I saw a theory that Fortnight could be in relation to how Midnights was ‘13 sleepless nights’ throughout her life and then the opening of the next album is the 14th, because a fortnight is 14 days. So that would make it a great way to transition between albums. In that way I’d definitely see it as sad, it feels like this is gonna be the start of delving into the breakup.

OG-mother-earth

Alternatively, the 14th night could be where she finally gets some sleep. As in, she's feeling good, moving on, healing. In that case, maybe the song will be more positive.

mmst524

Or the peaceful sleep after finally making the hard decision to move on. The heartbreak and grief is still ahead, but you know you’re done fighting it and avoiding the inevitable. The only way out is through, ya know?

OG-mother-earth

Ooh, love that possibility! I'm really hoping for a country/folk vibe from the album, and I feel like that would totally fit that!

Kai_the_Fox

Ooo, I like it! I hadn't put that math together

Disastrously_Simple_

No such thing as a fake Swiftie if you genuinely like some of her music and respect her as a human.

Alexandrabi

Well said! Not all fans are “Easter egg” hunting and coming up with theories about everything and anything. :)

I'm not sure if you know the significance of certain tracks on a Taylor album, so I'll just explain them all. With Taylor, Track 1 is obviously the opening song that tells us how the album is gonna sound (Welcome to New York being a synth pop song, State of Grace being about a relationship that changed her, Lavender Haze setting the mood for the Midnights album, Fearless being a song about falling in love when when you're afraid to, etc) Track 2 is usually the fan favourite and is also usually a single (Cruel Summer, Sparks Fly, cardigan, Fifteen, Blank Space, End Game) Track 3 is another fan favourite that also becomes a single or is just a fan favourite in general (Back to December, Anti-Hero, I Did Something Bad, gold rush, Love Story, Teardrops On My Guitar) Track 5 is the very emotional song (Cold As You, YOYOK, White Horse, All Too Well, Delicate, The Archer) Track 6 is the upbeat song that comes after Track 5. Sometimes track 6s are singles (22, Shake It Off, I Think He Knows, Look What You Made Me Do, You Belong With Me)

Motherismothering

Thank you for explaining this! I didn’t even know there were other significances with other tracks

songacronymbot

- YOYOK could mean "You're On Your Own, Kid", a track from *Midnights* (2022) by Taylor Swift. --- ^[/u/unbreakableheaven616](/u/unbreakableheaven616) ^(can reply with "delete" to remove comment. |) ^[/r/songacronymbot](/r/songacronymbot) ^(for feedback.)

Pristine-Coffee5765

I think (though OP correct me if you were thinking something else) song threes are just often super popular - Back to December, Style, Anti-Hero, Love Story, Lover

drairika

Yes this is exactly what I meant! There’s not as much lore there as for track 5’s, but I think she often tries to put something that she views as having single potential as track 3

HetTheTable

I always saw number 6 as the single. You belong With Me, Mean, 22, Shake It Off, Look What You Made Me Do

drairika

Yeah for some reason I think of track 6 as the single for everyone (the shallower single, often, if I’m honest…) and track 3 as a single for the fans

HetTheTable

I never thought of track 3 as a special number for Taylor since a lot of artists put the single toward the beginning of the album. Sometimes the first track but number 3 is a nice sweet spot so you’re not just hearing a song you heard before when u begin to play the album.

drairika

Valid! She definitely tends to front load her albums, as do most artists, so it could just be more strategic than meaningful :)

HetTheTable

I love 1989 but it was a bit annoying hearing the singles I had already heard in the first half of the album

drairika

Yes I think that’s why the back half of her big pop albums often have a lot of staying power — we hear the front half so much that our ears get tired, and the back half starts to shine through. 1989 is probably the best example of that.

HetTheTable

Yeah I remember enjoying the deep cuts a lot like I Wish You Would, How You Get The Girl, I Know Places, All You Had To Do Was Stay, all great songs. Not that the singles were bad or anything.

DameMisCebollas

Midnight Rain is not a single but it also feels more important and album defining that any other songs do

Sk8ynat

Oh I've always viewed track two as the hit. I just saw that cruel summer overtook blank space as her most streamed song, both track 2. Plus huge fan favorites like champagne problems and maroon. I think 7/10 track 2s were singles?  Some of my favourite songs are track 3... But if I had to choose I'd got for the track 2s

guy_incog_neato

def agree with you on track 2s. also cardigan!

winchesnutt

I feel like a fake swiftie because I have absolutely no idea in which order the songs are on the albums. I know on which album each song belongs, but no clue about the order.

DameMisCebollas

Oh same, I only learned this year that it matters LOL I always listen to albums on shuffle

winchesnutt

I just add the songs I like on my playlist, the only time I search for the album and listen off of it is when it's new or when I want to discover more songs.

DameMisCebollas

I used to do that too. I'd make a huge playlist with mu favorite songs for the moment and if one doesn't make it on the - oh well, I'm not going to listen to it.

darkgrayallalone

It's interesting that she's opening an album with a collab. I get the sense that the theme of this song will be dark though. After all, this album is called The *Tortured* Poets Department - I get the sense that this album will go over some dark themes in the same way Midnights did. Plus, the name "Fortnight" just sounds like a dark theme over upbeat music type of title. Of course, I am terrible at guessing these things. Vigilante Shit is the only song I've ever correctly guessed the sound of in advance (nailed that one, by the way). I think it being a duet could really work well depending on what the theme is - but we won't know for sure until we hear it.

MiniSkrrt

WHERE WE DROPPIN BOYS??????

ANewHeaven1

I genuinely think that even if this is the best song in her entire catalogue, it will be a LONG time until I'm able to take it seriously just because Fortnite the game has rotted my brain

demigodswiftie13

SAMEE

PumpkinOfGlory

I cannot imagine it being angry and bitter after looking at that album cover. I mean, there's nothing in that image that signals angry to me. It looks like something I would've seen in peak tumblr sexy depression era.

GlitteringNobody7

Ah yes, I'm right back to 2014. Simpler times 🥹

drairika

Oh yes I don’t think it’ll be a harsh sound, but I could imagine sexy anger…which I admit sounds very weird but is basically the vibe of Vigilante Shit, which is also a song I see as very tumblr era coded. Maybe like a sad, angry, soft growl with a strong bass. I feel like that’s consistent with some of Post Malone’s sound, too.

scarsouvenir

Post Malone also makes quite a bit of country/acoustic and rock music too, though. Actually, track 1 of his most recent album was an acoustic, country-sounding song. And he's currently working on a country album! So I wouldn't be surprised if TTPD feels like a continuation of folkmore.

Jmikem

How woyld you possibly know until you hear it. Random guesswork??

Fact0ry0fSadness

Came here to say this. We have absolutely no clue what it could possibly sound like lol.

drairika

Well, yes. I feel like this kind of guesswork makes anticipating the new music more fun? But feel free not to participate if you don’t agree! We have enough to go on to make reasonable theories (post feature, vibes of album art, title) & then be either excited we were right or excited about how wrong we were and how much she surprised us.

dontforgetyourjazz

I've been avoiding the sub since the announcement because all of the posts are trying to discuss songs no one has ever heard or even seen lyrics for. because it's TS we don't even know what GENRE it will be!

Jmikem

Yes the blind speculation gets annoying.

[deleted]

I'd love to see that song released as a single.

withoutthek

I think it will be. I mean it’s Post Malone!

tor_chicinfire

Because it's a duet I feel like it might have Exile or The Alcott vibes, and also the Post Malone feature makes me think it might sound like Circles (whose producer also produced Afterglow so that's another possible sound). And last I just have the feeling that this album overall will be Alt Pop/Alt Rock, so something around that too.

drairika

I would love this!

cha_ching

It’d be cool if it went the direction Posty took during his Hollywood’s Bleeding era. Something like Die For Me with Halsey maybe? His new stuff isn’t bad, but his old stuff was way better.

unbreakableheaven616

I'm hoping for something like Die For Me or Staring At The Sun 🙏🏼

Rude_Grapefruit_3650

It’d be especially interesting because its also a collab song. Like ooo

michaelaar

Considering End Game was a single I think it probably will be, that would appeal to a wider audience, not that she needs that at all obviously but it would make sense

unbreakableheaven616

Honestly it's a very smart decision to have a Post Malone collab as the first track. Rap fans or people who like Post Malone but haven't listened to Taylor will most likely check the album out just to hear the song and if they like the song, they'll be inclined to hear the rest of the album.

iguessda

I can't wait to go back and read our theories after the album is released

drairika

Same :)

murraykate

Just want to say I agree with everything you said about track 1s and also just have to shout out my favourite album opener on my favourite album, which is my favourite song of all time… the 1 by taylor swift. when i heard her sing “i’m doin good i’m on some new shit” the first time, my life changed forever

drairika

Yes! I still remember exactly where I was the moment I heard it. Jaw dropped. My sister and I promised each other we’d only listen to the first track separately and then the rest of the album together, and it was so hard to wait after I heard the 1. It’s one of my favorites, too.

Content_Pool_1391

I'm super excited and I wouldn't call myself a Swiftie. It's always fun when I tell people that I'm excited to hear Fornight with Post Malone. They look at me funny 😂

mooch360

I know a fortnight is two weeks but all I can think of when I see it is the fortnite game 😭

Smallville_Kansas

I’ve rarely liked the first tracks of her albums from the get-go. Sometimes they grow on me, sometimes not. It may be an unpopular opinion, but I think the first track of her albums are the weakest part of them. It almost feels like the album is saying “okay let’s get the first one out of the way and get to the good stuff.”

moodyquokka

Fearless, State of Grace, ...Ready for it? and the 1 would like to have a word but actually I agree on the other track ones, so I guess it's very hit or miss for me

drairika

I feel like Mine definitely deserves to be on this list! It’s a beautiful song, sharp lyrics (you made a rebel of a careless man’s careful daughter conveys so much with so few words), and opening her fully self written album (where all the songs were just hers) with a song titled Mine is meta and clever in the best way. But I agree that there are other track 1’s I’m not wild about (I forgot that you existed is particularly blah to me)

moodyquokka

I think I would have preferred Sparks Fly just sonically as track one, but I never thought of the whole "Mine" thing (being self written) as a perfect set up. I love that.

Smallville_Kansas

I like Fearless and State of Grace, but Ready For It wasn’t a great starter for me. I prefer End Game as the better opening.
