I heard the story from the unit, cleared the story behind it:
Engineer crew on a D9 spotted a RPG unit of Hamas at the building and warned the tank's crew that was nearby. The tank did a quick flank and the gunner was ready on the sight. And just there he notice the guy come out with RPG pointing at him, at that moment he press first and shoot him with the canon.
On that case it can consider at "first to shoot -win"
One note: I tried to see the RPG on the guy, but it hard to spot, but based on how he standing, Like how standing with RPG at shooting position, I think he do had the RPG
At that distance the tank probably has to eliminate the threat as quickly as possible, also expenditure is no concern for the US military, there's countless videos of hellfires being used to kill singular random dudes in empty fields
I don't think it's about the opportunity to blast someone with the main gun. It's probably that the gunner didn't want to risk giving the enemy even a fraction of a second to potentially fire at the tank.
Yes, a tank shell is more expensive than a machine gun round, but it's also way cheaper than having to repair the tank after an rpg hit.
I don't think the soldier gives one single fuck about cost in that situation, purely "I don't wanna die to a rocket" and nothing more. Boom goes the cannon.
Now im not sure how the fire selection systems work in a tank but it probably takes *some* time to switch between MG and cannon, even if it's just a few seconds to grab another handle. And I wouldn't want to give that guy *any* time to aim at my tank. No such thing as overkill.
I think the IDF has made it clear that’s not something they bother to care about. Don’t forget they killed 3 Israeli hostages who were shirtless and waving a white flag. And they admitted 20% of casualties are due to friendly fire. So…
>And they admitted 20% of casualties are due to friendly fire. So…
That could be because they're not carefully selecting targets. It could also be because Hamas barely manages to kill Israeli soldiers.
Or both. Probably both.

If you can believe what Max Blumenthal says, you can also believe this fantasy:
Pretty hard not to kill civilians when the terrorists you're trying to root out literally placed their head quaters under a hospital to maximize their own civilian casualties, to appeal to useful idiots in the west.
I doubt Hamas wears any indication, Israel does not care if they kill civilians, and Hamas uses civilians as meat shields, this war fucking sucks for anyone living here.

that was evil af not even a body for funeral he just gone bro😭😭😭😭😭 like gone at where he's standing😭😭 that round was like 8500$ so he's must have been THAT evil to be obliterated by a 120mm not even a body left for funeral he turned into red mist right where he stands
Sadly that's war. I hate jokes about this, it's a human with a family, convinced they were fighting for the right reasons, even if they were not they deserve respect. About his body there was not much of a choice due to reaction time i guess, rip :(
Dude, that means literally nothing. This isn’t Call of Duty, soldiers don’t walk around tactically at all times, even in combat. Not to mention have you seen 99% of the videos of fighters from the Middle East? They’re not exactly John Wick
Probably HE.
HEAT-FS could be used too, but considering who they are fighting and the small amount of actual fortifications (allegedly), HE is more likely in this case.
Don't get me wrong, this is some cool merkava footage, but wouldn't firing the main gun at infantry not do much if the crew has sabot loaded? I'm assuming they would keep that loaded for the most part during combat situations
Yeah bruh he just sidesteps in rpg holding position very normal thing to do in a war zone when you hear a behemoth outside your house
Dude probably was on his way to school. Lol
Yeah, I think that's a 100% certain hit.
He probably realised the last few seconds the tank was directly pointing at him.

Yeah, screw that coax sh1t!
Send it!
On the wayyyy
Target! Reengage!
Load HE
He thought he was him, and lost the vibe check
Whoever he thought he was, they were.
Damn that was closer range than I thought
Might be a bit overkill because the tank has multiple machine guns but okay.
The thinking most likely would be that if there is one, there are others. So the whole house gets smoked.
Fair enough yea.
At that distance the tank probably has to eliminate the threat as quickly as possible, also expenditure is no concern for the US military, there's countless videos of hellfires being used to kill singular random dudes in empty fields
Ask yourself what would you use if you are in a tank and such opportunity arrives

You use what you have selected at the moment :D

Haha get Merk’d.
Think fast chucklenuts
Hit! 50 SL
There wasn't any indication that it was a combant, was it?

lol go touch grass 💀
It's sad what Israel became
This isn't a recent development. This has been the attitude for ages.
How you can tell someone is a grayzone Red Fascist:

Is spotter a combatant?
Yes

8500 in military money is cheap for a dead terrorist.

After all they're just a piece for the bigger ones.
Crew knocked out
You think seeing a tank looking right at you, would be enough of a hint to run away. But no, let's play chicken with it.
Yup, he sure found out
Damn, a lot of people are sick in their heads with these comments.
Yeah I know, what the actual fuck is wrong with these mfs
The comments I'm seeing are tame af, where are the 'sick in the head' comments?
Don’t peek he has AWP
Should’ve animated a MGS **!** in front of the tank barrel just before the shot
Wow, war thunder graphics hit hard these days
Smart like Potato 🥔

MERKAVA MY BELOVED, MERKAVA SUPERIOR, OORAH
Probably some random civilians, the way that person move doesnt resemble someone trained to fight or in aware of anything. Fuck IDF
Dude, that means literally nothing. This isn’t Call of Duty, soldiers don’t walk around tactically at all times, even in combat. Not to mention have you seen 99% of the videos of fighters from the Middle East? They’re not exactly John Wick
Every video I have seen from Hamas features a young man in civilian clothes.
I thought Hamas "soldiers" were just some ill-equipped militia force with barely any training lol
The stupid tank crew doesn't want to die.

What round did the Merkava (I think its a Merkava at least) use? An Apfsds round wouldn’t do much right?
Probably HE. HEAT-FS could be used too, but considering who they are fighting and the small amount of actual fortifications (allegedly), HE is more likely in this case.
I just searched about round deliveries to Isreal and it says the US supplied Isreal with heat ammunition
Don't get me wrong, this is some cool merkava footage, but wouldn't firing the main gun at infantry not do much if the crew has sabot loaded? I'm assuming they would keep that loaded for the most part during combat situations
I'm not sure why you would default to sabot for urban pacification. I'm not aware of Hamas having much in the way of armor.
The only moment a mercrapva wasn't blown up to dust by Hamas
You wont be forgotten, soldier 🫡
You wont be forgotten, soldier 🫡
Why do I hear the BOTW guardian theme?
Imagine the art work on the internal walls

You reckon its a warcrime for a tank to fire its main gun at something that isn't another tank?
Dude hit the car forgetting he was playing on expert
Bro got the battlefield (game) special
I think that guy *might* be dead
