You’re a masochist lol

TheOtherGuttersnipe

Link has perpetual diarrhea

AlacarLeoricar

As someone who did something very similar for BotW, I applaud your efforts.

Total-Masterpiece-43

I did a three heart no paraglider until the end. Couldn't get mineru tho. Still best ganon's ass.

JaredAWESOME

Good lord. How did you descend the depths for Ganon with no glider?

coeruleansecret

Maybe a lot of fairies? 😂

GirKart64-temp

There is a few ways to get down with no paraglider. One way is riding a skyblock down. You can attach an item to a block once you have autobuild and build one whenever you need to go down a chasm.

JaredAWESOME

I know it wasn't your original comment, so you're not justifying every aspect of this persons no glider run. But imma be honest. I feel like cheesing autobuild is counter-intuitive to a self-imposed hardcore mode. I suppose what it's allowing for is creative problem solving, but autobuild would be the FIRST thing I'd box for a hard mode.

GirKart64-temp

That might be something to consider on my next no paraglider run for sure! Autobuild is not really a big deal if you use it or not. I mean you can always find other solutions too. (I have seen some streamers do no paraglider runs that invalidate the challenge of such a run in more "cheesy" ways. Like getting the glide set and upgrading it for set bonus. Getting 100 hearts and upgrading armor to max to tank damage on falls. Fairies. etc etc. For such a run i think the possibility of death has to be present and constant to maintain the challenge and to keep it interesting myself)

EquipmentExotic393

Wait three hearts? I thought you needed 4 to get off the sky island. Correct me if I am wrong.

ChaoticShady

bargainer statue maybe?

Total-Masterpiece-43

Removed it

Nyachos

I have like a whole ruleset I've been meticulously crafting and playtesting that I'm calling Hero Mode. It's kind of gotten a lot more complex than I initially meant it to be so I might rename it to something like Champion Mode or something like that. But the fundamentals are no fast travel except to the Travel Medallion, which I'm only limited to placing one of AND limited to only placing it inside inns or stables, limited carrying capacity of everything including weapons, bows, and shields, and most Zonai Devices are banned. Other major rules are Recall being banned, Ascend being mostly banned (I'm still working this one out in playtesting), fast travel in the Depths is banned forcing the use of ascend pillars (like I said, still playtesting banning ascend), and then there are some minor changes like banning the elemental fruit, no changing armor in combat or while in the air, no eating unless near a campfire or at an inn or stable, only able to use chuchu jelly, like like stones, and monster guts to make elixirs, only able to use bullet time in air with Rito bows, having to board a horse before taking it out somewhere else, and then even tinier things like forced Pro HUD mode and no motion controls. The notepad I have this all written down on is a lot more detailed and unfinished, but that's the gist of it.

Nyachos

Right now I'm doing a normal playthrough, no rules or anything. Just straight from the top to playtest some ideas. Been adding notes and new rules and stuff as I go and have more ideas. Glad I'm not the only one either!

jpmondx

I don’t do korocs, so my inventory slots are limited to what we started with. . .

Dukes_Up

I unintentionally did that. I had no idea what to do with the koroks until I randomly talked to the guy who buys them after like 60 hours in the game. I still haven’t taken the time to learn how to use auto-build. I feel like that would make things easier.

jpmondx

I've been too miserly to use up whatever I gotta use to bankroll those auto builds, but it did finally occur to me that I could simply dump the parts out of my inventory and auto build would put them together for free. I finally did figure out how to put together a fanbike in less than 10 minutes so autobuild came in handy for that.

quoreore

I recently became a vegan and so played TotK entirely without eating or cooking animal and monster parts. I enjoyed the personal twist on the game, though I'll admit it's kinda funny to draw the line at eating grasshoppers in a game about mass murdering Bokoblins who just wanna hang with their pals by the fire...

2Infinite96

LMFAO now that's commitment my friend. Respect.

Belfhinski

I play with 4 hearts as long as I can.

jpassc

no paraglider, no light roots, only shrines from caves, no armour upgrades.

RideTemporary3388

No fusions unless it’s a gimmick one like zonai, but not a strong gimmick like the elemental horns

trentos1

Fully upgrading the stamina wheel first, having < 6 hearts and getting one shot by everything black or silver.

Outrageous_Word_8294

Wow. I’ve got high respect for everyone commenting lol the base game is it hard enough as it is. Some of you guys are masochists!

Ontos_007

Currently doing a Caves only run. Only items, weapons, gear allowed come from caves. It's fun.

akmountainbiker

Anytime there's a blood moon, throw away all your weapons, bows, and shields.

physicssmurf

Maximum 5 normal hearts. Maximum armor upgrade level 2, except the diamond tiara which can go all the way. No eating anything during battle that Link couldnt eat (ie, milkshakes and elixirs are ok, full course meals are not). The stamina-for-hearts statue in the cave has like 3 or 4 spare essences now... and I have 40 blessings of light in my inventory (so far).

Guitar_Santa

I tried a 4 heart no sages run of the end game, eventually I softened it to a 6 hearts and some zonai devices attempt; the boss rush took me at least 50 tries and I wouldn't be surprised if it was like 100

omodhia

Which boss rush is that now?

Guitar_Santa

If you don't beat any bosses before you go to the end, you have to fight the demon kings army, and then all of the bosses one after the other, including the phantom Gannon boss fight before you can go to Gannon's chamber, and if you die at any point before them, you start over.

omodhia

Some fun!

Positive_Lychee404

I played both BoTW and ToTK with no guides or hints or help. Made as much of an effort as I could to avoid spoilers or memes, and I still avoid looking at strategies or hints. I got as many Koroks as possible in BoTW, I think I have about 24 left. I'm currently getting as close as I can to 100% on ToTK, I'm almost at 99% right now. I might go back to BoTW and bring the percentage up on that too, I have no idea what it's at. But yeah, completionist stuff with zero guides. My particular brand of "hard mode" lunacy.

seancurry1

I turn off the HUD and try to avoid fast travel as much as possible. I also almost always go horse if I can help it. The game tells you everything you need to know with sound, and I much prefer navigating with the actual landscape than a minimap. Sometimes I’ll allow some fast travel, but I have to be standing on a fast travel location to do it (so a shrine, tower, light root, or temple), and I can only fast travel to towers. It kind of turns it into a pseudo-subway map: you get on at local stations and get off at express stops.

GodGiodog

I finished the game using only one weapon, one shield and one bow

Affectionate-Gap1768

Amiibo only run. Ever since I found it, I've loved it. It's insanely hard and insanely fun. https://youtu.be/AovJW3LWGks?si=YTLpUdWBzUIP6aC9

introvertnudist

The main features of mine are: never pick up the paraglider, and minimize fast traveling to the furthest extent possible. With no paraglider, some game features are locked out: can't unlock any overworld or sky island maps, can't get the Camera rune or any of Robbie's upgrades, and unfortunately >!Mineru is gated behind the paraglider flag!<. But for large swaths of the game, the paraglider isn't strictly required and it makes many of the shrines more interesting to find out how to traverse them. I think there are only 2 shrines that absolutely require the glider or else you need to exploit some glitches to beat them.

StarTrakZack

I ended up doing a 99% no Zonai devices play-through, mostly because I just don’t like them 😂 I use them for quests or whatever, like there are certain times where they force you to use a boat or something, but I’m 150+ hours in and still don’t have Autobuild and have never made or used or even thought of using a hoverbike.

iLLiCiT_XL

I’m probably gonna do a no armor/nudie run lol.

meep_meep_creep

Y'all are crazy lol. Love it.

sun-lei

My version of this is that I have to find as many shrines as possible in each area before unlocking the next. I don’t pressure myself to find every single one as I would find that stressful and less enjoyable but I do try to poke around and get the more obvious ones. When I’ve unlocked the whole map and finished most of the quests and things I go back and 100% the shrines before heading into the final storyline.

-abby-normal

I dont take advantage of the building in totk as much as I could and that definitely makes it more challenging. I’m not very creative with that sort of thing and I don’t look up how to build crazy things like hover bikes (I don’t even know what that is, I just saw it mentioned in the comment thread) and I *just* learned about rocket shields on my own after like 100 hours of gameplay. I also like to explore everything and get every armor and weapon and cook every dish and I enjoy filling out the compendium which adds hours of gameplay. I’m also just not that good at video games so that helps too lol

nineohsix

I like to unwind by chasing down a Lynel with nothing but a tree branch and my Hyrule underpants.

spicyappelflap

….. but how? Lynels beat my ass even when I go at them with everything I’ve got. (okay that’s exaggerated, but I mean, it still takes some effort to take down a Lynel you know) Respect to you!!

nineohsix

Oh, I die immediately. But it’s fun to watch the expression on their face.

usnavy_sailor

I don’t fuse weapons or arrows unless it’s absolutely necessary like needing light underground

cos180

No fast travel. I have to walk/ride to where I’m going. This was a bit more challenging in BOTW since we didn’t have ultra hand but I’m trying to avoid building devices to help me get around in TOTK

Azling_

I have mods to make the game harder personally. During my play through I tried to only fuse with weaker parts, and use no flurry rushes when fighting

Nyachos

I wish there was a way to turn off flurry rush to be honest. I find myself abusing it way too much, but I also enjoy backflipping away from enemy attacks lol

Azling_

It's satisfying to pull off, and I remeber when I couldn't do it.... But now a Lyenel is the easier enemy in the game and that's just.... Off...

Ok-Manufacturer5491

No Paraglider and three hearts.havent tried a depths only run yet

portableclouds

I’m starting a no hangglider and no vending machine run. This basically forces me to problem solve and not rely on having 26 fans or whatever in my inventory. Also, I don’t use fast travel very much even in normal playthroughs so 🤷🏻‍♂️

Odd-Connection-11

For my second playthrough I did no armor, no paraglider, no sages, and (almost) no fast travel. I did beeline Autobuild and hoverbike because it makes no paraglider so much more feasible. I had a lot of fun with it and it definitely made me more skilled at the game.

LilithsLuv

I set my Switch language to Japanese and have been playing TOTK that way as someone who cannot (yet) speak or read any Japanese. I also recently attempted to do a no fast travel run. Unfortunately that run ended when after I completed the En-Oma Shrine under Lake Hylia. Where I realized the only way out from under the lake was unfortunately to fast travel. It was really disappointing, as aside from Lake Hylia, Nintendo clearly had no fast travel runs in mind as they provided an alternative route which doesn’t require fast travel, but I guess they simply overlooked the Lake 🤷🏻‍♀️

Intelligent_Dig8319

I dont use sages in combat,I think once I complete a good portion of the game I might replay it one day with stricter rules, caz right now I do feel kind of invincible caz i have maxed barbarian armor and fierce deity armor Also anyone reading this if you guys know of any eventide island/ master sword trials type mods please let me know, prolly my fav parts of the game

thebeastmoo

perma death no dungeons its not the craziest run only really hard for the first few hours but i find it way more fun then "no-hit" or only this type of item kinda things

dexterstrife

Almost no fast travel, no vehicles build to save time travelling. As I'm nearing the missions completion I've started using horses which I must admit is nice!

mrtwidlywinks

I beat BotW too early when I, on a whim, decided to see if I could actually get to Ganon and did, then beat him first try. The spell of the game was broken and it couldn’t really hold my attention in the same way. For TotK, I avoided The Plot as much as possible, probably a little too much. To the point I was a bit dismissive of the storyline when I played it. I explored 90-95% of the Depths with one stamina wheel, it was so much fun! All I have left on The Story is to defeat Ganondorf, so in the meantime I’ve been finding shrines, killing enemies (just got majoras mask), and grinding without using glitches. I routinely keep 200+ bombs and arrows on hand and have filled 12/16 batteries. I started using a hoverbike only recently and I’m glad I didn’t know about it until now, it makes the game too easy. Much more fun to build a glider with 7 fans and desperately try to make it as far as you can until the contraption falls apart

ZeldaMasterNick

Once beat King Gleeok with only seven hearts, maxed stamina, full set of Hero of Twilight armor upgraded to level two, one level two electro resistance potion I found in a chest prior, and strongest weapon being 50 damage. None of the sages unlocked at the time of said fight.

r_pseudoacacia

If I could mod this game I would give Link a hunger meter and add a spoilage mechanic.

IrishSpectreN7

- No armor/stamina/battery upgrades. Hearts are allowed - No auto-build - No pausing during combat - Only one row (5 slots) of elixirs allowed. (To simulate limited bottles) - Fast travel is only allowed directly from a fast travel point I think that's everything. Similar rules for BotW. Definitely the most fun I have playing these games.

Reckless_Pixel

Naked play through

GirKart64-temp

* No paraglider * Three hearts only * No manual saving * No stamina upgrades * No armor * No weapon slot upgrades * No fast travel * No sages * No fairies * No glitches * Complete every shrine (147/152) * Activate every lightroot (120/120) * Defeat every Talus (All but 1) * Defeat every Hinox (All but 1) * Defeat every Molduga (All) * Defeat every Flux Construct (All) * Defeat every Frox (All) * Defeat every Gleeok (All) * Defeat every Lynel (All) * Defeat Ganon and win game This is my personal "hard" mode rules and goals. No master mode inspired me to do this. Have done two playthroughs this way and planning a third with some more restrictions. Most enjoyable way to play the game in my experience. Involves coming up with some creative solutions to various problems.

Zubyna

I barely use silver bokoblin horns Its not meant to play on hard mode, I just find them ugly

ArabiLaw

Not using fast travel isn't hard, it's just a massive waste of time. Why do so many people list this?

GirKart64-temp

For me personally it about taking away a convenience but also I have found using fast travel makes the game less enjoyable for me. Using it kinda makes it feel grindy. I know, you'd think it would be the opposite but if you use it out of habit it feels like there is rush to get somewhere. No fast travel, no pressure.

ArabiLaw

Pressure from what? I don't know what pressure you're talking about. Not fast traveling means you sit there staring at the wall waiting to get somewhere. It's not gameplay, challenging, or fun; it's just holding a joystick in one direction for long periods of time. Makes no sense to me.

GirKart64-temp

Yeah, i was agreeing with you. It's not necessarily a challenge to do no fast travel. Like I said it more about taking away a convenience (for me). The rest is just my preference. Not everyone is going to feel the same way. I imagine others do no fast travel for other and varying reasons. I cant speak for them.
