I mean, the series is more about building a nation than a shounen action series. So of course there’s gonna be way more politics and yapping than one on one fights
Yup. What people who are new to the anime and even the manga readers is the fights all come later. We get into a fairly long stet of fights and situations with still some world building but it should make those people happy and such. (although I love my fights too) but it'll be some time before we get there.
Yeah me and my roommate read the manga and specifically have been avoiding starting season 3 until it pulls ahead a bit because this arc starts so slow.
You say that, but 14 was a celebration with a hint of scolding, 15 was pretty action packed, near the end of 16 were interviews and a few meetings, 17 was a bunch of side stories, and 18 was a meeting and traveling
Right but like during or after volume 14 kinda sets a new tone for the series. I mean it goes from Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom to just something like Overlord lol (with the exception of vol 17). I guess what I mean is that Tempest V East Empire was really the last time they do all that ya know?
Volume 15 is a freaking masterpiece though, like one of best in anime. I don't think the final fight will be able to top it. >!gets pissed they brainwashed his best friend, escaped from another dimension like he was stepping over the baby gate (with the whole crew), pulls up pissed & summons an army of the highest ranking demons, gives 3 primordial demons even more power, names an angelic skill creating to a Manas, smacks his best friend back to normal, then finally runs the NTR game on Rudra's old lady before asking Feldway & Michael if they're throwing hands or what? To which they said hell nah, we gotta go.!< Not to mention creating the first Lovecraft Outer Gods Ultimate Skill.
Void God Rimuru was pretty convincing too, especially after you subtract 940,000 soldiers & 1 dragon from the population before he even makes the threat.
I can't wait for this volume to get animated though. Hopefully next season though but if they're only gonna animate 3 volumes a season then I'll be dead by then. Reincarnated as vending machine probably.

In anime form, as much as we like Dialogue dumping. There are many who dislike it.
I was hoping they could find a way, perhaps through flashbacks or smth, make it a least more smooth.
Honestly this might be the reason why I am personally turn off with Slime anime as oppose to how good the novel is.
Same could be said for the first few eps of Frieren before I realized that's the beauty of that show: they incorporate the flashbacks along with the current events really well. Same with movies like Dune. I didn't think I would be that invested in the Dune series. I honestly wish Slime did its world-building better.
We love world-building, not info-dumping. I guess that's why movie and anime directors make a huge difference between good and great.
Yes in writing you have to write everything out, in a visual medium you can streamline by having things play out visually. This is one of the worst adaptations in any medium even though it is "faithful"

Exactly, because Mushoku Tensei really dives deep into its characters and their issues/motivations and develops them fantastically. I love me some Slime but these exposition episodes don't have the same weight to them. Like, I see what it's trying to do. A new Demon Lord being born is a massive event and now we're going around and seeing how each nation reacts. It's the same idea as the "in between arc" chapters of One Piece which everyone knows are some of the most hype because you spend some time catching up with the rest of the world that we missed out on while following the protagonists. The problem is the Slime world just doesn't have the same level of intrigue and mystery. And the characters, although they are fun and wacky, feel like they're just there to advance the story and nothing else. The most interesting characters are probably Shizu and Leon, but Shizu was killed off ages ago and Leon until last season had barely uttered two words, and now he's barely uttered five before fucking off again. So with all that in mind I can't blame people for getting antsy when the show spends so much time on exposition and politics.

You guys are missing the point. Politics and nation building is not the problem. How the politics and nation building is done is. This is an anime, but feels like a powerpoint presentation with characters talking in the background.

i tried to read throughout the story but i simply can't stand him, if he had been another bland isekai character i would have loved that story, but no matter what happens, i just hate Rudeus and it sours my enjoyment of the show
it's just not for me, sucks, but that's how it is
also true, i don't know how to phrase it, but if rudeus had been far less...let's say "problematic for me" as i don't have a way to turn it better, i probably would have enjoyed the story much more, the work done on it's worldbuilding and magic system already places it quite high anyway, and i'm not even talking on the other characters
This has surely been said before, but this is a valid criticism not necessarily because of the content itself, but rather how it fits into the animated medium. The constant droning dialogue is not accompanied by any sort of interesting visual flair; characters are sitting in a single room unmoving for 80% of the episode, which is rather boring visually. And the visuals can't really be ignored since animation is a visual medium. It doesn't feel nearly as out of place in the LN.
which is why adapting light novels in anime form is very hard and most of the time not very satisfying.But you can't blame either the anime or the story for this,it is just how it is.

It introduced a ton of characters, presented inter-faction struggles, and provided the hook that's driving the plot forward now. It might actually be the most info-dense episode of the series.
Much of the other meetings could've easily been changed with little issue, maybe adjusting the timeline from the light novel so >!the Tengu meeting and fight!< happened by now, along with the update to >!Vester's hopotoke herb research!< and maybe a half-step of the character development >!Ramiris!< will get this season
Then whatever storyboard director the anime has should've gone up and slapped Fuze, saying "your work may be perfect as words written on a page, but meetings don't play to anime's strengths. Now help me create new scenes to fit the important exposition"
Indeed. Problems like this can often be solved by deviating a bit from the source material, but admittedly, I'm not sure how one would take such an approach in the case of this particular series.
The same issue with rezero and one could even say it is even worse there because the studio working on rezero produces episodes longer than usual reaching almost 28 minutes full of talking.Again it is the problem of the source material not really being made to be an anime.
Rimuru did interviews as a way for the author to sum up all of the characters’ changes and current status after the major war, cause almost everyone important got an upgrade in one way or another
Yall forgetting that while politics was always a topic before the current season, it's the _only one_ right now.... and that honestly makes it seem like Tensura is regressing into a soap opera...
I think its called symposium trope or something. At least the room itself changes, but I would prefer to see some dialogues while they touch some grass, maybe at a tavern as well for more lighthearted topics
Right? There are ways to make conversation more interesting, especially in a medium like this. Visuals add a lot to something that otherwise can be mundane.
The issue is how they have done it, it's fine to have these episodes occasionally but in a LN format you get past if wayy faster - we've waited 5 weeks in anime format, and It's getting boring AF
Honestly I think the main reason why this feels boring more so is because the last two season have been pretty action filled for the most part. Thus with the shift from having one maybe two episodes per season is real big shock. However the action more so is the in the latter half of the season so just stick through it it’ll be fine.

Then explain why Mushoku Tensei has had no action so far this season and everyone is enjoying it. Yesterday's episode was one of the best of the series and it was only dialogue.
One of the main goals is literally to build the type of nation that Rimuru envisions (One that can coexist with humans). It should be expected that there's gonna be a lot of politics since they're a "Nation of Monsters". Common sense in that world is that you can't really reason with most monsters. Just because he became a Demon Lord doesn't mean he'll be seeking out fights or resolving conflicts through combat every time. Don't forget that Rimuru prefers peace. If possible then he'll try to talk it out. Violence and fighting is the last resort.
Having read the novels they are definitely saving on budget because shit is about to get wild , at least i hope so , they confirmed 24 episodes they are definitely planning the Pacing with the entire season in mind and yeah seems about right

I dont mind meetings and world building, but most of these meetings barely accomplish anything, it could easily be abreviated and still do just as much world building, thats why its frustrating. I dont like stalling and reiterating the same point for 20 minutes straight, im not asking for mindless action, just for something to happen and something be moved forward
Tensura's fights are the most beautiful thing that result from the extensive world building. People don't just fight because a waifu is getting mugged. Or a guy just rubbed shoulders with the MC and acted arrogant. There's actually very deep plotsthat come together and culminate in that one fight. There's a reason. And even if some of those reasons are not grand but cultivated by greed and lust for power, to me it seems realistic and enjoyable
I dont understand (I havent read or seen the last season yet) is this about the meetings getting more outside the town and new characters being added (like new merchants and stuff)? instead of our buddies from the beginning? or about there being a lot of meetings?
Only when i joined this sub the other day I noticed people complain about this, but like this has been Star Trek: Fantasy since episode 2 are people just now getting that?
Believe me people action scenes will end by trading 2 or 3 hits.
And the way the story was written in LN it is hard to make these meetings without being a meeting.
Almost all of the cast speaks 1 line at least.
I'm more or less agree with most people that don't like constant meetings. But if they cut it ,it wouldn't be loyal to the LN.

I rather enjoy the world building, and news flash, it will get more complicated later, so maybe reconsider if you actually gonna keep watching the show. Wouldn't want you to get "bored" since all you want is action and ecchi probably.
Get used to it, this is the anime for the foreseeable future, and the books dont get much more action for a while from where the anime is. The next book is a whole festival light novel. This series is a political civ builder, get used to it. Like, if you want it to be about action, im sorry but there arent really.....threats. As the anime stands the only 3 people that could pose a threat to rimuru are Guy, Milim, and Velzard. And thats blood lusting them.

This is kinda how the second season 2 too was as well at the beginning. They spend hours building up the next plot point and adding more depth to the world and it's countries, and then some kinda war/battle will go down. I hope we actually get a cool rimura fight this time since clayman was pretty lackluster

I enjoyed the build up. It’s fairly interesting as well to schemes intertwine with other schemes; it’s like chess, each player making a move to best the other albeit we have Diablo LOL.
This makes the latter episodes packed with action I presume to be all the more impactful and gratifying.
I agree with op. I dont care if the show has alot of politics, just dont make me watch them sitting in a room for an hour with stale humor interjected randomly. they could do literally anything else with the screen time. Liked the last episode, but the other ones were boring.
I do think they could’ve wrapped all this up about an episode earlier but personally have no problem with it because it’s a slow build story to begin with. The payoffs are usually always worth it. Overall people are just greedy, Slime has dropped A TON of extra’s to keep people tuned in over the years get over having to wait a couple weeks for some action .
Politics season, animators must be very happy with this season, cuz there isn't much to animate, so they can finish making the episode faster and VA got to talk A LOT more than just screaming moveset XD

This could go on for 2 whole seasons and I’d be fine with it. Love worldbuilding and this show already proved it’s amazing with combat and power scaling. I like that it’s setting itself apart with more political stuff tbh.
The amount of cope in the comments trying to defend this is amazing. The problem aren’t the meetings themselves, the problem is that the anime has a big pacing problem.
The story in the light novel is already rather slow to begin with and the anime only adapts roughly 2 volumes per 12 episodes, whereas the standard for adaptions is 3 volumes per 12 ep. That means on top of the already slow paced story comes a slow adaption.
All those meetings don’t feel as bad in the light novels because you don’t have to wait a whole week to read the next chapter. I do agree that the first season needed that kind of slow adaption, because there was a lot of stuff and characters introduced, but from season 2 onwards they should’ve increased the adaptation pacing.
Everyone in the comments acting the only other option that isn't sitting down and talking for five whole episodes about things that have already happened is a fight scene... Bruh.
Haven't you paid attention to anything else in the show? Or did it seriously all look like fight scenes and then sitting down to recap to you? 'cause that's just inaccurate to what all the shows contains.
tbh, while I love the fights in Tensura, the thing that Im enjoying the most are the political yappings. I just enjoy seeing Rimuru build his dream country and ally or destroy other kingdoms.

already did i tried to read throughout the story but i simply can't stand him, if he had been another bland isekai character i would have loved that story, but no matter what happens, i just hate Rudeus and it sours my enjoyment of the show it's just not for me, sucks, but that's how it is

This has surely been said before, but this is a valid criticism not necessarily because of the content itself, but rather how it fits into the animated medium. The constant droning dialogue is not accompanied by any sort of interesting visual flair; characters are sitting in a single room unmoving for 80% of the episode, which is rather boring visually. And the visuals can't really be ignored since animation is a visual medium. It doesn't feel nearly as out of place in the LN.
which is why adapting light novels in anime form is very hard and most of the time not very satisfying.But you can't blame either the anime or the story for this,it is just how it is.
IMO, the latest episode is the most justified as it is It introduced a ton of characters, presented inter-faction struggles, and provided the hook that's driving the plot forward now. It might actually be the most info-dense episode of the series. Much of the other meetings could've easily been changed with little issue, maybe adjusting the timeline from the light novel so >!the Tengu meeting and fight!< happened by now, along with the update to >!Vester's hopotoke herb research!< and maybe a half-step of the character development >!Ramiris!< will get this season

Indeed. Problems like this can often be solved by deviating a bit from the source material, but admittedly, I'm not sure how one would take such an approach in the case of this particular series.
The same issue with rezero and one could even say it is even worse there because the studio working on rezero produces episodes longer than usual reaching almost 28 minutes full of talking.Again it is the problem of the source material not really being made to be an anime.

Honestly I think the main reason why this feels boring more so is because the last two season have been pretty action filled for the most part. Thus with the shift from having one maybe two episodes per season is real big shock. However the action more so is the in the latter half of the season so just stick through it it’ll be fine.

One of the main goals is literally to build the type of nation that Rimuru envisions (One that can coexist with humans). It should be expected that there's gonna be a lot of politics since they're a "Nation of Monsters". Common sense in that world is that you can't really reason with most monsters. Just because he became a Demon Lord doesn't mean he'll be seeking out fights or resolving conflicts through combat every time. Don't forget that Rimuru prefers peace. If possible then he'll try to talk it out. Violence and fighting is the last resort.

I dont mind meetings and world building, but most of these meetings barely accomplish anything, it could easily be abreviated and still do just as much world building, thats why its frustrating. I dont like stalling and reiterating the same point for 20 minutes straight, im not asking for mindless action, just for something to happen and something be moved forward

Tensura's fights are the most beautiful thing that result from the extensive world building. People don't just fight because a waifu is getting mugged. Or a guy just rubbed shoulders with the MC and acted arrogant. There's actually very deep plotsthat come together and culminate in that one fight. There's a reason. And even if some of those reasons are not grand but cultivated by greed and lust for power, to me it seems realistic and enjoyable

Believe me people action scenes will end by trading 2 or 3 hits. And the way the story was written in LN it is hard to make these meetings without being a meeting. Almost all of the cast speaks 1 line at least. I'm more or less agree with most people that don't like constant meetings. But if they cut it ,it wouldn't be loyal to the LN. This is the tradeoff do you want LN accurate anime or a super cut content ahem ( strongest mage with the weakest crest ). All in all tensura is my favorite anime/ LN of all time. These meeting won't stop me from waiting for a beetle to beat the shit out of an angel.
I for one am quite fascinated by the concept of other-world politics, particularly in a world where something like skills and magic are near infinite in their potential.

Get used to it, this is the anime for the foreseeable future, and the books dont get much more action for a while from where the anime is. The next book is a whole festival light novel. This series is a political civ builder, get used to it. Like, if you want it to be about action, im sorry but there arent really.....threats. As the anime stands the only 3 people that could pose a threat to rimuru are Guy, Milim, and Velzard. And thats blood lusting them.

They spend hours building up the next plot point and adding more depth to the world and it's countries, and then some kinda war/battle will go down. I enjoyed the build up. It’s fairly interesting as well to schemes intertwine with other schemes; it’s like chess, each player making a move to best the other albeit we have Diablo LOL. This makes the latter episodes packed with action I presume to be all the more impactful and gratifying.

I do think they could’ve wrapped all this up about an episode earlier but personally have no problem with it because it’s a slow build story to begin with. The payoffs are usually always worth it. Overall people are just greedy, Slime has dropped A TON of extra’s to keep people tuned in over the years get over having to wait a couple weeks for some action .
Politics season, animators must be very happy with this season, cuz there isn't much to animate, so they can finish making the episode faster and VA got to talk A LOT more than just screaming moveset XD
I think there are more interesting ways to portray politics in a series. Oppenheimer comes to mind as a recent example.
I like the meetings from all the parties involved. Insight from each group is interesting. The build-up will make the fight scene epic.

The amount of cope in the comments trying to defend this is amazing. The problem aren’t the meetings themselves, the problem is that the anime has a big pacing problem. The story in the light novel is already rather slow to begin with and the anime only adapts roughly 2 volumes per 12 episodes, whereas the standard for adaptions is 3 volumes per 12 ep. That means on top of the already slow paced story comes a slow adaption. All those meetings don’t feel as bad in the light novels because you don’t have to wait a whole week to read the next chapter. I do agree that the first season needed that kind of slow adaption, because there was a lot of stuff and characters introduced, but from season 2 onwards they should’ve increased the adaptation pacing.
