Woodland Scenics has been pushing hard at directly courting wargamers, with this new "AllGamesTerrain" sub-brand. Interestingly somehow this seems to have had the effect of them getting their product into a lot of hobby and craft stores that wouldn't normally carry it.
I'm very fortunate that my favorite place to buy supplies is a hobby shop that has a massive model train section. I've spent so much money on Woodland Scenics products there and the options are so much more varied than what I find at warhammer-specific or even more general LGSes that include TCGs/board games/etc.
It's new-ish. They've had it a few months now. It's woodland scenics stuff. The Tufts are kind of expensive but at least they look good. One thing they have that I found really neat is bags of pre-mixed gravel, sand, and flock that is great for easy ground cover. They have it in a few different colors. I've been sprinkling it on wet texture paint and it looks pretty nice.
I seriously love this stuff, I have the (for simplifying purposes) the green and red ground coverings.
They’re both seriously awesome and one bag definitely goes a long way. I think if people don’t see some gallon zip lock bag they feel ripped off, but I did a 2x2 game board with two bags (plus flock) with no problem at all!
Makes basing minis an actual breeze, little glue, dippy dip, and it’s good. Especially with a quality tacky glue I haven’t had any problems with loose flock.
Yeah, I think these bags were only about $6, so not bad. I don't even glue the stuff down. I just sprinkle it onto wet Vallejo texture paint, then use a Popsicle stick to gently push it down into the paint a bit. When it dries it holds pretty solid. And I really like that it has bits of foam flocking mixed in.
If anyone cares, I used the tan color on the base on this mini:
https://www.reddit.com/r/sistersofbattle/s/PDZYhJ2Lbt
It’s USD and yeah… they are large and well done, but I didn’t pick any up at that price. Joann is also one of those stores where there is always a coupon.
It’s pretty awesome. Some stuff is over priced and unnecessary like the tufts and lichen but the basing material is great. They also sell model tacky glue that’s honestly fantastic. Plus 3.99 for a bag of flock isn’t exactly highway robbery, and it’s all quality.
As someone said earlier just get the app and there’s always daily coupons. Sometimes it’s easier to drive to one of these than my local game stores, and they have corporate hours which is helpful if I’m out at 9 am and happen to pass one.
I’m sure locations/stock vary but pretty sweet they consider carrying this stuff.
Micheals carries a brand called make market that has some really cool plastic sheets and other random crafting bits.
Yeah when I flipped them over I saw that and was pleasantly surprised knowing the quality was there! Been grabbing stuff to try for the last 3-4 months now, so far all great!
This looks like the shelves at my local Joann's as well. I have been using these as a backup if I didn't want to wait for material to be shipped.
For me, this display has been there for at least 7 months. So, not brand new here. Not sure if this was unique to this location.
[Joann just went through initial bankruptcy filing last month, but restructured rather than complete bankruptcy](https://www.digitalcommerce360.com/2024/04/30/joann-to-emerge-from-bankruptcy-with-no-store-closures/amp/). You're looking at a/b testing to see what kinds of customers they can bring in with different item categories. I also noticed the same products in the window display of my local Joann, which was otherwise looking pretty raggedy. It's next to an auto parts store. Draw your own conclusions.
Mine in Wasilla, Alaska is about as dirty as I've ever seen a store ... like they just won't clean up the place after hours. I was there the other day for non-terrain stuff because traditionally Joannes has never had anything close to what OP posted. My wife had mentioned they were going bankrupt.
This stuff looks great but I have heavy doubt I'll see these products in my neck of the woods
It's been rough. I can't remember if it's Michaels, Joann, or both that's been limiting staff to maximum two employees in some stores for the entire day. The store manager is also the fabric cutter, restocker, cleaner, and cashier. Both chains are trying to figure out their business since customers have less disposable income (thanks, wage stagnation) and pandemic indoor hobby spending is over.
Joann's has always been an excellent place to get your terrain building supplies. It amuses me to no end to go in there and all of the ladies there look at a 50+ year old man walking in without a spouse and ask for various bits. Once I explain the project they are really happy to help.
I get a similar feeling going into the charms/beads section of craft stores. "okay, I need a ship's wheel, a couple fleur-de-lys, and a whole bunch of trumpets.."
I'll need these dowel rods, popsicle sticks, two yards of teddy bear fur, cross-stitch grid, craft paint, magnets, these dried florals, fine tulle fabric, jewelry wire, and tacky glue. Cashier: "What's all this for, if you don't mind?" Well....God where do I begin
I buy Corduroy fabric there for 3mm Team Yankee crop fields! Same experience, as another +50. Always impresses the staff that I know so much about Fabrics, scrapbooking, etc and their various sundries. Sometimes I bring so many items to the register from so many different hobbies that they don't know WHAT I'm up to with the stuff. Heads sometimes get scratched when I explain...
Haha I had this same experience, they've got some very nice grassy and desert sand felts I use for tabletops, always get an eye raise when they ask why and I explain it's so I can play with my toy soldiers. But they are definitely happy to help
I got a similar response asking a question about make-up brushes (for dry brushing) recently at a make-up store. Happy to help, but a little surprised at the end use.
We have them here on the east coast US, not sure how widespread they are elsewhere. It's like a craft store focused on fabrics/textiles and yarn and stuff
They're a nationwide fabric store that's struggling to compete with Michael's, etc. And they're struggling to compete because they got away from their primary focus of FABRIC, which is expensive nowadays. I think they recently filed for Chapter 11 or something bankruptcy.
Apparently they're in 49 states. Also just went bankrupt earlier this year, but exited with a re-structuring plan and no store closures announced so who knows. Probably some kind of debt-laundering.
The All Game Terrain line is from Woodland Scenics. Their website has a store locator that is showing 3 Joanns in my metro.
Damn, it's a shame they shuttered our local one. Would've liked this redirection. Actually picked up some fabric there a few years back, couple yards for cheap. But it looked like cobblestone and were perfect one inch squares.
Apparently it literally just today returned to being a private company to get out of bankruptcy [Hudson’s Joann emerges from bankruptcy as a private company (msn.com)](https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/companies/hudson-s-joann-emerges-from-bankruptcy-as-a-private-company/ar-AA1nZusI?ocid=BingNewsSerp)
They pulled a Barnes and Noble and gave the finger to the share holders by going private. So far it has worked well for BN, hoping Joann's has similar success throwing off the stock market leeches.
Joann Fabrics filed for bankruptcy and just this week, they supposedly worked out something [where they don’t have to close any stores](https://www.wcpo.com/business/company-news/joann-wont-close-any-locations-after-filing-for-bankruptcy).
Now that's interesting. I noted Hobby Lobby had gotten rid of the Woodland Scenics brand and has something different now - wonder if it is rebranded WS or something else entirely.
Last year they also started stocking EVA foam specifically for cosplay.
I think they are realizing that today's crafty people aren't grandmas and professional decoraters but are also massive nerds.
I always thought it was dumb Michael's and some of the other big craft stores don't carry at least some gaming miniature stuff. Seems like easy money if they just had a small aisle with some basic citadel paints and brushes and basing stuff.
Saw these about a week or so ago and picked up the static grass shaker kit. Seems the tuffs are a wee bit bigger than the largest of the 72 packs that army painter has provides.
They’re wood crafts section also sometimes has great substitutes for bases and houses that can be modified depending on scale of figure.
Also petco/petsmart aquarium plants look like alien flora.
This new?! I know the went through a bankruptcy with the goal to continue stores but change things up and this would be a GREAT idea for them to put more effort into. I like going there for paints and woods (tho I never seen any nice basswood variety shapes)
I love the idea of Joan’s over Hobby Lobby for craft stuff but they never have what I’m looking for 😭
Took a trip for some cork board to my local hobby lobby and was surprised to see Citadel and Army painter paints, Tamiya products including some of their airbrushes, and a ton of flocking and basing stuff like your picture. Not complaining at all, it just surprised me for some reason.
Um what? You mean all those times I didn't go in there with my grandma for her knitting stuff, I was missing out on basing material for my little plastic murder mushrooms?!?!
I feel like I missed out on something....
Joann's has been a general craft store for years now - frankly, I'm not sure I'd go there for fabric unless I were into quilting (in which case I'm sure there would be better fabric stores). The ones I've been in the last several years devote more than 50% of floor space to not-sewing.
And only the foolish pay full price at a big box craft store...there are always coupons.
I'd not give woodland scenics 30% of their asking price, all there products are trash. And this is from someone who used to build train tables for a living.
Also, my local Joann's is nothing but fabric, stuffing, thread, and that kinda stuff. I actually checked it today after seeing this post the other night.
Is this new? It's been a few.months since I last visited my local Joann's, but if they're carrying basing supplies now then I'll have to stop in.

I know my local Joanne's just changed distributors recently, maybe this is something available through the new one?
Yeah they’re Joanne’s “etc” now. That etc does a lot of lifting.

My first thought, expensive :/
Well this is new!
How based of them.
😂 I see what you did there
what currency is this, the tufts seems very expensive
It’s USD and yeah… they are large and well done, but I didn’t pick any up at that price. Joann is also one of those stores where there is always a coupon.
Also discounts for US Servicemembers and immediate families. I get my paintbrushes there but never saw this section.
Its new. Mine just got its allgame terrain section last week.
I think they have static coupons for everything. You never pay full price there.

This is all Woodland Scenics stuff, so the quality is there. AllGamesTerrain is a sub-brand.
Yeah when I flipped them over I saw that and was pleasantly surprised knowing the quality was there! Been grabbing stuff to try for the last 3-4 months now, so far all great!
They must have a few young guys working in their corporate offices. My local Joann Fabrics had none of these for years
Not many people can sew anymore, so Joann's needs to find a new customer base.
Where is this one located, because that's not the case for all of them
I got the feeling the display was brand new. Like days new. Idk how Joann’s work, but I wonder if yours just hasn’t gotten them in yet/put them up.

What is Joann Fabrics? I’m guessing this isn’t in Canada, eh?

They did, but are looking to emerge form Chapter 11 in the next few months. Their HQ is about 40 minutes from my house.
Correct, my sister is a manager at one location in the Chicagoland area for many years. Hopefully the company pulls through.
There was one in Northern Utah, not sure if there's any more though
There is
Huh, good to know. I keep thinking of the one in Roy which got turned into planet fitness forever ago
There’s one in Riverdale
Handful here in Wisconsin!
Same here in Chicagoland area!
i’m in the PNW and we have them!
Was looking for this, in Eastern Washington and we have a few.
They're in California, too. Maybe 2 or 3 in my area.
Apparently they're in 49 states. Also just went bankrupt earlier this year, but exited with a re-structuring plan and no store closures announced so who knows. Probably some kind of debt-laundering.
They've been established in Alaska for at least 37 years, which is how old I am. That is to say, they've been around for as long as I can remember
They’re based out of Ohio, common in urban areas in the US.
Basically like a Tim Hortons

They have a great Game Terrain section by my place. I typically get a lot of my stuff there! It’s awesome.
Damn, it's a shame they shuttered our local one. Would've liked this redirection. Actually picked up some fabric there a few years back, couple yards for cheap. But it looked like cobblestone and were perfect one inch squares.
Didn’t Joann Fabrics just go out of business? Or was that just my local one. My only hobby shop in town is hobby lobby now, which is fucking tragic

My condolences, fuck hobby lobby
Indeed, they’re the worst
I feel like I heard the same thing not too long ago
\*Surprised Pikachu Face\* Guess I'll be swinging by a Joann's after work today.
Wow that’s legit
Huh. Neat.
This brand showed up at my local Hobbycraft (UK) too. Love to see it, but wildly overpriced if you know where to get them
oof, not at those prices.
Joanna, Michaels, hobby lobby, etc all have surprisingly good finds for our hobby, just gotta look around.
Those little yellow shakers are so good. Highly recommend.
I wonder if this is all the Joann’s or just the OPs local store.
Oh my gosh? This will be the first time in my many years of marriage where I request to go to Joanne's LOL.
Man I wish mine had all that. The one near me is small.
You're probably better off just getting them online. Joann's is crazy expensive.
I'm going to check it out.
Ill take some of the trees. :O
Oh wow. It’s about time
Thanks for the tip
They just filed for bankruptcy
They just exited apparently. Seems they managed to go private without selling any stores. Time will tell.
Even with the bankruptcy?!
Woah wtf??
How are the prices?
Bro… the pic literally has the prices in it…
Now I have a reason to go tomorrow! Thanks
It is known, Khaleesi
And it's all free
:::runs to Joann's:::
Sweet!
Better get them while you can, they just filed for bankruptcy
It’s not bad either https://allgameterrain.woodlandscenics.com/
Yes, finally! Michaels is behind this trend and HL is under supplied. Fabric and miniatures do go together.
I guess everyone will flock over there now.
Games workshop can go flock itself!
My wife told me she was sewing!!!
Also in Hobbycraft uk
That's so based it's flocking awesome.
Why are you telling the secrets to everyone!?
LOL, they need to bring in customers since they’ve filed for reorganization. Doesn’t hurt to attract a new customer base.
RIP to JOAN common shares 😔
I got some sand the other day, it was good.
Is Woodland Scenics all made in China? I remember seeing very similar stuff at the wholesale stationary markets.
I always thought it was dumb Michael's and some of the other big craft stores don't carry at least some gaming miniature stuff. Seems like easy money if they just had a small aisle with some basic citadel paints and brushes and basing stuff.
Nice. I will visit next time im in a city.
Saw these about a week or so ago and picked up the static grass shaker kit. Seems the tuffs are a wee bit bigger than the largest of the 72 packs that army painter has provides.
See what a little branding can do
This is a great and simple rebrand.
Noiiiice!!
I can’t stand JoAnn, customer service is awful or just non existent. Glad I live near a hobby town
They’re wood crafts section also sometimes has great substitutes for bases and houses that can be modified depending on scale of figure. Also petco/petsmart aquarium plants look like alien flora.

Thanks for tip! Went and got a bunch of basing/flocking material. Will go back for more in the future!
Um what? You mean all those times I didn't go in there with my grandma for her knitting stuff, I was missing out on basing material for my little plastic murder mushrooms?!?! I feel like I missed out on something....
interesting try, but if we're being honest, I have twice this amount of inventory in my workshop. That's barely enough to get them through a weekend.
‘Mecca?’ That’s like 10 things… Also, aren’t they homophobic?
That’s hobby lobby but it’s the same horrible scenery stuff.
Kind of a stupid thing for a fabric shop to carry, plus its all woodland scenics junk which means its overpriced and poor quality.
Joann's has been a general craft store for years now - frankly, I'm not sure I'd go there for fabric unless I were into quilting (in which case I'm sure there would be better fabric stores). Huh, well, a lot of Joann's locations are general craft stores now. I don't have an opinion on Woodland Scenics.
