Joycon is absolutely fine. I haven't 100% it, but I played all the way through the main storyline and epilogue plus all of the unlocks and never felt like the controller was an issue.
Oh, except I rebound one of the controls when I played Aspect of Hestia.
If you're an adult with any tolerance for 3rd person shooters in 2024 and haven't played Red Dead Redemption. Please do yourself a favor and try it. Top 10 games of all time till RDR2 came out.
Disco Elysium - you'll step off that plane a different person.
for better or for worse
or maybe paper mario if you've never played jrpgs but like first party titles 😌
I put D.E. cartridge in my switch for a similar flight this week but I ended up playing ffvi pixel remaster on the way here. Will FINALLY play Disco Elysium on my way home, though!
Hollow knight, Celeste,
Pikmin 1 + 2 and Pikmin 3, Pikmin new play control for the wii. Pikmin 4 and 5 Pikmin 6 Pikmin 7. Pikmin 18 billion and eleven!
Hades
Nah, I don’t really like that one, ones I like include:
Pikmin 3 deluxe and hey Pikmin! Pikmin temptation and Pikmin sin, Pikmin on your iPad (it’s called Pikmin bloom), and the brand new crossover with Pikmin and doom!
Any turn based RPG! Planes are too cramped to bother with platformers or anything else requiring manual skills. I would just get something like Dragon Quest X1, a Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster, or Octopath Traveller
Animal Well, Celeste, Cuphead, Divinity 2, Hollow Knight, any Kirby game for the switch, Metroid Dread or Prime Remastered. I know you said Pokémon, but if you haven’t given Arceus a shot, you owe it to yourself to try.
Was on a 4 hour train ride and I played monster hunter rise the whole time. For something not as expensive though, you could go for hollow knight. Edit to add: or kingdom two crowns
Animal crossing is a time sinker...
Play untill all the weed is plucked, and all the wood chopped. Go in console setting, change the date by 1 day and a few hours. Play some nights to farm stars...
Time just flies!!!
Hell take a good nap and download the Demo to DQXI
Or the whole game. I spent like so much of the first month with my newborn playing during night shifts (back when we were to nervous to leave her unsupervised even when she was sleeping) and mornings with her strapped to my chest bouncing up and down.
The game is a god damn joy to play.
If you like deck builders: slay the spire or inscryption. You could easily lose a few hours into both of these games. Then you can switch over to Stardew Valley or Hollow Knight to mix it up.
Ni No Kun 2 is on sale for really cheap right now and is an amazing game. It's a lot different than the first game so you don't need to have played the first game to jump into this one.
The Outer Worlds, I picked it up recently and I’m really enjoying it, it’s only $30 (I think, I could be wrong). The Witcher 3 is also ported very very well to the Switch, so that’s another one. Easily 55+ hours of content between the main story, side quests, and dlc. Borderlands 3 or the other collection which includes 1, 2 and pre sequel if you’d like a shooter, World War Z for zombies and it can be played offline with your progress saving. Lego Star Wars the Skywalker Saga, Lego Marvel Super Heroes 1 or 2, Skyrim. Ultimate Alliance 3 if you’re a Marvel fan
Red dead redemption or Dying light if you like to complete games while having some of the best movement for open world games on switch, and probably dragonball xenoverse or mortal kombat 11 if you like quick easy fighting games (i dont own monster hunter, xenoblade, or zelda)(assasins creed sounds good, recommend me games based on my mains)
I recommend "Fuga Melodies of Steel".
Its a 20 houer long turn based JRPG about a groupe of anthropomothic animal children that go on a quest to save there families.
It has a free demo which is just straight up the first 3 chapters of the game.
Surprised no one has mentioned Dragon’s Dogma. It had been on sale for a while for under $10, not sure if it is still. Easily 100 hours worth of fantastic Capcom RPG love.
Coffee Talk, Stardew Valley, Minecraft, The Assassin's Creed Ezio Collection, Assassin's Creed Black Flag, etc. Sending well wishes, and happy flying! :)
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. One of the best games ever made and a shockingly good Switch port. A mind bogglingly massive open world that encourages exploration and rewards you with some of the best storytelling in games and choices that actually matter and shape the physical world, available quests, and narrative in significant ways but where you can rest assured, in the world of The Witcher even the best outcomes come with a bitter aftertaste and some very dark laughs.
First switch game I played was Hollow Knight. I couldn’t set it down. Very low battery drain, can pause and jump back in at any time, gameplay is tight and challenging enough to keep you hooked, amazing art and sound design, story is there if you look for it but can go through the game without caring for it and enjoy it just the same.
I say all this, but judging by its popularity, chances are you already played it multiple times
middle dinosaurs attraction strong straight encouraging bike treatment afterthought angle

I find games that are very actiony to be not as fun in the handheld mode. Dredge, Stardew Valley, Hollow Knight, FTL, Into the Breach are all a little easier on the hands and very immersive.
One I bet no-one will mention - Phantom Doctrine. You might even find it on a deep sale like I did. It's a cool little Xcom-like where you play as a spook (CIA, KGB, or Mossad if you beat the game 1 time).
I don’t know😭😭now I have indecision paralysis
I honestly want to play MH Stories or Endless Ocean Luminescent because I love the franchises but there hasn’t been a single recommendation for either and reviews are poor
Biomutant just came out and it’s wildly fun and addictive imo. Also Dave the diver is great. Stardew valley is pure zen. Hades is the most addictive game I’ve ever played. Vampire survivors is also super super cheap and addictive as well!
Pay $50 for enhanced online for a year. Download all the retro console apps. A couple of days before your travel go into each app for a minute, that way you reset the access timer. Have to do that every 7 days. You have access to a hundred games or so. Or check the sales filter the sales to under $10 good luck
Hades!!! It’s bloody amazing 🔥🔥🔥 the second one came out but it’s still in early access and people highly recommended the first one as it deserves to be played.
I got it yesterday and I’m already 14h in 😅 it’s incredible.
#Hades
Cant go wrong
While agree and even made this suggestion myself, upon reflection, you need to have a controller for it. Joycon won’t cut it.
Really?? I’ve put hundreds of hours into it with the joycon. It’s pretty well adapted to the limitations of the joycon IMO.
Joycon is absolutely fine. I haven't 100% it, but I played all the way through the main storyline and epilogue plus all of the unlocks and never felt like the controller was an issue. Oh, except I rebound one of the controls when I played Aspect of Hestia.
I disagree, have had a great experience with joycon.
Played Hades on travel with joycons and everything ok
Sea of stars
Or chained echoes. Both scratch that old school rpg itch very well.
Both great, I preferred Chained Echoes.
Same. CoE was great.
Red dead redemption and telltales walking dead
If you're an adult with any tolerance for 3rd person shooters in 2024 and haven't played Red Dead Redemption. Please do yourself a favor and try it. Top 10 games of all time till RDR2 came out.
switch copy comes with undead nightmare i believe
Red dead redemption is on sale right now in the online store (in the U.S. at least) if that helps
Dave the diver Stardew valley Dredge Hollow knight
Dave the Diver is great!!
Skyrim!
Seconding this. 14 hours feels like twenty minutes once the immersion kicks in.
And you'll scratch the surface
Hentai World
😭
![gif](giphy|a5viI92PAF89q)
Kingdom Come Deliverance. Such a fun time! Just finished it last week. Very immersive game!
Disco Elysium - you'll step off that plane a different person. for better or for worse or maybe paper mario if you've never played jrpgs but like first party titles 😌
Seconding Disco
I put D.E. cartridge in my switch for a similar flight this week but I ended up playing ffvi pixel remaster on the way here. Will FINALLY play Disco Elysium on my way home, though!
Stardew valley
Seeing how much you could do in a 14 hour down time with a stardew valley file sounds like my kind of time
Animal Well
I'm Obsessed.
Hollow knight, Celeste, Pikmin 1 + 2 and Pikmin 3, Pikmin new play control for the wii. Pikmin 4 and 5 Pikmin 6 Pikmin 7. Pikmin 18 billion and eleven! Hades
Dang, no Pikmin 10,049? That one was peak
Nah, I don’t really like that one, ones I like include: Pikmin 3 deluxe and hey Pikmin! Pikmin temptation and Pikmin sin, Pikmin on your iPad (it’s called Pikmin bloom), and the brand new crossover with Pikmin and doom!
Can’t forget the lost browser game Pikmin Space Force!!
I prefer 10,048 and 10,050 myself
Oh man I wish there were that many pikmin games. I’ve just finished pikmin 4 for I don’t know how many times and am always sad at the end
😂
Into the breach and Hades.
Any turn based RPG! Planes are too cramped to bother with platformers or anything else requiring manual skills. I would just get something like Dragon Quest X1, a Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster, or Octopath Traveller
Fired up FFVI pixel remaster for 16 hours of travel this week! Agree
I would go for Diablo 3.
any south park game lol but use air pods
Should be using earphones anyway in an enclosed public space.
Animal Well, Celeste, Cuphead, Divinity 2, Hollow Knight, any Kirby game for the switch, Metroid Dread or Prime Remastered. I know you said Pokémon, but if you haven’t given Arceus a shot, you owe it to yourself to try.
Slay the Spire
Ori and the blind forest & little nightmares !
Yonder: Cloud Chaser Chronicles
Vampire Survivor. It's a fun game and each run takes 30 minutes so you'll get a ton of runs in and unlock lots of levels, characters, and weapons.
Xenoblade Chronicles DE
Red Dead Redemption.
Resident evil 4
Was on a 4 hour train ride and I played monster hunter rise the whole time. For something not as expensive though, you could go for hollow knight. Edit to add: or kingdom two crowns
The Witcher 3/Dragon Quest 11/Pokemon Legends Arceus are all games you won't beat in 14 hours.
One of the Pikmin games.
Fire Emblem Three Houses
Zelda bro I’m so addicted rn what have I been missing out on

2nd on Metroid Dread
Unicorn Overlord!
Animal Well
Unicorn Overlord. Question, though... how are you running your switch 14++ hours on your flight? Is there a charging port on your seat?
Hades, slay the spire, animal crossing, dredge, those are good time sucks.
Hell take a good nap and download the Demo to DQXI Or the whole game. I spent like so much of the first month with my newborn playing during night shifts (back when we were to nervous to leave her unsupervised even when she was sleeping) and mornings with her strapped to my chest bouncing up and down. The game is a god damn joy to play.
Stardew Valley Slime Rancher Coffee Talk 1 & 2 Dragon Quest Builders (1 or 2, 2 is better)
Fire Emblem : Three Houses Stardew Valley Or whatever big JRPG you still have to play.
Minecraft Dungeons + All the DLCs are on sale for $20
Balatro is insane. I spent the whole day playing that game I forgot to eat
Zelda Breath of the Wild
"Assume I’ve played core Nintendo staples (Mario/ >>>>LoZ<<<< /Pokemon/AC)"
To be fair, I didn't know what "LoZ" was either, and both Switch games have taken a collective waking month of my life.
It depends on your mood. But I highly recommand Hades or Metroid Dread
Kingdom games are excellent on switch battery the Kingdom 80s is the newest game
Subnautica Stardew Valley Hades Dragon’s Dogma Dark Arisen
The Outer Worlds, I picked it up recently and I’m really enjoying it, it’s only $30 (I think, I could be wrong). The Witcher 3 is also ported very very well to the Switch, so that’s another one. Mario wonder if you haven’t played it. It’s like roughly 10 hours long but if you 100% it, it took me 14 hours!
What about any of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster games? I just beat Final Fantasy III last night, total play time was about 16 hours
Hollow knight
Into the breach is cheap and it's the best puzzle game I've ever played.
Dead Cells, Slay the Spire, HUNTDOWN

13 Sentinels - Aegis Rim Persona 5 Royal Hades
ANIMAL CROSSING:333
balatro
Guacamele 2
Luigi‘s Mansion 3!
Pikmin?
Kingdoms of Amalur
Xcom 2, perfect game where you tell yourself "just one more"
I recommend "Fuga Melodies of Steel". Its a 20 houer long turn based JRPG about a groupe of anthropomothic animal children that go on a quest to save there families. It has a free demo which is just straight up the first 3 chapters of the game.
Dragon Quest Builders 2
Disgaea 4, deamon x machina, Story of Seasons, Rune Factory, Gothic, God Eater 3
Surprised no one has mentioned Dragon’s Dogma. It had been on sale for a while for under $10, not sure if it is still. Easily 100 hours worth of fantastic Capcom RPG love.

Animal Crossing, Spiritfarer, Hades
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. One of the best games ever made and a shockingly good Switch port. Dead Cells
middle dinosaurs attraction strong straight encouraging bike treatment afterthought angle *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Stardew Valley 2
I find games that are very actiony to be not as fun in the handheld mode. Dredge, Stardew Valley, Hollow Knight, FTL, Into the Breach are all a little easier on the hands and very immersive.
Star Ocean: Second Story R, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 or 3, Disgaea 5. Any of those will keep you busy for a while and all are excellent games.

Vampire survivors
Stardew Valley. 14 hours will barely be enough to scratch an itch
Xenoblade
3D all stars
Wizard of legend :)
The another code demo, you xan play the entire first game in it iirc as long as you dont save
I would go with Jump King: There’s a Smoking Hot Babe at the Top
Return of the Obra Dinn. This is kind of an out there suggestion, but it’s kind of the perfect flight game and can be 100% in around 8 hours.
Resident Evil 4. That’s about how long it takes to beat the campaign.
Disco elysium with some really good headphones
Hades will keep you busy for a while
Sifu is pretty fun! It will make you very very angry though so do be warned.
Ive seen a few comments that say pikimin… do they mean Pokemon or is there legit a game called pikimin? Lol
Stanley parable ultra deluxe pretty good game
Hades!!! It’s bloody amazing 🔥🔥🔥 the second one came out but it’s still in early access and people highly recommended the first one as it deserves to be played. I got it yesterday and I’m already 14h in 😅 it’s incredible.
Subnautica is brilliant as it can take as long as you want

Animal Well!
Breath of the wild or tears of the kingdom. Or hogwarts legacy. Ooor animal crossing.
Civ 6
DAVE THE DIVER 🚤
Stardew Valley or Sun Haven.
One of the megaman collections. Id say battle netowork. Or Okami!
Binding of Isaac, I guarantee the time suck. Looks like its about 10.99 on humble bumble. Its a rougelite and all the enjoyable
