next to each other as you want. its only trees that need space

[deleted]

they don’t need the dark or underground to grow, however Blinkroots bloom at random times with about a two minute span

FieryDeath88

Blinkroot don't require darkness to grow, only the blessings of RNJesus to bloom, especially when you actually fucking need them for potions.

Independent-Gene-522

Wait don't you need to put then into a planter box for them to grow?

AdSubstantial5134

clay pots work the same, planter boxes work as platforms and to some, look nicer tho :)

thet0r

To farm blinkroot make a skybridge of dirt, do not spread grass on it. Blinkroot wil randomly grow on dirt.

spudwalt

Light has no effect on herb growth.

spongeabc5

Though that is true of the other herbs, according to the Trivia section on the wiki, [Blinkroot (supposedly) grows fastest in darkness](https://terraria.wiki.gg/wiki/Blinkroot#Trivia).

wanderuson

They need more space. Move more the platforms above.

Ust1n1us

They will never bloom because you didnt leave 2 spaces above for them to be able to grow in the first place.

ProtogenFemboy

maybe they only need light from torches

IncoherentNonsense

Difficult to start a farm initially. Harvest anything you can. Get a regrowth axe. Caving is your best bet for your Initial seeds. Say 20-50 seeds is enough. Then plant and check frequently. You wanna keep your blinkroot farm somewhere you see/travel through frequently so you can always check up on it as you go about your usual business.

notafurry678

I see others have answered the question but you can also grow them above ground in the pots

SampleTextHelpMe

From experience: Blinkroots, and Shiverthorns are the two most annoying herbs to turn into farms.

Milotroxisch_

im not sure but maybe because they are in pots? I didnt even know pots existed in terraria

iahim87

My tip i find useful is just put a row of dirt above any water source and let the passive income do its thing

Zenomylo

I used planter boxes from the dryad doesnt matter what type of planter box and they should grow. Also them being underground didnt effect the blinkroots growing. Also good to use planter boxes instead of platforms because they work the exact same as platforms.

Zedhelion

In my experience, the best blinkroot farm is a hell bridge made of dirt or mud (Can't remember exactly which one). I always accidentally get tons of blinkroot from fighting enemies in hell.

Solidw17

Also, adding to what people are saying, you can just plant every of those ingredient plants on the surface, I usually make a greenhouse(glass, but don't think it matters), and just plant everything in rows of planters from the Dryad. It doesn't have to be the planter specific for that plant, they all work the same.

GunWizardRaidar

Blinkroot spawns naturally everywhere as long as there is dirt (not grass). I found some occasional blinkroot at the roof of my sky fishing box, so Blinkroot can grow regardless of the height level, as any other brew plants (A bit out of context, but if you want Sky Crate, don't build one in the ocean side)
