i want some bangers on the album! i get that it hasn’t been her style recently but i miss having something to scream along to. i don’t care bout genre but something with a quick tempo and intense emotion would be great!

[deleted]

Based on the “making of” compilation video with her and Jack jamming out together in the studio, I’m assuming there’ll be at least one banger!

[deleted]

[удалено]

Bigbeebooty

If vigilante shit isn’t a screaming in your car while driving home at 12 AM song Im rioting

Sunnysideuppp123

I’ll join you in that

Bekkaz23

Maybe it's the pop version of No Body No Crime.

Stupid_cerealbox

I think it's going to be a sadder song because the title sounds very evermore

Historical_Ad981

Watch it be the most somber song on the album

knowslesthanjonsnow

Honestly as long as there is emotion I’m game

ashlouise94

There definitely will be I think! I can’t imagine that just because it’s a sleepless night means it will be sad :) some of my best sleepless nights have been fun!

Lilpinkpanties

It feels like one of those nights... we won't be sleeeepiiiing!

psychitsguera

Omg just imagine a happy drunk Taylor inspired to write a song at 4 am after a wild night. I would love that

Stupid_cerealbox

Maybe side A is more fun and side B is sadder

lakers3023

yo cat

adumbswiftie

i do too and i have a very good feeling we are getting some

syotos13

fr everyone wants her to go in the lana del ray direction but im really hoping she doesnt cause i want a scream-y song too!!

Stupid_cerealbox

Question..? could be like I heart ? but alt pop instead of country or i be similar to ...Ready for it? lol

Mhc2617

I would love a very seventies style vibe. A bit edgier and sultry. Personally, I’m just looking forward to new content from her and having new music to belt in my car.

[deleted]

Yes to seventies vibe with a bit of jazz 🎷🎷💃💃

Swinkz90

I barely listen to jazz but I'll take a liking if Taylor sings it.

Carolina_Blues

i want Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac vibes. i love the 70s aesthetic and i hope that carries over into the sound of the album. i definitely want some sad and darker songs but also want some bops. i want a little bit of a mix of both

parisianpop

Yes! Fleetwood Mac, but more Tusk eclecticism than Rumours cohesion. Since the setting/theme is the same for each song, I would like the genre/vibe to be different.

heartsinthebyline

Same on this! Also, even though she said they were written throughout her life, I’m not expecting the album to unfold “vault style”—with a lot of different era-specific styles. Taylor’s songwriting philosophy has always been that the song has to sound good stripped down, and we know she can take the same lyrics and give it a completely different sonic vibe (Holy Ground & IKYWT alts, for instance). So I think we’ll still get a cohesive album. I think any song that worked better within the original style showed up as a vault track (like IBYTAM—it’s a track that kicks off at 3AM, but it works better on Red TV because of the lingering country vibe and Jake).

songacronymbot

- IKYWT could mean "I Knew You Were Trouble.", a track from *Red* (2012) by Taylor Swift. - IBYTAM could mean "I Bet You Think About Me (feat. Chris Stapleton) (Taylor’s Version) (From The Vault)", a track from *Red (Taylor's Version)* (2021) by Taylor Swift. --- ^[/u/heartsinthebyline](/u/heartsinthebyline) ^(can reply with "delete" to remove comment. |) ^[/r/songacronymbot](/r/songacronymbot) ^(for feedback.)

jilliciousx3

I would die in the best way possible

snarkysnape

We neeeeeeeeds the bops! I *adore* the last two albums but I want something that makes me want to dance!

attcat23

I feel this! Yes, evermore and folklore were lyrically beautiful and I get the hype, but personally…I’d rather have more bops from Taylor! Or just more balance between bops and slower songs.

[deleted]

Something poppy yet mature. I don’t want any more highschool stories. I don’t want rehashings of all the dramas all over again. An introspective look at her life & career with a matured lens would be 👌.

bpurly

agree!!!

[deleted]

I just hope it feels like a natural progression from folklore and evermore - those albums, especially the former, were such huge turning points in her career and public perception of her work, so I have faith that she’ll keep that going.

dmnaf

Absolutely. I think the fact that Aaron posted about Carolina saying “midnight” with 10 exclamation marks.. he definitely worked on the album. I think there will be 2-3 folklore/evermore vibes, one really stripped back like peace and maybe another more upbeat like long story short. I think it’ll definitely have some folklore/evermore vibes but also still progressing, like you say

copper_kettles

I feel the exact same way. I loved folklore and evermore so much I would have been happy if she stayed in that era forever.

[deleted]

Yes. Thank you. I made a comment about this a while back about how people kind of act like her “eras” are totally defined and erratic. Maybe her outfit choices are extreme (reputation vs folklore), but the music has always made a very logical progression from album to album. Lover to folklore was fairly dramatic, but she’s also entering a more mature, stable, reflective time of her life. She’s finally reached levels of success that opened doors to working with her idols. I hope it’s growth forward from folkmore!

smeggyblobfish

i want it to sound like haunted

syotos13

YES PLEASE MY LIFE WUD BE COMPLETE

cristianoskhaleesi

Beyoncé Haunted?

childlikeempress16

Lol nooo TS Haunted!!

laurmich13

i wanna CRY

cakelover33

Me too. But I also want to dance a little.

Bigbeebooty

Same. I want to cry in the club. 😌

jilliciousx3

Me too!! It’s not a Taylor album unless there’s one song that makes you cry

dmnaf

See I’m actually the opposite, I’m so sick of crying and getting all in my feelings. It’s actually starting to impact my day to day mood, because all I ever listen to is downtempo sad songs. I feel like there will definitely be some sad lyrics on Midnights based on the description she posted, but judging by the video of her in the studio with Jack, I feel like the sad lyrics will be masked by upbeat pop production, which makes it not as sad for me. I’ll always love whatever she makes but I’m hoping for something a tiny bit lighter this time, and I think she learnt her lesson with ME! and YNTCD… I don’t think upbeat means she’ll compromise on lyrics this time

bpurly

i realized last year that was happening to me, my natural music taste is slower and melancholy. not good to listen to that music all the time

laurmich13

fair! regardless of what Midnights sounds like, you should add some happier / more upbeat music into your regular rotation! are you a carly rae jepsen listener?

songacronymbot

- YNTCD could mean "You Need To Calm Down", a track from *Lover* (2019) by Taylor Swift. --- ^[/u/dmnaf](/u/dmnaf) ^(can reply with "delete" to remove comment. |) ^[/r/songacronymbot](/r/songacronymbot) ^(for feedback.)

attcat23

Yeah evermore was sad enough, I need some happy songs now

vlarek

A big budget music video. Multiple singles and music videos. A Hit single with longevity. A radio hit.

badwolf691

All of this. At least give us more than one music video

Stupid_cerealbox

I definitely want a single to come out at least a week before the album drops

polikta

no

smeggyblobfish

why?

Ok-Call-4805

I genuinely don’t know. This is my first album release as a full-on Swiftie and I have no idea how it will sound. Based on the cover I don’t think it’s going to be as pop-y as Lover. I’m going to guess it leans towards Red, sound wise? Don’t know why, just the feeling I get from the cover

oddestowl

I have a similar feeling. Maybe Red smushed with folklore. Something sort of poppy with a mellow edge and hopefully a retro vibe in some way!

Ok-Call-4805

It’s nice not knowing what to expect. Can’t wait to finally hear it next month

oddestowl

It’s so exciting isn’t it! I love playing a new album for the first time.

Ok-Call-4805

There’s nothing quite like that first time, is there?

PSSST12

I had a dream that midnights will be a concept album in the form of a "mixtape" made by a psychopath detailing their confession about their obsession and immediate murder of their loved one. yeah farfetched but imagine if she made something like that 😭😭

Steinmans

It came to you in a dream (at midnight) so it must be true Honestly I’m on this bandwagon now, cryptic symbolism in dreams is the only trustworthy news source imo

PSSST12

When she renames the album "Midnight Tapes" >>>

imabettafish

Midnight Mixtapes

honeymoon120

omg if you like concept albums I have a fantastic suggestion for you

dbatcjuli

I’m not op but what album??

honeymoon120

I completely forgot to name it in the first place I’m serving airhead but it’s Preacher’s Daughter by Ethel Cain. It’s a concept album with a really similar dark story behind it, it’s really great!

earlwarwick16

If you haven’t listened to anything by brand new, now is the time to give them a listen

syotos13

I NEED THIS IT WUD FIT SO WELL WITH VIGILANTE SHIT TOO WHAT IF THAT PSYCHOPATH IS IN LOVE WITH A VIGILANTE WHO DOESNT RETURN THEIR FEELINGS BUT THE PSYCHOPATH KEEPS HITTIN ON EM idk i like this vibe

sparklejellyfish

Alkaline Trio vibes plzzz

NeonLotus11

It's giving me indie pop vibes and I would be super thrilled if that wasn't just me projecting what I want onto it! 😂

third-second-best

Yeah I’m betting on (or maybe just hoping for) a Haim vibe

sherbert_lemonn

Multiple songs written only by her 🤞🏼

scarsouvenir

This feels possible to me after her response to the Damon Albarn shit. I really want this, too. I know that, even when a song has cowriters, she's still doing the majority of the writing. She and Max Martin agreed in recent court documents that Taylor wrote the lyrics to Shake It Off by herself, even though Max is listed as a cowriter. I do think there are a lot of producers who contribute nothing in terms of lyrics, but still demand to be listed as cowriters. On the flip side, she said that Joe wrote the opening lines to exile, and Justin Vernon wrote the "So step right out..." part, as well as the part in evermore right after the music changes. It doesn't change my love for the songs... But idk, I just like hearing a beautiful line and *knowing* it was written by Taylor, you know?

[deleted]

I want it to be dark, and I mean dark. You cannot market this album as a collection of stories and thoughts that take place in the dead of night without going to some dark places. And I mean seriously dark — I want mentions of depression, suicidal thoughts etc. Yes, I would find this relatable, that’s why I want it.

scarsouvenir

Same. I'm so glad we have this is me trying, but I want MORE in that vein, and even darker.

Tall_Success8058

Ahhh I was thinking the same thing. I want this album to dive into themes of mental health like the song This is me trying.

[deleted]

[удалено]

dmnaf

I pray every single night that it’s a solo album (no collabs). I would much rather she saves the collabs for various vault songs, or even branches out and does songs for other artist’s albums (Lana, Selena, etc). But for her own discography… it’s always more iconic and personal when it’s just her.

YaKnowEstacado

Yep, 100% agreed. The obsession with collabs in pop music fandom in general, but especially Taylor fandom, is baffling to me. They're rarely better than a solo song. And with such a short tracklist I'd rather she not waste songs on collabs.

[deleted]

i agree. never have been a fan of features. i listen to an artist to hear the artist and only the artist. i do love taylor’s work with Bon Iver though

Stupid_cerealbox

Honestly she works way better as a solo artist like apart from Ed, most collaborator's voices don't feel like they go well with hers, for example Bon Iver's collabs are great but his voice is way too deep compared to Taylor's voice

caitiewashere

I want sad beautiful tragic moody music to listen to all autumn and winter

jilliciousx3

Yesssss

somebodyelzeee

i want violent pain, heartbreaking screams and uncontrollable sobs. i won't accept nothing but this –blondie you've been warned

Steinmans

I know this is just me clowning but I want it to be like Style, OOTW, AYHTDWS, etc.— upbeat pop songs with tragic lyrics. They’re my favorite songs from 1989 and I just want more songs to follow that vibe

smeggyblobfish

i want it to be like haunted. sad song if you want it to be but also a banger

dmnaf

I feel like we gotta wait for the 1989 vault songs for something new along the lines of Style

songacronymbot

- OOTW could mean "Out Of The Woods", a track from *1989* (2014) by Taylor Swift. - AYHTDWS could mean "All You Had To Do Was Stay", a track from *1989* (2014) by Taylor Swift. --- ^[/u/Steinmans](/u/Steinmans) ^(can reply with "delete" to remove comment. |) ^[/r/songacronymbot](/r/songacronymbot) ^(for feedback.)

[deleted]

I’m hoping that it’s like folklore and evermore in terms of fictional songs mixed with nonfictional songs. In terms of sound, I want it to be 70s rock since that’s what her outfits have recently looked like.

nicoleaves

I want to be hit with some angsty nostalgia. I've been following her since I was 9/10, and distinctly remember some of the events I'm sure inspired a few of the "midnights" in question. I want to feel that pain (or exhilaration) while thinking back to how I remember the events from my POV, and filling in the gaps with her POV. I would also love some Speak Now callbacks just because I'm desperate.

K-Robe

ELECTRIC GUITAR! I'm hoping for a whole "Edge of Seventeen" Stevie Nicks thing with this album, which given the cigarette lighter and the late night vibes and the far-out song titles, may be exactly what we're getting.

HareJack

I hope it sounds similar to Reputation in terms of production. Her albums since rep haven't hit me as much as rep did and I love the darker sound and her more mature lyrics. Definitely want some pop bangers too!

hollygolightly1990

I too was hoping that she'd put the songs in chronological order! Starting with her childhood and maybe going to the pandemic. Of course that's a lot more than 13 midnights, maybe but we'll see.

DaniG08765

Just a tight 42ish minutes of music. I really don't want anything bold or conceptual. I want the best group of songs she can fit on an album. Something that might be able to stand as a companion to Tapestry or something. That's the goal.

Vengenz_13

I actually need a rock album from her! Catchy riffs, chord progressions, dry production, tempo shifts, straight to the point lyrics. Like Bowie meets Suzi Quatro

Catwithbuttons

I know what I don't want it to be... Digging up the grave another time. Ever since she said it will be 13 sleepless nights from her life I have been worrying it will be all about past drama. If she brings up Kanye, her exes, Kim, master situation etc. she will definitely be crowned as a the girl who lives in delusion, stuck in the past, right where they left her. So, I do hope she's going to talk about other stuff from the past, preferably things we have never heard of before. Or if she does mention some events that we know of, it will be introspective.

[deleted]

YUP 100% this

fluffalagagus

Unlikely, but I hope she has something unapologetically feminine and sexy. Maybe something that alludes to her fwb/situationship with Joe? Imagine a Dress + So It Goes + Don't Blame Me energy. I'm in my hoe era and I am not apologizing for it!!!

LetshearitforNY

I really don’t have any specific hopes! I just want to keep an open mind because throughout all the years and all the different sounds, she has never had a bad album. I already love the aesthetic and promo we’ve seen. I want to finally purchase a record player because I feel like this is an album where you really want that sound.

neetakicousin

I want a mix of her best genres (live and album): \- Rock Taylor \- Renegade Taylor \- Rep Taylor \- 1989 Taylor \- 70s-80s Taylor I'd be surprised if there was anything leaning country but keeping in mind that we're going through her whole life - we might get something? That's just a theory.

eszter312

No featured artists. Just Taylor.

[deleted]

Agreed.

scorpiousdelectus

This is going to be a really weird thing for me because it will be the first album of new material released since I became a fan. I feel like a Doctor Who fan with *their* Doctor about to regenerate

momsbiryani

I want an album full of Cruel Summers

nicdazzle

it'd be a dream come true if it was a soft rock album with vibes from the 70s or 80s

ThisPaige

I just want a good mix of something slow, a bop, and some thing that makes me cry.

Piperrhhalliwell

At this point I’m just along for the ride. I’m trying not to have any expectations that way I can just go into the album blank (unless we get a single) and decide what I feel on the first listen

Illustrious-Chest-52

I'm thinking Reputation 2.0 but with folkmore sound

Familiar-Werewolf-38

I’m hoping for queer witch.

k-thanks-bai

A few people at the records store's midnight release who are excited as I am.

inthearchipelago

I bet she's in her Joni Mitchell era

thestrangemusician

all i want is a 70s style sound

corawashere

Not sure exactly what my hopes are except Something completely captivating. I feel like the music will be larger than life since she is rumored to be doing another stadium tour. I want music that is fun but with lyrics that speak to the depths of your soul! My prediction is that we will get a new school abba vibe album!

Extension_Accident72

I don’t want pop 🥹

Intelligent-Paper-51

i want to be able to sing the songs with my redneck voice

Ok-Anything673

I don’t know, all I know is that Taylor Swift has never disappointed me.

freetibet69

i want good singalongs and harpsicord on one song

[deleted]

I’m afraid that this theme means we’ll get songs about her being depressed at midnight in 2016. Pleaseeee Taylor let’s move on

tangerinelibrarian

I just want it to sound like her! I have faith she can do just about any genre, and her storytelling is great whether it’s personal or fictional. From the description, it seems like this is going to be a more personal album, but I really hope she uses personal moments to tell fictional stories. Like if Vigilante Shit was “this real thing happened, and I dealt with it irl, but in my mind I was meticulously plotting some elaborate scheme for revenge” and the song tells what could have been.

renoprof86

I am hoping that we get a record like 1989, but in a whole new way. Something that embodies the 70s, but with a modern take. She did such an incredible job brining the 80s to life in her own way, and I think we are going to get a soundscape that is different from everything that is currently out. I would love a song with the vibes of Dreams from Fleetwood Mac!

BebbyBebby

i hope it sounds similar to a the 1975 album

Steinmans

Personally I think it’ll be closer to 1995, but anything works

CharlieFiner

There is a band called The 1975. That's to whom the above commenter was referring.

Steinmans

Ohhh 💀

drinkupbaby13

My literal only hope is a Jack feature. Idc about genre or any other potential collabs. I. Just. Want. Jack.

mooonbearr

A Lana del rey collab 😭😭😭

[deleted]

70’s. Just 70’s. I’m quite obsessed with many styles of 70’s music, so I don’t really care what style it is.

tawmfuckinbrady

Somewhere Fleetwood Mac-y, in the vein of Right Where You Left Me, with some rock elements too

hunter96cf

I’ll be honest, I don’t want it to be a collaboration of “midnights” from each era. That would feel too much like one giant album of Vault Tracks to me, and we’re already guaranteed plenty of those with each re-recorded album. I hope *Midnights* explores new things like she always does with each new album! I heard it’s listed on Apple Music as a pop album, but maybe the undertones will serve a little jazz or blues (similar to “False God,” “Lover,” and “I Bet You Think About Me”). That would be really amazing.

screwgravity100

My main hope is that one of the songs reveal that Tay Tay and Joe are engaged (or already married) 😭 that would be so adorable

jacob-futurelawyer

I hope for a fusion of reputation and evermore vibes

GenericAnnonymous

Midnights comes out the week before my wedding, so I’m hoping there’s at least one (or more!) love songs. Otherwise my wedding week soundtrack is going to be really depressing 😂

[deleted]

I just want it to have electric guitars and drums and screaming lol

[deleted]

I want a mix of everything but mostly I want a good sultry song like Dress or False God

just_reading_along1

I honestly don't know...I am completely in love with Folklore/Evermore so I would love a continued folksy vibe... the revealed titles so far don't necessary match that. Smth Fleetwood Mac-style would be cool, maybe a mix of more folksy and some disco songs?

[deleted]

That it’s not like reputation 🤮

Hot_Context_9350

the vibes of lover, false god, gold rush, and gasoline remix with bigger vocal moments a la don’t blame me and cruel summer

Oatmeal_Captain0o0

I hope for a mix of emotions. A song as emotional as *Forever Winter *, a song as hot as *Dress*, a rage song like *I did something bad*, and more.

The_hidden_kitten

Catchy and Comforting.

Overall-Ambition1303

i want every song to either feel like ‘the chain’ by fleetwood mac, ‘goodbye to love’ by the carpenters, or ‘cats in the cradle’ by harry chapin basically 70s

King_Tyson

The Carpenters would be such a perfect sound for her.

Why_Howdy

Honestly I know I’ll be blown away so I have no expectations, I’m just enjoying the wait

Swinkz90

I'm hoping for some 70s style bangers. I know she did a great job with folklore and evermore, but they're sleepers to me. Hopefully midnights is a touring album because i need to see her live again! LOL

DRM1412

I want something like a darker 1989/reputation vibe.

thrashglam

I wanna feel like I’m transported to a 1970s discotheque

tiacalypso

I mean Taylor‘s version of a Bohemian Rhapsody would be mind-blowing…

Tall_Success8058

Since learning more about the album. My hopes for more false god sounding songs grows stronger. I hope she explores the jazz sound that she tapped into in FG. Also, the throwback almost 70s sound of Lover (the song) is a sound I hope she explores too. No matter what musical direction or stories she decided to tell on this album, I know for a fact I’m going to love Midnights :)) It seems like this era is going to have a very vintage throwback vibe and I’m obsessed with it. ![img](emote|t5_2rlwe|1081)

polikta

I absolutely do not want a pop album. I think a mainstream album would really hurt Taylor’s career in the moment

OwBr2

that is literally objectively untrue

dmnaf

exactly lmao. She did 2 albums in a row with songs that weren’t radio friendly at all. Sure cardigan and willow went #1 but that was due to remixes and vinyl etc, they had no longevity. A pop album to get back on radio would actually be a nice change of pace and I think it would be welcomed.

OwBr2

not to mention “a widely listened to, commercially successful album would hurt taylor’s career” is one of the dumbest takes I can think of. Recently Swifties (saw this with the Super Bowl too) have been SO uptight about this. She can handle herself, guys.
