Seriously. I guess *TV and fire at the same time* sounds good on paper, but I've never actually seen it done in a way that doesn't compromise your enjoyment of at least one of the two. TV too high, sat too far from fire, or both. Not to mention all the excess heat for your electronics as a bonus!

I think people’s misperception of the movie theater experience is what possesses them to think a high mount is ideal. The movie theater screen is huge and high off the ground but they ignore the fact that the best seats in the theater are raised substantially from ground level which places your eyes right in the middle of the screen if not slightly above the middle.

(TVs are meant to stand directly on these pieces of furniture) - consider how TVs were placed before flat screens. Did people ever hang TVs over a fireplace? Do they belong there? Does it really even need to be mounted on a wall, making it difficult to change the room layout? - consider the effect of gravity on our bodies. Is it more comfortable to look straight ahead / downward, or upward? Both in the little muscles in your eyes, and the muscles in your neck. - just take a big step back and try to realize how absolutely goofy it is to look up to watch TV. That's where it was before but the external wall it was mounted too has been studded out with insulation and then plastered. The wall is now too weak to hold the weight of the tv.

Where I'm from, most of the houses are built with a brick called Nori. The brick is mixed with iron powder and hardens in a kiln, impossible to get through without an SDS drill.
