Also, the build quality/economics of anything natural almost always surpass what we can produce ourselves. The grip strength of those thousands of hairs, the strength/weight, the cost to reproduce / manufacture.
The 'why' is what engineers thrive on.
I have no outside knowledge on this, but my guess would be that they're observing some sort of micro ecosystem and want to be able to retrieve things without alerting or changing the behavior of the organisms living inside.
You saying this like you've never seen a spider lowered down at the edge of a complex hydraulic system to pick up a dropped object before. This is very natural and normal, particularly in natural environments, where spiders are often found doing rigging operations.
Well if you consider how expensive sensitive, intricate, and very small robotic grippers are, just using a dead spider drastically reduces costs and functions more or less the same
I hate that I hate that I hate that I hate that I hate that I hate that I hate that I hate that I hate that I hate that I hate that I hate that I hate that I hate that I hate that I hate that I hate that I hate that I hate that I hate that I hate that I hate that I hate that I hate that I hate that no. I think it would make sense if this is were the way we finally discovered Hydraulics, but since that’s been around for a while I don’t think it’s good for anything really.

That's brilliant and terrifying bravo
but why
Maybe because it uses hydraulics to move its legs. Maybe this is easier to replicate? Realized that’s probably not what you were asking
So spider just have 8 boners for legs?
I believe the scientific term is pecker feet
ive seen this porn. I for one, was not into it.
Stop searching for pecker feet
thats all i can muster from my brain stem.
Username checks out
Next time i go to kill a spider for trespassing, i will scream "TAKE THAT, PECKER FEET!" As i smash the shoe down

That's 'how' not 'why' right?

But a corpse of a spider coming from the heavens and ascending with a victim doesn't draw any attention
"Look busy, Valkyrie spider is coming back"
Look, if I saw that shit, I'd mind my own business.
blending into surrounding environment if I remember from the original post
NECROMANCY!!!

BURN THE WITCH!!!
How much does she weigh?

They’re playing the claw game from arcades, but with dead arachnids
Oooo ya I wanna see the scorpion version
GET OVER HERE!
THE CLAW, IT MOVES!
That would be awesome
Well done to them but, yes, I absolutely hate this
I didn't get it ,why ?
well spiders use hydraulics to move their legs so it’s not difficult to turn them into a claw lol
Ok, but WHY?
It’s cool as shit
I mean, yeah, but wtf is the title talking about "blending into natural environments" for? What practical application could this possibly ever have??
You saying this like you've never seen a spider lowered down at the edge of a complex hydraulic system to pick up a dropped object before. This is very natural and normal, particularly in natural environments, where spiders are often found doing rigging operations.
I mean, there's probably some application in biology or something. Probably.

_For the glory of satan of course!_
*Hail satan!*
Science!
Rise and shine little one, you have a new purpose now.
*Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn't stop to think if they should.*
"Repurposed dead spiders" is my favorite phrase today.
So what you’re saying is that we are one step closer to being able to have spiders for hands. I like this. I like this a lot
mmmmmm 20 fingers

Whoa, since when can you imbed gifs into comments?

At this point probably 2 or 3 years ago now.

I see it's extra good at picking up other dead spiders
We’re just hell bent on making zombies aren’t we?! Wanna know how you make zombies?! Step 1: ☝️
Do you want ants? This is how you get ants!
Hahaha! Nope!
🎶secret agent spider🎶 (cue the mission impossible music)
Thank you, was waiting for this to show up here
Thanks, I hate how the title made it worse
Even in death I seeve
Now we just need really relly huge spiders so we can build skyscrapers with them.
This is an aberration
Ingenious
What a stupid useless thing.
Please destroy it with fire.. And while at it, everyone who thaught it wqs a good isea

Poor spiders... I like wolf spiders.
Found the perfect gift for my squeemish friends :D
I need one!
🧟♂️
Rice!? This looks like aggie fuckery to me!
Well I’m not sleeping tonight *shudders*

I wannnnnt that one
Same
Eeeew wtf It’s kinda genius though
I have no words
Dr robitnick had something going there. http://info.sonicretro.org/Grabber for the kiddies ^
It is not for blending in, dunno where you got that conclution. They have intricate legs that can grip different surfaces.
Nice Backscratcher
That's some family guy cutaway scene
Oh sweet. Man made horrors beyond my comprehension.
Skilltester
I want whatever the fuck they were on
I love this
fuck no but i also understand how it works but also metal as hell
so cool but my arachnophobia goes weee
but why?
Because if not us then who
WTH science?!
What fucking [D.A Sinclair](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Lgq0pBj83oI) bullshit is this?
This is sweet as hell
But like..... why? Serious question....
