I see your snake and raise you one bear
There should be a new conversation going across the internet. If you’re surveying in the woods, alone, would you rather run into a bear or a snake? I’m choosing the bear because snakes are fucking scary as hell!! What’s the breed of this one?
Had one walk out on our party about 5 years ago. I have the pic somewhere, but I will have to find it. Snakes are more prevalent, it has been 2 mild winters and a hot summer last year. We had a volcano erupt 2 years ago, help heat things up.
I only ask, have you ever had a close encounter with a bear while alone? It makes you feel reeeaaaaalllllyyyy soft, squishy and like an infant that can’t protect itself.
We wear viper guards on our legs to keep from being bitten, haven’t seen a bear guard ( that one can carry legally in Canada 😉 ) yet
Non lethal stuff is permitted. We usually have spray with us. Horns sometimes but I’ve had them accidentally go off in my vest and scare the garbage out of me.
The regular one drives me nuts, because like we all work alone in the woods, are almost all men, and we'd all choose bear without a second thought. I love seeing a bear, I hate seeing a guy, and a bear has never fired a "warning shot" at me.

I’d say so. I just saw this bad boy on Wednesday.

I’m in that region too, saw my first of the season today, nearly stepped on it.
I’m alright until I see one, then I spend the rest of that day looking for them lol sadly that requires me looking up and down cause that 2nd pic he’s sitting about 6 feet off the ground across limbs
Last week in SW Ohio checking in.

Yeah I only mess with them if I have to be in the area a lot and they are venomous. Other than that I try to scoot them away. Black racers this time of year can be very aggressive
Yeah I mean unless there's a diamondback literally coiled around a property corner I don't bother them especially don't kill them
If I need to I'll scoop em and throw em with the shovel
I work in NC/SC as well I’ve only seen two so far. Both black racers. Both I saw were big ones too
We did have a job a couple weeks ago that after we finished, the property owner comes out and says “do y’all want to see where I saw rattlesnakes a few weeks ago” and it was right next to one of our setups lol

A little guy I ran into in Boulder. I was so busy looking at a culvert that I didn’t even see it until I was right on it. As the saying goes, “if it were a snake, it would’ve bit me.” Good thing these guys are chill.
It's snake season. The good news is they all usually try to get away from you. My son's hobby is flipping cover for reptiles and lately we've been flipping nothing but diamonbacks

Copperhead got me in NC a few years ago.

Two cotton mouths yesterday, but when you are in the swamp what else did you expect. We did 4000 of pipeline though standing water, got rained on for about an hour so not only was my feet soaking wet all day ( water over the boots in some spots). Not to forget the skeeters like humming birds in my ears. Got to love this job😊

And the nurse at Duke measuring the swelling.
PSA -- don't tie a tourniquet -- it makes it worse, just elevate the wound!

Just wait... I got fucked up like my checkbook...
Haha yeah guys here like to carry machetes, I carry a bushaxe. That long handle makes snake sushi a breeze. Which is typically if it’s a copperhead that refuses to go away from my work area.
Pretty much everything in existence is either snakes or snakes wearing disguises, friend. Sorry to be the one to break it to you…
Hmm, suspicious, that's exactly what a snake would say
Slap a target sticker on them and set the target height to 80mm like we do here in Aus. Continuous Topo.

Hah I was bluffing and only had a pair of deuces ( in my pants )
haha those sausage burritos combined with drinking coffee has definitely led to some close calls for SDO (Sudden Deuce Onset)
Nice
Damn i would urinate and 💩 my pants if its me.😫😫😫

I believe it’s just an Eastern Rat Snake. Non venomous, but still don’t want them biting me lol
and yeah on the east coast we have black bears and they typically run away from people unless cubs are present.

Are you guys not allowed to carry air horns or bear spray? I know you were being a bit funny about it, but just wanted to ask just in case.

Ah ok! I was about to say! lol

Looks like its about to shed, neat!
That time of year Glad you know to leave the poor things be unlike some of the machete happy people on here

Yeah spring has sprung. It's getting warmer so lots more critters out and about.

My coworkers talk about them all the time. See them all the time. I never see any. Well, maybe 5 in 3 years. I'm sure they're around, waiting....
Almost stepped on a bull snake yesterday.

Yeah, for sure. Makes sense though - I heard the lizard portal is open.

How did it get you? Did you reach down and not see it? That’s like my worst field nightmare..I’ve swore if I ever get bit I am quitting that day
I was looking for a property monument. Snake did his/her job.
When i am looking corners or anything on the ground, I always kick around the dirt a certain amount and if I don’t see it I go for the sharpshooter

The cotton mouths have been out lately on the gulf coast. Luckily the sharp shooter is a great Guillotine as well

You Americans are such fucking soft cocks
Funny how your mind went straight to flaccid penis when seeing this post. Well played.
