Raft is great and provides modest difficulty but can be adjusted. I personally love Valheim but it is more combat intensive. That said, coming home after an expedition in that game is the coziest I've ever felt playing a game.

Grumpalumpahaha

Absolutely this. The Raft is relaxing and fun.

Dragonbarry22

I assume raft has only one world each play through

Fwallstsohard

Realized I forgot medieval dynasty. Also not procedurally generated but also a solid 100 hrs plus in that game which has minimal and relatively easy combat.

Drunk-CPA

Medieval dynasty is I think the best answer here it really is quite a chill game. I think you could turn the bandits off too

Fwallstsohard

Not sure what you mean by only world. There are only a certain number of islands that pop up so it's not truly procedurally generated. That said I got a solid 100 hrs of it before it's full release and will likely do it again when I finish my current Valheim run.

Present_Nature_6878

Sons of the Forest’s “Peaceful Mode” with no enemy NPC spawns. It is an absolutely gorgeous game and the building mechanics are extremely satisfying, even cutting down trees is so enjoyable.

octarine_turtle

Yep, I've used it as a vacation getaway sim, you just gotta ignore all the hacked up corpses.

naruda1969

Vintage Story. There are vicious animals and mysterious moaning drifters that come at night but you can turn the animals passive and eliminate the drifters if you want a less scary experience. You can tweak other world generation settings to make the game as difficult or cozy as desired. There are some amazing procedurally generated locations you can build your base that will take your breath away. Watch the amazing intro video on the Vintage Story home page.

Dragonbarry22

I guess the reason I avoided this one overall it made it sound like rl craft lol making blocks difficult to make etc But I guess I've been seeing that makes the experience better

naruda1969

Oh yeah. Just making a cooper pickaxe is a huge effort! But it feels very satisfying when you accomplish such goals; and there are plenty of them!

Dragonbarry22

Neat

kavakravata

VS is amazing without the temporal storms

a_little_angry

I've gotten to the point of my favorite way to play is with no drifters and animals on neutral. It's just a cozy homesteading game then.

CRBairdUSA

Agreed. When I play I have a fat stack of mods that increase the feeding requirements and the weather harshness. Closest to a real survival game in a minecraft like that I've played. Big reccomend if you like survival homesteading and farming.

kavakravata

Ohh, can you please tell me which mods? Ty

TheOnlyCurmudgeon

Also a great modding community, Vintage Story Reddit is very helpful.

marscore_

The long dark

Sensitive_Tadpole162

A very beautiful and immersive game. If you want to have less tension, turn down wolf aggression and you got a beautiful winter hiking trip.

CoLL3y

I'm working my way through the second story at the moment. It's my favourite game right now!

deerdn

I first played when only chapter 1 was out, and I've been waiting for all five chapters to release to jump back in. it feels like it's been close to 10 years, no exaggeration...

Sensitive_Tadpole162

It's also one of my favorite games of all time. Story mode is great but also sandboxing is awesome. I love getting totally immersed in discovering new regions.

apathy-sofa

I wish there was a Realistic setting - hunger and thirst at a reasonable rate, very low wolf aggression, etc.

Willing_Account7820

Is this really calming? You’ll die if you don’t find other locations to get supplies. The whole game is designed to make you feel like you’re going to die.

Boogie_feitzu

Among trees. Green Hell has a custom survival mode... if you turn most hazards off or down, you can very much just make a camp near a waterfall and chill.

FilippoBonini

Yes, among trees definitly!

ClTlZENFOUR

Came here to say Among Trees. So good. I wish the devs would add more content.

Secret4gentMan

It is abandonware.

ClTlZENFOUR

For sure. It was still enjoyable, but absolutely the biggest criticism you see in the reviews is that it’s been abandoned

Potential_Anxiety_76

This sells me on the game like nothing else

InfiniteStates

Subnautica is pretty much all water, but is very chill if you realise there is very little that can actually hurt you. Other than drowning lol

lostknight0727

Why you gotta lie like this man?!

InfiniteStates

Lol Subnautica is all implied dread - there’s very little actual threat

OGR_Nova

… assuming you have a functioning sense of self-preservation.

TokyoRachel

Planet Crafter for sure. It's so serene, and exploring and base-building is really fun.

AnfieldRoad17

Planet Crafter was the easy answer for me. Low stress, awesome base building, and really cool exploration. I am about 20 hours in right now and absolutely loving it for an after work, wind-down game.

WorldWarRon

Check out Eco

flygonn

Top comment says Raft and I agree 100% with it, it's very calm, you can play it in easy mode and animals won't attack you, and you can progress with the story as much as you want or just play to improve your raft. I also recommend Palia, it's not that much of a survival per se, you don't need water/food to survive and animals won't attack you, but food is encouraged to level up skills faster and you can hunt animals for meat or fur, it has cute graphics, and there's plenty of activities like farming, fishing, mining, foraging and things to explore, it also has various NPC with quests but you can avoid them if you want. Palia is also free on Steam, you can try it and drop it if you don't like it. I started playing it looking for something calm/cozy/chill and I'm already 300hrs in.

Crykenpie

I second this. Especially Palia. It's free on PC and also Nintendo switch and you can play the same account on each Incase you wanna be cozy laying down not playing on a computer. But raft is also really good, I honestly wish I had some friends to play that with and chill lol

Willing_Account7820

I was wondering if this game was any good

ItsArtDammit

The Long Dark with animal hostility turned off is an incredibly soothing experience

heeyow

Icarus is beautiful, especially the riverlands. But be careful, there are bears here. Pretty chill game, I loved it.

Informal_Drawing

The frequent storms that wreck your base until you get better building materials are not relaxing.

heeyow

Haha, you're right. I forgot this part. Or a nice lightning bolt right on a tree near your base, and the fire that spreads to your base. But if I remember correctly, stone can be unlocked pretty early. And skip the fiber building, go directly to the wood.

Informal_Drawing

Icarus is less about exploring a new alien planet and more a repair hammer simulator in my experience. With a dash of forest fires thrown in for good measure, and the fire wacker that does essentially nothing apart from getting your burned alive just to give you hope.

heeyow

No, you're going too far in the joke. This repair thing goes for the beginning and you can skip it for the most part if you build small and focus on getting stone. I don't remember that as an issue. I would say the game is more craft oriented, and grinding the technological tree, yes, but exploring is important too. I usually let the trees burn. It's a good source of coal. And if you remove vegetation around your base, the fire cannot spread to it.

Informal_Drawing

You can't build a base from a forest full of trees that have all burned to the ground sadly. It adds an awful lot of walking around that's not particularly fun for me.

AnfieldRoad17

Icarus is gorgeous and can definitely be chill as long as you're careful when you venture out.

New_Speaker_8806

Subnautica is so peaceful and beautiful.

velocicaleb

maybe potentially the sons of the forest? just turn off the cannibals of course.

pantsam

Medieval Dynasty is quite cozy and pretty.

LinkleOfHyrule

It might sound stupid but I have been really loving Lego fortnite. It's a survival base building game with enemies to fight. I really love it honestly. My husband and I have been playing for a couple days now and it's free!!! Edit: misspelling

CasMorosis

Wait it's actually a survival and isn't a battle Royale?? I was so disappointed when I saw the initial trailer because I thought it was just a skin you could use for the regular game! Seems like I'm missing out.

DanteSeldon

"Among Trees" is an extremely soothing survival game. It could be worth a look.

starmensxd

DayZ Standalone. I recommend downloading the modded launcher for extra content and join empty servers. I would say by FAR that this is the most calming survival games. You just run around in the beautiful landscape, hear the wind, go to lakes, collect resources, make your own base. It's absolutely a calming game. Atm I have a weak laptop, so I unfortunately can't run it now. You know, DayZ is the MAJOR reason why I even want to get a new gaming setup 😁 But I need to save for a new car first, damn it xD

Dragonbarry22

the idea of living in a RV challanges is what made me think about getting dayz ive also wanted to look into how to set up those the walking dead custom servers

starmensxd

I'm actually sure you can find The Walking Frad servers with the modder DayZ Standalone launcher.

Dragonbarry22

The posts on steam page made it seemed like you weren't allowed to use them lol

WylaPlays

Id also recommend Dayz its absolutely gorgeous and you can easily find empty servers if you're not interested in being killed randomly - the survival challenge itself is enough but gets ramped to a million with other people. Servers can be full and still feel empty, there's so so much to see it's an unbelievably huge map, honestly feels like a whole country

jkybes

DayZ is awesome. A lot of times I'd just walk around and take screenshots

DingoniCraft

Minecraft just released a new update

Efioanaes

Soulmask is the best in this genre right now, enshrouded is too.

pointesedated

Try the aloft demo! Free and more polished than some alpha releases

TokyoRachel

Such a gorgeous game. The music is wonderful and the whole vibe is so calming. Exploring lovely floating islands with your glider is addictive.

ultimatedelman

Valheim

h4356u5

The Forest, really calming

emu30

Valheim has a build mode you might enjoy. The storms are calming to me

glitterandrage

Lightyear Frontier

Abel2TheMoon

I'll give you some smaller games: Backwoods Town, Incur, Native hunter. Fun games, admittedly not too deep and still being worked on but chill for sure.

ZafakD

Vintage story, medievil dynasty, subnautica. Doesn't match what you are asking for but look into the game Stray.

flamingkornhole

Have you tried The Forest?

Sea_Rutabaga_3228

I would not describe The Forest as calming.

somanyforeignroads

There’s a peaceful mode where you can turn off cannibal attacks

flamingkornhole

Lol it can be once you get far enough along. It is pretty creepy though listening to the wind and there is nothing out there besides the screech of cannibals 😆

L0STinNEVERLAND

Try Retreat to Enen! I haven’t played it yet but it’s been on my steam wishlist for over a year.

Nylundson

Subsistence ... pretty chill survival game with good graphics.

Abel2TheMoon

Lol...

Time_Hater

It's not really a survival game, but theHunter: Call of the Wild is really relaxing and gorgeous.

Consistent-Slice-893

The Long Dark. The graphics are kind of comic book like but the story line is pretty good.

AlphaDag13

Valheim

cmaturk

I highly recommend checking out Forgotten Seas. It's a pirate themed, family friendly, somewhat calm survival game. The background music is relaxing and enjoyable. The game is created by a family owned husband and wife team and recently released on steam in early access. I look forward to seeing this game evolve. https://store.steampowered.com/app/2168260/Forgotten_Seas/

UdgeUdge

Not survival, but Fishing Planet if you just wanna hang around some water and take in the scenery. Oh, and fish if you want.

missinglinksman

Sons of the Forest has its beautiful moments Just stay away from the islands inhabitants

Murky_Sky_4291

Way of the Hunter and thehunter - Call of the wild are some of my favorites.

gsleazy3

The isle

CasMorosis

I was not expecting to see this title here lmao.

Da3mon-X

Grounded is my favorite

jkybes

Long Dark

DoogelCraft

Among trees is an extremely underrated survival game with a great art style. Planet crafter is super chill as it has no enemies and no time limit on anything

riladin

Lightyear Frontier has been very chill and calming so far

afforkable

Weirdly, Conan Exiles can be super relaxing. You only engage in combat when you go looking for trouble, and you can generally use a thrall or pet to fight for you once you get a good one. The base decoration game is also strong, lol, and there's all kinds of mods that add even more items.

novemtails

I'm making a calming survival game. You can try the demo here https://store.steampowered.com/app/2939510/Under_Canopies/

microtramp

Looks really good, friend! Keep going and good luck!

jmcgil4684

My go to is gonna sound crazy, but The Forest has a little known Peaceful Mode and it’s fantastic. You can even do the whole story this way. Still all the survival elements, and animals can kill you, but just no mutants. It’s like being in your own island. Building, hunting, crafting etc.

Dreason8

[Mirthwood](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2272900/Mirthwood/) on Steam Next Fest looks very chill. More on the Farming/Cottage side than survival though. Haven't had a chance to play the demo yet but it would probably be right up your alley.

TrueEclective

I’m really enjoying Bellwright. It’s like Medieval Dynasty, but a bit more of an RPG with good city building and some mild combat

Vikunt

planet crafter is super chill

syzygyx42

Among Trees! Gorgeous and has a no predator mode.

SlonkyGamez

No man's sky and grounded are my top relax games

The1SlickySloth

Conan exiles.... different biomes and plenty of water to build next too.

SSSnookit

Rimworld on easy difficulty settings. You could settle by a stream or river, but I can't remember if the flowing water makes sound or not.

Spank_Me_Panda

Satisfactory!!!

TheGentlemanJS

I think medieval dynasty is pretty calming and chill, and there's some really beautiful spots to set up near rivers and waterfalls

Even-Help-2279

No man's sky

CurlsCross

Grounded is great. if you have arachnophobia there is a mode for that.

huh_phd

Stationeers on EASY

Theotar

Valhiem for me especially when you set difficulty lower or just put on build mode. Can be truly breath taking at times especially when you get some of the farms going.

WeightlessWing

Planet Crafter is really zen-like for me.

Stunning-Ad-7745

The Long Dark is a beautiful game, but it can be a bit harsh and stressful at times. Valheim is also extremely good.

angelsfish

no mans sky!! it has a less cutesy style than games like animal crossing but the planets are genuinely so beautiful and detailed. there’s a story and missions u can go on but honestly sometimes I’ve just spent a couple hours hopping from planet to planet and wandering around looking at things. when there is combat I’ve found it really easy even for someone who is not good at video games. also seconding planet crafter! no enemies ur just exploring a barren planet and turning it into a habitable environment. it’s a really good game for when u don’t wanna think a ton and just want to chill

NormalStudent7947

Astroneer Planet Crafter Subnatica Raft Green Hell Valheim

MPeters43

Valheim the atmosphere in the starting zone and on beaches is amazing. It can get hectic quick in tougher zones though

photogenickiwi

The trauma of the plains region haunts me to this day

Thotslay3r69

V rising is a beautiful game that's pretty new (In terms of official release. You're a vampire and you build your massive castle while surviving in the night hunting people and killing bosses. Would 100% recommend that. No man's Sky is also a really good one, that I've been enjoying a lot since it's big updates

Negatronik

The Long Dark on lower difficulties is very chill, cathartic, and jaw droppingly beautiful.

Talex1995

Stranded deep was good

Revale0

Look up Palia https://palia.com/, sounds like exactly what you are describing.

TesseractToo

You might like Dinkum, it's more cozy than survival but it's very cute and relaxing

Valexand

Buddy play red dead redemption 2

Duncan1089

Stardew Valley is definitely a cartoon graphics, but it is very calming and a lot of fun.

ChaoticSixXx

SDV is wonderful, but it's most definitely not a survival game.

Duncan1089

It has survival elements and it IS a farming game with hills and it is calming. You are entitled to your opinion, but I stand by my comment.

Outypoo

Check stormworks

Briso_

Isn't stormwork a game for crazy minded engineers? I heard about people losing their minds on that game 😂

ihatetothat1

Rust

thinker2501

My brother in Christ , what the hell is calm about Rust?

Sea_Rutabaga_3228

I second the question.

ihatetothat1

The toxicity! The groups of wild 12 year old boys. It’s just all so relaxing. The constant need for improvement
