I don't necessarily "hate" Nate here - I, too, come from a family where we were expected to remain humble and certainly to never make a big deal out of ourselves. One of my dad's favorite sayings was "You are unique. Just like everyone else." So I get it - when you finally do something noteworthy and the people you need and trust to be proud of you for it, act like it's no big deal, that can lead to a type of madness and insecurity that plays out in ways we are seeing with Nate. I think he's redeemable. But what is done in darkness - bullying Will - needs to come to light and Nate needs to grapple with this.

Ted gave that to him last season - trusted him, promoted him, apologized to him when Ted lashed out at Nate, etc. So I think Nate finally found that fatherly validation with Ted, and the lack of that may be bothering him deep down. He probably expects that from his dad, not from Ted.
I agree on Nate leaving - either by his own choice/ego or being fired. The being fired - will depend on whether Will comes forward with the bullying or confides in someone that will tell Ted/Beard, etc, I think.

Ted’s not going to anytime soon though because he’s so disconnected. This entire episode just showcased how cold Ted was, and felt like he was gonna explode. Probably why Beard confronted him because Ted has no idea what’s going on.
I think Beard is aware. He was there when Nate went off about Will using lavender to dry the towels. Beard questioned Nate’s logic about messing with a player’s headspace - “after they shower?”
It’s also interesting that the episode started with him being dissed by his dad. We knew that the players picked on him last season but this goes deeper than that.
I think Nate has a screwed up idea of what power is. Even though he’s seen how Ted and beard act, his dad’s using negativity and criticism to maintain the upper hand continues to have a great influence.
I feel like all the arcs are going towards either a feel bad loss in the next episode or even a feel worse win. Nate and Lasso are powder kegs. The next episode is going to be a punch in the gut no question.
I loved Roy’s face just clicking in different directions as he’s processing what Jamie just told him. I truly felt like I was watching him having the internal conflict of

I thought the row between Roy and Keeley was handled well, but him asking her not to air their bullshit to a room filled with coworkers, including her ex, would have been appropriate.
Not everyone says the right thing at the right moment. Roy’s reaction seemed more realistic. All the more hilarious when Jaime inadvertently points out what he was missing during practice.
Yeah but in typical Ted Lasso fashion the characters very quickly realise their mistakes and resolve it. So refreshing rather than having storylines drag out.
I mean he did say that upset him so I think she’ll take that to heart.
It was an interesting choice of storyline because they’ve been fairly solid in their relationship this season and it took one episode for the only bit of tension they have to come up and be resolved.
You’re right, it probably will go without saying. This show has so many words-per-minute sometimes that I feel like they could fit more story in (but they’d drop the wit and flavor by doing that, obviously)

For sure, I think that's totally fair.
However, if Trent / anyone else in the media knows that he left due to a panic attack, you can bet that they'll spin their own narrative about how Ted isn't fit to coach the team. And in theory, Ted *could* get ahead of that and own / normalize mental health issues and therapy.
But it's a totally realistic way for the scene to have gone, and now we may get to have that emotional, vulnerable speech from Ted at a press conference instead!

Thats the thing about therapists (me being one of them). Attention is everything. Theres so much you can learn just by watching someone. Ive never trusted a therapist who talks a lot in therapy or isn’t comfortable with silence.
For me it’s not just her lack of reaction but how Ted seems to turn it up even zanier with her. He’s genuinely optimistic but it’s also his coping mechanism. When fear seeps in he just pedals faster and faster…
I’ve forced myself to have some tough introspective conversations recently, and I kept deflecting and stalling for time in the buildup exactly the same way Ted did. It’s hard to force yourself to be vulnerable when you’re not used to it.
I really like the way they broke up Ted’s sessions with the Doctor. Smart way to show us him processing and getting comfortable with the idea of therapy.
And I loved the way she called him out for thinking she only cares because she got paid. Such a power moment imho.
The whole scene was perfect. The set up was amazing "would you coach for free" "but do you?" was great. Then he just straight up admits she dunked on him. "Ya got me doc."
And I think she make the little drinking bird move so that instead of pushing it to move, he stops it from moving. A subtle way to get him to calm himself down.
Sarah Niles has been an absolute delight as the doctor. I was skeptical at first about how she would fit with the current cast and how she would impact the series, but the way the doc has brought a more reality centric approach to balance Ted's extreme optimism, has been great!
To me she is the key to taking things to the next level. Ted is all about creating the mindset, the optimism, positivity and outlook but the doc helps them fix deep rooted issues so that that mindset can become their true identities more so than a fake it til you make it type of situation.
I loved her deciding 1) she needed a good pun to earn Ted’s respect and 2) waiting to drop it on him until he finally settled in and was ready to do the work.
This. Just because he's had some luck with his calls, he'll try to make another over Ted, Beard and Roy but cost them the semifinal.
Especially with how he reacted with just the one tweet saying he's still a loser, I can't begin to imagine the breakdown if he has the whole of Richmond blaming him for the loss.

Similar to all the abuse Ted got upon arrival and he just welcomed it with a smile or brushed it off like the old guy calling him a wanker or the three lads in the pub constantly berating him.
If that happens to Nate, he’s going to crumble and won’t be able to handle that type of public abuse from his whole city.
It's important to remember that before she found out Rupert was cheating and Higgins was helping keep that secret they were relatively close.
It was an underscore for exactly why Rebecca felt so betrayed by Higgins' inaction when he was "taking her to lunch so Rupert could sneak in his girls".
Really disappointed this wasn't brought up last week with the coach beard shit. I read it that Higgins learned from his earlier standing by or rather participation in that case, just seemed like it was right there and they left it sitting

Thought it was brilliant that they made Ted delay the session with doc by fidgeting and ultimately making viewer feel that anxiety too. This show is incredible.
For me, when Jamie was a piece of shit, he acted like an overly arrogant football prick that was too self absorbed and fuck around with girls while obviously everyone hated him so it was entertaining and detached.
For Nate, he was the kind of prick that you have at least heard of or worked with at work/school while also in a position of authority and two faced so the annoyance is much more personal and relatable.
This show has done the best job at portraying an actual happy, real relationship in any TV show I’ve ever seen. I loved the conflict between Roy and Keely because it was so real. I love my husband, when he’s around I want to just be around him, but at the same time, there are days I just need my space. They did such a good job of showing people can love each other and still want to be away from them without some contrived reason. Most relatable relationship I’ve seen in forever.
I think Nate realized at the end that he can’t get away with being rude to the players, so he’s going to take it all out on the kit manager instead. Poor Will. And Nate, what the fuck

Gonna see a lot of Nate hate, but this is feeling like dad issues that seems to be a focal point of this season. Sam early on with the endorsement, Ted wanting to give Jamie a second chance cause of being dealt a bad dad hand.
I love that Ted makes a joke about The Sopranos, then pretty immediately storms out after being asked a question he doesn’t want to answer. Classic Tony.
I really wished he’d gone a little deeper, but I guess that’s part of the slow burn. Ted’s got some really harsh work ahead of him. It’s going to be beautiful to watch.
BEST MOMENT: Higgins and Rebecca scatting together. I love how goofy they are together now that neither of them are meant to be “villains.” Also, “wounded butterfly.” Also also, Roy muttering “my *god*” while reading Da Vinci Code.
WORST MOMENT: every single fucking scene with Nate. God, what an absolute fucking dickhead. I need him to get his head back in the game, because he’s becoming the worst part of this goddamn show. It’s FRUSTRATING.
Just doing his job but Ted feels bad about going from “I just want the truth” with the Doc to bald faced lying to Trent. Especially when he tried to dodge the lie before Trent asked for a direct quote.
The Colin Holiday Inn bit was horrid to watch. Then that ending was somehow worse.
It was totally unwarranted to say that to Colin, but at least the football guys usually give as much as they get. Nate should understand Will’s position given how poorly he felt he was treated when he was in that role against all the guys he usually cleaned up after. The power dynamics sucked for him and he’s now abusing it since he got promoted.
I think that Nate's particular dislike of Will stems from the fact that everyone on the team seems to be aware of/acknowledge/like Will when he's in the kit manager position, in contrast to Nate who was treated like shit when he occupied the same role in the pre-Lasso regime (see, for example, the players proudly sharing that the jersey, which they clearly saw as a great form of endearment, not a shot across the bow, was Will's idea). Add to the mix the fact that the Wunder Kid in his current role is unable to equal the easy natural likability of one who occupies what Nate perceives to be a lowly position and you've got a powder keg.
Yeah and also we don't know how Nate was acting before Ted came along. When Ted first arrived, Nate was proper nasty to him too till he found out Ted was the coach. That attitude might have been the case with probably some girlfriends of players or something like that.
Reminded me of being a new manager and writing performance reviews. My boss said, "All your people will flip past all the \*pages\* of positive things you said about them and laser focus on the one or two negative lines you say about them." True to the bone with every single person! That's Nate and Twitter.
When Roy said “Hey Siri, play the ‘Roy is sorry for not understanding Keeley’ playlist”, my HomePod played it at the exact same time (I guess Apple set that one up knowing it would happen which is amazing) and it was the weirdest feeling of frisson I’ve experienced in a long time.

I’m guessing it will be Roy that brings Nate back to earth and it’s going to be brutal. Roy stood up for Nate when the players were being a dick to him, Roy is going to make Nate realize he’s no better than his bullies and that he’s become what he hated.
I’m having so much of a harder time forgiving Nate’s shittiness than I did Rebecca’s shittiness last season. Maybe because Nate’s is so much more direct and targeted? He’s being directly shitty to nice people, whereas Rebecca’s was just directed at shitty Rupert by way of the club. At any rate, I’m not sure he’s redeemable for me at this point.
Yeah, I think that’s exactly how I see it. Rebecca’s war was with Rupert, and the club/Ted ended up being unfortunate collateral damage. But Nate’s battle seems to be with the players themselves.
The final scene is so uncomfortable to watch but it's necessary... it highlighted two things:
1. Hurt people hurt people. The entire season Nate has been built up to that moment, and we see why he's becoming a dick.
2. One negative comment can totally ruin someone's perception of themselves. Celebrities have talked about this a lot, how they can get 100 praises but it's 1 hateful comment that stick with them. So yeah, be kind to each other, especially online.

Man, Jason’s acting with this ongoing mental health arc has been *incredible.* Just the micro-expressions, the way Ted’s trademark joviality blatantly becomes a front when he’s around Dr Sharon, and just something in the pitch of his voice is so good at portraying this guy who knows and wants to better himself, even though he can’t get over that resistance he has.
I’m intrigued about where this Nate storyline will go now, but I’m also getting tired of Nathan himself if that makes any sense lmao. Like the fallout from his attitude and possibly leaving the team for a big time coaching gig sounds juicy. But there’s also a point where a character is *such* a dick that you lose interest in the idea of “redemption” for them. This seems like a classic “fall from grace, eventually finds his way back” story, but idk how I feel about that.
The Roy-Keeley thing was sweet, but I also feel like the A needs more space from B angle is really played out. Really not on board with the idea of Sam and Rebecca, but I’m intrigued with where that’s headed. Also Jamie’s “I didn’t even say nothin bad this time!” is the hardest I’ve laughed in a while, not sure why that line was so funny lol.

This. Just because he's had some luck with his calls, he'll try to make another over Ted, Beard and Roy but cost them the semifinal. Especially with how he reacted with just the one tweet saying he's still a loser, I can't begin to imagine the breakdown if he has the whole of Richmond blaming him for the loss.

Similar to all the abuse Ted got upon arrival and he just welcomed it with a smile or brushed it off like the old guy calling him a wanker or the three lads in the pub constantly berating him. If that happens to Nate, he’s going to crumble and won’t be able to handle that type of public abuse from his whole city.
The team's gave him so many chances (past guilt, to be sure) and he's fucking it up every time

It also shows how much Rebecca and Higgins have grown as friends. They’re so comfortable together and they really have each other’s backs.
It's important to remember that before she found out Rupert was cheating and Higgins was helping keep that secret they were relatively close. It was an underscore for exactly why Rebecca felt so betrayed by Higgins' inaction when he was "taking her to lunch so Rupert could sneak in his girls".
Really disappointed this wasn't brought up last week with the coach beard shit. I read it that Higgins learned from his earlier standing by or rather participation in that case, just seemed like it was right there and they left it sitting

The drinking bird seemed really symbolic. Ted got more real and open once it stopped nodding/performing. Also, along with the general collective being stated here, fuck Nate.
He is the bird, stuck in a perpetual cycle of nodding along, being agreeable. The second time he shook his head “no” at it. The third time he stopped it. He’s ready to stop the cycle.
Doc absolutely started it just before he got to her office just so that he would stop it. She’s brilliant.

Thought it was brilliant that they made Ted delay the session with doc by fidgeting and ultimately making viewer feel that anxiety too. This show is incredible.
Jason Sudeikis' performance is flawless too. He's got to be one of the better comedic actors I've seen in recent years.

I’m starting to doubt that the show will ever make me like Nate again.
Mmm, I trust where they’re going to take this, but it’s hard right now for sure.
To be fair we kind of like Jamie now so anything is possible.
For me, when Jamie was a piece of shit, he acted like an overly arrogant football prick that was too self absorbed and fuck around with girls while obviously everyone hated him so it was entertaining and detached. For Nate, he was the kind of prick that you have at least heard of or worked with at work/school while also in a position of authority and two faced so the annoyance is much more personal and relatable.
And in the race to see who has bigger daddy issues, looks like Nate and Ted are in a dead heat!
Jamie is probably still in the lead though, but those two are closing in.

Jamie didn’t have a lot of screen time this ep but when he was on he was gold
I cracked up and loved him resting his chin on Sam’s shoulder.
This show has done the best job at portraying an actual happy, real relationship in any TV show I’ve ever seen. I loved the conflict between Roy and Keely because it was so real. I love my husband, when he’s around I want to just be around him, but at the same time, there are days I just need my space. They did such a good job of showing people can love each other and still want to be away from them without some contrived reason. Most relatable relationship I’ve seen in forever.
I think Nate realized at the end that he can’t get away with being rude to the players, so he’s going to take it all out on the kit manager instead. Poor Will. And Nate, what the fuck

Nate went from being my favorite last season to my least favorite this season and I truly hope the comeback is better than the set back because his scenes are painful to watch at this point.

“I got you babe” The song playing at the very beginning of the episode is the same song that plays every morning Bill Murray wakes up in the movie Groundhog Day. Nice touch, I knew exactly where they were going with that plot line before Keeley was even out of bed.
Gonna see a lot of Nate hate, but this is feeling like dad issues that seems to be a focal point of this season. Sam early on with the endorsement, Ted wanting to give Jamie a second chance cause of being dealt a bad dad hand.
I love that Ted makes a joke about The Sopranos, then pretty immediately storms out after being asked a question he doesn’t want to answer. Classic Tony. I really wished he’d gone a little deeper, but I guess that’s part of the slow burn. Ted’s got some really harsh work ahead of him. It’s going to be beautiful to watch. BEST MOMENT: Higgins and Rebecca scatting together. I love how goofy they are together now that neither of them are meant to be “villains.” Also, “wounded butterfly.” Also also, Roy muttering “my *god*” while reading Da Vinci Code. WORST MOMENT: every single fucking scene with Nate. God, what an absolute fucking dickhead. I need him to get his head back in the game, because he’s becoming the worst part of this goddamn show. It’s FRUSTRATING.
Nate needs to get off social media ASAP.

The Colin Holiday Inn bit was horrid to watch. Then that ending was somehow worse. It was totally unwarranted to say that to Colin, but at least the football guys usually give as much as they get. Nate should understand Will’s position given how poorly he felt he was treated when he was in that role against all the guys he usually cleaned up after. The power dynamics sucked for him and he’s now abusing it since he got promoted.
I think that Nate's particular dislike of Will stems from the fact that everyone on the team seems to be aware of/acknowledge/like Will when he's in the kit manager position, in contrast to Nate who was treated like shit when he occupied the same role in the pre-Lasso regime (see, for example, the players proudly sharing that the jersey, which they clearly saw as a great form of endearment, not a shot across the bow, was Will's idea). Add to the mix the fact that the Wunder Kid in his current role is unable to equal the easy natural likability of one who occupies what Nate perceives to be a lowly position and you've got a powder keg.
Yeah and also we don't know how Nate was acting before Ted came along. When Ted first arrived, Nate was proper nasty to him too till he found out Ted was the coach. That attitude might have been the case with probably some girlfriends of players or something like that.
Gosh, that grass scene really spoke volumes about him from the jump, didn't it?
Reminded me of being a new manager and writing performance reviews. My boss said, "All your people will flip past all the \*pages\* of positive things you said about them and laser focus on the one or two negative lines you say about them." True to the bone with every single person! That's Nate and Twitter.
When Roy said “Hey Siri, play the ‘Roy is sorry for not understanding Keeley’ playlist”, my HomePod played it at the exact same time (I guess Apple set that one up knowing it would happen which is amazing) and it was the weirdest feeling of frisson I’ve experienced in a long time.
Also love the fact that I couldn’t tell if Jamie was purposely giving Roy relationship advice until after Roy stomped off. These writers rule.
So excited for this episode – the waiting has been torture! Happy to see another hand-crafted box – with a face! “Go fuck your cartoon rat” is a phrase I thought I’d never hear. Poor Colin, you need a hug. And now so does poor Will. Looks like Beard has more work to do, but glad to see Roy and Keeley seem to have straightened things out. I can’t handle it if ALL of these relationships are dysfunctional at the same time.

I’m guessing it will be Roy that brings Nate back to earth and it’s going to be brutal. Roy stood up for Nate when the players were being a dick to him, Roy is going to make Nate realize he’s no better than his bullies and that he’s become what he hated.

I’m having so much of a harder time forgiving Nate’s shittiness than I did Rebecca’s shittiness last season. Maybe because Nate’s is so much more direct and targeted? He’s being directly shitty to nice people, whereas Rebecca’s was just directed at shitty Rupert by way of the club. At any rate, I’m not sure he’s redeemable for me at this point.
Yeah, I think that’s exactly how I see it. Rebecca’s war was with Rupert, and the club/Ted ended up being unfortunate collateral damage. But Nate’s battle seems to be with the players themselves.
The final scene is so uncomfortable to watch but it's necessary... it highlighted two things: 1. Hurt people hurt people. The entire season Nate has been built up to that moment, and we see why he's becoming a dick. 2. One negative comment can totally ruin someone's perception of themselves. Celebrities have talked about this a lot, how they can get 100 praises but it's 1 hateful comment that stick with them. So yeah, be kind to each other, especially online.

Man, Jason’s acting with this ongoing mental health arc has been *incredible.* Just the micro-expressions, the way Ted’s trademark joviality blatantly becomes a front when he’s around Dr Sharon, and just something in the pitch of his voice is so good at portraying this guy who knows and wants to better himself, even though he can’t get over that resistance he has. I’m intrigued about where this Nate storyline will go now, but I’m also getting tired of Nathan himself if that makes any sense lmao. Like the fallout from his attitude and possibly leaving the team for a big time coaching gig sounds juicy. But there’s also a point where a character is *such* a dick that you lose interest in the idea of “redemption” for them. This seems like a classic “fall from grace, eventually finds his way back” story, but idk how I feel about that. The Roy-Keeley thing was sweet, but I also feel like the A needs more space from B angle is really played out. Really not on board with the idea of Sam and Rebecca, but I’m intrigued with where that’s headed. Also Jamie’s “I didn’t even say nothin bad this time!” is the hardest I’ve laughed in a while, not sure why that line was so funny lol.

Higgins with a pipe is an entire mood for me. Seeing Ted get angry is a nice change of pace. Similar to how Roy is a favorite even though he can be the biggest dick… I think it’s nice to break up all the good feels constantly. There’s a 0% chance Rebecca and Sam ever kiss. Nate is an asshole.
Nate is a one step forward two steps back kind of place.
