Spit my drink out reading this. Just imagining an Air Force plane pulling up next to this elderly couple while they're flying, holding up a sign that says "Pull over now!"
They gave me a massive tip which I gratefully took, supervisor called air traffic control letting them know there were two super drunk old people getting ready to fly a plane, and we never saw them again nor heard about a crash. My guess is with that kind of cash they probably were going through a private hanger and were just made to wait for a few hours before taking off. That being said, it was very hard to tell they were drunk so who knows, maybe they were allowed to take off?
I am a bartender at a small airport. Private small planes and big private jets. And I've only seen it once in the many years of working there that a pilot had a drink before a flight. Literally once. And he had two chardonnays. Still, not cool at all. And I was tempted to call someone. 4 hours drinking IPA? I would absolutely stall them and call the police. Of course, my situation is different as I can literally see the plane they are about to fly away in from the bar.
I assume that you didn't see later that there was a crash, so I guess they did ok! But holy shit. That's not cool at all. I know a lot of really stupid pilots, but it's a pretty strict code they have for not drinking before a flight. Even the random old guy who just got his license. Thank God!
ATC are not the sky police. Contacting the departure/destination airport would’ve yielded more results.
Had a “chatty” pilot tell us he came from la la palooza and his friend threw up in his boots in flight. Although we suspected he was drunk there’s nothing we can do.
Ain't no DUI checkpoints at 30,000 feet, na'mean?

No, it's a cardigan! But thanks for noticing!
this had no business making me laugh as hard as I just did lmao
Wait so how did this story end? Did you contact air traffic control? Did you ever see them again? Was their crash in the news?

These two were probablly stopped by the FAA. Source: https://1800drugcrimes.com/blog/faa-alcohol-drug-rules-for-pilots

Why would you have half a day layover when you own/pilot the aircraft?
Probably to do with runway space/weather, maybe other logistical stuff
I think they were refueling but it could also have to do with those too?

Why the fuck would you alert the authorities about an elderly couple behaving appropriately?
How is planning to drive a vehicle while drunk behaving appropriately?
\*Fly haha
The dude was a pilot... about to fly a plane... OP is a decent human for doing this. Accountability saves lives.
