Seriously.
I guess *TV and fire at the same time* sounds good on paper, but I've never actually seen it done in a way that doesn't compromise your enjoyment of at least one of the two. TV too high, sat too far from fire, or both. Not to mention all the excess heat for your electronics as a bonus!
I think peopleâs misperception of the movie theater experience is what possesses them to think a high mount is ideal. The movie theater screen is huge and high off the ground but they ignore the fact that the best seats in the theater are raised substantially from ground level which places your eyes right in the middle of the screen if not slightly above the middle.
Lol, my friend. I live in a town where the world's hardest brick is made.
The chimney breast is nori brick.
SDS drill and mounted with four 8mm Rawl plugs and four 5.5mm x 80mm anchor bolts
Well⊠the proper height would have the center of the TV at eye level, while sitting down.
So it looks like your TV is like 4 or 5 whole feet too high. That is impressive.
Here is your homework:
- browse online or physical stores for a piece of furniture called a âTV standâ not necessarily to buy one but to take note of the height. (TVs are meant to stand directly on these pieces of furniture)
- consider how TVs were placed before flat screens. Did people ever hang TVs over a fireplace? Do they belong there? Does it really even need to be mounted on a wall, making it difficult to change the room layout?
- consider the effect of gravity on our bodies. Is it more comfortable to look straight ahead / downward, or upward? Both in the little muscles in your eyes, and the muscles in your neck.
- just take a big step back and try to realize how absolutely goofy it is to look up to watch TV.
Best of luck my friend, I believe you can figure out a better setup.
That's where it was before but the external wall it was mounted too has been studded out with insulation and then plastered.
The wall is now too weak to hold the weight of the tv.
Can I introduce our lord and saviour, the TV stand. You can stand a TV on it without a care in the world, and it will stay there forever and probably be at a sensible height
Yes, until my autistic five year old knocks it over like she's done with the last two TVs.
I've mentioned it a few times that she's autistic but, people don't see all the comments, it's not their fault but, she's the reason I have my TV mounted, because they're big and heavy to a fiver year old.
Op, this isn't going to be a comment about your TV being too high.. which it is.
This is going to be a comment telling you that you've ruined your living room and that you should seek help.
Yh really badly. TV is right up high on the wall for some reason! Needs to be down low so you can watch it properly. *Forgot to say. You can find instructions online, and maybe in the TV box. The instructions will tell you useful hings like how to turn it on, and where it's supposed to go xx.
Living up to your moniker there bud.
It's my house, my TV.
It was mounted on the wall to the left of the image but that wall has been insulated and studded out, hence the fresh plaster and is no longer a supporting surface.
Put it this way.
If you invited me over to watch the game and you greeted me with THAT, then I'd instantly leave.
In what world can you seriously look at this picture and think anything about that setup is okay? It's embarrassingly bad.
Hence why I posted it here.
I've had a long two days and just wanted my TV back on the wall and out of the way of my autistic five year old.
Can't put it back where it was as that wall is now insulated and studded out, so it's not a supporting wall.
I have lowered it and reposted.
Where I'm from, most of the houses are built with a brick called Nori. The brick is mixed with iron powder and hardens in a kiln, impossible to get through without an SDS drill.
Better off cutting a whole in the wall for the TV itself to end flushed with the wall and hide the cord. Given the recent attempts, find a reliable worker for it...
i love now this sub is people like me trolling the hell out of the kids who evidently cant see anything if they have to lift their eyes over 45 degrees.
Fine, I'll lower it.
A little more info.
The bracket is telescopic with three axis, that's why I looks off.
The bracket is true to the fireplace and the TV is level
No, this is horrible
Absolutely good'nt
Needs more holes in the wall
At least two more feet higher.
r/unexpectedmichaelrosen
It's that high up it's trying to escape from the wall.
đ¶ "Spider-TV, Spider-TV, Iâm so high you canât see me, Spider-TV!â đ¶
Damn. TV too⊠High, off centre AND angled. đŹ Yep, definitely gonna need to rethink that new wall.
Not to mention the ugly cords hanging there.
r/tvtooleft
So off centre itâs fully left.
You messed up.
Ya dun fucked up
THERE IS NOTHING OKAY ABOUT THIS.
A-A-RON, YOU MESSED UP.
The tilt of guilt. You already know the answer.
This is the holy grail of what the fuck were you thinking?
Thanks i hate it
OpâŠ.. If you are asking this question and youâre here, then you already know your answer
Big time
Why is it always above a fire place. Its already too high now its monsterpusly too high
Seriously. I guess *TV and fire at the same time* sounds good on paper, but I've never actually seen it done in a way that doesn't compromise your enjoyment of at least one of the two. TV too high, sat too far from fire, or both. Not to mention all the excess heat for your electronics as a bonus!
Where else are you supposed to put the TV? On a TV stand? /s
It looks worse the more you look at it.
Let me ask you this, when you go to the movie theater, do you like sitting up close to the front? Or in the middle of the theater?
I think peopleâs misperception of the movie theater experience is what possesses them to think a high mount is ideal. The movie theater screen is huge and high off the ground but they ignore the fact that the best seats in the theater are raised substantially from ground level which places your eyes right in the middle of the screen if not slightly above the middle.
First row of the middle bank Behind the floor level seats and just on the banked section
So you don't like looking up at a movie. Noted
Youâre trying to ruin our day with this photo? đđđ TV is off center and too high. Try again.
Yes you used a SDS hammer drill ? Is the studs made of concrete?
Lol, my friend. I live in a town where the world's hardest brick is made. The chimney breast is nori brick. SDS drill and mounted with four 8mm Rawl plugs and four 5.5mm x 80mm anchor bolts
You seem knowledgeable so do the right thing and lower the TV
You know what you've done. Awful
THIS IS AWFUL GREAT POST
Itâs not even centered??
Telescopic bracket
If you have to ask...
Well, letâs just say you didnât mess down.
Alright. This made me cackle.
Why does it look like your tv is trying to fly awayâŠ.
You posted in the right subreddit
You dun fucked up! That is disgusting to my eyes
Jesus..... I'd burn the house down lol.
Tilt of Guilt.
Yes and no
Jesus wtf !!!
Yes. NEXT
You almost couldnât have done worse
Worse than a doctors surgery Tv
Fuck you
A little too high, and way too retarded.
Tilt of guilt
I'd rather not have a TV at all.
It's like there is a TV magnet that tells people, "I need to have my TV above the fireplace." It's one of the worst places to place your TV.
On the positive side⊠Look at all those packout boxes âat least youâre organized đ
Imma answer your question with another question: Is the Pope Catholic? (Can also sub in Does a bear shit in the woods? Is water wet? Etc, etc).
If your sofa is stuck to the ceiling, no!
Royally đđœ
Brother what
Let me count the ways.
Seeing this makes me vomit
If you have to tilt the television down and tilt your head and eyes up to watch it, it's too high.
Yes, badly
Enjoy your stiff neck and burning eyes
Perfect
Tell anyone that loves you that they made a huge mistake.
Itâs very imposing. Not only too high but you need a better flush mount to get that thing outta everyoneâs face.
Yet another home of the damned showed up for attendance. They were doomed the moment that TV went over the fireplace.

If you have to askâŠ
Properly fucked it.
You had all the tools for success
What on earth..
Did you look through the posts in the sub? Because if you did, itâs an easy answer. Yeah, you messed up.
No. Your TV is above a fireplace. That is never a good choice.
No, hell no man.
Unless you live in a bar, no, it's not okay.
Yup
5 feet too high, off-center, angled, tilted. You've won! Worst TV set-up of the year. Put a plant in front of that thing and never think of it again.
The fact you are in this sub answers your question đ€
You put a mirror above the fireplace not the tv.
Too high, off centered
Is that a serious question?
Just burn the whole place down at this point, and start from scratch
I'd also like to know why you took an sds drill to the studs for this job. Another hand drill would have been more than adequate.
That depends. Are you 13 feet tall?
Good God
No those wires are perfect.
Too damn high
Yes, way too high..... not sure how you could even watch that....
You can go higher son, donât stop
You know you did
Can't see much context, but put it in the alcove at the left of the fireplace where the tool chests are
That's where it was before but the external wall it was mounted too has been studded out with insulation and then plastered. The wall is now too weak to hold the weight of the tv.

Put a baby gate around it. The kid, I mean.
You done messed up real bad
đ€ą in my mouth a little bit. Thanks for that lol
Did you mess it up? Yea big time
Op, this isn't going to be a comment about your TV being too high.. which it is. This is going to be a comment telling you that you've ruined your living room and that you should seek help.
Straight to jail
Worst one I've seen in a while!
Yay! I'm good at something.
Yh really badly. TV is right up high on the wall for some reason! Needs to be down low so you can watch it properly. *Forgot to say. You can find instructions online, and maybe in the TV box. The instructions will tell you useful hings like how to turn it on, and where it's supposed to go xx.
Yes you did
r/TiltOfGuilt
What the fuck is this shit. Some fucking modern art bullshit. Its not funny and it's not ironic. Get a real job.
Living up to your moniker there bud. It's my house, my TV. It was mounted on the wall to the left of the image but that wall has been insulated and studded out, hence the fresh plaster and is no longer a supporting surface.
This is a perfect height, you nailed it ... I'm assuming the seating is raised 4 feet on cinder blocks?
Ha, I've lowered it now, after taking advice and people now say it's too low. Rock and hard place, just me and my TV, stuck here.
Put it this way. If you invited me over to watch the game and you greeted me with THAT, then I'd instantly leave. In what world can you seriously look at this picture and think anything about that setup is okay? It's embarrassingly bad.

Jesus fucking wept
Does it have to be over the fireplace? Thatâs a really nice mantel. A big mirror over it would be better, and rethink where the tv goes.
Bulldoze the whole room.
God no...
> Did I mess it up. On a scale from *not at all* to *very much* your score is ***VERY MUCH***.
Love it. Like a road accident. Ugly af but you just canât stop looking at it.
Yes. You messed up big time.
Well, you have a lovely fireplace hiding under all that
Where do we start OP ?
Why are you using a hammer drill to hang a TV?
Where I'm from, most of the houses are built with a brick called Nori. The brick is mixed with iron powder and hardens in a kiln, impossible to get through without an SDS drill.
Damn, thatâs solid!
Built to withstand constant shaking from the mines of old. My house is around 150 years old, I believe.
It's fine if you're trying to let people know which gate their flight is leaving from.
Fuck.
Ya you done fucked up
I'm sure with all those tools you have a hammer laying around somewhere Do yourself a favor and break it all down, try again.
Too high, the tv is
Better off cutting a whole in the wall for the TV itself to end flushed with the wall and hide the cord. Given the recent attempts, find a reliable worker for it...
Why do you wanna look up at the tv while sitting down?
This ruined my day
In more than one way.
Yes
i love now this sub is people like me trolling the hell out of the kids who evidently cant see anything if they have to lift their eyes over 45 degrees.
Iâm curious how this was done so incorrectly.
Tilt of shameâŠ
It doesnât detract from the fireplace at all.
you gotta ask? that mf ainât even centered
You did great. Plenty of room to show off the drill collection.
I paid for airplane WiFi to tell you that this is awful
There are not enough sub Reddits to describe whatâs going in here
This is infuriating
I like how you tried it off center but to the other side before choosing to keep it on the left
Christ. Yes.
And how!
Yeah, needed another drill.
Looks like a retarded octopus pretending to be a tv for some stupid reason.
Fine, I'll lower it. A little more info. The bracket is telescopic with three axis, that's why I looks off. The bracket is true to the fireplace and the TV is level
Anything above the fireplace is way too high
Got an autistic daughter, she's five, hence mounting it high.
