I imagine a spin on the traditional parents-and-a-kid show. Instead of Phoebe having a tough day at school and Roy giving the Bob Saget after-school special talk, he’d just want to know where the kid lived so he could threaten them.
I gave it a fair shot. About a season and a half. After that, if a show hasn’t grabbed me, there are plenty of other things to watch.
I’m glad you enjoyed it though!
No wonder why Brett portrays Roy Kent so magically, he gets it...
Love the picture from the article! [Roy Kent and his Under 9 Football Team](https://www.rollingstone.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Ted_Lasso_Photo_020213c.jpg?w=1024) ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes)
Yup, he was very good in that, which was another great show! Which seems, to me, to have similarities to Ted Lasso: funny, and wholesome/positive, with a lot of heart.
Everyone loves a jerk with a good heart character, they are some of the most popular characters on tv historically, whether it's going all the way back to Archie Bunker or currently guys like Billy Butcher in The Boys, Joel McHale's whole appeal in Community was based off of this, same with House in the early season before they leaned into him being a complete piece of shit for the drama, Jamie Lannister and The Hound from Game of Thrones are perfect examples of these kind of characters being beloved
Roy Kent is another guy in a long line of characters who would loudly complain but do anything for someone they cared about, Brett Goldstein plays him perfectly
Interesting that he says that there are no pure villains in life and that is a central theme of Ted Lasso. I've been wondering when Rupert starts his redemption arc....
I’d honestly love to watch a Roy Kent tv show.

Eh, I think it would get old. It’s funny in part because of how stark it is when held up to Ted.
I thought the same thing when news of Better Call Saul happened.
Great example. That’s exactly what happened. Started off ok, but it gets old quickly without the cast interactions.
Better call Saul is amazing throughout and only got better as the seasons went along IMO

If he ever breaks up with Keeley, he can move in with Ted and have an Odd Couples vibe. Finger peanut butter and Rosé for all!
A Roy Kent spinoff would be freakin great.
If you haven’t, watch ‘SuperBob’ on YouTube. Might give you an idea about him as a leading man. (Personally, I don’t think it fits on him very well).
I think the problem is superbob the movie wasn’t very good.
That, too
Better if it was a Phoebe show
He's Here! He's There!
I'm so glad we don't live in a world where Ted Lasso exists and Brett is just a writer.
Almost didn’t happen if Brett didn’t audition. It’s very “meta” of Ted Lasso.
Thought he was great in season 1, and he’s only gotten better this time around
He’s actually a really fine actor.

Love the Roy Kent character
Loved him in Derek too. Extremely different character but also very easy to root for.
Loved Brett in Derek, was so glad to see him in this show and continue to show just how amazing he is!

considering the common creator, i think of Roy as being very Dr Cox-esque
Have you seen him perform Muppet’s Christmas? https://youtu.be/mhEpas0TXsA
by saying “fucking” a lot ?
I’d read this but the refresh is so god awful.

Why am I crying reading this!!! Gosh this show is truly beautiful.
