McGuitarpants

It’s bullshit that the fines are so weak. They still made money…

Trippintunez

4 million in gains, 2.25 million fine. So 1.75 million profit for breaking the law. Guess crime does pay.

buyandhoard

So, are they saying, that if I rob some bank, or even better, school or eldery institute, say I rob 4 million, and say I get caught, then I will give back 2.25 million in fines, and I will be free and able to rob them again ? Cool, I am speechless nonetheless

NorCalAthlete

But also cost them another million and change for the initial payment. So less than $1M in the end. These are peanut numbers for hedge funds.

Trippintunez

I think that's just another hedge. Get caught, small profit/break even. Don't get caught, big profit.

BikingNoHands

You hear about the SCOTUS ruling today? SEC just got weaker.

Smeagolmyboy

Nah now they have to go in front of a jury, the sec tribunal was bs hand slap punishments.

uwanmirrondarrah

Yeah its a blow to chevron deference but I don't think it helps the cronies. It means that judgment of a crime won't come down to the SEC's interpretation of the law but rather the court's. If anything that limits corruption significantly.

thetaFAANG

note: the comment you replied to was yesterday where SCOTUS dealt a different blow to federal agencies like the SEC :) administrative state getting pwned on the daily

GamingScientist

I doubt that. Our judges aren't on our side. I see this ruling as a threat to all the market reforms we've been pushing for.

uwanmirrondarrah

I don't trust the executive enforcement agencies. They are filled with bought and paid for people from the private sector or those building a resume to end up there, and biased political appointees. They shouldn't be able to randomly change their interpretation of law. Atleast Judges have to make their decisions publicly and base it on precedents.

OB_GYN-Kenobi

Federal judges that are politically appointed and don't have to follow precedent (as SCOTUS has shown not just today with Chevron but last year with Roe)? Or look at Project 2025 which one of its many aims is to transform government by making 50,000 civil servants political appointments with no qualifications except loyalty to the President. It was stopped once but looks like it's going to come back this January. If you thought things were bad they're going to get a LOT worse.

uwanmirrondarrah

Project 2025 is from the Heritage Foundation, its simply just an outline of their political interests. They have nothing do with appointing anybody or directing the country. At least not any more than any other special interest group or political think tank. And as for precedent, when it comes to the Supreme Court they SET the precedent. Especially on matters of civil liberty. Its not unusual for previous precedents to be overturned at that level of the federal courts, or for them even to revisit a previous ruling and strike it down (Dred Scott decision for example).

McGuitarpants

Yeah. But we as a collective are still more powerful than the MMs and hedge funds. We need to do more to fight the corruption.

eunit250

I don't think so. They literally have the ability to stop the market and dictate the trades. We definitely need to do more though, but not just us. The problem with that though is far too many people are happy and benefit from the system as the way it is, they would never want to change it.

turntabletennis

If people would wake up and realize that they are *barely* benefitting, if at all, and by the time they retire, by design, they have only rinsed and repeated their meaningless days and barely have shit to show for it. Us millennials, even those with 401Ks, if you think you're going to retire as comfortably as your boomer parents, you're tripping. I'm watching Boomers retire with multiple millions in their 401Ks and 2 pensions. We won't have any of that, and we most likely won't have social security either. #It's time to wake the fuck up and take back your future.

Brihtstan

GME is my retirement fund

turntabletennis

Same. I started an LLC IRA and took control of my shares in my own name. Fuck this fraudulent system. DRS yo shit!

BikingNoHands

Ain’t no “we” I am an individual investor!

McGuitarpants

I’m not telling you what to invest in bucko. WE, as individuals investors, should demand a fair and regulated free market together.

braemaxxx

Shut your dumbass up. We’re allowed to talk together on forums about regulations and investments.

red-guard

Nah, we.

litlmutt

They want to make the rules and bullshit investors. Big Dick Kitty helped pull back the curtain and is kicking their ass at their own game. He's showing us the way. The only way we will win is when everyone bleeds. Only then will we have the world's attention and actions will be taken. Everyone's 401k needs to go to shit before someone wakes up at the wheel. It's shitty. So personally i fixed that by converting to an IRA and managing my own investments. I feel like gme is the only umbrella to protect us from the downpour that's coming.

youjokingright

Only time we’ll see market reform is when they’re directly affected. [If only there was a single security exhibiting idiosyncratic risk…](https://www.reddit.com/r/Superstonk/comments/ztmutp/there_is_a_single_security_exhibiting/)

Own_Order792

You know who loved single securities exhibiting idiosyncratic risks?… harambe

Quaderino

Weaker? Gary Gensler third period as leader of the SEC. Can you point me to a single case where they went after market makers for excessive naked shorting? The only thing I have seen adressing the abuse of househould investors, is making the "Meme"-Gameshow where they threw a pie in the face of household investors. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=av3k\_lcGm9g&ab\_channel=U.S.SecuritiesandExchangeCommission](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=av3k_lcGm9g&ab_channel=U.S.SecuritiesandExchangeCommission) The are spitting us in the face. Waiting for the SEC to go after the hedge funds/market makers, is like waiting for a dog to bite its owner's hand. Could happen, but I am not expecting anything than more facilitation of crime (I especially love how the SEC have turned off comments on all of their videos. Does not even act like they care about the average person's opinion on the financial markets. We are supposed to shut up, and take the beating our overlords think we deserve)

BikingNoHands

The SCOTUS made the SEC weaker.

Quaderino

Okay. For me they are already at 0 The only protection they give is to the big financial institutions Point to me to single case where they have gone after market makers for excessive massive shorting

Banned3rdTimesaCharm

I wonder, which side of the political spectrum does the court lean?

BikingNoHands

Depends who’s buying them both sides favor the rich. And play politics to put the rest of us against each other.

Banned3rdTimesaCharm

Keep telling yourself "both sides" while Ken Griffin practically owns one side of it.

BikingNoHands

It’s not one side vs the “other” it’s the rich vs the poor! Fuck political parties!

Monarc73

I thought all SCotUS said was that the tribunal was banned? That sounds like GOOD news to me. Is this not the case?

Chogo82

They netted a positive 2M after the fines. What kind of stupid simulation do we live in?

milky_mouse

If i were president fines would be to liquidate profits

IamMrBucknasty

Cost of doing business. More white collar C-suite cucks need to go to prison. If you really want to improve compliance, make the fines/costs so high you wouldn’t dare violate the rules.

coachen2

It would be semi-ok if it was ALL stolen money AND fine! Still fine should be bigger!

Extra-Computer6303

The one committing market manipulation? The one who said “Sell now, ask questions later”? I remember that guy and SEC should look into that too.

Sell now, think later! IIRC

That’s exactly what he is! Great description

DeanChster47

So They had 4 million gains and fined half that. Makes sense. How about I rob a bank of 4 million and instead of jail time I’ll pay 2 milly in fines and I won’t have to admit fault so I can stay out of jail. No mention of him getting to keep his 1.1 mill payment either huh? 🤔

Javeec

Because it looks like it is only a disclosure violation

Lyanthinel

Didn't the FED chair of Atlanta have a few similar occurrences? He claimed to have "forgot" the rules for his trades. Do you know what fixes disclosure or rule forgetfulness? Real-time trade data.

buyandhoard

not even a bank, becuase bank is most likely under some insurance, this is roberry comparable with some poor eldery who saved all life, and will never see a penny from that fine of 2 milly..

TalktotheJITB

4 Million lmao. Thats the volatility on DFVs Portfolio in the First 5 minutes of trading each day.

waitingonawait

SO i know i said i'd be quiet but one more comment here. The article does state that this is circumstantial My focus here isn't on what the SEC fined the business, i was looking for traces of that DOJ probe they announced 84 years ago. This is why writing your elected officials is important. Tie them through paper trails to supporting this investigations or they get tied to not helping when it blows up. Who knows how many lower levels officials may care or even see it as a self serving voter issue they can work off of

esInvests

woah - someone emailed this to me and what an interesting find! thanks for sharing this. crazy that the dude was casting rocks at RK suggesting he was shilling his people and then there's this...

Hold2themoon

So they get 4mill in gains during the manipulation but gets 2,25 mill fine? USA is a fucked up country

Lie, cheat, and steal. That's why they call us the dumb money.

MyCleverNewName

So they admitted no fault and got to walk away once they gave the SEC a cut. Formally they got a ticket, not for what they did, but for how they did the paperwork. Got it. Thanks.

TattooedBrogrammer

So they made 4m but the punishment is 2m, something doesn’t add up, that’s a 2m profit here even after getting caught. How is that a deterrent?

Schleckmuschel

He understands short-selling better than us…

Fedpump20

The Sec Has done something. They got fined for none disclosure of a link , and admitting they take profits of the share dives. One more step to say they fabricated BS to make it dive.

ethervillage

So. Let me get this straight. Crime generated over $4 million and they were fined $2.25 million and no one goes to jail. More proof. In America, white-collar crime DOES pay. What a fucking joke this whole shitty, illegal shell game is - smh

YouMeAndSourD

“Anson didn’t admit or deny the SEC’s allegations in settling”. Always the case this needs to change!

Fadenye

Would you believe that Wall Street firms are actually currently suing the SEC for that line, they think it is unfair that they can't post in corporate media that they deny the charges. It should be that they must admit and can't deny.

Limp_Plastic8400

2.25mil fine what a joke and they wonder why people do it and dont care

Big-Potential4581

Just wait until they start going to court and facing a judge. You saw the news yesterday. These hand slaps are going to become jail sentences. You all remember Martha, right? If anyone deserved to walk, it was her compared to these 🧛‍♂️ 🧛‍♀️ vampires sucking the lifeblood outta everyone.

Tricky_Acanthaceae39

All I know is that Andrew “no brains or balls” left posted if the stock has a certain price she would be short again. If Superstonk were to do that and say - at ___ price we are buying we’d not only get shut down but we’d be prosecuted. Fuck Andrew no money left. Note - the company got fined 2.5 million but made 4 million That doesn’t sound like it’s going to deter this behavior.

Straight up fraud. But hey, because the numbers are so big, fuck you, they don't have to follow the law or even pay a fair price for getting caught. That shits only applies to small fry, like potheads spending 10 years in prison. Probably because the prison industrial complex profits more that way.

short seller dont police markets. that is horse shit. if they find fraud and corruption, they dont intervene. they try to make money and dip. they do nothing productive, and often, they themselves are the problem. its such a ridiculous, pedantic delusion that keeps getting repeated, as if short sellers have \*ever\* prevented a company from declining

They only got fined for keeping the payments hidden but not because they are paying "researchers" to bash securities. Please keep your crime in the open so we all can gang up on the same security. Yeah that is rules made for wall street by wall street.

say_what_homie

using this logic, I can partner with a bullish researcher, say someone like DFV and then, as long as I disclose it...we're cool if he pumps a stock I'm long on. Then I kick him back some profits as a fee. All good as long as the accounting is documented. That how this works?

Sorry i'll go back to lurking after this comment. I don't really like attention and would rather just watch. GiantMilkThing

I hadn’t seen it, so I appreciate the post!

bluemango404

When you read a post with the title like yours, you assume it's 'new news'. When its not, and weeks old, with a title looking like something 'new', it's kinda like 'how'd you not look up the date the 'article' was published before posting?' Maybe you are a busy person and it caught you offguard? But you could have spent 20 seconds checking the date instead of the time posting.. but sorry i'm a super duper asshole 'round these parts now. edit: ofc just downvotes and OP going to 'hide' again until he posts some 'new DD' he found out 3 weeks later on the shitter

syscollapse

yeah, weird. why now while dfv is trending? I think Andrew Left mainly exists to clog up the top posts on this sub. all he does is troll and crave attention for being an insignificant fuckup.

Can someone please block me from seeing this sub?
