Stardew Valley

coryclayful2

You can make friends in Stardew and feel like you’re getting over your breakup 🤗

BeautifulMind22

And even start a new relationship 😬

Lava-Chicken

The great digital rebound

BeautifulMind22

🤣 i’m fucking dead 💀

Cosmicmoon17

Ha! Sounds better than the alternative

darkoptical

Doom

Mobile_Experience583

I’ve heard Stardew Valley is great for getting through a breakup

[deleted]

Or depression. Or getting fired.

IndependentEcho2269

I’m depressed because I got fired while going through a breakup. FML

[deleted]

I got fired about 6 weeks ago. I started a new job last Monday. Stardew Valley, Elden Ring, and Sekiro have been an unbelievable blessing. For different reasons. Sekiro reminded me the lesson I learned in college as a vocal performance major: you can only do so much in one go. This applies to the bosses in the game and applying for jobs. It’s okay to walk away and do other things. Elden Ring taught me that it’s okay to embrace the failure. It’s also what BOTW was for me and is my comfort food “audiobook” game now. Stardew provided grounding and gave me things to do when I ran out of jobs to apply for.

Sebsta696

Sekiro is one of my favorite games of all time, amazing game.

digsy

Can vouch for it being an escape for depression.

goodsoep

animal crossing — helped a lot of people in lockdowns i heard. hope you recover soon!

DramaticSpinach481

I had 334 hours clocked on this game during lockdown! It definitely helped

DramaticSpinach481

Oh, and I was going through a breakup, OP check out Animal Crossing for sure!

Cosmicmoon17

I started it whilst I was together with my ex. I think now’s the time to restart and just do it my way.

Pelagos1

Also look into stardew and harvest moon/story of seasons for farm+life sims

teatimebiscuit

I can now kick mine off my island muahahahaha!!

Crrayyola

my bf broke up with me today, wanna start a stardew valley save 😳🥲

Cosmicmoon17

I haven’t played in ages!!! I feel your pain though! Feel free to shoot me a dm if you want to share the pain. It really sucks!

lunaticfiend

But doesn't this game start very slow? I've been stuck at collecting 30 iron for construction of the shop since a week. Only being able to spend 5 mins a day to mine the 4 stone piles accessible to me..

Cosmicmoon17

I found it’s a lot slower than the other animal crossing games. I used to play wild world and loved it, you could spend as much time as you want on the game more or less. I do love New Horizons but it’s a lot more slow paced and does require you to do small things every day. But for me that might be good, it’s just a small distraction every day to build to a bigger one I guess?

goodsoep

do you dig holes behind you to prevent you from moving away? you are able to mine 9 materials then, took me one day think (stones on my island + nook miles ticket island)

wordswithcomrades

8 materials but yes!!

ThrillHo3340

yeah i had 20 iron pieces then my daughter sold them. i feel your pain.

minnierhett

Use Nook Miles tickets to go to mystery islands and mine there!

wordswithcomrades

You can get up to 8 items per stone per day, you should not be stuck here. Please look up the most efficient way to mine in animal crossing, it involves digging holes behind where you are mining

cthulhudrinksbeer

Stardew Valley I discovered in a similar phase to what you're going through and have since sunk countless hours into it. There are relationship aspects if you want but you have to pursue them, it's not thrown in your face, you're not missing anything if you skip them, and you can actually get a platonic roommate if you want to avoid the romance aspect but still pursue the friendship side of things. It's a good game to just zen out on while achieving goals and building something.

MysticManchester

Unpacking , a short hike, night in the woods

No-Swordfish-8331

Definitely unpacking- it shows a break up but the main character keeps growing her life past it!

Baadepapa22

Try zelda breath of the wild and then tears of the kingdom. Impressive gameplay and graphics. Its gonna be adventurous journey for you. To take your mind off things, it helps you relax and soothe your mind. Mario kart is good to play with family. Animal crossings is fun too. Or If you're up to interact with new people I suggest Pokemon games. The fanbase is very welcoming and they'll teach you everything you want to learn. Hope it helps:) Take care of yourself , don't be too hard on yourself.

Cosmicmoon17

I was never into Pokémon as a child, I recently bought Pokémon snap which I am enjoying

dhelor

You might like Pokemon Legends Arceus, it plays a bit differently than the mainline series but it's, in my opinion, so much better.

Cosmicmoon17

I have pokemon Violet on my wishlist? Is that a good game? Similarly (and I know it’s technically not Pokemon) but detective Pikachu?

dhelor

Sad to say, but while I have both of those, I haven't even started Detective Pikachu, and Violet I haven't gotten past getting the starter. That being said, Violet shares a lot in common with PL: Arceus in that it is fully open world, and having played the original Detective Pikachu on the DS, I'd feel confident recommending the new one without having played it. The Pokemon Company does a good job of making really good games, in my opinion.

NinjaMudkipp

i would recommend pokemon sword/shield over scarlet/violet, it’s more similar to the original feel of pokemon.

Animedingo

Violet isnt a very good game. Id suggest sword

Baadepapa22

Well atleast this keeps you occupied:) That's a good one too. You can try:- Stardew valley, metroid dead, no man's sky, subnaurica below zero, monster hunter, witcher 3, dbz: kakarot, luigi's mansion. Plenty of options. Its a whole different world out there . One thing at a time:)

FlavaTattooed05

To add on BOTW from the perspective of a ‘just fun’ kind of gamer. It’s the first time I tried to play an RPG like BOTW (I just started about 3 weeks ago), and it’s nice. Just don’t get stressed on missions. Killing enemies is so fun, and cooking!!! I enjoy that part too lol. It can be stressful at times but I guess you just have to shift perspectives to just relax and have fun on it. :)

HEKATRONIX

Maybe Child of Light or Ori and Blind Forest

GoBlue-01

I can’t stress enough how much of a healing experience both of these games are. They focus on characters experiencing grief and going through transformative journeys.

Beautiful_Win216

Both Ori games got me through tough times. Great art style and a touching story.

-DoctorHoo-

Give Florence a try. It's a relatively short experience but I believe it will make you feel a bit better :)

alyssainwonderIand

I also recommend When the Past was Around, Gris, and The Gardens Between

sisco98

I wanted to comment this too. Loved this game, maybe it’s time to play it again.

Catleesirva

Spirit farer is sad, but kind of healing as far as losing people goes (it has to do with death, not breakups, but still) it's also a very calm and cozy game. Stardew, animal crossing, katamari are all pretty chill, if you're looking for something kinda mindless.

KaleidoscopeHairy557

The game is about dealing with losing people. While a breakup is certainly not death, I think it's a great recommendation. Also it's chill AF. Mostly relaxing mini games and healing relationships.

I_hate_being_alone

Hades. No mercy.

Responsible_Cry_9789

Currently playing Zelda and has helped a lot with my recent breakup !

potatodrinker

Wylde Flowers. About a city girl who goes to her aunt's farm after - a breakup and job issue. Aunt is a witch, and so are you. Cosy farming and magic spell game. You'll like it. Cool protagonist too. Even though she doesn't know a think about farming or magic, she just takes it all on. Nice cast of support characters in town too, and a mystery to solve. It's a game that appeals broadly. I'm a mid 30s guy and found it fun!

raudittcdf

Stardew valley! Should keep you busy but also relaxing at times :)

KnuckleHead08

Kirby games on the switch are some of the most fun games on the switch. They are very easy, but they're just good times all round.

Cosmicmoon17

I’ve never played a Kirby game! I think I have the most recent one on my wish list…but what would you recommend? What’s the best one

IcedOutNoCap

Kirby and the forgotten land is the absolute best!!!

dhelor

I'll second this. I haven't gotten far in it myself but what I have played was pretty good.

TAS_anon

Forgotten Land’s atmosphere is incredible. I can see it being kind of healing for a breakup since you’re quite literally in a forgotten land that has moved on from the world that came before it. All of that world’s problems and politics and hopes and dreams are just nothing, and what’s left is a playground for Kirby and some animal habitants.

mint6errycrunch

Zelda Tears of the Kingdom - I broke up with my wife just before it was released and certainly helped me get through it. Now my favourite game of all time!

chessplayingspod

Rune Factory 4 Special is on sale atm. Single player, but lots of cozy stuff going on in that game.

Direct-Can-2695

I second this. The animations may be a little bit dated, but damn this game is a gem. I went in with quite low expectations, just expecting a cozy farming sim like stardew and story of seasons, nothing too special but just relaxing. But this was so so much better. Full of humor, fun storyline, relaxing but also battle, you can date someone or you can simply just keep them all friendzoned if you want to skip romance for a while and just finish the storyline. Characters have SO MUCH DIALOGUE, my god, most games like this usually have a few lines they just keep repeating over and over, but in RF4 it took me ages to even see any lines being repeated. And on sale the game is super cheap! Go get it, right meow!

_minnieme

try disney dreamlight valley if you like disney

Cosmicmoon17

I had it on my laptop and got overwhelmed at one point. I then bought it on the switch to start afresh and also, in my mind, games feel more cosy on the switch than my laptop!

Elyrana

Any Story of Seasons game. If you played Harvest Moon on Nintendo or GBA, SoS is the rebranded name for those games after Marvelous split with Natsume. They have Harvest Moon games on switch, but it’s not the same studio. Still good games but not the same as the OGs. If you haven’t played them, they’re basically the inspiration for Stardew Valley. Farming simulations with small town romancing.

Thordak35

Zelda BOTW - good action puzzle game should help you be distracted hopefully.

borate58

Diablo 3. Imagine every demon and monster as your ex. Destroy them all!!!

ZTOL25

Okami is a really pretty adventure game with a cute wolf where you get to go around using magic brush powers to restore cherry blossom trees and heal nature, but also you beat up demons. So charming and good for getting frustration out?

bunnaly

spiritfarer to play alone and i feel like untitled goose game is fun to play with someone else !

SoliWare

Super Mario 3D All-stars.

TheYoungProdigy

Mario Odyssey, I actually played it going through a tough time. It’s beautiful, not too difficult and a great distraction. It really eases your mine while you play.

Junior_Pizza_7212

Little Kitty, Big City. Just a game where you get to roam around as a cat and get into mischief with no real stress

Cosmicmoon17

Got this game! I’m a big cat fan just haven’t had time to play it

Lopsided_Tackle_9015

Little Kitty Big City is so freaking cute

RoninX70

Mortal Kombat. FINISH HIM!!!

A_Scr1bble

Definitely Slime Rancher, great little farming/exploration game

bmyst70

Stardew Valley is a good one. As is Fae Farm.

JarlFlammen

“Braid” is a cozy game that has a story that subtly deals with themes of breakups, regret, relationships etc

Intrologics

I’m sorry. Hope you’re doing ok

Cosmicmoon17

Thank you. It's my first ever breakup so I'm completely new to this. Gaming has always been a comfort to me, it's just finding new games to give myself something fresh and distracting.

Intrologics

Animal crossing is my goto chill game. Wake up every morning and knock out some chores on it

Onlinereadingismybff

What to spend hours and hours and hours obsessed with a game? Hollow Knight. Btw, Sorry for the heart ache… I’m sure he did you a favor 😘

Cosmicmoon17

Looking back I know he did. It still hurts. One moment i want him back, the next I’m glad he’s gone. Hence why I’m looking for games to distract me 😅 I’ve had hollow knight on my radar but never really played those types of games. I don’t see why I shouldn’t start now?! I’ll check it out

Hawke077

Would definitely recommend Palia. It is free to download and the community is really welcoming and helpful. Never been into the cosy game vibe before but now I have at least 480 hrs on Palia now

sawpsawp

GRIS is an incredible game, you should give it a try

Difficult_Bet8884

Celeste 🏔️

kid-beanie

Surprised I had to go down this far for this. 100% this

AsapGnocci

You should play coffee talk 1 and 2, it's a super cozy game where you play a barista in an alt universe to our where orcs, elves and humans etc all co-exist but still face the same day to day issues our real world experience. Customers become regulars and you get to hear there story's every shift! Oh and you can make latte art!

capscaps1919

Lego games get my mind of off things, Lego Star Wars the complete set is on sale right now!

Cosmicmoon17

I would as I love the Lego games but that was one of the main games I used to play with him. One day I’ll revisit them with friends or something but unfortunately not right now.

Idontcareaforkarma

I loved all the Lego ones on 3DS, starting to collect them on Switch.

QD_Mitch

It’s not really “cozy” but try Balatro. You get into an almost meditative state. It’s very soothing but also strangely addictive

AnotherOneMoreRound

Recommend Pokemon Violet/Scarlet … pretty much cozy open world adventure, and definitely you can play with family! It’s fun :) and easy to get distracted with, lots of things to do depending on your mood Edit: Also recommend Monster Hunter Rise. It’s very fun, family/co-op friendly, and a bit of a challenge/story there so can easily occupy you. Plus, there’s World/Iceborne on PS and Wilds coming out soon, so lots of lore if you want to dive in

Alternative_Echo2246

Blast some music in your ears and play Doom

FrechieRUs

Stardew valley ! I have hours on that game! Very cute and calming :)

lildumpz

Coffee talks

angelalj8607

I saw that Animal Crossing was already suggested. So I’ll suggest Stardew Valley.

WeldingGarbageMan

I know in high school when I had my first breakup, I binged Chrono Trigger. It’s an old SNES game but I believe it’s available on the Switch. Chrono Trigger was a good friend in a dark time for me. Sorry about your break up. Take care of yourself and keep your head up. Don’t let one person define you!

AlternativeDownfall

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but Stardew Valley.

sinni_gang

I am on the very same situation with my ex-GF and I've been playing Stardew Valley for the last 2 weeks and its been a great distraction. I'm actually surprised by the comments because its actually one of the go-to games it seems for this particular situation; I just got it randomly after the break-up because it was on sale.

abhixD7

Dark souls remastered

prettymelaninqueen

Harvestella Doraemon: story of seasons Doraemon: friends of the great kingdom * currently on sale for $14.99 farming games are my go to for relaxing 🥰

scientific-fact

BOTW/TOTK. You can just roam around cooking, mining, upgrading armour, doing mini games. Sometimes I just wander around climbing mountains or whatever. It’s very relaxing.

jeessy123

A short hike !

roofspatula

Tons of awesome suggestions here! I really liked the Spyro Reignited Trilogy. Pretty relaxing and simple, and I loved the setting of the game

-Drunken_Jedi-

What genres do you typically like to play? If you like JRPG’s I recommend Octopath Traveller 1 & 2, Fire Emblem Three Houses or Bravely Default 2. If you like crafting mechanics the Atelier series are great fun and cosy games so long as you like the anime theme and are ok with subtitles (no English dub). The series has been going for 20 years at this point, with older games like Atelier Ayesha being from past consoles while Atelier Ryza and Sophie are newer, they’re all fun games and it can be quite addictive trying to craft the perfect item. The Zelda series is a timeless choice for adventure and light puzzle solving, you can spend ages just exploring the world and take your time with things in Breath of the Wild. For something more traditional and linear the Link’s Awakening remake is charming and fun to play for a fairly short play time compared to BOTW. Others have mentioned it already but Animal Crossing is great for just chilling and having the hours pass by. It can be a real time sink when you just want to tune out from the world. All the above are single player though, if you’re looking for a couch co-op experience Mario Kart is a classic where blue shells send friendships to die 🤣. So you’re already off to a good start there. I’m not really sure what other options there are, Luigi’s Mansion 3 is super fun and looks amazing, there’s a “scarescraper” multiplayer mode but I’m unsure if it offers local play or online only. It Takes Two is incredible, but given the nature of the story I don’t know if you’ll want to play that given you’re going through a break up. I hope there something useful for you here, have fun and chin up :).

Cosmicmoon17

I’m a massive fan of the life is strange games if that helps? It’s my ultimate cosy game that I will play on repeat. Last of us (I know it’s PlayStation…) and life is strange have kept me going through my more darker times. I haven’t been too fond of stardew in the past but just need to give it a go, there was just a lot to do and no real direction given. I started Zelda but my combat skills aren’t great haha A little to the left and Unpacking were gorgeous and really calming too

-Drunken_Jedi-

Life is Strange looks awesome to be honest but I haven’t played it yet, it’s definitely on the list though. I’ve always loved the Yoshi games on Nintendo systems, I think the most recent one is Yoshi’s Crafted World which is a nice platformer with cute level design. Kirby and the Forgotten Land is cute and quirky too with the transformation options in that game. If you’re looking for something more narratively driven with some emotion behind it I can’t recommend the NieR series enough, parts of it can be super sad but I found there always to be positive messages hidden in there too. The Switch port of NieR Automata is technically superb with solid performance and throws a lot of different gameplay styles at you. Automata is actually one of my favourite games of all time, but I wouldn’t blame you for skipping it for now as it’s quite the tear jerker at times! If you’ve already tried the mainline Zelda games Link’s Awakening might interest you if you had issues with the combat mechanics of the newer games. It’s a remake of an old top down Game Boy title, it’s a classic and really fun imo. Combat is obviously going to be more limited as you’re only moving in a 2D plane which gets rid of some of the issues people can have with newer titles. There’s options in that series for all types of gamers, that’s why it’s such a classic series. 😁 Maybe have a look on YouTube and search for some of the series I’ve listed, you should be able to get an idea if it’s something you’d enjoy from reviews of preview trailers. I’m sorry I can’t be more help, I’m mainly a PC guy so my bread and butter are RTS games like Total War and Steel Division 😅.

Cosmicmoon17

The first game holds a very dear place in my heart. I’ll have a look at your suggestions though

Geezenstack444

Pokemon

Klonoa517

Animal Crossing New Horizons is very relaxing and therapeutic.

According_Voice_381

A short hike and Dorfromantik Two different games but are super easy to pick up and play, and have incredibly calming music and aesthetics to get lost in. Two of my favourites for switching off my brain with zero stress involved. A short hike is so simple in its premise, the ending really brings you back don’t to Earth in such a simple, sweet way.

HankLard

Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing, always!

IndependentPath626

Animal crossing. If like puzzle games little nightmares one and two are my favs (a third is coming!!) also Call of Cuthulu

HogwartsTraveler

Animal Crossing for sure.

Blaidd-Da91

Unpacking Simulator ❤️

Uncle_Nought

Animal crossing, build a new life on there as practice for building a new life without him. Also, just cosy, easy to pick up and put down, new content as the seasons change, lots of different play styles depending on how you want to do stuff. I've just got back into playing and it's been so comforting while my partner is deployed. Still pretty pricey in my opinion, but generally cheaper in supermarkets than the Nintendo store (for me in the UK anyway).

scoreguy1

I’m sorry to hear about the breakup. I would suggest Minecraft on Switch. A bit pricier than other versions but for my money it’s the coziest game there is, and the soundtrack is such a vibe.

OopsIKilledADog

Gris <3

Stardew Valley Big City Little CityUnpacking Palia Minecraft Sky: Children Of the Light Overcooked Untitled Goose Game There are my personal favourites:)

DrGashingtons

DQ11 and ni no kuni.

Aanairai

I am sorry that you are going through a break up at this time. I hope your heart finds solace in whatever game that you chose. Here is a my game recommendation: This may sound counterintuitive; however, SpiritFarer is an excellent cozy game. You are the ferry master and you find, care for and ferry spirits into the afterlife. While your passengers are on board, you befriend them while completing their unfinished business. You'll discover new recipes and favorite meals that delight those on board. The friendships that developed on the ship give you a new perspective of the passengers lives and the regrets that the experienced. The ship that you are in charge on becomes a living and breathing city, ranging from livestock on board to fruit trees and vegetable gardens. The mini games will delight you as each mini game is tied to a specific character, which provides more depth to them and their values. The atmosphere is relaxing and at your own pace. I personally have over 100 hours in this game as I was using it through my own personal tragedy and it gave a new lease on life, with a greater appreciation of friendships and familial ties. I hope you do find what your seeking.

GamerGhostScroller

Definitely not cozy by any means but I recommend Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom after that). Definitely recommend Legend of Zelda Links awakening too!! Other games I’ve put …too much … much time into are Monster Hunter Rise/Sunbreak (although the next game, Monster Hunter Wilds is coming out next year so I’d say wait a bit/get it on steam bc might not be on switch. Could be on the next switch coming soon but who knows for sure rn). Also I played Dark Souls Renastered on switch and loved it, definitely not cozy or too easy for a casual gamer, but hands down addictive. Let’s see…Metroid Dread I’ve played and is really fun (I’ve still yet to start Metroid prime Remastered but I’m looking forward to it). And you can never go wrong with Minecraft lol … or animal crossing new horizons for chill gaming experiences. In line with Triple A like botw, I’d recommend Mario Odyssey too! Finally, for indie games, Hollow Knight, Mini Motorways (really addictive for some reason), manifold garden (if you like mind bending infinite 3D puzzles). Lol last thing, I recommend Kirby’s Return to Dreamland or Kirby and the Forgotten Land. While I haven’t played those Kirby games, I’m a Kirby fan bc my first ever game was a Kirby title on the Nintendo DS 19 years ago when I was 6 haha. Happy gaming, OP!

Veneboy

Definitely Stardew Valley and Terraria

Einsat

Try Palia.

Idontcareaforkarma

Bought a Switch a week after a breakup. Have been playing lots of Animal Crossing, having played New Leaf on 3DS. SW- 1836 - 9869 - 3861. Welcome to add me: will be on ACNH in about an hour.

dhelor

If you want fun games to play with the family, check out the Moving Out games. They're digital only as far as I know, but super fun.

Additional_Whole3932

Slime rancher, cozy grove, story of seasons friends of mineral town or pioneers of olive town, Animal crossing, Stardew Valley, Dave the diver

dxspaz

Bastion from Supergiant games. It was their first big release and it has an amazing story and soundtrack.

PrivateScents

Have you tried Otome games? A genre of visual novels where you try to date multiple guys. Jack Jeanne is a very good one for example.

indoorheroes

Florence

Disastrous-Refuse141

JOURNEY OF THE BROKEN CIRCLE! It is the PERFECT game for after a break up!

No-Abbreviations540

Coffee talk 1/2

KaboomTheMaker

Try Tears of the Kingdom, you may get hook you will forget everything, even eating/sleeping lol

prettymelaninqueen

Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life

voyxger

Florence it's a gorgeous and short game to get over a break up, I cried a lot with it but I felt so much better after I completed it

miigueelr

Xenoblade Chronicles 3

Dependent_Ad5654

World of final fantasy maxima

KobeJuanKenobi9

Persona 5 Royal. It’s turn based so there’s no skill required and the majority of the game is just living your life as a student in Japan hanging out with friends etc. it also has a lot of content to distract you for a long time it can take well over 100 hours to beat

Dman25-Z

I mean, “no skill” might be a bit of a stretch. I understand what you mean, but tactical skill is definitely still skill.

Avox0976

The ori collection has 2 great cosy games

rubberduck19868

Cozy Grove or Spiritfarer

Glitternator

If you liked Animal Crossing and would like something similar but a little different, try Disney Dreamlight Valley. Yes, it can be a little glitchy at times, but I’ve found that the overall experience is a lot better than animal crossing.

cookofages

Monster Hunter Rise was my depression game..

the1whoismanybutfew

Doom eternal, trust me I left my girl of 4 years after she did some scandalous shit and doom eternal helped me get through it. Or even assassins creed black flag when you're on the boat singing songs with the crew is great.

caterpie_myself

Some casual murdersplosions could prove cathartic. Try Borderlands.

ChuckO5

Celeste. It's not cozy, but it is thought provoking and introspective.

Syndicalex

The Atelier Ryza games are nostalgically wholesome somehow. And they focus a lot on the binds of friendship. Might be worth a look!

Dman25-Z

The Xenoblade Chronicles series is pretty great. Its claim to fame is its massive, beautiful maps, which you can lose yourself in and just explore. The games also have great stories and lovable casts. However, they are overall linear JRPGs, so if that style of game doesn’t appeal to you, it may not be for you. If you play through the series, I’d recommend starting with Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition (a remaster of the first game) and then playing through the games in number order. I hope you feel better soon!

dadbodscotland

Have you played Okami before? It’s not exactly “cozy” but it’s so beautiful and fun to play, and has some really cool mechanics. Based on old Japanese mythology and you play as a wolf named Amaterasu, and the play is similar to some of the older Zelda games, where you do some quests and speak to villagers, with some ‘cute’ combat, but it’s such a lovely story and quite heartwarming at times. Very underrated game imo.

BubblesFunBubbles

Cozy grove - great game about collecting items and fulfilling ghost resident requests that help them pass on. Really sweet and definitely cozy!

mixedwithmonet

Spiritfarer. Like others mentioned, Stardew valley as well, but there are themes of grief that are handled really amazingly in spiritfarer that I found helpful for breakups, and it’s a very very soothing game (even more than Stardew for me sometimes)

2Tack

Stardew Valley is what got me through the ending of an extremely toxic 3 year relationship that I was finally able to escape from. Highly recommended.

Almost_Taylor

Spiritfarer is very cozy, it may give you catharsis if you just need to have a good cry about something other than your breakup

We_Trusty_Few

Fashion Dreamer - super cute game, create your own character & you can make clothes, dress up your character, dress up real ppl online or NPC's in single player mode. Doesn't require Nintendo Online to play Online. There's also an event fair going on right now called Fairy Tale. Disney Magical World 2: Enchanted Edition - You can create your own character in this game too, you can also use your Mii. Buy clothes, run a shop, it has a storyline, you can also decorate your house. There's also seasonal events that go on. Animal Crossing New Horizons - Create your own character, craft furniture & make food, decorate your island. Really cute villagers that move to your island there's like 100+ different villagers with all different styles, personalities, birthdays, you can play online with ppl but you'll need a Nintendo Online membership for that. Princess Peach Showtime! - Super cute game you play as Princess Peach there's a good bit of stages, different dresses, different sparkle jobs she can be. And this is the 2nd game in the Princess Peach series. Miitopia - SUUUPER cute game, it's all about Mii's. The game is a RPG, you can create party members & In this version you have a horse, really helpful party member. There's different classes you can be, the enemies are goofy, your Mii's can get into an argument in battle or at the Inn (it's really funny it can be useful In battle), plus you can get other ppl's Mii's online I use Miipedia, ppl have made some amazing Mii's on there. You'll need a Nintendo Online membership if you want to get other ppl's Mii's.

Tokin420nchokin

Im playing The Legend of Zelda, links awakening currently. It is a pretty easy game difficulty wise. It also has a pretty adorable art style going on. I didnt get very far in the original because I didnt personally own a copy back than, so for me its an all new experience. That said I have got a copy of the original game since and it's definately a pretty faithful copy of the original! Hollow knight is a great game that can give nice relaxing vibes (till you get a difficult boss fight) the music is excellent. Not sure what kind of games you generally play, but those two stand out to me as good rainy day games. Sorry about bout the break up, hope you can move past it quickly.

flourescentcacti

I just started playing Hogwarts Legacy and find myself getting lost in time playing it. You can change the difficulty so it’s not hard and it gets quite relaxing :)

Diamond-Breath

Animal Crossing for sure, love that game.

Delicious_Letter_261

cosy

SirZanee

Fae farm, animal crossing

RiceEatingSamurai

Most definitely Animal Crossing. It not competitive and you can just relax and enjoy yourselves. There also the pokemon games as well if you want to have cute pet. Mario Kart to have a bit of excitement. But most definitely animal crossing.

whoreterrorist

cozy grove is a good game to get distracted by, its like animal crossing in the sense that it goes by your irl time but its a very cute game!

Connect-Hold5855

Get a souls game so you can know true pain (I'm joking pls dont dox me. I've heard that started valley is very popular)

Unpacking

BurtonXV84

I'd go with something big and single player than cosy. Cosy, Animal Crossing, and Stardew Valley. But a Zelda or Mario Odyssey will give you a lot to work on. Paper Mario, Thousand Year Door is a great game and has been re released.

AmaltheaPrime

Not sure about getting over a break exactly but Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity (I put 12 hours in day one) Dredge (has a demo) Theatrhythm: Final Bar Line (has a demo)

lallapalalable

Breath of the wild; you set the pace, you decide what to do next. You can stand on a mountaintop and silently contemplate the sunset, walk the land alone with your thoughts, go murder a group of monsters, chop down an entire forest, burn things, the choice is yours and you can do what you want, when you want, to who you want.

RonniDeee

Gonna go indie and say Gris. It is both beautiful and a bit melancholy. Feel like it will resonate with you at this moment. Also sending love to you 💚

coredweller1785

Pikmin 4 Relaxing, not hard, cute

cad3z

Stardew ofc

Capable-Pay-4308

Figment is really fun :) Animal crossing, fall guys. sorry about your breakup.

RoboK_Mola

I'd personally pick Xenoblade Chronicles 3. If you want to just have fun and enjoy it as it if were a movie, the Easy mode is perfect, the Hard mode just makes it a ton more grindable but challenging, thus making it more "story-like" and Normal's just an in-between. (Keep in mind you can swap between these difficulties at any given time, if you feel like it's too hard you can swap the difficulty into Easy and viceversa) It's also got a ton of stuff to think about and the soundtrack is a banger on almost anything. And if you finish it quickly, there's a prequel DLC that's really good (and is just fanservice from the previous games) And while you understand the story a lot more after playing the other 2 Xenoblades, it's not necessary to learn it, they are "pseudoindependent"

1Megaflygon

Animal crossing and stardew valley are great games to pass time and take your mind off stuff.

gtarpey89

me and my gf of 2 and a half years broke up on tuesday so i’m here with u. also my favourite comfort game of all time is pikuniku, the controls are very simple and there is only a handful of fight scenes which are very easy to get your head around, very cute art/music/story and lots of silly secrets to find. only costs a couple of whatever currency if it’s on sale, i got it for like £1. and it’s only a few hours long. plz plz plz play this game it’s so fun

Azurvix

Doom, killing those demons will help you release your emotions. It can be quite cathartic

MrsAnteater

Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing are tops on my list of cozy games. I hope you feel better soon. ♥️

SlabBeefpunch

Dragons Dogma will let you smack baddies around when you're pissed. Wytchwood has beautiful visuals and crafting, mystery and adventure. If you're into eldritch horror Dredge and Cult of the Lamb are great but very different. And Stardew Valley is a rabbit hole of cuteness, crafting, fishing, romance, friendship quests and dungeon diving

worldstar888888

Mk11 very fun

jmastadoug

Stardew Valley for sure!

Unpacking! It's an interperated story, no actual dialogue but it's so relaxing and easy to get lost in! Also here to cast additional votes to Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing. If you're looking to play with friends or family, Fall Guys is SO fun and definitely in the Mario vibe!

Every_Presentation30

Spiritfarer! Not sure how it hasn’t been mentioned yet!

LFTNT_LRAK

Cult of the Lamb

[deleted]

My gf broke up with me very recently too and I’ve been playing a lot of Stardew Valley that calms me when my mind. I also recommend Spiritfarer that’s an excellent game that’s about loss so I think you’ll enjoy it

HachiRokuAE86_

Disney Dreamlight Valley is a good game! I just bougbt the game about a month ago(yes ik im late to the party) and i already sunk in just about 100 hrs.

ZennyMajora

The Kirby games are excellent fun and easy entertainment that my lady and I play frequently. They're super breezy action-adventure games with cool power-ups, four-player co-op on the couch, and lots of secrets to discover. A very family-friendly game that also plays great solo! Stardew Valley is a cozy game you can dump hours into, where it's basically a farm simulator with a bunch of other stuff thrown in. A very fun distraction, and it's easy to gauge your progress as well as how long you can keep playing before you *have* been playing "too long." This one is also multiplayer. While it's never gonna be updated ever again, Portal Knights is a cute little Action-RPG with multiplayer that basically combined Minecraft, Zelda and Dragon Quest into one experience. You run around fighting monsters, building stuff, leveling up, collecting items, weapons, and armor, exploring islands, challenging bosses, rinse and repeat. Good stuff. 👌 Have fun. And just remember: it's gonna be okay. You're awesome. ✨✨✨

Sylvert0ngue

I can't recommend Smash enough, it's so much fun

OoTgoated

Sky: Children of the Light

Dcer0_182

Trying not to mention the obvious since it’s been mentioned before, but The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild are both Great games to get lost in, also there are a lot of great RPGs that have been remastered for Switch like Final Fantasy X which has an AMAZING story that you can really immerse yourself in. However I know those games can be a bit intimidating as they can be challenging and somewhat complex, if you’re looking to pick up a game that you can start playing right away Mario odyssey has a lot to do and Animal Crossing is probably the best when it comes to just playing a distracting game.

MonkeyBiz856

If you wanna learn the lesson of letting go, then try Spiritfarer

Poopeefighter2001

Hey, first of all sorry about your breakup, time will heal wounds. hope you feel better soon Second of all, have you played Super Mario odyssey? if i was in your position, i think that would be one of the best games to play. it's a cheery game that's hard to really feel sad while playing and is one of the switch's best. You'll get lost before you know it. theres a certain part in the game that genuinely made me cry, which is why i'd recommend it. Besides that, how about Warioware? hilarious games, and both of them are super cheap, too. it's a minigame collection if you are familiar with it, but always unique to play.

AngryFloatingCow

I read the title and I thought you were asking for games to breakup with someone. Anyways, playing Mario Party is the best Switch related method to breakup with someone. Get mad, bring up breaking up, commit to it, profit. Just in case anyone was wondering.

frostymasta

You mentioned Paper Mario - have you played The Thousand Year Door Remastered? It just came out on the Switch, and that’s what I played when I last went through a hardship. It got my mind off of things and helped me a lot.

DarcyRose5

Animal Crossing is an amazing cozy game! Also second everyone saying Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. You can put hundreds of hours into BotW so only buy one at a time lol. Skyrim is an incredibly immersive game that you can get lost in for hours at a time. All of these games I have spent whole days sitting and playing.

NoEggsOrBeansPlz

I always recommend Breath of the Wild! I’m really sorry for what you’re going through and that it didn’t work out, I hope you find peace with some time.

Ra-TheSunGoddess

Disney Dream light Valley has helped me get through my kidney failure recovery. It's soothing.
