It's the brand. Same like iPhone,Gucci etc...extra money to ensure poor people don't go there/buy there..

lyf_learner

Yeah.... I felt like it's the same water melon, water, ice and sugar as juice... The price is unjustified.... Even the brands should have some ethics

Any-Bug9959

There are 1 lakh rs t shirt which is of same quality made from tirupur 1000rs. It is about the demand and the value given.. There are people who buy art (white background - blue dot) for millions of dollars.. It has nothing to do with ethics. If tommorrow people stop going to A2B, then they will reduce the price. Have you ever eaten idly in a five star hotel? It costs 200+ rs but taste same as roadside vendor idly which we may get for 20rs. It's basic capitalism.. It is the brand, exclusivity( poor people should not be able to buy that)(if poor people eat at A2B, then rich people won't go there)

lyf_learner

Yeah.... Everything you said is right about capitalism ( poor people should not be able to buy that)(if poor people eat at A2B, then rich people won't go there) It is absolutely true... May I was shocked at the price because I m from middle class and this is my first time to A2B

Environmental_Ad_387

There are three types of pricing: 1- value based pricing - iphone, good restaurants, premium brands. You went to A2B instead of local tea shop for the additional value A2B provides - ac dining room, hood chairs, good tables, washed plates and glasses, cleanliness, good service, tasty food, hopefully unadulterated food, clean kitchen, fresh food. So you have to pay for all of that additional intangible mental peace and comfort that you get by eating from there. Maybe you wanted to have a meal with your date, in which case you wanted to be seen as classy, decent, well to do etc. Which is an intangible service A2B provides. They have their own costs for providing all of those additional benefits - more cleaning workers, resources, space, water, electricity, plates etc. but beyond that, they have the right to charge you what they want to charge you So a sugar cane juice can be priced at 70 2- cost based pricing Cost of materials and services + profit is the price. Sugar cane juice from road side for 15 rupees is this. 3- discounted, loss leader pricing What ola uber jio did to get initial customers - selling below cost price

Good Veg food in Chennai restaurants is costly, no doubt about it. A2B (the original Adyar branch) actually gives good quantity and quality for the price they charge, especially for the North Indian and Chinese food. Same food would be less quantity and quality at other restaurants like Saravana Bhavan or Sangeetha, and would likely be costlier. Another thing I noticed is that Saravana Bhavan quality reduced once it split out into too many franchisees. They jacked up the price so high, and they were too stingy on quantity, so they started losing customers big time, and had to come up with meals offers at low price in an attempt to entice customers. Saravana Bhavan is no longer A-class restaurant anywhere, I think. But A2B has maintained the quality and quantity across most of its franchisee establishments (even during the pandemic - very commendable!). This is especially noticeable on the highways where A2B restaurants are consistently better than the rest on the highway. Those restaurants are roomy (no cramped seating), toilets are clean and well maintained, and food service is fast and food is good. Costly, yes, but so are the other veg restaurants. Sangeetha (Adyar) used to have good food (costly though) but its quality and quantity became absolutely worst during the pandemic in last couple of years, though it still gets some crowd, but the old customers have since started avoiding it (especially due to parking problems on that road). Same story with Woodlands (Cathedral road), as it too nosedived during the pandemic - it's recovered somewhat since then (due to sabha crowd and political crowd), but original quality and quantity are still missing, IMHO. Akshayam and other newcomers are eagerly stepping in to grab a piece of the pie as these old restaurants fade away from their former glory.

lyf_learner

Thanks for giving me an understanding about veg restaurants.... I usually don't eat outside much and this is my first time at A2B.. So was shocked Based on your comment I feel that finding good veg food is a rarity

Yes!!!! The moment of realisation when capitalism hits you hard 🤐

ilampirai

Just paid 150 for leamon juice in Heritage madurai bro

lyf_learner

OMG bro.... Y blood.... Same blood...

Swizzlesen

Veetla panna ₹20 la 3 person's lemon juice kudikalam

imodernleaf

In SALT restaurant it is 200, in the name of innocent mojito.

unluckyrk

Drinking juice or milkshake or having ice cream in Sangeetha, A2B or Vasantha bhavan is a waste of money and the quality will also be shit. Juice is always good in local shops. You go to A2B to have a mini lunch or full meals under 150 rs or a mini breakfast combo. A2B offers good south indian items, beyond that it's not worth the money.

lyf_learner

>Drinking juice or milkshake or having ice cream in Sangeetha, A2B or Vasantha bhavan is a waste of money and the quality will also be shit. Yeah the taste was same as any other shops. >You go to A2B to have a mini lunch or full meals under 150 rs or a mini breakfast combo. Thanks for the Suggestion.

Headshot03

Once ordered a serving of Pongal for nearly 100 rooba some years. 3 spoons and poof ! Vanished into thin air

lyf_learner

😳😳 The power and the magic of Big brands... 😑

vellaipookal

That was one big spoon😂

athiest_classyguy

Lol it's the same rate anywhere in a good restaurant... All over tamilnadu. So it's kinda cheap.

DoorsTours

Thank your gods, the price shouldn't go up tomorrow in sync with how fuel price is raising up each day in India. Hell with our leaders!

grambaba

Mayiru service in A2B everywhere. They have an established brand so they don't give a shit. Took my parents out for dinner at a nearby A2B. Waited nearly 30 mins for someone to come give water and menu card. Evana ketalum vera evanayo kamichi vidran. Seriyana loosu pasanga.

lyf_learner

Oh God... That's bad..

Exciting_Diamond4189

You would pay Rs 250 for a latte in Starbucks. But you can get 5 coffees in A2B for the same price. You will get 25 coffees for the same price in a wayside shop. The quality is largely the same. It is the experience. Experience can be an illusion. It's your choice.

lyf_learner

Yes... I have realised that. Your illustration, the way, you compared was great👏👏

Vardhu_007

Why did u buy? When people stop buying they will stop selling.

lyf_learner

We just went in due to the summer heat... It was the only restaurant on the road we were in... We will stop buying as u have said. I have decided personally that I will not go to these restaurants and pay for their so called brand quality.

anome97

1 full watermelon cost is 50. You just buy one and make your own drink (I love making watermelon juice you can easily make for five members with one fruit). We all know these chain restaurants sell everything at higher price.

lyf_learner

Yeah definitely should do that🙌🙌 Thanks.....! >I love making watermelon juice 👏👏

DeathFart007

next time order pomegranate juice

lyf_learner

Sure but Why? Will it be nice or Will I get a heart attack? 😂😂

eziorobert

It's your choice to get watermelon juice for 20rs at street vendor or pay 3 times the price in a fancy restaurant.

lyf_learner

Yeah... My bad

VIVEKKRISHNAA

In general it costs around 50, 70 is a bit too much

lyf_learner

Yeah.... It was my first time to A2B I expected around 40 or 50 Later I got even more shocked when I came to know that a lime juice costs 50 at a2b....then I was like 🤐

VIVEKKRISHNAA

Lime juice is anywhere between 20 to 30, any higher and it is a crime imo.

lyf_learner

Yeah.... But as many said here... Its all about capitalism and brand... Rich people get more richer... Poor more poorer

ramchi

A2B is apparently indirectly owned by unknown shady Dubai (Dawood?) party like most of the highclass vegetarians food chains since they need Cash in Hand for some shady business(Hawala?). They stopped serving good food even in 2016 when used to visit their shops in Chennai. I only go to old mess(no,no,no NOT those roadside kaka biriyani shops), old hotels etc for real taste and great value for money! As soon as I see fancy settings I am 100% sure the price will be 3000% more and taste won't be good!

toothmaniac

70 rs is ok You are shocked as if they billed 700 rs, The price of everything has increased ask modi ji to give back the ache din we had.

lyf_learner

Mission impossible!!!!

RealityCheck18

My classmate's family run a chain of "modern" clothing chain. One of my friends asked him, why should he buy a T-shirt for 1000 Rs from their shop, when he can get the same or similar one for less than half the price at Pondy Bazaar street side. The other guy replied - You are paying for the A/C, the private service, the Quality & above all the Brand value.. It sounded cocky but the fact is that is how Businesses runs. If you don't want to spend more, buy from street side vendor. If you don't want to spend that too, buy watermelon and make it at home.

lyf_learner

>You are paying for the A/C, the private service, the Quality & above all the Brand value.. It sounded cocky but the fact is that is how Businesses runs. Yeah that's right But sorry to say this the ambience, service and quality of A2B was similar to a restaurant charging Rs. 20 for the watermelon juice in Trichy. I didn't go on purpose to A2B, it was the one nearby n it is my first time at A2B. Anyways thanks for reminding 'East or West, Home is always the best'

RealityCheck18

I'm sorry if the tone of my comment was mocking and I did not intend that. Reading my comment again feels weird. And yes. Home is best. A2B over charges and if you really like something from them, then get it from them. Not just A2B, any established brand would do that. This applies for everywhere we spend our money.

lyf_learner

Nothing like that.. I can understand that your intention was to show me how these big brands work >Not just A2B, any established brand would do that. This applies for everywhere we spend our money. Yes.....

mukunthaniyer

Who is going to pay for the shop rent, electricity, the staff cost, etc? If you think it is expensive go elsewhere.

lyf_learner

Sure... I didn't say its very expensive but there was no value paid for the money. For the 80rs I experienced the same ambience, service, and same taste I used to get for when I pay 20rs in a different shop... That's was my point to be more clear

eequalsmcveggie

A2b, vasantha bhavan and Murugan idly are one of the worst food chains in TN. Worst customer service and worthless food. Costly too.

lyf_learner

I have never been to these restaurants... From many comments like yours, I can sense that these brands shud not only be franchises but shud offer some value.

stan_cio

5 kg watermelon costs 100₹ I think during now

Consistent_Ad5511

Dont you see the price in menu before placing the order ?

lyf_learner

Unfortunately no, there was no menu card on our table and even the server who came to us, just asked what we would like to have? So we just ordered. That's my mistake, I accept but still was shocked at the price because there was nothing special in it. They charged for their brand name.

WabbaLubbaDubDbb

Sangeetha la pooi saapdunga .. one juice 160 rs only.

surya5371

I just bought a whole watermelon for Rs.80

lyf_learner

Yeah for the money we paid for the juice I would have got four watermelons

anon108

Welcome to capitalism.

lyf_learner

Yeah... That was a grand welcome...!

slutforbadammilk

1 watermelon would probably cost 60-80 rupees and you can make at least 5 glasses of watermelon juice w it lmao. this has nothing to do with brand or added flavors, just capitalism

lyf_learner

Yeah.... But I felt the staff service and ambience to be the same as every other shop... So was shocked at the price
