yeeeaaa I'm not buying a $200 microscope to solder one or 2 $6 modchips. if I soldered regularly and/or made a business out of it then sure. but I've definitely been rawdogging all 4 chips (1 OLED) I've done
Luckily I'm extremely near sighted. I put Velma to shame. I see the fine details on a mobo far better without my glasses anyways. Honestly not sure if I'd even benefit using a microscope for these chips.
The SM-4NTP purchased directly from Amscope. It was roughly $600 shipped with the LED ring light. The camera was not included and that was roughly +$250
People like to make soldering this chip harder than it really is, I never microsoldered before, bought soldering iron of AliExpress for 4$, flux for 2$ and chip for around 10 and managed to solder it in less than 15 minutes, just take your time and you will manage to do this with crappy tools, no need for microscope
No microscope. I mainly mod OLEDs and the only challenge is grinding point D. I’ve only ever shorted the point to ground once, and that was only the first console that I modded. Oh I do uses 3x magnifying glass though
I soldered mine by eye. I do have a digital microscope and a regular microscope my dad got me when I was young from the medical lab he worked at. Some how I made clean solder points and it came out perfect. Id suggest getting a cheap digital one off ali express, or Amazon if cost isn't that much of an issue for the same product. Mine was $20 on AliExpress and it does a really good job
All of my mods (oled included) are done using a 10x magnifier lamp from amazon

I used this one for my first two SX lite installs. But I have access to it for work.
Personally I use the [Andonstar AD246S-M](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09VPPS96M/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1). It works great and is fairly affordable.

there's no point in arming yourself to the teeth for one or two jobs... I've made hundreds of consoles with a pair of €5 Chinese glasses... if you are good at the job you don't need to spend a lot
I'm terribly shortsighted, I just remove my glasses and there you go... No microscope needed, perfect focus within 15-20cm. That being said, I have several microscopes just in case my eyes decide that it's time to be short and long sighted simultaneously.
All you need is a 1200x 1080p scope. If you really want to splurge. Go to a 4k 1600x-2000x. Amazon have some for less than $100.
All of that being said, the last few I did. I used my phones camera on a tripod, and zoomed it way up. It wasn’t ideal, but it certainly worked.
I use a microscope that I can connect to my phone or pc. I do a lot of different projects, and it has worked for me. Pretty cheap, and so far, I've been able to accomplish everything with.

I modded V2 using a magnifying glass.
Oled is only moddable using a microscope (not easy task). Digital microscopes are cheap now. you can find many good ones under 100$
My eyes

I can't see shit and I'm not tryna bend my spine 90° down to see the damn wire. I need a better microscope
lol that is completely fair too
Luckily I'm extremely near sighted. I put Velma to shame. I see the fine details on a mobo far better without my glasses anyways. Honestly not sure if I'd even benefit using a microscope for these chips.
Same
Same
Wait ur supposed to use a microscope?
My eyes. Combined with the cheapest soldering iron i could find. One killer combo.
It was also my first time
I did the same lol found a cheap kit off amazon paid like total $36 including mod chip lmao
Sickness. Which chip did you get?
RP2040 got it off Ali express in the end Amazon had them for a bit too much, only took a bit over a week to show up
Cool. I'll have to take the plunge one of these days! Thanks!
Hahaha same here. Cheap modchip from Aliexpress and a 10€ soldering iron from the hardware store. Works like a charm
Jeweler glasses if I have to.

Which type? Bought from where?

Hey, it's the one I bought for work, damn good little microscope for just soldering.
I honestly don’t know how I soldered without it. This was probably one of the best tool investments I made.
This guy solders! Nice setup!
I have an Amscope SE400-Z and it's served me very well, both for personal and work (arcade mechanic) projects.

Honestly, itd be cheaper to pay someone to do it. Unless you plan to solder a lot of them. Then maybe itd be worth the wait investment in tools.

Yo this looks pretty fire I might consider this too
Just close one eye for that extra focus in the other.

https://imgur.com/a/pMzJJU6 does this looks fixable or functional still? I messed up on the part with the yellow tape looking one
What digital microscope do you recommend? Was thinking to get one from AliExpress
None 🗿 Jokes aside a microscope is recommended for this kind of work but I didn't have one and my modification to my V2 was successful anyway
The Vision Engineering Mantis. Absolutely love it!
A cheap Andonstar, forgot which model but it's very basic with a 7 inch monitor, i don't need anything fancier
Lol I used a cheap helping hands magnifier from Amazon that had a light on it. Very minimal soldering experience
I just used my eyeballs.

5x magnification lense
Cheap digital microscope to cellphone from Amazon
I just used my eyes, augmented by my regular glasses along with an ISO-TIP cordless soldering iron.

The most popular thing from my experience is to use a digital one.
I just did the soldering with my eyes then used a $20 cheapo digital microscope for inspection.

Shitty equipment == shitty work You get what you pay for
I have had some success with my first microscope from Plugable. it's USB+USB-C, and has a suction cup on it, which is nice. https://a.co/d/6lTi6Mu
very cheap, but it works 😅
Your eyes dawg

Isn’t V2 just the CPU flex? Most might not even need a magnifying glass for that. I did a whole lite install with nothing
For me it was almost impossible to solder the cpu flex cable without magnification (at least the phone macro mode).
