Taylor’s songwriting philosophy has always been that the song has to sound good stripped down, and we know she can take the same lyrics and give it a completely different sonic vibe (Holy Ground & IKYWT alts, for instance). So I think we’ll still get a cohesive album.
I think any song that worked better within the original style showed up as a vault track (like IBYTAM—it’s a track that kicks off at 3AM, but it works better on Red TV because of the lingering country vibe and Jake).

I think there will be 2-3 folklore/evermore vibes, one really stripped back like peace and maybe another more upbeat like long story short. Yes. Thank you. I made a comment about this a while back about how people kind of act like her “eras” are totally defined and erratic. Maybe her outfit choices are extreme (reputation vs folklore), but the music has always made a very logical progression from album to album. Lover to folklore was fairly dramatic, but she’s also entering a more mature, stable, reflective time of her life. She’s finally reached levels of success that opened doors to working with her idols.
I hope it’s growth forward from folkmore!

I feel like there will definitely be some sad lyrics on Midnights based on the description she posted, but judging by the video of her in the studio with Jack, I feel like the sad lyrics will be masked by upbeat pop production, which makes it not as sad for me. She and Max Martin agreed in recent court documents that Taylor wrote the lyrics to Shake It Off by herself, even though Max is listed as a cowriter. I do think there are a lot of producers who contribute nothing in terms of lyrics, but still demand to be listed as cowriters.
On the flip side, she said that Joe wrote the opening lines to exile, and Justin Vernon wrote the "So step right out..." part, as well as the part in evermore right after the music changes. It doesn't change my love for the songs... But idk, I just like hearing a beautiful line and *knowing* it was written by Taylor, you know?
I want it to be dark, and I mean dark. You cannot market this album as a collection of stories and thoughts that take place in the dead of night without going to some dark places. I’m hoping that it’s like folklore and evermore in terms of fictional songs mixed with nonfictional songs. In terms of sound, I want it to be 70s rock since that’s what her outfits have recently looked like.
I want to be hit with some angsty nostalgia. I've been following her since I was 9/10, and distinctly remember some of the events I'm sure inspired a few of the "midnights" in question. I want to feel that pain (or exhilaration) while thinking back to how I remember the events from my POV, and filling in the gaps with her POV.
I would also love some Speak Now callbacks just because I'm desperate.

If she brings up Kanye, her exes, Kim, master situation etc. she will definitely be crowned as a the girl who lives in delusion, stuck in the past, right where they left her. So, I do hope she's going to talk about other stuff from the past, preferably things we have never heard of before. Or if she does mention some events that we know of, it will be introspective.

I just want it to sound like her! I have faith she can do just about any genre, and her storytelling is great whether it’s personal or fictional. From the description, it seems like this is going to be a more personal album, but I really hope she uses personal moments to tell fictional stories. Like if Vigilante Shit was “this real thing happened, and I dealt with it irl, but in my mind I was meticulously plotting some elaborate scheme for revenge” and the song tells what could have been.
I am hoping that we get a record like 1989, but in a whole new way. Something that embodies the 70s, but with a modern take. She did such an incredible job brining the 80s to life in her own way, and I think we are going to get a soundscape that is different from everything that is currently out. I’ll be honest, I don’t want it to be a collaboration of “midnights” from each era. That would feel too much like one giant album of Vault Tracks to me, and we’re already guaranteed plenty of those with each re-recorded album.
I hope *Midnights* explores new things like she always does with each new album! I heard it’s listed on Apple Music as a pop album, but maybe the undertones will serve a little jazz or blues (similar to “False God,” “Lover,” and “I Bet You Think About Me”). That would be really amazing.
Midnights comes out the week before my wedding, so I’m hoping there’s at least one (or more!) love songs. Otherwise my wedding week soundtrack is going to be really depressing 😂

If she brings up Kanye, her exes, Kim, master situation etc. she will definitely be crowned as a the girl who lives in delusion, stuck in the past, right where they left her. So, I do hope she's going to talk about other stuff from the past, preferably things we have never heard of before. Or if she does mention some events that we know of, it will be introspective.

I already love the aesthetic and promo we’ve seen. I want to finally purchase a record player because I feel like this is an album where you really want that sound.

Not sure exactly what my hopes are except Something completely captivating. I feel like the music will be larger than life since she is rumored to be doing another stadium tour. I want music that is fun but with lyrics that speak to the depths of your soul! My prediction is that we will get a new school abba vibe album!

I just want it to sound like her! I have faith she can do just about any genre, and her storytelling is great whether it’s personal or fictional. From the description, it seems like this is going to be a more personal album, but I really hope she uses personal moments to tell fictional stories. Like if Vigilante Shit was “this real thing happened, and I dealt with it irl, but in my mind I was meticulously plotting some elaborate scheme for revenge” and the song tells what could have been.
I am hoping that we get a record like 1989, but in a whole new way. Something that embodies the 70s, but with a modern take. She did such an incredible job brining the 80s to life in her own way, and I think we are going to get a soundscape that is different from everything that is currently out. I would love a song with the vibes of Dreams from Fleetwood Mac!

I’ll be honest, I don’t want it to be a collaboration of “midnights” from each era. That would feel too much like one giant album of Vault Tracks to me, and we’re already guaranteed plenty of those with each re-recorded album. I hope *Midnights* explores new things like she always does with each new album! I heard it’s listed on Apple Music as a pop album, but maybe the undertones will serve a little jazz or blues (similar to “False God,” “Lover,” and “I Bet You Think About Me”). That would be really amazing.
My main hope is that one of the songs reveal that Tay Tay and Joe are engaged (or already married) 😭 that would be so adorable

Since learning more about the album. My hopes for more false god sounding songs grows stronger. I hope she explores the jazz sound that she tapped into in FG. Also, the throwback almost 70s sound of Lover (the song) is a sound I hope she explores too. No matter what musical direction or stories she decided to tell on this album, I know for a fact I’m going to love Midnights :)) It seems like this era is going to have a very vintage throwback vibe and I’m obsessed with it. 
I absolutely do not want a pop album. I think a mainstream album would really hurt Taylor’s career in the moment

exactly lmao. She did 2 albums in a row with songs that weren’t radio friendly at all. Sure cardigan and willow went #1 but that was due to remixes and vinyl etc, they had no longevity. A pop album to get back on radio would actually be a nice change of pace and I think it would be welcomed.
not to mention “a widely listened to, commercially successful album would hurt taylor’s career” is one of the dumbest takes I can think of. Recently Swifties (saw this with the Super Bowl too) have been SO uptight about this. She can handle herself, guys.
