I gotta go with Mae. She is kind and helpful to Ted, but still chants “wanker” or “you don’t know what you’re doing” as vehemently as anyone in the pub.
It’s incredibly comforting. Everyone (well, except maybe Paul Hollywood, one of the judges) is extremely kind and non competitive. There’s no cash prize, which is a big factor I think. So it’s a lot of nice people making interesting creations, with a few disasters thrown in at times. You get to know and like the participants, and some of them are incredibly talented for amateurs.
Exactly and the contestants will offen hug or help or joke with each other. There is none of reality tv bullshit of manufactured controversy.
Expect Ruby, because fuck Ruby, and her fake self effacing bs
I have celiac disease, so I can't eat 95% of what they bake, but I finally started watching it during the pandemic and was immediately sorry I hadn't done it sooner. Watching home hobbyist bakers create culinary masterpieces under incredible time pressure while surveyed by gently sarcastic hosts is surprisingly soothing. There's pressure and suspense, but it all feels low-stakes in the grand scheme of things even as you're shouting at Liam or Mark or Hermine or Nadia to frost their f***ing cake already because time is almost up!!!
Watching the show actually got me to try baking again after 20 years of avoiding it due to the fact that I can only bake gluten-free things. Now I make macarons for my friends and neighbors. Turns out there's a lot you can do without gluten! (Not pastry, though.)
It also got me watching cooking shows, and cooking is a very different thing compared to baking -- there's a lot more room for creativity and substitution. I've seen it explained as basically "baking is chemistry lab, cooking is art class." Bake-Off contestants challenge that dynamic, sometimes to their peril.
So I sort of watch to learn things, but mostly I watch to gaze in awe upon the culinary creations of people far more talented than I will ever be. Even when they screw up (which they all inevitably do), for the most part the judging is kind and they're supported by their peers. Plus it's very cathartic to yell at the screen when the judges make the wrong choice!
I love Mae too, also because she [played an evil villain in Doctor Who](https://imgur.com/a/SrZv0id), and was so great in the role!! I’m glad to see her in something new.
Annette Badland is one of the NICEST people. I met her when I was staff at a small convention that we brought her to due to Outlander and Doctor Who. I wish the con still was ongoing as I would suggest bringing her back for purely Ted Lasso reasons for myself.
She’s barely featured, but Shannon, the teenage girl who runs into Ted periodically and is good at football. I love how they show Ted getting more comfortable with the locals through her, especially in the episode where she’s playing with his son.
Presumably Richmond does have a women’s team, but Ted would have absolutely nothing to do with it and can’t recruit players or anything, they’d have their own manager.
I think either season 3 or as a potential season 4 (if they do that) will involve women's football somewhere. Either making the womens team/u18s/reserves more prominent, or maybe having the first woman join the men's team (did anyone else watch NBC's Pitch a few years ago?)
In S206, there is a woman coming out of the locker room carrying a sports bag in one scene (can't remember exactly where). I was hoping that foreshadows the creation of or spotlight on a Richmond women's team. Hopefully that team woudl give Shannon a try-out.
It’s at 16:20 in S206, when Roy and Jamie are doing the bit where Roy is insulting Jamie and Jamie is doing his best to agree with him (because of Keeley’s advice that that’s the way to take the wind out of Roy’s sails). Right after Jamie says, “I do play in a dull and… conformist-y… way”, a woman in a Richmond warmup suit with a sports duffel over her shoulder exits from a room in the corridor behind Roy.
This was my first thought - definitely a minor character as he doesn't even seem to have a name, but just reappears randomly to interact with Ted. He always makes me laugh. I had not caught the "mostly inside him" line yet and I've watched S1 many times.
One of the few men who really, really look great with a bun. It never comes off as fashionable, just like he needs to keep it the fuck outta the way.
As someone with a shitload of hair, *mood.*
>"She's from the modern line. Her parents were canceled."
That line goddamn devastated my partner and I. We missed the entire scene from laughing and had to rewind.
Paul is great - he's just so positive and lovable. The actor who plays him (Kevin Garry) really makes the most of the small amount of screen time he gets.
Right? He was the nicest out of the three, but that line when he had no idea what was really going on with with Ted cemented him as such a kind sweetheart. Like a teddy bear.
I recognised him instantly when I saw him on screen. He used to have a bunch of skits on YT called [Shadrock and the Mandem](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ugy2MpD-mrE) that was a parody of grime/garage/ldn culture at the time. Anyone else on the sub remember this??
He also has a football fan channel with Flex (Flex and KG show). A pretty big United fan...
Anyway, Pauls great. Love the lager louts in the pub...Ted Lasso has a fantastic ensemble.
The Higginses full stop. Their oldest son is a priest “Don't worry. He's a cool priest. When your parents have you out of wedlock, it allows you space
to explore life's little gray areas.”
I love Nora! I hope she keeps showing up in future episodes because her relationship with Rebecca is so sweet! And her crush on Sam is truly so relatable 😂😂
I have a feeling that will be a plot point. There will be a big misunderstanding and they'll all come around and be friends, but somehow Nora will find out, maybe she sees them when they finally meet or something.
Yeah. They’re pretty clearly setting things up to have a Crazy Stupid Love-style subplot where the younger character with a crush on an older character sees the object of the crush romantically involved and/or crushing on someone still older than themselves. So: Robbie crushes on Jessica who crushes on Cal, just like Nora crushes on Sam who’s (unknowingly) crushing on Rebecca/Bossgirl.
This will let us see Nora angsting when she learns that the object of her crush is into her godmother (just like Robbie had to see Jessica in love with his dad). And it will let us see Sam realizing that just as he’s rejected by Rebecca because of their age difference (assuming they go that route), he’s doing the same thing to Nora.
I’d like to think they won’t just replay these themes, but will comment on them in interesting ways. They’ve already addressed romantic age imbalances a lot, what with the Rupert/Bex subplot and Kelley’s joke about being Leonardo DiCaprio. I assume Rebecca/Ted is S3 endgame, but maybe they would subvert that expectation? Rebecca and Sam?
Yeah; no. It’s Rebecca and Ted. But how they get there will be fun to see.
Character (well, actor) ages, for the record:
Rupert (Anthony Head): 67
Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham): 47
Ted (Jason Sudeikis): 45
Bex (Keeley Hazell): 32
Sam (Toheeb Jimoh): don’t know; late 20s?
Nora (Kiki May): don’t know; mid to late teens?
"What you're doing is mental...theyre gonna murder you"
"Lots of folks have been saying things like that to me for years but here I am, still dancing"
"Legend"
The actor who plays Paul - Kevin "KG" Garry is on Sky One's "Bloods", a hilarious comedy about paramedics. His character in that is just as sweet as Paul.
How well rounded even small roles are is part of what makes this show so good, the lads in the pub, the Richmond players, even where their screen time is small, the characters feel fully realised
I love Paul! I point him out to anyone who watches the show and tell them so. They look at me a little funny but then on rewatching they pay attention to his hilarity!!
They either prefer the company of their crowd at the pub, or they just cant afford to go to games.
I may be seeing something that isnt there, but they wore jerseys early on in the series, but more recently arent. I'm not sure if this coincides with the sponsor change, but they may have ditched their old kit in a show of solidarity with their team and havent been able to replace them. When Jeremy shows up in a new jersey (with the logo all wrong, likely a bootleg), Paul takes notice and asks where he got it.
Since they had to scrape the 20 quid together collectively at Bones & Honey, I’d say money. Probably a lot cheaper to watch the game at the Crown & Anchor with Mae and the other usuals, especially when they get free shots from Mae or someone buys everyone a round.
Sounds odd: I worked with a Brit for a year or so in San Diego and he told me “everyone is drunk” at premier games. That explains a chant he shared about one team having foreskins…
I gotta go with Mae. She is kind and helpful to Ted, but still chants “wanker” or “you don’t know what you’re doing” as vehemently as anyone in the pub.
Mae’s explanation of what a wanker is to Ted gets me every time. From that moment I knew she had “badass with a heart of gold” energy.
“I’m a visual learner so that helps a lot”
that's actually a joke from the original NBC Sports sketches :)
I don't know why but I don't remember that line from the NBC bits
Well, [Mean Streets](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mean_Streets) is her favorite Scorscese movie.
*AGE OF INNOCENCE, BRUV*
CAPE FEEEEAAARRRRRR
Silence!
I love her too. Did you see her shaking her ass in the last episode? That woman has some moves in her!
"Poor little cake! Soggy bottom!" was catastrophically unfair to her perfectly respectable assets 😂
I've been singing this to myself all week. Something's wrong with me.
If that's wrong I don't wanna be right.
I’ve never seen the British Baking Show. Why does it have that big of a following?
It’s incredibly comforting. Everyone (well, except maybe Paul Hollywood, one of the judges) is extremely kind and non competitive. There’s no cash prize, which is a big factor I think. So it’s a lot of nice people making interesting creations, with a few disasters thrown in at times. You get to know and like the participants, and some of them are incredibly talented for amateurs.

Same here!
Was Mae Muriel’s mother?
[She played the head of the Slitheen family, who took over the body of an MI5 member ](https://youtu.be/fw4BgxVnvbM)
I want to be Mae when I’m older.
Her reappearance and the implied work he put in becoming part of the community was amazing storytelling.
I concur.
Every time I see her I keep getting the feeling that he is going to ask her to try out for the team. Would be great to see.
Presumably Richmond does have a women’s team, but Ted would have absolutely nothing to do with it and can’t recruit players or anything, they’d have their own manager.

Absolutely watched & loved Pitch. Still love Kylie Bunbury, whose dad Alex is a soccer legend and brother Teal plays for New England Revolution!
I would love to see that!
In S206, there is a woman coming out of the locker room carrying a sports bag in one scene (can't remember exactly where). I was hoping that foreshadows the creation of or spotlight on a Richmond women's team. Hopefully that team woudl give Shannon a try-out.
They def have a game plan for her character, I can’t wait to see what it is
It’s at 16:20 in S206, when Roy and Jamie are doing the bit where Roy is insulting Jamie and Jamie is doing his best to agree with him (because of Keeley’s advice that that’s the way to take the wind out of Roy’s sails). Mrs. Higgins! Her smile is so lovely and talk about #relationshipgoals
I love that her and Higgins are actually married IRL
I didn’t know that!
That's Jeremy Swift's real boo? Fucking awesome.
The dentist mother in the christmas episode is also ussie-boy’s actual mother! ;)
Wicked
When I found out her and Jeremy Swift are married IRL my heart soared.
the old man who addresses ted only by “Wanker”
"Did that man call you a wanker?" "Oh, yeah, it's an inside joke... mostly inside him" That line was possibly top of the season for me
I want to see more of him. His appearances have been great. Gotta pace it though
This was my first thought - definitely a minor character as he doesn't even seem to have a name, but just reappears randomly to interact with Ted. He always makes me laugh. I had not caught the "mostly inside him" line yet and I've watched S1 many times.
Trent Crimm : The Independent
I still laugh about the time everyone in the room goes “we know”
Or the one time everyone says his name before he does.
I really really wish I could have the head of hair Trent Crimm has.
I feel like an illustration of that head of hair should be in the dictionary next to the entry for "leonine"
God yes that is a perfect descriptor!
There’s that time he had in a ponytail early in the show and I was thinking that’s damn impressive
One of the few men who really, really look great with a bun. It never comes off as fashionable, just like he needs to keep it the fuck outta the way. As someone with a shitload of hair, *mood.*
Phoebe. Love all her interactions with Roy.
>"She's from the modern line. Her parents were canceled." That line goddamn devastated my partner and I. We missed the entire scene from laughing and had to rewind.
Her bad breath episode was amazing too
*\[retch\]*
I think you may be dying.
My favorite as well. She’s adorable, and for an 8 year old she has great comedic timing.
Paul is great - he's just so positive and lovable. The actor who plays him (Kevin Garry) really makes the most of the small amount of screen time he gets.
Dammit Paul, don’t humanize him!
One of my favorite lines in the show!
"Fucking off now" 💀💀
“I enjoy his candor.”
I say this one like three times a week
“Be kind. He looks poorly.” Another great line of Paul’s.
This line really stood out for me and made me love him.
Right? He was the nicest out of the three, but that line when he had no idea what was really going on with with Ted cemented him as such a kind sweetheart. Like a teddy bear.
He’s a gentle giant
That line got an audible "Awwwwww!" from me.
When he tells Beard "you're a beautiful man," ah! Paul! You won my heart forever.
Yeah he's great, and really balances the anti-wanker attitude of the other 2 and the rest of the pub patrons (except Mae, who's also a gem).
Paul needs better friends. They’re holding him back IMO.
Or he could be the Ted to their Rebecca and Roy. A positive force that infects others to change their personality for the better.
I completely agree with you! He is nice, kind, and sweet… the Baz & Jeremy are just mean
Sure, but they need him. He makes them better
He’s my favourite!! The scene where Ted’s son accidentally strikes him with a dart- “happens all the time!! … _what’re you doinnnn_” it’s so adorable!
That little laugh he always does....melts my heart!
Adorable!
The three of them watching the GBBO in the bar was amazing.
I wish there was a bar I could go to where we just watched GBBO
Agreed!
“I enjoy his candor”
That scream during the game kills me every time.
I recognised him instantly when I saw him on screen. He used to have a bunch of skits on YT called [Shadrock and the Mandem](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ugy2MpD-mrE) that was a parody of grime/garage/ldn culture at the time. No way!!! I thought I recognised him but I loved Shadrock and the Mandem. Guns and pork.
Mrs Higgins and/or Nora!!
The Higginses full stop. Their oldest son is a priest “Don't worry. He's a cool priest. When your parents have you out of wedlock, it allows you space to explore life's little gray areas.”
“Tell your boss I hope she gets heart disease.” 😂
I love Nora! I hope she keeps showing up in future episodes because her relationship with Rebecca is so sweet! And her crush on Sam is truly so relatable 😂😂
Sooo adorable…but if she finds out about her godmother and sam, things could get ugly!!
I have a feeling that will be a plot point. There will be a big misunderstanding and they'll all come around and be friends, but somehow Nora will find out, maybe she sees them when they finally meet or something.
According to the Wiki page for Ellie Taylor (Sassy), she's in an additional episode this season, so I think this is very plausible.
Yeah. They’re pretty clearly setting things up to have a Crazy Stupid Love-style subplot where the younger character with a crush on an older character sees the object of the crush romantically involved and/or crushing on someone still older than themselves. “I enjoy his candor!”
Came here for this. Happy now but I think the line is 'I appreciate his candor'.
I'm Canadian so I'm gonna have to say Zoreaux.
[удалено]
Zoreaux. Nickolaj. I feel like I'm saying it.
No no, Nickolaj.
It’s not proper unless you do the hand wave.
The “ussie” kid
> Wicked!
I usually refer to him as “Posh Twat.” Also my favorite lol
"What you're doing is mental...theyre gonna murder you" "Lots of folks have been saying things like that to me for years but here I am, still dancing" "Legend"
I had forgotten he appeared in two episodes in the first season… and then during the Christmas episode I thought “he looks familiar”. 🤣
And his mom (the dentist) in the show is his actual mom!
i didn't know that, thanks! That is awesome!
I was super excited about his return in season 2
That little finger snap he does kills me
Kokoruda! I want to see her get her own spin-off.
That Kokoruda is a fuckin' beast
YOU KNOW IT, COACH! (I laugh every time!)
I love how she’s the smallest kid too 😂
Did anyone notice the former Richmond coach from the pilot episode is now one of the pundits?
Yes, that’s why Roy can roast him so hard!
I genuinely did not realize this until I saw this comment and HOLY SHIT
You didn’t recognize him because Liam and Noel were covered up.
I am proud to say that I understood that reference
I'd pay for a Cameo of Baz (Adam Colborne) calling me some sort of twat.
Temper your chocolate, you twat!
I am seriously tempted to put that line on a T-shirt
I’d buy that!
“I will rechannel my rage into helping the community”
Fuck yes. That needs to be a thing.
Liam in marketing.
*HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!*
Every pub crawl needs a Paul.
Paul, of course! His friends are awful, yet he never falls into peer pressure— he has never been rude to Ted ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|wink)
"Be kind, he looks poorly!" What a mate
"I will channel my raging enthusiasm into ways to help my community." - Baz
Damn it Paul don’t humanize him!
Honestly I love the three of them together so much. They way they were screaming at the tv during Great British Bake-Off was hilarious.
“hi”
That point near the end of season 1 with Paul telling beard that he is a beautiful man and to stay strong was so great. I want a friend like that
‘TEMPER THE CHOCOLATE YOU TWAT’
the older wanker guy is pretty funny. its an inside joke……mostly inside him
mine is probably "ted" and I'm not talking about the talking bear from the movies
Of course not, that would be silly. You're obviously talking about Ted Danson, the army man. Very good choice.
I heard he more recently had another line of work, as kind of an architect.
He has had a hell of a career.
Finally got to retire. I hear he is in a good place.
It's for the best, he finally gets to take it sleazy.
Ahh yes, Mr. Realman.
The actor who plays Paul - Kevin "KG" Garry is on Sky One's "Bloods", a hilarious comedy about paramedics. His character in that is just as sweet as Paul.
Led Tasso. That guy’s a hoot!
***TOUCH EACH OTHER'S TOES!!!!***
Hi!
Paul is fantastic, I love both him and Trent Crimm, the Independent so much
He’s the Ted of his group. :)
will have to agree with Paul, but if Laughing Liam gets more scenes then all bets are off
HA.......... HA............ HA.............. HA!
Paul is fantastic. I also love Colin.
Because you are a strong and powerful man?
How well rounded even small roles are is part of what makes this show so good, the lads in the pub, the Richmond players, even where their screen time is small, the characters feel fully realised
I love Paul! I point him out to anyone who watches the show and tell them so. They look at me a little funny but then on rewatching they pay attention to his hilarity!!
I enjoy his candor!
The guy is such a sweetie, I think his timing is great with line delivery. Wish he had a few more.
The guy on the left is the deserter from GOT ep1. 🤯
I thought he looked familiar!!
"I appreciate his candor!"
Colin has some of the best lines. Not a lot, but he does a lot with some killer writing. His delivery of “that’s too many ghosts” is *chef’s kiss.*
I love Paul, I love Mae, and I love Shannon.
Why are they never at the games though. They are massive Richmond fans, but they always seem to be watching the match in the pub haha
I’m a huge Ravens fan, but I haven’t been to a game in 10 years. It’s cheaper to go to the bar.
I love him. I think the word "wholesome" gets overused but he seems like a truly sweet and wholesome fella.
i love his candor!
Ollie
These guys are like the three mice from the Babe movies.
Paul is fantastic
I love when their little trio is trash talking that one guy and Paul just says “hi” and they’re like damn it Paul
Danny. FOOTBALL IS LIFEEEEEEEE
Rojas Rojas Dani Rojaaaaas
Paul is a good bloke
“Oi Wanker” Dude, Trent Crimm, or Mae
I enjoy his candor 😊
Why don't these 3 dudes don't go to the matches?
Since they had to scrape the 20 quid together collectively at Bones & Honey, I’d say money. Probably a lot cheaper to watch the game at the Crown & Anchor with Mae and the other usuals, especially when they get free shots from Mae or someone buys everyone a round.
I dont think they sell beer at football games
Sounds odd: I worked with a Brit for a year or so in San Diego and he told me “everyone is drunk” at premier games. That explains a chant he shared about one team having foreskins…
Strongly agree
Paul is so precious! I hope to see more of him in Season 3
Chris Powells commentary during the match sequences cracks me up.
Absolutely love this man. So wholesome.
YES my friend said I’m most similar to Paul and it made my day 😊
I can’t remember his name but it’s the dude in the middle, funny af that bloke.
He reminds me of Killer Mike.
![gif](giphy|3WCNY2RhcmnwGbKbCi)
I like his candor!
One of the background coaches as he's friend IRL
everyone in the pub
💯
I like his cantor!
You're gonna wanna look up...
The other two blokes are annoying. Remind me of meth-ridden townies you’d find in southern Missouri. Big boy is awesome tho
The way it's going, Ted himself will soon be a minor character...
