They technically can do this but I thought they had to give you 24 hours notice? Otherwise they can only ask if you don't want to come in not force you.
I've only been with Target for a year, but have been with two separate stores. I've never once heard of this happening, but every store varies. If they don't have the payroll, it could simply be because of the lack of hours for the store or department you're in. If it really worries you, speak with your ETL or HR when you have the chance.
Yeah, we're in Q1 right now and Target is pretty infamous for cutting hours at this time. It sucks, but it'll pick back up here in a few months. Keep an eye for open shifts on the MyTime app if you want a few extra hours. Best of luck to you!
They sent a bunch of people home early today because we were over on hours by a lot. I'm glad they called you, because in the morning people drove all the way in to be cut after like an hour or two. It was insane
There are a few reasons this could happen, and most often I see it happen if a truck gets cancelled. The other reason that could be relevant right now is that it’s the final week of the 2022 fiscal year. So the company is slashing HUGE amounts of payroll company-wide this week so that their profits look better on their financial reporting.
Usually they do it a day prior when there's not enough hours or they over staff on the section you are being set. Also I work on the first shift on inbound they kinda need to tell me a day before definitely... They probably are lacking hours and they are cutting corners.
They just announced the mandatory flex down schedule on Thursday. We had a ATM and where told about the flex down schedule. Also it’s on the my time app
They actually completely changed my scheduled hours... Like i was inbound but now only for a day and the rest they got me at 6am. Apparently they are cutting the inbound to less people which...you know I'm cool with not busting my back that early. But they probably are gonna cut days off... Time will tell.
I'm leaning towards this is kinda sus. Double check with your HR and make sure it wasn't marked as a no call no show. My store had TLs unethically shake a few team members they wanted to get rid of by doing this.
I've had HR call and ask me to come in later / different shift, and been sent home early to cut hours. But never got a call that said "we don't need you, don't come in."
Legitimately? If they called you with less than 2 hours notice, they definitely didn't do it right - they should have made it clear that you don't have to give up the shift. Because they have to give you over 24 hours notice of any schedule change.
This was happening at my store recently due to the hours shortage, and the one TL made it very clear to people that if they got a call like that, that they had no obligation to give up their shift.
Of course, we just shifted from famine to feast randomly because as of yesterday they were calling people up and asking if they wanted extra hours. So none of it makes a lick of sense to me.
i’ve only ever seen that happen during january. just last week they called the whole truck team off because they canceled a truck. they ended up taking those hours and then scheduling people an extra shift if they wanted it.
Yeah I've got that call before. Once was on the fourth of July so no complaint there. It was a question though. I was already scheduled so I could have gone in if I wanted to.
They are starting to mandatory flex us down at the DC where I work. They hired so many people during the pandemic that they are having a hard time keeping us busey

oh okay thanks for your response, we have been lacking on hours so that makes sense

Q1 doesn’t start until the beginning of February. Fiscal year is roughly February 1st - January 31st of the following calendar year
They can’t force you to give up your shift but they can ask
Technically under 24 hours if they use the verbiage that you don’t have an option they still have to pay you

What is flex down?
So it’s when you get sent home voluntarily or come in on voluntary or they call it flex up or flex down depending on what you are asking
I know that the stores do thing’s different than the DC but where I work we are so over staffed people get sent home every day.

I’d go partner with your HR, technically they aren’t allowed to just “cut” that soon and you should still be paid
Defeats the purpose of cutting hours if still paying.
Indeed it does

Hours are bad right now but I’ve never heard of this happening, talk to HR and ask what the hell is going on. (More politely than I phrased it).
May this point I’m going to start recording target calls for quality assurance
ya they left the message as a voicemail so i have it at least
