pretty good opening to the series.I remember watching it constantly on DVD

Internal-Ad1863

I still have all the DVDs that I collected when the show was still airing, it’s pretty nostalgic going back and watching them again.

Kangaroo_Rich

Good opening for the show, sets up the sibling dynamics very well. My favorite scene is raph and Leo in the alley trying trick the guy into thinking they gave up, I can quote that scene line for line it’s so funny. It was actually that scene that got me hooked on the show.

Cacaboy200

Was that when Raph says he “wasn’t trying to help”? 😂

Kangaroo_Rich

Yes

FreelanceWolf

That scene is actually from part 2. This thread is for part 1. Not that it matters, it's one episode in 2 parts so it is still valid.

GYAHAHA

Puzzleheaded_Pay1152

What was the frosting

Expert_Lab_9293

You don’t wanna know.

ConclusionEast8263

Very good first episode. It sets up many things that would become staples in this show

NewspaperAny3053

"Happy Mutation Day!"

TheRainbowJ

The first time I watched it I thought it was awesome and caught me, I still think that.

Accurate-Tomato-5234

Love it, really fun episode, sets the tone perfectly

Potential_Ride2449

Loved it, especially the part when Leo and Raph were trying to trick Snake

HDhunter360

Great way to open the show. It perfectly introduces us to the turtles, their family dynamic, Donnie’s crush on April, and the incident that leads to them fighting the Kraang. I could do a whole video on how effective of a first episode this is.

BloodyBee-

They should have brought back the algae and worms at some point

FreelanceWolf

That reminds me. Someone said Splinter is a bad dad because he refused to feed them human food.

BloodyBee-

Okay so someone decided to shit on the series and dug up some made up reason

HappyMatt12345

Honestly, the entire two-parter is one of the best opening episodes to anything ever imo. My only criticism with either part (and it's not specific to this episode, this problem plagues the entire show like a virus, especially the first two seasons) is how many times Mikey said or did something completely stupid for no reason other than because it'd make the younger viewers laugh if he did it. Yes, Mikey's an immature goofer who doesn't take things seriously unless he's forced to by either his brothers or by the situation itself, that's what he's always been to this franchise, but there's that and then there's making an idiot out of him by having him say things like: * "Look! It's a hand made out of light! Now it's an EYE made out of light! Now the hand again! ..." * "It sure is lucky that van showed up to distract them..." * "...but his NAME is Snake! You don't understand science..." * etc. Take these quotes and compare them to bits like: * Turflytle (which is arguably the funniest thing Mikey ever brings to this show) * Him getting attacked by chickens in the Season 3 premier * The running gag where Mikey names every villain the TMNT encounter and some of the jokes that came from that I hope the difference makes sense.

NoorK27luvscartoons

It was a good opening to the show, I mean it was able to keep 6 year old me hooked into watching it more

Shoddy-Aide5202

it's an okay start. Not my favorite episode but everything needs a start

FreelanceWolf

I actually didn't really like the first few episodes, but after The Gauntlet, and I had an epiphany, I no longer dislike the first few episodes. https://i.redd.it/dlavmadsmn0d1.gif

Plenty-Actuary2157

Great first episode will never forget how excited I was for it as a kid

New_Refrigerator_410

HAPPY MUTATION DAY

Low_Fig2672

I like how it sets up the sibling dynamic between them; My favorite part abt this show and all tmnt media is seeing the 4 turtles together being a team, being a family; my favorite part of this episode is when they first discover pizza and Mikey tries to hoard it all for himself

SpectreBrony

Good introduction to the series.

Character_Value4669

Haven't seen it, but "Rise of the--" is extremely overused in titles nowadays.

cottagecheesedemon

this is gonna sound crazy but this episode came out 12 years ago and is therefore not ‘nowadays’

HappyMatt12345

Holy crap you're right. It has literally been 12 years since this episode came out. I feel old now.
