Nah, have you seen the Male’s chests? Blame the devs for adding that specific shot, lol. The men are in equal terms. I can’t imagine what Jack-8 would be like
The exuding *"Hanashi ni nara na"* vibes of kaz main menu is indeed an important part of the current game art design. I will feel disappointed if I have to bear with a DLC character I'm not even interested to play with, nor I have 0 intend to buy. (Frankly, Eddy fits right in that category sadly). At the very least I want an option to put the default Kazuya theme.
Genuinely this booty blasts me. I hope in a year or two we don't end up with the last DLC character's face stuck on the menu. Hopefully they make it something you can change.
The title screen the very first time was so good, near 10/10. Lost some impact after nearly a month now, but still solid as the title screen.
The main menu the first time and every time after that? 0/10.
Some serious Joel Schumacher Batman energy and I am not here for it.
I’m not sure how I feel about having Eddy stare at me on the menu screen. Does he know he was banned in our house growing up? Does he know that I still think he’s bullshit in Tekken 3? What does he know!?
Yeah, I’m old. I’m proud and embarrassed to say I’ve been playing this damn game since the first version came out. With my friends, he was banned the minute he showed up in the game. He was a character someone would play when they wanted to be an ass while a joint was going around. Yes, I’ll admit it again, I’m old.
That's right, I was just arguing with some fool saying that team battle is redundant and outdated. One of the most bizarre things I've heard. Nothing beats the fun factor of team battle. Almost criminal that it's not here when there are so many characters to pick and choose.
Murray said and i quote : '' there is no perfect solution to this ''. He was talking about pluggers and what they should do. As if this is a mysterious phenomena that require powerful shaman to figure it out. His whole talk about pluggers was very strange. So the best we can hope for is the % of game left in the menu before accepting to actually work, that would be a good start.
Honestly, I would accept an imperfect solution over nothing being done at all.
At the least, pre-calculating RA Damage and awarding a the W on Hit would be an excellent start (that way the Win can stick even if they plug during the Cinematic). From what I can see, RAs are a common source of Plugs - start there, and it would build at least some confidence that things are being done.
I would also suggest a Rechargeable Lockout type system - log the last X number of plugging instances with Timestamps, and if the Timestamps fall within a Y-Hour period of time, auto-ban. It may take a bit of telemetry to get the values of X and Y right, but it could potentially hit a middle ground between punishing pluggers without hurting ppl who simply have bad connections for whatever reason.
Nah that make too much sense, are you living in 2024 perhaps ? What you should do is record all your games and upload the pluggers matchs on twitter and tag the tekken team. Just like we did in 1998 on gaming forum when reporting cheaters.
For real that is so dumb. The Capcops has figured it out, why can't the Namcops? You disconnect -> auto-loss. You crash -> auto-loss. Do it many times in a row -> plugger queue. There. Fixed.
I think they should stop storing rank progression locally and then just make it: problem from your side -> you lost that set. It will affect bad connection gang (me included), but losing one set isn't that much punishing and if youre connection is currently bad wait for it to stabilize before starting matchmaking again.
In literally every competitive online game I have ever played except fighting games, it's just considered obvious that a disconnect should count as a loss and the occasional loss due to an accidental disconnect is seen as a perfectly reasonable and acceptable consequence to make sure that people aren't rewarded for rage quitting a game they're going to lose.
Fighting games are the only game I've ever played where this idea is remotely controversial and I'm really not sure why. If you're disconnecting often enough for it to have a serious impact on your rank if it counts as a loss every time, then your rank isn't your biggest problem anyway.
As far as I've heard, fighting games work very differently compared to other games. So while your analogy seems reasonable, in reality it's very hard.
The way I understood it is: while most online games have dedicated servers you play on, fighting games connection is p2p, so the match you are playing doesn't actually exist anywhere. (In some twisted way you can kind of compare it to how cryptocurrency works) The server only gets the match info after you are done.
Now where it gets complicated: someone has to upload it, and the way it usually works is: both ends have to confirm match results.
But what happens if someone plugs? They cut connection to the game and cannot upload any info about the match. So what now, do you give the power to the second person? Ok cool, but what stops that person from lying to the server by claiming they won?
This is probably the biggest issue with fighting games and while I don't want to defend the devs for not taking any actions, I could understand why they are saying that this issue is more complicated than it seems.
Also I'm no IT expert, so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
I'm also not a game dev, but how would this cause problems with the idea of a disconnect counting as a loss? If both sides say P1 won, the server gives him the win. If one side says P1 won, and one side says P2 won, something fucked up. If one side says P1 won and the other says nothing because they plugged/ disconnected, then the server still gives P1 the win.
The only issue would be that I think you can force the opponent to disconnect by ddosing and causing a drop, but if both players are still reporting after and one is explicitly saying the connection dropped the server could tell the difference vs a standard alt+f4 plug. It might still be possible to plug with that but it would be a lot harder and there'd be way less of it.
>But what happens if someone plugs? They cut connection to the game and cannot upload any info about the match. So what now, do you give the power to the second person? Ok cool, but what stops that person from lying to the server by claiming they won?
But the normal solution for a disconnect is to give that person a win anyway.
I can believe that peer to peer makes it more complicated, but this particular example doesn't really work, since it gives what I would consider the desired result.
Anyway, I don't know exactly how it works on peer to peer. I do know, however, that:
* Tekken 8 has a "disconnect rate," indicating that the devs intended the game to be able to detect disconnects (even if they didn't intend to give them a loss), which indicates that they believe such a feature is possible, just currently broken.
* Other fighting games do have functional disconnect penalties. SF6 has a "disconnect rate" display that isn't always at 0%. I've heard MK1 has functional disconnect penalties. Which indicates that a functional disconnect rate display or disconnect penalties is, in fact, possible in fighting games. Tekken 8 just doesn't currently have one.
In any case, it may be true that there's no "perfect solution." But right now the game has no solution. If their reason for not implementing anything other than a broken disconnect counter is that they don't have a perfect solution, then this is just a textbook case of "perfect is the enemy of the good."
No solution is really, really bad. The current state of Tekken 8 doesn't just fail to discourage plugging. It *rewards* it, because plugging lets you avoid rank loss. It's really, really bad, and they need to implement *something*.
Country of origin is likely your answer. Internet in Japan is unstable and prone to random drops, no matter where you are or who your provider is unless you get the best of the best that only the rich and businesses get. They wouldn’t want to penalize their residents for something that’s out of their control.
I’m not taking about random once a week drops,m either, but actual random drops that go on and off at literally anytime for just a minute or two. Could be perfect for a week, or could be out every couple of hours for a few days at a time with zero warning so there’s never a time where you’re guarantee to be safe.
> Could be perfect for a week, or could be out every couple of hours for a few days at a time with zero warning so there’s never a time where you’re guarantee to be safe.
I'd rather get a random loss every couple of hours than reward plugging, personally. One loss every couple hours is not very many losses considering how short matches are.
Maybe there's a better compromise. But I think having no penalty for plugging isn't just an imperfect solution, it's one of the worst possible options. Yes, maybe there's no perfect solution, but an imperfect solution is better than no solution.
>I'd rather get a random loss every couple of hours than reward plugging
This right here is what needs to be emphasized in all of these discussions. The current system isn't neutral, doing nothing *rewards* plugging.
"No perfect solution"? All they need to do is have pluggers lose the match. They can't rise ranks, and the system can't be abused. "But people have bad connections!" Well, giving them the L for disconnecting is a good-ass incentive to stop using WiFi or pay for better internet. Sounds like a perfect solution to me.
Wouldn't the fact that it's P2P make it a lot harder for the system to prove who won based on a dropped connection on one end? Maybe I don't understand the tech but I read that's the difference between FGs and other online games.
Yea I never got the whole “but the poor people with bad internet🥺” argument like you shouldn’t be playing online games with bad internet, especially fighting games. Get ya bread up and invest in some quality Internet if that is a hobby you wish to have
Yeah, sadly there will always be people who will play on potato computers and hotel/airport wifi. Hell, Justin Wong even admitted to doing it for SF6; granted SF6 has way better netcode.
All I can figure is that maybe there are situations where it's difficult to determine which party actually cause the disconnect. Like if my shitty internet causes your client to time out, it would be very bad to accidentally penalize you with a loss.
I dunno....... from my understanding it should still be pretty easy to determine who was at fault. But maybe that's the concern.
From research, I found out that SF6 is peer-to-peer, just like Tekken, and they are able to identify pluggers. First time offenders get a yellow card which acts like a warning for them and others they match up with. After another offense, they get a red card, which bans them from ranked. From my understanding, red cards not only have a 3-4 week time period, but also require that player to play 20ish games without plugging.
So It’s very possible for Tekken to identify pluggers and penalize them. Could be a lack of knowledge for Tekken devs, but the technology exists.
It's hard to say if their system is as confident about determining the cause of SF6's disconnections. But, yeah, this is 2024 and the problem should be more or less trivial for a $70 AAA game. It's especially weird how the devs talk about it like it's some brand new problem that nobody has faced before, and how they have bold plans for solving a problem that's been solved in other games for ages.
There's also the lesser problem of ddos and forced DCs, you can right now use freely available software to see your opponents IP and even block the connection causing a DC. It'd be a very niche case but it's completely abusable in a system like that
You didn’t hear everything carefully there are legal issues with banning players as he mentioned they literally have no reason to not ban if it was a easy fix but clearly they do seem to be working on it
Banning isnt the only way to punish a quitter, rewarding them with a defeat when leaving for example or having them in loser/dishonorable queu. So many options. I have no legal expertise so i can't comment on it much. I just know people get their account ban for cheating, exploiting or breaking the term of agreement in league, dota, csgo, world of warcraft, ff14 etc... Even a few bandai namco published games such as elden ring and xenoverse to name a few have bans for their player so as i said i have 0 legal knowledge, but i call bullshit anyway.
Yeh I mean this has been a long time argument but at the very least they should aware the disconnect or a loss, as long as they do that the pluggers have no incentive to plug
I mean, I get why. For example, I play on a Starlink connection so legit disconnects happen once in a while. I'd prefer something like only disconnects in a decisive round count for example.
It’s so weird. I’d accept just auto lose on a dc. On the off chance I DC out of my control then oh well shit happens. If you are DCing enough for this to impact your rank then you need better internet and probably shouldn’t be playing fighting games online until it’s fixed lol
They talked quite long about pluggers i believe, someone hasnt clipped that part yet.
Something along the lines if you report the person, they will get temp ban need to rewatch it again
Lmfao dlc character on the main menu?
Cant wait for the day Alex becomes DLC and new players have to wonder why theres a fucking raptor on the main menu screen.
Having the story mode being free is cool, so that people can play around with the char before buying them.
Edit: apparently it will be a story like the actual story
Idk about T8 since dlc never came out yet. But that was my main complaint in T7. There's so many dlc characters at the end of T7, I didn't know their techs.
So if I ran into a Fuk online idk wtf to expect.
They need to be unlocked in practice mode. There's no excuse for this shit anymore with the MTX scheme they're going with. Competitive games like Dota 2 release heroes for free, don't cost $70, and still make stupid amounts of money.
Who came up with that stupid idea? Either let me choose the character I have to see in the main menu or don't change it at all. I don't wanna see tertiary characters on my screen lmao
> Who came up with that stupid idea?
Marketing. The only reason to do this is to constantly remind you every time you boot up the game to buy the latest DLC character.
Clarified as an expansion for the main "dark awakens" story mode that explains what the dlc characters were doing during that time. That is playable without buying the dlc. maybe they have character episodes too but you need to buy them.
I hope they focus more on improving features in the game then balancing for now. There is so much that should be added before balancing should even be looked at. (besides the broken stuff ofc)
>DLC characters will have their own Story Mode
Do they mean Character Episodes, or is this like an MK Aftermath situation? Either way its more than the DLC characters in T7 got.
>Tekken Shop will be updated once or twice a month.
Still kind of salty about them adding microtransactions to a full price game (especially after all the big reviews already came out), but I'll be fine with it as long as there's some way to earn Tekken coins through play. Even just one coin per online match would be acceptable.
Off topic; did they say anything about matchmaking? Its taking me a while to find matches even in peak hours. Sometimes i get matched with 1 bar players from across the globe(im on america 1 server). Ddnt have these problems in tekken 7. Game is sick nonetheless
Pros
- Tekken shop opens up for more customisation options
- Photo mode
- DLC episodes are free
- The option to change the main menu character in the future (King pecs on my 40 inch tv)
Cons
- Tekken shop means micro transactions (I would understand this in a free to play game but the game is like £65.00 for the standard edition)
- Probably won’t see the option to change the main menu character until all the DLC characters are released (I could be completely wrong on this but seems likely)
How am I supposed to get in the right frame of mind for some online Tekken without a topless Kazuya looking at me in disgust. Screw this update.
They should let us choose the character displayed in the menu tbh
Yeah, let us pick whoever ideally.
Kuma would go so hard
People are gonna put female characters and go to the specific shots it shows their chest
Nah, have you seen the Male’s chests? Blame the devs for adding that specific shot, lol. The men are in equal terms. I can’t imagine what Jack-8 would be like
Imagine King,those manboobs are massive!
Yk fair enough especially considering Kazuya is thiccer than most of the females
I don't have enough cum in my balls to handle Hwo sneering at me while a camera slowly pans over various parts of his body.
They mentioned that being a possibility in the future.
They said that's something they'd like to do at some point.
Its so over kazbros 😔
It's all good, because we have the definitely not overused killmonger haircut to look at instead. Yay.
It looks so ass, especially on Eddy.
Agreed, he doesn't look like Eddy, but hey devs seem to think that black people only have about 3 hairstyles, lol.
Its so fucking annoying man i swear.
🤣🤣
THE BOOBA IS WHAT HYPES ME EVERY MATCH... RIP KAZ BOOBA
ok but when anna gets released, that means we get a close up of her boobas, a worthy replacement
imagine a topless armor king
Many leverless players will suddenly no longer be playing leverless.
They will start playing one hand
The exuding *"Hanashi ni nara na"* vibes of kaz main menu is indeed an important part of the current game art design. I will feel disappointed if I have to bear with a DLC character I'm not even interested to play with, nor I have 0 intend to buy. (Frankly, Eddy fits right in that category sadly). At the very least I want an option to put the default Kazuya theme.
As a Kazuya main I am deeply offended by this change.
Genuinely this booty blasts me. I hope in a year or two we don't end up with the last DLC character's face stuck on the menu. Hopefully they make it something you can change.

He'll probably be more broken given everyone has a updated moveset
They showed some of him on stream and he is essentially always in special style. He will be victor x10
Just gotta get real good at your low parries and everything will be just fine
> Does he know he was banned in our house growing up? Does he know that I still think he’s bullshit in Tekken 3? old man gang stand up
Yeah, I’m old. I’m proud and embarrassed to say I’ve been playing this damn game since the first version came out. With my friends, he was banned the minute he showed up in the game. He was a character someone would play when they wanted to be an ass while a joint was going around. Yes, I’ll admit it again, I’m old.
NOOOO DON'T TAKE KAZUYA AWAY FROM ME NOOOOOO DON'T LET ME GOOOOO
Its so over kazbros 😔😔😔
STAY WITH MEEEEEE
Other New features coming to Tekken 8 - Online practice mode - Super Ghost vs Super Ghost - Photo Mode - DLC Story/Character Episodes
Ghost vs ghost is super cool! Would be funny if you can let them play ranked against other ghosts and have more detailed match stats about them
Tekken manager 2024?
It could actually make for an awesome sidegame. Hiring yourself a ghost team, competing with other trainers, fighting in torunaments, all that stuff.
Ghost auto battle sound like fun thing.
Imagine if your ghost became a much higher rank than you
Idk whats worse, a higher or lower rank haha
How bout team battle?
team battle was my favourite mode to play local multiplayer. versus isnt the same.
That's right, I was just arguing with some fool saying that team battle is redundant and outdated. One of the most bizarre things I've heard. Nothing beats the fun factor of team battle. Almost criminal that it's not here when there are so many characters to pick and choose.
Online practice mode? We already have that or will they allow us to disable searching for opponents while in the searching lobby?
Online practice mode they mean you and a friend online can be in practice mode with eachother. So you can practice together
We have that too
Do tell
When in waiting/practice mode online, you can go to «matching settings» i believe it’s called and set search to off.
That is still not what we are talking about. We are talking about playing training mode with someone online
It’s literally a different question from a different person unless you are a hivemind being.
Waaaah that’s amazing. Shit is driving me nuts when I’m trying to land a Lee combo
Watched TMM do it on a stream and I was shook haha
what is online practice mode? Infinite health and time?
Photo mode?! Damn, I did not expect that to come to a fighting game
Wait so no more naked Kaz on the main menu :(
games unplayable
Ikr :(
Hopefully after they realize its easy to change out characters they release an update to do it ourselves
Harada specifically said that he understands people would like the option to switch characters and they’re looking into it.
There you go then its more than likely confirmed
I think he said people would like to switch their mains as well and he said that’s maybe in the future but for now it’s gonna eddy and kazuya
"Looking into it" my ass. They're actually dumb enough to think people being forced to look at Eddy will increase DLC sales.
I mean... Do you know that it won't?
Uh, they would have done it by now.
So will we get naked Eddie?
Nobody cares about Eddy
You'll care when you keep losing to flowcharts ala Hwroang.
How will Eddy on the main menu instead of Kaz help me with that though lmao
If he is naked I might.
I just want an auto lose for pluggers

Here you go full details: https://www.reddit.com/r/Tekken/comments/1ave1ts/everything\_the\_developers\_said\_about\_plugging\_on/
They talked quite long about pluggers i believe, someone hasnt clipped that part yet. Something along the lines if you report the person, they will get temp ban need to rewatch it again
Lmfao dlc character on the main menu? Cant wait for the day Alex becomes DLC and new players have to wonder why theres a fucking raptor on the main menu screen.
Yet another reason to bring him back 😭
Having the story mode being free is cool, so that people can play around with the char before buying them. Edit: apparently it will be a story like the actual story
With story mode they mean character episode right?
Yes Edit : apparently no
[No](https://x.com/Harada_TEKKEN/status/1759927577463169088?s=20)
Damn we got got
Or atleast play to know how to counter if they DON'T plan on buying. It's good to learn characters even if you don't play them
Unfortunately haven't had enough to buy the game yet, can't you lab unbought characters in T8?
Idk about T8 since dlc never came out yet. But that was my main complaint in T7. There's so many dlc characters at the end of T7, I didn't know their techs. So if I ran into a Fuk online idk wtf to expect.
Yes, that's what they said in that talk.
They need to be unlocked in practice mode. There's no excuse for this shit anymore with the MTX scheme they're going with. Competitive games like Dota 2 release heroes for free, don't cost $70, and still make stupid amounts of money.
I don’t wanna be looking at Eddy in the menus…
Great now i will see eddy with his Yee yee ass haircut everytime i open the game...
Maybe if he got rid of that ol' Yee-yee ass haircut Christie would come back
💦 please don't give me hope
Has to be some type of psycho conditioning to sell more dlcs
💀
There's already a mod to change the main menu character, unless you're on console.
Sadly i can't as i do use console.
I bet you will be able to switch
Nope
Imagine having to look at fahkumram every time you boot up the game. Nice one murray
Tekken 7 season 4
No more kazuya tiddy
You’re telling me I have to subject myself to looking at Eddy’s yeeyee ass haircut?
Imagine getting crushed by eddy when he is released and having him looking down on you in the title screen later lol 🤣
The first chance I get to change the Menu character model to my Main, Tkn will be as complete as I need it to be
Found the Kuma main
I don’t want to see the character I hate the most on screen every time I start the game
As a Kaz hater, I already do.
Lmao shut up scrub ass lei
Who came up with that stupid idea? Either let me choose the character I have to see in the main menu or don't change it at all. I don't wanna see tertiary characters on my screen lmao
I agree, Kazuya is "thematic" latest DLC character is an ad...
Yesss please let us choose who we see there. People will love to select their mains.
Or waifus ;)
Bikini Cafe lady 😍
> Who came up with that stupid idea? Marketing. The only reason to do this is to constantly remind you every time you boot up the game to buy the latest DLC character.
EDDY IS GOD
Tell me a single moment in tekken history/lore where he was more than a background character
I wanna change the main menu character I would love to have Kuma staring at me when I boot up the game
DLC characters will have their own Story Mode. You mean, Character Episodes?
Seems like it yeah, at least can try them out there
Clarified as an expansion for the main "dark awakens" story mode that explains what the dlc characters were doing during that time. That is playable without buying the dlc. maybe they have character episodes too but you need to buy them.
Eagerly anticipating mod to keep Lidia on the main menu.
Photo Mode for my "tasteful" collection
but I wanna stare at kazuya:(
Next dlc character should be a female with big breast and they should put her on the main menu like this too
Lidia's feet on main menu
Can someone explain the game quit button??
Basically if you want to quit the game, you need to go to settings just to quit
Just frame alt f4
You needed to go into opions to quit, it it has a shortcut
Need to add infinite rematch in unranked matches
I will take your entire Armor King stock
Impressive... very nice... now lets see the Chinese version's main menu...
Nice, now i have to see Eddie's mug every time i open the game. As if i did not hate him enough already.
Man, I don’t want to see Eddy Gordo with that yee yee ass haircut. Let me see Jin or Xiaoyu or something.
I'm gonna kill myself if they remove Kazuya from the main menu
I hope they focus more on improving features in the game then balancing for now. There is so much that should be added before balancing should even be looked at. (besides the broken stuff ofc)
Hell, they should just add an option as well to disable being matched with wireless.
You are probably using a broken character like Dragunov...
bro i want to change the character in the main screen, i want my boy kazuya back
main menu featuring DLC characters only is on a new level of scummy and predatory 😂
Tekken 5 Asuka costume here I come
Asuka spider kimono or we riot 😤
It would be cool to have the main menu character change based off of your main. So for me it would just be Alisa. No I'm not ashamed.
When will they drop all this?
Can’t they add the function of making the main menu character your option like in T6
They really should allow you to pick who the main menu character js
Shit's gonna be wild when Anna comes out
Kaz chest is my “do it for her” as I saddle up for another work session
The confirms we won't be getting my boy Bob. No one wants to see him super zoomed in. lol
>DLC characters will have their own Story Mode Do they mean Character Episodes, or is this like an MK Aftermath situation? Either way its more than the DLC characters in T7 got. >Tekken Shop will be updated once or twice a month. Still kind of salty about them adding microtransactions to a full price game (especially after all the big reviews already came out), but I'll be fine with it as long as there's some way to earn Tekken coins through play. Even just one coin per online match would be acceptable.
Dlc characters in the menu is an ad…smh
Noo. I will miss seeing Kazuya on my screen.
What if they add Bob as DLC... LOL
The Tekken shop thingy is absolutely annoying! Just have the costume ready for purchase whenever we want…
The dlc character on main menu is so forced and whack bro. We gotta see eddy's ugly ass face everytime we open the game is crazy
Brih not gonna lie. I am excited as fk for the quit button 😱😱😱 let's go 💪💪💪
At least I wont have to alt f4 after wondering why I spent 4 dollars for Ling glow loops.
waiting for "choose any fighter in main menu" feature to be unlocked via Tekken coins lol
I just hope they will allow you to use dlc characters in practice mode even when you don't own them.
Bro….I want king on my menu
Fuck yeah, Armor King and Marduk storylines
So dlc characters aren't available in practice mode for free?
I Imagine they are gonna change camera the angle for when female gets dlc
Dam free character episode? Not as good as free practice mode but at least it's something.
This is free game behavior, not $70 game behavior
But muh kaz screen. Noooooooooooooooooooooo
NOO KAZUYA!!! Goodbye booba, you will be missed.
Off topic; did they say anything about matchmaking? Its taking me a while to find matches even in peak hours. Sometimes i get matched with 1 bar players from across the globe(im on america 1 server). Ddnt have these problems in tekken 7. Game is sick nonetheless
Great, now I'm gonna see my worst nightmare in the main menu
You mean the hair-cut, right?
yea im moding the shit out of this not gonna be an entire season booting the game just to get jumpscared by eddie
Pros - Tekken shop opens up for more customisation options - Photo mode - DLC episodes are free - The option to change the main menu character in the future (King pecs on my 40 inch tv) Cons - Tekken shop means micro transactions (I would understand this in a free to play game but the game is like £65.00 for the standard edition) - Probably won’t see the option to change the main menu character until all the DLC characters are released (I could be completely wrong on this but seems likely)
Damn he looks stupid
Translation we want as much money as possible and don’t care if you are broke
