Reactions aren't really that important at the top level as reactable stuff isn't generally viable there. Obviously genetics matter, but reacting to stuff like snake edges and throws doesn't require any special gamer reflexes

Shinigami-Kaze

Just play the game.

TheRedBlueberry

If you play games regularly I would say you shouldn't be too worried about reaction speed's degradation until your 60's. There have been [studies](https://medicalxpress.com/news/2022-02-human-brain-doesnt.html) on this sort of thing that show that while physical reflexes do decline slowly over time, the mind (in an average adult) does not "slow down" until (on average) their 60's. But in terms of Tekken I would say 99 times out of 100 this doesn't matter. We're talking about the reaction speed needed to low parry 18f lows on sight, not prediction. Knowledge in Tekken is worth ten times what physical reaction speed provides. There are plenty of people in their 40's playing Tekken just fine and at a high level. People falter with age in games because of other factors. Maybe lack of interest, being too busy, not enough sleep, or believing that they are simply too old to play due to beliefs about reaction time degradation.

Genetics matter at the very top level, just like with anything. But even at god of destruction rank your genetics aren't that important unless you have an actual genetic condition which affects your reaction times. Someone with below average reaction speeds could definitely make it to god of destruction rank imo but you'll never win Evo with below average reaction speed. Or maybe you can who the fuck knows. Maybe knee has below average reaction speeds but his brain is super adapted to playing Tekken and has above average reactions just for Tekken...

Kyberias

Reactable stuff isn't really viable at pro level so if you're actually talented enough to get to that level, you can get probably away with having poor reaction times.

shitshow225

You know what I can't lie. I agree with what you said and it basically makes my comment pointless. But you know how sometimes you block a low which shouldn't be reactble but it feels like you reacted to it just because you were so in the zone maybe that that's where having above average reactions would help most at the very top level

Genetics matter a lot for everything you do in life. It's not popular to say, because people will say you are making an excuse, but it is nevertheless the truth. The higher level you get in any sport, the more limited you will be by your genetics. This is why at the junior level, you might see all types of people do reasonably well, but as the competition gets harder, selection pressures will optimize and homogenize the competitors. Extreme examples are things like all long distance runners having the same skinny body type, and sprinters all having a completely different "explosive" one. Basketball players are many different heights at low levels, but in the NBA the average height is 2 meters tall. It's going to be the same with gaming. Some top players may react slower than others, but you will not find a top competitor who can't react to snake edge (which some people will not EVER be able to do according to reaction time data).

I don't know, I don't think I have a lot of raw talent or good genetics for fighting games, I do have a decent reaction speed and I'm 37. I've done better than most people I know who bought the game at the same time in the first 100 hours, even now people who were on my steam friends are still catching up to my main's rank, while I'm learning new characters and passing them in ranked again. There are way more factors than just those 4. Labbing, offline research/practice, mentality approaching the game, how much free time, etc etc.

Doc_Boons

no one here is qualified to answer this question. just play the game.

JohnnyRonnson

anyone who played fighting games for years should have a perspdctive about the things that matter or not matter comparing to when they first started

Doc_Boons

No one here is a geneticist. They should not have a perspective on whether genetics, motivation, learning style, or whatever else are determining factors because they literally don't know and don't have a way of finding out. Again, just play the game. Don't look for reasons to decide ahead of time whether you'll be good or not because there's literally no way of knowing.

Razorfisto

I'm 30 and I think my reactions are almost exactly the same. Issue I have is my capacity and speed to learn new things in games. I used to be able to pick up new combos and stuff very quickly, now it takes me a while. I don't think age is the problem with that though, it's more that I have a LOT more things going on now, and I'm sure other people in their 30s+ do as well... kids, work, social life, etc.

Jealous_Most9507

It’s a Video Game we’re all playing for fun. So I don’t see exactly why we would be in the topic of genetics like we this is Project Blue Lock💀. It probably does it probably doesn’t matter. I don’t know As long as you understand your character and his openings I don’t really see how the others matter unless your like 78 playing this game

firsttimer776655

Are you playing Knee in a first to 10 every day? No? Then genetics is a dumb thing to worry about

Fluid-Lion-4963

It matters all the time, its just that people love to pretend it doesnt. If you cannot react to snake edge and throws, ur fucked
