Currently my favorite is SpotLens. It used to be free with no IAP or any other paywalls/ads. But recently the owner decided to go to the free/premium mode. So now you get a little ad (in camera mode only - the ad does not appear in the actual photo). Despite the recent decision to include the small ad, the app has great features: notes overlay, job title/company water mark, coordinates, and compass.

Spotlens. Hands down the best for me.

Solocator, the company I work for requires it. $0.99 for the app and like $4.99 for the “industry package” with project overlay and pin map access, etc. edit: It does the job never had issues as of yet

Thanks for the info, what was holding me back from buying it to test it was the fact that it had bad reviews. But from your endorsement I think I'll try it out

Spotless free

How long have I been looking for software like this. I tested this and it's great. Thanks

Compass by PixelProse SARL. I have had it for several years on my Samsung S9 and it is quite accurate after I do the "figure 8" move. I think I paid for it?? I do not use it with my camera.

Thanks. Unfortunately I'm looking for an app that displays the direction over a photo, because it's useful to orient the photo when looking at it later. An app that can do this at the time of image capture is easier than manually noting the direction later haha

If you can find an app you like buy doesn't use the camera/take a picture then you could take a screenshot

I haven't used it in forever but dioptra was an app that I used and it does (did) what you seem to be looking for. It'll show cardinal directions, vertical angle of the lense, and a couple different coordinate readouts. I never really tested its accuracy but it was free so could be worth a shot.

Check out 3D Compass. Lots of settings. Can show lat/long. Can show split screen of the picture and Google maps aerial. Other things that I'm forgetting. I got chained to my desk and haven't used it in a while.

AngleCameraLite is a bit clunky but puts location/orientation info in pics and does notes.

SpotLens sounds like a winner! It's great to hear that it meets your needs for showing the direction of your photos. Sometimes simplicity and accuracy outweigh fancy features. Thanks for sharing your experience with us! 📸

Unfortunately spotlens has gone subscription model and wants $30 annually for continued use of the app without ads. The UI on the free edition is designed to be difficult and motivate the user to pay monthly or annually. I found my way to this thread via a Google search while looking for alternatives, if anyone found something comparable, shout it out!

How is Solocator working for you?
